Mr Law and Order Guy.
For everyone else.
I used to not really care about Jeff Sessions. Now, I care too much about his damaging ways and just want to see him gone.
I don’t know anything about this Rep from Wisconsin, but I like his style:
“I just want to ask you,” Pocan said to DeVos, “would you send your kids to a school where they have 93 percent of the students aren’t English proficient and zero percent are math proficient?”
DeVos thanked the congressman for his question and mused for a moment on how nice it was that he’s from Wisconsin.
“I only have five minutes,” Pocan prompted DeVos.
She deflected, saying the charter schools experiment was begun by Democratic Milwaukee city councilwoman Polly Williams. Pocan replied that yes it was and the councilwoman is no longer living, but before she passed away, she declared the voucher program a failure that “failed to live up to its promises.”
This set off a tense back-and-forth before he gave up, saying, “I can see you’re not going to answer my question.”
Gah—Betsy DeVos is the worst of the worst.

While I’d love to see Trump impeached and barred from future service, Sessions is also on that list. Sadly, I don’t think we’re in sane enough times that “impeached and removed from office” would be enough to prevent him from getting a gig in the Senate again.

Trump’s historic arms deal is likely a jobs creator - in Saudi Arabia
WASHINGTON
In keeping with his campaign promise to put “America first,” President Donald Trump framed a massive $110 billion arms deal signed with Saudi Arabia over the weekend as a historic agreement that would result in “jobs, jobs, jobs.”
“That was a tremendous day,” he said. “Hundreds of billions of dollars of investments into the United States and jobs, jobs, jobs.”
Industry analysts agree - if you’re talking about Saudi jobs.
The new agreements foresee a massive influx of defense technology and job training into the country, and that, analysts say, will result in hundreds of new, high-skilled positions - in Saudi Arabia. The analysts even foresee the day when the Saudi arms manufacturing could compete with U.S. defense industries.

I think that’s one of my biggest issues with the Republican party. (Well, maybe. There’s so many issues it’s hard to say for sure. But.) Integrity is something that has meaning to me. Building your reactions from your principles and not just reacting to every little stupid thing. Which means if you care about it when the other side would do it, you should ALSO care about it when your side does it.
I’d like to think I try to live up to that standard, even if I don’t always succeed. I never see Republicans even trying.

It’s like when they complained about executive power and EO’s under Obama but now they’re just fine with them under Trump. Not to mention that Obama was in fact pretty conservative in his executive orders even with the GOP Congress he had for much of his time in office.

It is the lack of integrity. It’s unquestionably supporting the NSA in the Bush years and then complaining when Obama uses the same program but actually makes it more judicious.

Well we haven’t had a President leave the presidency and then return to office since Andrew Johnson who curiously enough was impeached and nearly removed from office.
True, but imagine this scenario:
Either the Dems take the House in 2018 or the Russia story hits critical mass for Republicans and the House goes through with impeachment. The Senate, in a moment of clarity, removes Trump from office. But they don’t bar him from future service.
Trump, being Trump, rallies his now pissed off true believers, barnstorming and giving speeches about how he was draining the swamp and the swamp fought back. So he’s running again, as a Republican, because fuck those guys. And he sweeps his base into a frenzy, riding it to another nomination (and taking out that traitor Pence along the way with new VP nominee Newt Gingrich), not only that, he rides this wave of resentment to primary several Republicans that voted against him in either the House or Senate impeachment proceedings.
Suddenly we have a general election of Trump vs ??? Hopefully, whomever the Democrats nominate can fight the crazy and inspire at the same time.

Krauthammer just claimed on Fox News that Medicaid, which was originally supposed to be “for the poor”, now covers people at up to 400% of poverty level with the Medicaid expansion . WTF? No it does not.
In states that have expanded Medicaid coverage: You can qualify based on your income alone. If your household income is below 133% of the federal poverty level, you qualify. (Because of the way this is calculated, it turns out to be 138% of the federal poverty level. A few states use a different income limit.)
Maybe he mixed up Medicaid eligibility with ACA subsidies, but nobody corrected him. (as if anyone on the Fox news “all-star panel” would ever correct the “brilliiant” dr K.)

Mr. Pocan is outstanding. He’s on Thom Hartmann’s radio show every Thursday. That’s exactly how Bernie got a lot of followers on his weekly Brunch with Bernie segments. He’s very down-to-earth and very progressive.
I was just reading up on him—I love it that he joined ALEC to punk them. Just sad that Bernie’s WI followers didn’t come out for Hillary—or Russ Feingold (that one will never make sense to me.)

Well, people on social media and the press should really start asking if he left because he has to surrender at the Sheriff’s office…
I mean, it’s only asking questions, that need to be answered..

If Quint had done this, his campaign and his career in politics would be over.

