The fall of a presidency presented in tweet form:

3
The Major  Nov 13, 2017 • 8:50:25pm

What the GOP must be feeling right now….

4
Targetpractice  Nov 13, 2017 • 8:50:27pm

The allegations have not only continued to mount, but they’d also increased in credibility with each passing day. Yet the Republican voters of Alabama are prepared to elect him to the Senate because they’d rather have a pedophile in the seat than allow a Democrat to take it.

MsJ  Nov 13, 2017 • 8:50:31pm

The irony of Trump being taken down by a tweet would be icing I’d be licking with a spoon for the rest of my life

6
Targetpractice  Nov 13, 2017 • 8:53:48pm

As for Don Jr’s tweets, it goes without saying that if this was Chelsea Clinton caught in communication with Fusion GPS, the GOP would be rushing to the nearest camera to declare that the dossier had been totally “discredited” and the Clintons revealed as in “collusion” with a foreign national to “steal” the election.

I don’t believe for a moment that the GOP’s response to the allegations against Moore is due to anything other than the age of the accusers at the time of the alleged events. If they were women in the 20s or older when Moore had tried to molest them, you would see a lot fewer calls for him to “step aside” and a lot more “skepticism.”

As expected, the county paper rejected my wife and my letter to the paper calling out the speaker’s statements at the Veterans Day Appreciation Luncheon. Unexpected was the publisher wrote my wife directly to say why he rejected it.

He claimed we had no right to state we were offended in the paper (technically true, since it’s his paper), and that what we said we walked out for was untrue.

For the second, he noted the speaker was a Marine, not a retired Navy officer, and sent a copy of the transcript of his speech as provided by him.

What’s in that speech copy is not what he said.

The paper is going to run the provided copy in its next issue.

We had a lively discussion here a couple of nights ago about age gaps in relationships.

I’ve been thinking about it and it occurs to me we were in fact making an apples to oranges comparison.

These men getting busted for years of sexual abuse against young women and girls aren’t do it under the pretense of wanting a genuine relationship or any kind of honorable romantic interest.

It was just about sex and using their power and experience to coerce young and vulnerable people to do things they didn’t want to do and didn’t even full understand.

These men get off not only on the sex act itself but also their ability to manipulate and control people much weaker than they are.

These kinds of things are a far, far cry from a mutual and consensual relationship between a 19 year old and a 37 year old and it’s very important we do not confuse them and call the blatant abuse out for what it is:

Appalling, disgusting and completely inappropriate.

Grandpa Bacon had a disastrous first marriage that drained all of his cash and net wealth he inherited from his grandfather. He was 22 years older than Grandma when they married on the day before Prohibition took effect. They were married for 52 years and both of them were heavily involved in the CIO Union organizing drives in the 30s and 40s.

The last Senators expelled from the chamber occurred in 1862 when 3 were expelled for supporting the Confederacy—Both Missouri and one from Indiana.

When Adam Clayton Powell was expelled from the House he appealed to the Supreme Court and they ruled in his favor in Powell v. McCormack so there is some legal precedent on this…

Progressive Christian:
How Ken Ham’s Religion Pushes Our Children Towards Atheism

My most pressing concern is that kids might believe the entirety of our faith is untrustworthy if Genesis is understood in any other way.

For these children who grow up and begin to find modern science compelling and at odds with the Young-Earth worldview, they become high risk for abandoning the faith because they have been preprogrammed and convinced that without Young Earth Creationism, the entire Christian faith is now called into question.

Sadly, our faith doesn’t have to be this way- a faith rooted in Jesus is strong and secure.

A faith rooted in a specific hermeneutical approach to one section of Scripture? Well, not so much- and they know it.

Ken Ham has built a house of cards where there wasn’t one to begin with.

Exactly. It’s so easy for adults to forget how much deference young children give older ones based approximately on the factor of the two ages. The difference between 4 and 17 is the same as between 10 and 42 & 1/2. This shit really pisses me off. One of my major pet peeves is when people act so goddamned fucking hyper literal in their definition of something that they completely ignore an absolutely goddamned key factor in understanding a situation.

I don’t actually believe that.

I mean, these are people who are quite literally saying ‘rather a pedophile than a Democrat’. It’s a cult. These people have lost their basic humanity. I truly believe that for at least 50% of Trump supporters, if Trump or someone equally FOX-approved were to murder their family member or molest their child, and FOX told them that the liberal media were the only ones upset about it and it was fine, they would agree. We see similar loss of humanity in the truly drug addicted, so strung out on heroin or crack that they will sell their own children for more drug, and hate is a much greater addiction for these cultists than crack.

What we’re looking at is formal jurisprudence—A is A is a crime—versus informal enforcement of social norms. The latter incorporates the power structure into it’s understanding of wrongdoing: people matter more and less to the community.

