There was a tweet storm late last year or early this year about a woman whose grandfather was involved in a resistance movement in Europe (I think France, but I’m not entirely sure) when he was 10-12. One of the things it talked about was how they had to be wary of “friends” that showed up with information that sounded a little too good to be true. I wish I could find it. What’s in it is still relevant because a war is being waged.

These fucking morons don’t know the difference (or don’t care) that Democrats meeting with Russians as part of their official business is a world apart from the illegal chicanery that the Trump cabal of cronies were involved in.
Trump’s cabal lied about meeting with Russians. They denied meeting with them, lied about the subject of the meetings (or how many). They lied about not being foreign agents (Flynn and Manafort were). Kushner, Junior, Sessions, and others all lied about contacts with Russians. Kushner and Sessions engaged in criminal acts, omissions on SF-86 and perjury, respectively.
Junior was contacting and communicating with Wikileaks, which was known to be connected to Russian intel services.
None of the Trump cabal were doing this as part of an official act. It was all done to manipulate election outcome.
So of course Gohmert is trying to conflate official actions that everyone in DC knows are sanctioned and legit with Trump’s illegal actions. This is all the GOP knows to do.

I dug out an old’ Nuge record earlier this year because my guitar jamming buddy hadn’t heard it. It was one of his last albums when he was still billing himself as Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, even though that band had been broken up for years.
It was “Call of the Wild” and it was sorta normal before he got all crazy and full of himself as a solo artist.
It had been years (30 or more) since I listened to it. Actually probably one of his better albums because it was straight up rocking. And way before he made it big with the stupid solo stuff that really sold and grew his head big.

Sessions is trying to avoid a perjury trap.
The problem is that Sessions isn’t smart enough to avoid perjury, let alone obstruction of justice because there are other contemporaneous documents showing what Sessions did or knew.
All of his statements can and will be used in a court of law and by Mueller in preparing his cases against the Trump syndicate. They’ll specifically question the fact that Sessions knew with amazing detail specifics of certain parts of a meeting, but not the issue relating to Russia-Trump. That shows intention to deceive and lawyers (especially Mueller’s team) knows how to deal with people like this.

SECURITY OR VIGILANTISM? “God’s Army” patrolling the streets of North Phoenix
A group that call themselves “God’s Army” is patrolling Valley streets, in the name of Jesus.
The group consist of former police officers and military members, and claims to have about 50 members.
They look like police officers, but their uniforms say “God’s Army” and “Jesus”. Richard Tamayo used to be a New York City police officer. Now, he’s “walking the beat” in North Phoenix.
“We are prior military, law enforcement background and experience,” said Tamayo. “We go out in the street wearing this uniform, glorify Jesus, go in areas affected by crime.”

Australians have just held a non-binding plebiscite on same-sex marriage, at the behest of the (center-right) Liberal-National coalition. The results are being announced now.
12,727,090 people responded, 79.5% of the Australian people. 78% participation from 18-19 year olds. Only the Northern Territory was notably below 70%.
Yes 7,817,247 or 61.6% of clear responses.
No 4,873,987 or 38.4% of clear responses.
(36,800 responses were unclear)
Every state and territory recorded a majority Yes result, with New South Wales at 57.8% with the lowest Yes result.
Of the 150 Commonwealth electorates, 133 had Yes majorities.

When did Roy Moore meet his wife?
According to recent allegations in the Washington Post and al.com, Roy Moore routinely pursued much younger women while he was in his early 30s, until he met and married a woman 14 years his junior.
Moore was 38 when he married 24-year-old Kayla Kisor. They met a year before they married, according to Moore’s autobiography, “So Help Me God.”
Moore wrote that he had been invited to recite poetry at a church Christmas party and spotted his future wife in the crowd.
lots more weirdness in the article, though…

Some context for this.
This plebiscite was pushed by the equivalent of the far right in Australia. Religion in Australia lacks significant political power, and the national culture as a whole is fairly godless, but the Australian conservatives have become more religious and more nationalistic over the past decade or so, mirroring politics in the rest of the world, though nowhere near the extent that we are familiar with in the US.
Typically, a social issue such as this does not provoke plebiscites or constitutional crises. Support for gay marriage is not a hot button issue that politicians run on, and such views are not something public figures get demonised for. Similar social issues, such as decriminalisation of marijuana and abortion rights, just get done by governments without putting them to broad plebiscites such as this. Something like this for an issue such as this is highly unusual, and I cannot remember a similar thing happening.
However, with a conservative party in power, and one that is slowly answering more and more to its own revanchist wing, as well as currently holding on to a razor thin majority, the Australian government decided to take the cowardly way out and acquiesce to this plebiscite. This was pushed by the far right to be done in a very specific way to try and distort the result; a) postal votes only, in an era where online participation by younger people is much more likely, b) no mandatory participation, which then mirrors the US model where apathy decides votes, rather than public interest, and is unusual in a country that has mandatory voting, and c) with sufficient lead-in time to run a US-style negative campaign to try to sway the result.
And yet here we are.

Reporter: “Well..”
Coach: “How the hell did I know she was 13? She looked 16 to me….”

Has Pauline Hanson denounced the plebiscite yet?
Pauline Hanson is something of yesterday’s news in Australia. I’m not sure if she’s even in government any more.
Another major benefit of mandatory voting is that when Australia does happen to elect the rare nutjob to a position of power, that nutjob is pretty much always voted out in one cycle, as people quickly realise ‘what the fuck was that all about?’

Hasn’t that been going on now for a few months or more?
From Baptist News Global:
The death of Christianity in the U.S.
Christianity has died in the hands of Evangelicals. Evangelicalism ceased being a religious faith tradition following Jesus’ teachings concerning justice for the betterment of humanity when it made a Faustian bargain for the sake of political influence. The beauty of the gospel message — of love, of peace and of fraternity — has been murdered by the ambitions of Trumpish flimflammers who have sold their souls for expediency. No greater proof is needed of the death of Christianity than the rush to defend a child molester in order to maintain a majority in the U.S. Senate.

They did the same thing with the empty Supreme Ct. seat—-followed right along behind McConnell and the other Senate bible-busters and denied Pres. Obama the right to fill that position. They knew it was wrong, but because right-wing politicians and interest groups decided to trash the Constitution to advance the party’s agenda, they were OK with that. I’ve been saying for quite some time now that it seems many evangelicals have replaced Jesus with right-wing politicians. How else to explain their dedication to Josh Duggar, Donald Trump, Roy Moore, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Louie Gohmert, and other high-profile right-wing deplorables? What they’re practicing isn’t Christianity, it’s a form of tribalism. They have lost the right to claim the moral high ground on any issue. Of course, I always suspected that the Moral Majority was a joke.