Lazy bum is resting. He just completed a European tour (28 gigs in 12 countries [counting Wales and Scotland] over 41 days) and on June 13 starts an eastern US/Canada one, a mere 29 dates in 44 days.
That probably leaves him enough time off to put together another art show, or book, or album …

Theresa May to tackle Donald Trump over Manchester bombing evidence
May will confront Donald Trump over the stream of leaks of crucial intelligence about the Manchester bomb attack when she meets the US president at a Nato summit in Brussels on Thursday.
British officials were infuriated on Wednesday when the New York Times published forensic photographs of sophisticated bomb parts that UK authorities fear could complicate the expanding investigation into the lethal blast in which six further arrests have been made in the UK and two more in Libya.
It was the latest of a series of leaks to US journalists that appeared to come from inside the US intelligence community, passing on data that had been shared between the two countries as part of a long-standing security cooperation.

Damn Republicans aren’t holding back their dislike of the media these days. I guess Trump gave them the A-Okay!
You can tell they have been wanting to do this for some time. For some it’s been a tough period in their lives where they had to share the planet with people that didn’t give them money and had liberal tendencies.
Now with Trump, let it be known how much you dislike someone, back it up with physical threats and violence.

Of course not. The guy is a lunatic. I expect that they had him drive to the station to be booked, rather than cuff a candidate. Why else would he just leave? They should have cuffed him and put him in the back of a police car.
re: #146 JordanRules
I used cold-cocked to mean a surprise attack; apparently many people think it means knocked unconscious. This could be regional, or even international differences in usage. I am fluent in English and American, and have dabbled in Australian; I understand them all but sometimes the wrong one comes out when I speak.
Having Montanan friends (whom I have visited in their native habitat) I would think that not giving someone a chance to put their dukes up would compound the offense.

Yeah I wasn’t disagreeing with what you said. Was just trying to make the point clear.
Gianforte is a piece of…….work:
Gianforte has outlined his position on retirement by using the Biblical example of Noah. He said, “There’s nothing in the Bible that talks about retirement. And yet it’s been an accepted concept in our culture today. Nowhere does it say, ‘Well, he was a good and faithful servant, so he went to the beach… The example I think of is Noah. How old was Noah when he built the ark? 600. He wasn’t like, cashing Social Security checks, he wasn’t hanging out, he was working. So, I think we have an obligation to work. The role we have in work may change over time, but the concept of retirement is not biblical.”
Gianforte is a believer in Young Earth creationism, the pseudoscientific belief that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. He donated $1.5 million to the Dinosaur and Fossil Museum in Glendive, Montana, a creationist museum which teaches visitors that evolution is false, the Earth is about 6,000-6,400 years old, that dinosaurs were on the Ark and that they likely died out 4,300 years ago during the flood described in the Book of Genesis.

The answer is very simple, and the media will never, ever go there:
This level of obfuscation can have only one reason — Betsy DeVos is a stone cold racist and confederate who would instantly repeal Brown if she had the power to do so.
More to the point, there are 4 RWNJs on SCOTUS that would happily repeal Brown, and if Trump gets any other person from that Heritage Foundation list onto the Court, they will have 5.

It’s been a constant drumbeat of bad news. Every time they’ve thought they’d “won,” it turns to shit and they’re left in an even worse position than before.
There are some encouraging signs, but these GOP assholes still have way too much real power for “worse position” to be in any way applicable. Their first chance to get into a markedly worse position is if they lose the House in 2018.
Gianforte lost his shit over a question about the CBO score, if you want to know how confident Republicans feel about defending their bill.

Indeed.
Confirmation bias also seems to have plagued some in the FBI who used a Russian document alleging communications between Lynch’s DOJ and the DNC to push the email story publicly even though they were told it was likely bogus. I wonder if any agents who so hated Hillary that they would believe this have changed at all.

OT: And on the lighter side of the news, it is the 40th anniversary of the movie Star Wars. And here is my page. littlegreenfootballs.com
A couple threads ago everyone was posting how old they’ll be. Thanks for making me feel ancient, I’ll be fifty-seven at the end of the month.
When Star Wars came out, it hit the small-town theatre where I grew up on the day of it’s release. My mother dragged my sister and my older cousins to the movie three times the first week.
The plot thickens!
Now it comes out that Gianforte is heavily invested in Russian securities!
A Republican congressional candidate has financial ties to a number of Russian companies that have been sanctioned by the US, the Guardian has learned.
Greg Gianforte, who is the GOP standard bearer in the upcoming special election in Montana, owns just under $250,000 in shares in two index funds that are invested in the Russian economy to match its overall performance
According to a financial disclosure filed with the clerk of the House of Representatives, the Montana tech mogul owns almost $150,000 worth of shares in VanEck Vectors Russia ETF and $92,400 in the IShares MSCF Russia ETF fund. Both are indexed to the Russian equities market and have significant holdings in companies such as Gazprom and Rosneft that came under US sanctions in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of the Crimea.

Not the first time a Republican has threatened a reporter:

Representative Michael Grimm after Obama’s 2014 State-of-the-Union address. (more at the link)
He then walked away, and Scotto said, “So Congressman Michael Grimm does not want to talk about some of the allegations concerning his campaign finances. We wanted to get him on camera on that but he, as you saw, refused to talk about that. Back to you.”
With the camera still rolling, Scotto suddenly looks up, clearly startled.
“What?” Scotto asks.
And Grimm, again on-camera, though off-mike, can be heard speaking to Scotto in a low voice.
Grimm says, “Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I’ll throw you off this f——-g balcony.”