Hence the recurring fuckery—cross-culturally, even—of powerful men (and in particular, those with social capital in the form of sanctity) being granted sexual license by husbands and parents who should know better, but do the “math” that the man with power matters more and knows better. The cult theme of “leader with many wives and concubines” is just a hothouse varietal of an ubiquitous abuse of power.

Pretty lame this comes on the eve of Moore and allegations against former President Bush too. I don’t know what happened with Bill Clinton but if you’re using the allegations against him simply to smear Democrats while ignoring Trump and Moore in the modern GOP, you’re being a hack.

Clinton is an interesting case in that I’m still not sure what to think about the accusations against him. If he were 20 years younger and running for the Democratic Presidential slot today, I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole. My perspective is obviously clouded by partisanship, but given that Hillary is according the the RWNJ is the world’s most prolific serial killer, it’s very difficult to gauge to the extent he is an abuser and rapist and to what extent it’s just his history of being a sleazy womanizer being exploited by his political opponents. Broadrick’s accusations are in my opinion the most credible, but her targeting of Hillary over what amounts to a brief social interaction leaves me a bit bewildered. It’s almost as if she blames Hillary more than her alleged rapist for the incident.

Broaddrick refused to testify for Ken Starr. She had the chance to bring down Bill Clinton but she didn’t. I could never understand that.

Her decision not to testify then doesn’t really bother me any more than the fact that only now are women stepping forward to speak about Moore. I believe that Broaddrick believes she was raped. I’m just not sure that what Broaddrick believes now is what she believed then or what actually happened.

re: #62 wheat-dogg

I dunno. I’d like to believe that a RWNJ father would still go apeshit if an older man molested his teenage daughter, if only because he would consider the daughter his “property,” if you know what I mean.

There has been case after case where a young child takes a gun and kills themselves or a friend but the parents do not rethink their devotion to the gun culture and instead consider the death an accident, an act of God, rather than a preventable tragedy that was not preordained.

The Moore supporters are the same — they either see nothing wrong with an older man courting a teenager or they really believe that Moore is a godly man and infinitely better than any Democrat, no matter what his crimes. Last night, George Will said that the people of Alabama are better than this; I think he doesn’t understand the depth of depravity of too many, especially in Southern states, — particularly the white men who continue to be the base of Trump’s support

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a sales pitch to core members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Tuesday in hope they will open the door to Canada joining their exclusive and influential circle.
Trudeau said Canada looks forward to becoming a member of the association’s East Asia Summit and the ASEAN defence ministers panel at the earliest opportunity.

Alabama is 25% black, though I don’t know the percentage that vote. So the 38% basically shows that the almost all whites voted for Trump. I think it’s safe to say that demographics explain their vote for Romney. Yes — the women who have now been persuaded to come forth do object to what happened to them personally, but I have no doubt that they would have continued to support Moore if it hadn’t happened to them; My guess is that if the Post had not published the article they would have voted for Moore, despite what happened to them.

During the Obama years Alabama AA voters slightly overperformed in turnout. It was down for HRC, though still overwhelmingly Dem. We are even now at great disadvantage for the 12 Dec Special, and the rising tide of contempt in the media isn’t going to make the ground game any easier.

Much of that’s the Black Belt—named not for race, but for the soil color. It’s thinly settled, often with AA-majority districts. Some of the counties in it are among the lowest percentages of registered voters. Does include the Montgomery MSSA, with a large AA pop.

The Hill - Roy Moore holds 10-point lead in poll taken after accusations

I heard a report earlier today that Moore is up 10 points on The Groper.

And it is being reported by The Hill this morning.

Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore holds a 10-point lead over his Democratic opponent, according to a new poll.

The Emerson College survey found that Moore has the support of 55 percent of the Alabama voters polled, compared to 45 percent for the Democratic nominee, Doug Jones.

The poll was conducted from Nov. 9 to Nov. 11, after The Washington Post published its report in which a woman accused Moore of initiating sexual contact with her in 1979, when she was 14 and he was 32.

They would be stupid not to. Trump is going to kill NAFTA which is going to hurt the US bigly. Losing trade to Canada and Mexico is going to damage the US economy in a big way. Each country has to consider its own economy. The US isn’t All That any longer. We have a liar in chief who cannot be trusted.

This election is going to damage the US for a long time. I don’t even know if Mueller can fix it with whatever he is doing. Russia is getting everything it wanted. Civil war in the US would be icing, because the cake is already baked.

So inside a year we’ve gone from ‘No Russian contacts at all!’ to ‘Gee, we didn’t know they were connected to Russia! Gosh!

