Trump Bans Transgender People From Military Service to Save Funding for His Imaginary Border Wall

Another step back toward the Dark Ages
Politics • Views: 35,006

Remember when Donald Trump said he was going to be the best friend LGBT people ever had?

He was lying, of course. Early this morning he made a snap decision, while sitting on his gold-plated toilet with his iPhone, to ban transgender people from all military service, and announced it on Twitter.

“MY generals?” I wonder how career military officers feel about Trump deciding he now owns them?

And it gets worse.

And perhaps the most disgusting part of this latest disgusting episode in the ongoing saga of the Trump Horror: he did this to keep a bill alive that would fund his idiotic imaginary border wall.

House Republicans were planning to pass a spending bill stacked with his campaign promises, including money to build his border wall with Mexico.

But an internal House Republican fight over transgender troops was threatening to blow up the bill. And House GOP insiders feared they might not have the votes to pass the legislation because defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.

They turned to Trump, who didn’t hesitate. In the flash of a tweet, he announced that transgender troops would be banned altogether.

He copies it from Stormfront, and then makes it sound even more stupid. WINNING!

Take racist rant. Remove outright racial slurs, replace with euphemisms. Insert a lot of repeated 1-syllable words. Rearrange sentences in pseudo-random order. MAGA!

I’m old enough to remember when Obama addressing children was cause for controversy and rage and that parents could even withdraw their kids from the Obama address because conservatives needed their anti-Obama safe space.

Next, 10-year old Melissa writes to say that Democrats are poopyheads and why did that awful Mister Sessions excuse himself and not protect my favorite president who should be on Mt. Rushmore?

Related, remember when RWNJ accused Obama of using children as human shields (various episodes).

The Trump administration’s response of “The Dems will have to explain this to blue collar workers in the Rust Belt.” So wait I thought they voted you because of jobs. So you’re admitting that you think their prejudices or what you perceive their prejudices to be a reason to vote for you. Seems to me that this is still the same Republican Party that used fear of same sex marriage to re-elect Bush in 2004 and fear of minorities to elect Nixon and Reagan. I would hope that your average rust belt blue collar worker would realize that a transwoman or man who wants to esrve wants the same as him or her. To be treated with dignity and respect under the law. We’re pretty sure my grandfather’s brother was gay. He served honorably. in WWII.

It’s really to the point where this sack of orange play dough is just daring someone to stop his madness now. And can we, now and forever, dispense with the idea that some spoiled rich fuck, under the guise of “businessman” is in any form or fashion able or qualified to run a country anywhere but into the fucking ground? PLEASE?

They really think transgendered just means a man in a dress. You’re absolutely right about that.

That doesn’t bother me, since that would still be a written bill, which could be run against if it becomes law.

The idea that bothers me is if the Congressional Republicans get the bright idea of ceding all power over US health care to the department of HHS, which could then rule by decree arbitrarily and capriciously.

It is vitally important for Americans to understand that this is the world that many liberals, in particular those in charge of the Democratic Party, wish to bring into being. President Obama ordered the normalization of transgenderism in the US military, and brought about a policy that compelled the Pentagon to pay for sex-change operations for soldiers. It was the Obama administration that issued guidelines telling public schools nationwide that they must accommodate transgender students in every way, including giving them access to the locker rooms and bathrooms of their preferred gender….When I wrote here the other day that I believe the Democratic Party wants to tear down Western civilization, this is the kind of thing I was talking about. re: #201 GlutenFreeJesus

Did any of you notice. Nobody is talking about Russia today.

Yeah………..maybe this is why: (autoplay vid embedded at link, btw)

Russia threatened to retaliate against new sanctions passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, saying they made it all but impossible to achieve the Trump administration’s goal of improved relations.

The measures push U.S.-Russia ties into uncharted territory and “don’t leave room for the normalization of relations” in the foreseeable future, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesday, according to the Interfax news service.

Hope “is dying” for improved relations because the scale of “the anti-Russian consensus in Congress makes dialogue impossible and for a long time,” Konstantin Kosachyov, chairman of the international affairs committee in Russia’s upper house of parliament, said on Facebook. Russia should prepare a response to the sanctions that’s “painful for the Americans,” he said.

The bill, passed by a vote of 419-3 on Tuesday, would strengthen sanctions against Russia less than three weeks after President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held their first official meeting at the Group of 20 summit. The measure, which now goes to the Senate, would let Congress block any effort by Trump to unilaterally weaken sanctions imposed under the Obama administration for Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential elections and its support for separatists in Ukraine. The White House has sent mixed signals about whether Trump will sign the bill.

A longer thread that I feel should be shared in it’s entirety:

2 If people really care about those things, they should pressure Congress to pass a budget on time.

3 The SecDef recently noted that by failing to pass a budget, Congress had “sidelined itself from its active constitutional oversight role.

4 blocked new programs, prevented service growth, stalled industry initiative and placed troops at greater risk.” thehill.com

5 Meanwhile, RAND estimates transgender troops would represent a 0.04- to 0.13-percent increase in active-component health care expenditures

6 and under “0.1% of the total force would seek transition-related care that could disrupt their ability to deploy.” rand.org

7 The ban doesn’t help the military, and probably stigmatizes the military as a retrograde institution to the younger generation

8 we’re trying to recruit, and who hold much more progressive views of transgender people than older generations.