A statement by campaign spokesman Shane Scanlon blamed Jacobs for the incident, saying that he “entered the office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg’s face, and began asking badgering questions”.
“Jacobs was asked to leave,” the statement reads. “After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined. Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground.
“It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.”

Dick Morris called the Trump investigation a lynching. He was shockingly silence when that MS Republican called for lynching those who take down CSA participation monuments.
The canonical example of this was Clarence Thomas whining about his “high-tech lynching” during his confirmation hearings. Since Thomas did not end up dead, castrated and otherwise mutilated by a white supremacist mob for sport, he had no business talking about any kind of lynching.

My grandfather owned both a full sized & hand scythe. I used them as a kid. Or I tried to.
re: #346 Charles Johnson
I understand why Ariana Grande suspended her tour. She’s torn up by what happened and I don’t blame her. But this is exactly why terrorist scumbags perpetrate these crimes.
A better way to handle it would be to say: “I’m continuing the tour because I refuse to be intimidated by these monsters. I hope you’ll join me.”
Ms. Grande may know other things we don’t from the UK’s Home Office (perhaps information other attacks were planned), or perhaps she simply doesn’t wish to risk her fans.
I suspect she’ll either refund their money or reschedule the events.
re: #279 Charles Johnson
God damn. Now Sessions is in the Russian scandal too. And he was asked that question directly in Congress. This is way beyond coincidence now. Something really bad has been going on with these people.

re: #350 Anymouse
Either way, caving in to the terrorists is always a bad idea because it tells them that what they’re doing is working, and encourages more attacks.

When I was stationed in Rota, I decided to dye my hair auburn. Caught a lot of crap for a few weeks from my division senior chief, but it’s not against regulation.
When I reported for duty aboard USS Saratoga (CV-60) I decided to dye it back (partly because you can’t get hair dye at sea). I dyed my hair back as close as I could to its natural colour, and caught crap for a couple weeks over that. I had to explain I’d reported aboard with dyed hair that was not its original colour.

Right wingers are all tough Alpha males until people actually stand up to their bullying and then they become victims. See, Shapiro, Benjamin when Baby Whiplash tried to provoke a fight with a transgendered reporter.

I am not an expert on terrorism so I can’t say. It might also encourage an attack on a different performer.
Ultimately the call is up to Ms. Grande. If someone bombed a public performance I was at, I would think twice about doing another one.
It was the “pussy” tape for me. I heard it in October and thought to myself “there’s no fuckin’ way this guy wins, it’s fuckin’ game over for him!”
This is real life. This is not normal.

Follow the money. Although IIRC this particular form of corruption has been made legal.

Over a hundred people were killed at Bataclan in Paris during an Eagle of Death Metal concert. Eagles of Death Metal still plays shows.
Though some of the members have hardened their stances on things like guns and Islam.

That’s how I see it as well. Anyone who actually cared about that news was already not voting for Trump. “Persuadables” making last minute decisions between (R) and (D) obviously can’t care about (R) misogyny, so it would also have no effect there.
re: #337 prairiefire
How did the cataract surgery go? Do you have bionic lenses now?
I had them about 2 years apart. Kept having “clouds” floating around my vision so it was time. The surgery was very easy. The Dr used a plastic lens to replace the human one. At my first follow-up, I told the Dr that my vision was a little blurry on one edge. He used a tool and adjusted the tightness in one of the surgical knots while I was sitting on the exam chair and my vision cleared right up. Been about 10 years now and my vision is starting to become a little bit unfocused so it’s probably time to get glasses.
Whether it’s knee replacement or cataract replacement I’ll always tell you to “Get ‘er done” as soon as you identify the need. Gives you much more time to enjoy the results!

I’m waving at you and Anymouse from the ” Grownups Table.”
Sheesh, kids these days, what are we olders gonna do about ‘em?
I think how old one really feels is related to the way they see themselves. I’m older than both of you, but I don’t feel, think, or act like it! I think my mind will be forever young because I try to stay up on things, and I’m always “up” to something and don’t mind learning/trying new things.

Gianforte could have thwarted the whole nefarious scheme by simply not picking someone up and throwing them on the floor. Maybe this is the norm in Montana but here in Texas; yes, even Texas; people (especially politicians) are known to go for decades without body slamming anyone.

Regarding The Major…Eric the Fruit Bat.
I did a graphic for him a few days ago for his “The Major” project, which is how I understood it, a project to take on internet lying sites, fake news, etc.
Well, it appears The Major got a little over zealous with his new identity last night and got some people rather upset.
He apparently is lingering as he is aware of some of the discussion about him today.
He contacted me and wanted me to pass on this message. This will be the only time I will do this for him. He could say this himself. He still has posting credentials here as far as I know.

In regard to Release: Gianforte Statement
The ratfker lost it in public and revealed who and what he is, but it’s Ben Jacobs’ fault that he lost his mthfk*ng mind in public and left his own campaign event. The press release is a wonderful example of how a bully tries to transform himself into a victim after sh*tting in the middle of Main Street in view of many witnesses and pointing at someone else and saying, “He did that.”