Lewandowski said there was no way to know if the Trump campaign knew of Wikileaks’ ties back then, despite remarks from the Trump-nominated CIA director Mike Pompeo, who has labeled the group a hostile, non-state actor with ties to Russia.

“I don’t know when Mike Pompeo made that statement about Wikileaks. My guess is that since he has only been head of the CIA since January and this occurred in October, I don’t know if we knew back in October if Wikileaks had that same type of notion behind them,” he said. “Maybe he did. Maybe he didn’t. I don’t think it’s fair to say that looking back a year ago that we would have known what Wikileaks was about.”

Lewandowski also pushed back on all of Cuomo’s questions about whether he had knowledge of anyone within the Trump campaign being in communication with Russian officials during the election. He swept aside all allegations that former campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos were in communication with Russian officials by saying the two were acting as private citizens, not campaign officials.

“What they’re doing (as private citizens), I can’t control,” he said. “I told (Page) ‘You can do whatever you want to do, you don’t work for the campaign.’”

Y’all thought you were smarter than everybody. Now your last line of defense is claiming that you’re every bit as stupid as we said you were. Good luck with that.

Well, the Omaha World-Herald rejected my Veterans Day letter in favour of letters saying such things as “Trump only erred in underestimating the depth and breadth of the swamp,” “Traitors such as Bowe Berghdal and Chelsea Manning will go on the liberal talking circuits,” and “illegal immigrants are taking American jobs.”

Apparently a veteran outraged over how veterans were treated at a Veterans Day event on the day after Veterans Day was not worthy of print in the World-Herald.

The city newspaper is not much different than our county newspaper in that regard. Apparently, the Omaha newspaper already had their one liberal note for the month.

On his questionnaire for the Senate Judiciary Committee, a copy of which was provided to The Daily Beast, Talley says that he was part of The Tuscaloosa Paranormal Research Group from 2009-2010. The group, according to its website, searches for the truth “of the paranormal existence” in addition to helping “those who may be living with paranormal activity that can be disruptive and/or traumatic.”

The state rural water association is in town now. They still want records we don’t have. Fellow just called me from the village hall suggesting I could pull the results of the last fourteen years of lead and copper samples from the state Website for water tests and submit that as our records.

I told him I already did that last summer and the state rejected that, as they want the test papers we do not have.

Why did I volunteer for this? I’m not even getting paid. The state folks are pressuring the state health department to issue an EPA violation against the village for not having the records, which I had nothing to do with.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. Trump’s on his way back stateside to the fact that his chosen AL Senate candidate Roy Moore now faces even more scrutiny over his actions.

Moore was always a bad choice, given that he had been removed from the state judiciary twice for refusing to follow law and rules. Now, we’ve got plenty of evidence that he sexually abused minor girls and was targeting high school girls while he was in his 30s as an ADA. It’s gotten to the point where we know that it was an open secret that he was chasing after high school girls, and that the only reason no one actually acted on his behaviors back then was because he was an ADA. Power has its privileges (as we continue to see across the board).

The reason people are able to focus on Moore’s behaviors and history is because the national media can actual dig into his background, but it’s stuff that even local media seems to have known of but never really dug deeper on. Now, everyone is digging, and the more you look, the more you find.

Of course, the women coming forward are being attacked for not coming forward sooner, which is precisely why they didn’t come forward sooner. Moore was a guy in power and who’d believe a teen girl was getting molested by Moore, an ADA.

Meanwhile, Trump continues pushing for tax cuts even though he’s absolutely clueless what the GOP plans actually do - and that the GOP plan limits tax cuts to the middle class so that they can make corporate tax cuts permanent along with tax cuts to millionaires (like himself, who’d benefit from the massive tax cuts for passthroughs and estate tax repeal).

Meanwhile, Sessions is calling on the DOJ to look at whether Clinton Foundation did anything wrong vis a vis uranium one deal.

These fuckers don’t know when to stop. This is straight up red meat to the ignorant know nothings who support Trump and think Clinton did something wrong.

Never mind that Clinton wasn’t directly involved.
Never mind that it took a unanimous decision by the panel of 9 agencies/departments to approve the deal.
Never mind that the agencies/departments would still approve the deal today.
Never mind that the sale didn’t actually mean Russia was in control of uranium or affected our nuclear weapons program.
Never mind that the Clinton Foundation didn’t profit from this, or that Clinton didn’t personally profit from any of this.

It’s all a sham and sideshow Sessions is throwing out there to deflect attention from the real story of Trump’s countless connections to Russia directly and by and through Wikileaks. Trump campaign, including Junior, Papadopoulos, Sessions, Kushner, Manafort, Flynn, and others all worked with foreign entities and agents (or were undeclared foreign agents themselves) to manipulate the election outcome, working with groups like Wikileaks to deflect attention shift the conversation away from Trump’s multitude of problems to focus on BS about Clinton. The actions constitute a conspiracy against the US and multiple violations of federal law.