9 So, I don’t buy that any of these folks really care so much about military effectiveness.

10 What this does do is divide up we see as full citizens, and who we don’t.

11 Military service is, for many Americans, the highest expression of citizenship, and it has been for a long time.

12 This is why black veterans were seen as a threat to white supremacists, and why they were aggressively targeted. eji.org

13 One Ohio congressmen argued against allowing African-Americans to serve during the Civil War because:

14 “If you make [the black man] the instrument by which your battles are fought, the means by which your victories are won…

15 …you must treat him as a victor is entitled to be treated, with all decent and becoming respect.”

16 Indeed.

17 I don’t believe in carving out segments of the democratic rock, and scorning their willingness to sacrifice on our behalf.

18 I suspect the fear here isn’t that transgender people will hurt the military, but that transgender people will succeed,

19 and show themselves worthy of the respect and dignity they are due as equal citizens.

You know, it really all goes back to the basic inability of Conservatives to comprehend that anyone’s experience might be different from their own.

The most important thing I learned in Couples Therapy is that you can’t see into anyone else’s head. You cannot presume to know what they feel, or think, or experience. So, while transgender is outside my experience, I realize that I have absolutely no ground to stand on to even have an opinion on anyone’s gender identity.

But if you lack the ability to understand that we’re not all the same, you can only assume that they FEEL LIKE you do, but CHOOSE TO act differently.

Humans like discrete categories, but nature provides spectra. This is especially true of conservatives, particularly the Talibangelicals, who divide the world in to US and THEM, Good and Evil, Right and Wrong, Male and Female, etc.

You can see it in how they look at guns - you’re a law abiding, responsible gun owner right up until you shoot someone, or your gun goes off and kills someone, or somebody’s kid kills someone with your gun. In that instant, you become Never-A-Responsible-Gunowner.

Trump hasn’t had a stroke or suffered a neurological disaster, and his behavior in the White House is no different from the behavior he manifested consistently while winning enough votes to take the presidency.

But he is nonetheless clearly impaired, gravely deficient somewhere at the intersection of reason and judgment and conscience and self-control. Pointing this out is wearying and repetitive, but still it must be pointed out.

You can be as loyal as Jeff Sessions and still suffer the consequences of that plain and inescapable truth: This president should not be the president, and the sooner he is not, the better.

The individual mandate polls badly because they decided to use it to demonize the ACA. When they came up with the idea in the first place, as the ‘Individual Responsibility Mandate’, it was the REPUBLICAN idea to balance the needs of insurers with the Democrats’ desire to provide coverage for preexisting conditions and no lifetime caps.

It looked like we were extricating with our last president. I didn’t see the huge backlash coming. Now we need to work on it even harder.

Turn Federal evidence and we would build statues of her.

WaPo has its report on this behind its paywall, so I’ll summarize it thusly.

The NAACP thinks charter schools can be great, but they are no substitute for well-funded, quality public schools.

“while high quality, accountable and accessible charters can contribute to educational opportunity, by themselves, even the best charters are not a substitute for more stable, adequate and equitable investments in public education in the communities that serve our children.”

IOW, the NAACP’s task force learned what a lot of we educators have been saying for years: charter schools are not a solution to poor performing public schools. They only divert resources away from public education. There are some very good charters, such as the KiPP schools, but most are no better than regular public schools in terms of student performance on standardized exams. Their main success is in segregating public schools, which is no doubt why Betsy DeVos thinks they are hot shit.

Public education historically has been the great equalizer for much of the country. Instead of trying to weaken public education, we should be trying to strengthen them. By the way, on a side note I recently reconnected with my 11th grade philosophy teacher. Loved that guy. He’s got a book due out and he was the best ever at playing devil’s advocate. I suspected he leaned liberal in his personal beliefs but he neve rwore them on his sleeves.

Russ “but her E-mails” Douthat on Trump:

Trump hasn’t had a stroke or suffered a neurological disaster, and his behavior in the White House is no different from the behavior he manifested consistently while winning enough votes to take the presidency.

I’m quoting this bit because again today, I saw someone posting a bit from a Trump interview from decades ago. I read one of his answers aloud to Mrs. FBW, and we were both astonished that this is the same guy who gave that frighteningly incoherent interview to the NYT last week. He used to speak in sentences and paragraphs, and was able to stay on the topic through the whole answer.

Now? It’s like words and ideas are buzzing around in his head and he’s grasping at them as he speaks, and whichever one he catches in that moment is what he says.

I really think he’s suffering some form of dementia.

Since she lied about working in the US on a tourist visa, she could be stripped of her citizenship and deported.

That was different. // The talking of supping her back to Slovenia reminds me of how my Slovene-America grandfather would always joke about shipping us back to where we lived after we had been at his house for a while.

Nope. Pretty sure the statute of limitations makes that impossible now, plus she married a citizen who happens to be POTUS. So, dream on.

Besides, she is not a Mexican or a Muslim, so she’s safe. //

If you listen to old clips of Mr. Trump from the Seventies or Eighties, he is quite coherent. I am not sure what’s wrong, but his doobie-smoking physician with his “healthiest president ever” letter failed the “do not partake of the drug supply” rule of pedallers.

Welcome to my world.

I was just looking at the pic of Heller smirking at the table during his meeting with the yam and it was the first time I noticed that my other charming senator is the one smirking on the other side of the yam. (He’s cropped out of most of the photos.) So proud.

what Cassidy and Graham fail to say is that those states not getting as much ACA funding are the ones that failed to participate in Medicaid expansion or even state level exchanges.

Not to mention, California has 35 million people. Makes sense there’d be more people on their exchange than any other 3 States.

According to my brother, one test for how far general paresis has progressed in untreated syphilis is to have the patient say “Methodist Episcopal”. If he says, “Methdiss Pizzful”, well that’s pretty far.

Perhaps they should slip that into one of his speeches. You know - just to be sure.