Junior once again confirmed that he’s at the center of all this, but he’s repeatedly shown that the connections and coordination went all the way to Trump himself.

(They keep shaking me too hard about this water stuff, I probably won’t renew my license next month. That would hurt our town since there is no one else here qualified to be the village water operator, and would leave the problem to the state. Plus if enough people want to run me out of town, I don’t really see a need to spend the money on a license anyway - I can use the $150 fee for a license to drive to Canada.)

Now they’re doubting me about Clinton and I know why,

19 years old.

Moore sexually assaulted a 14 year old.

See the difference?

This wasn’t and isn’t a consensual relationship. It is de facto statutory rape because the girl Moore attacked cannot by law consent.

This isn’t a relationship. This was Moore sexually assaulting girls as young as 14. He was targeting minors.

I’ve got some nitwit on Twitter trying to Alabama-splain why this is acceptable behavior down there, and that the state doesn’t care about the law or that they don’t believe the claims against Moore (which again goes to why the women didn’t come forward even sooner).

It’s not just national media identifying the problems. Local media knows what was going on, and this is on them to inform their viewers/readers in a way they should understand.

My last saluts and greets from NY. (Yesterday I said my last saluts from NYC).

Thanks to lawhawk for graciously watching me mangle his catchline time and again.

Today’s runlog from Fishkill/Wappingers falls NY:
50 minutes at 29 degrees. I thought I was out where the buses don’t run. There were sidewalks. One other runner. Lots of kids waiting for school buses.

An interesting observation: I run in the cold maybe three times a year every year. over time I got the right clothing and made a table of what to wear for different temp ranges. Yes I’m anal and no I couldn’t keep it straight in my head.

From March to October or so it’s all hot weather. Then I’m faced with a cold situation and it sounds daunting. 29 degrees. I kind of forget I have a system. 29 degrees. brutal. Do I hafta? Why can’t it be…

The worst kind of run is one you want to be over from fatigue, pain or, gasp, boredom. The second worst is one you want to be over because you are uncomfortably cold. Today I was not.
I followed the chart wore the right stuff and was toasty warm the whole time. Trust your systems. Don’t second guess.

Flying back to sofla tonight. My skin is looking forward to reabsorbing some heat and lots of natural humidity.

At first, the students in the experimental class tended to fall victim to the Dunning-Kruger effect. They overestimated how well they would do on the tests by about 11 percent. But after a semester of guided study — and probably some blows to their pride — the students underestimated how well they would do on each test.

The class that got the guided study and the feedback on their quizzes also did better in the chemistry course. Overall, there was only about a 4 percent improvement in scores. But the poorest performing students — those who had been the most overconfident to begin with — showed the most improvement. Their grades improved by 11 percent. That’s enough to raise a D to a C. Casselman and Atwood published their findings October 20 in the Journal of Chemical Education.

“I think [the study is] thoughtful, it’s rigorous, it’s detail-oriented, and it was a pleasure to see it,” says David Dunning. Yes. That Dunning. The namesake of the Dunning-Kruger effect is a scientist who studies psychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The best way to get rid of dangerous overconfidence is to learn more, he says. And the method proposed in this study is one way to get there. “It’s the combination of having people guess and [having them] come up with a plan,” he says. “That combination seems to be key.”

I reside in Shasta County and not only is the area sparsely populated but heavily armed in this area. Tehama county is a filled with a lot people who would like to break off of California and start the State of Jefferson. It’s sad to say but I have been saying it’s only a matter of when not if a shooting happens in this area, and unfortunately it now has happened. A lot of angry, ignorant folks in this area and everyone is armed to the gills.

Just paged the analysis of Don Jr’s confession to basically colluding with Wikileaks/Russians.

Toobin went straight for the jugular.

“Because he’s not that bright,” he said.

Cuomo was taken aback by the blunt response.

“Wasn’t expecting that,” he said to colleague Alisyn Camerota.

Toobin elaborated.

“All of Donald Trump Jr.’s behavior suggests someone who is really not a terrifically intelligent person, someone who is crude in his thinking and is just trying to help his father get elected by any legal or illegal means he can.”

Thanks climate change.

Speaking of climate change, ol’ Al Roker on The Today Show reported today from the Houston area and gave some free stuff to the locals from Lowes, etc.

He said something really chilling. The Houston storm and flood was once considered a 100 year storm. He said climate scientists now say they can be counted on to be about every 12 years now and by 2026 or so we can expect them every 5 1/2 years.

Is anyone in this country thinking ahead how this is going cost us in lives and rebuilding?

Of course not. So coastal areas…you are in for a rough ride.
