cnn criticizes trump, fox criticizes cnn
My dad was rambling once about how Faux News is the only true “fair and balanced” network because they’re the only ones willing to give conservatives and Trump the time of day. I just stared blankly at him. Come on, Dad, just a year ago you thought Trump was a blithering idiot.

My dad also turns off the TV (or changes the channel) whenever a Democrat comes on because he doesn’t even want to listen to the other side anymore. That was about the point where I wanted a nice, solid table to bang my head on (and then flip).
britbox on amazon prime video has the full run of classic doctor who episodes. I’m starting again with An Unearthly Child. Oh my, this is fun. Bad early television lighting, a 50-dollar a week special effects budget, but in many ways, strangely, these are superior to the bulk of the latest incarnation.

Is that an add-on or is it part of the Prime package?

Modern American Conservatism really is a cult at this point. And it’s impossible to deprogram from when the cult owns the biggest news station in the land and can cow the rest of them with the deadly words of ‘fake news’ or ‘liberal media’.

When my dad started in about all the “Donald Trump fake news”, that was the moment when I knew I was losing.
According to Johnson and neighbor Kevin Tallant, other neighbors witnessed a young man who had a history of public intoxication walking around the house before and during the blaze.

Prob a fairly safe assumption. But I have heard some stories from women about horrors in their public and work restrooms.

One of my female co-workers did exactly that and the bosses closed that bathroom from most of the year until it was cleaned.

Oh boy. Person has food poisoning, something’s gotta give. Staggers back and the world blows up in that closet they call a head. Pilot come on intercom; “This is your captain speaking. Our radar is showing a bit of (bump) turbulence right ahead and I’m going to have the seatbelt (bang) light lit and we should be through this in (BLAM) a few minutes.”….
Back in the head, after having his/her first attempt at cleaning up go astray, (BLANG!) her/his head hits the sink, and her/him instinctively attempts to stand up (BOOOOOM!!!) and it’s all gone horribly wrong and they start to call out for help……and the door is kicked down and the screams and ensuing continuing turbulence (CLANG!) throws out the first rescuer into the aisle as the whole flight goes (BLAM!) nuclear and (BOOM)….
Man, I’m trying to find a copy of the Wolff book. It’s out of stock at all of the stores near me, and it’s a back order item on-line. Amazon is telling me that it will take 2-4 weeks to ship me a copy (I’m not a Prime member) even if I pay for 2-day shipping. This is kind of crazy.

Hey - just a little bit ago I was able to listen to that SRV Voodoo Child . (Through a very fine set of headphones.)
God damn.
Only in my dreams will I ever be that inside the music I’m playing. (And obviously forget playing like him. Even my dreams know 1,000 years wouldn’t be enough time to be as good as SRV. It’s like he is some kind of elemental or something…)
EDIT: By the way, great job imagining a really terrible in-flight nightmare!

After watching that SRV video, I watched some other YouTube videos of him. One was an interview where he was saying that the moment he starts thinking about how he’s playing, his playing starts to suck. He has to do it without thinking about it.

My point entirely. You know that favorite lead of your favorite guitar player you have memorized? If you go see them live, you will never hear it. Close to it. Like it. Note for note? Nope. But SRV, to me anyway, because his world was just about all pentatonic scale, always blew me away. He walked places I could hear in my head but my fingers failed me. He was the compilation of every guitarist he heard and loved. When I listen to him I hear them all. Perfect. Sublime. Complete.

OT: When I lived in Dade City, Florida, I preferred Publix to the other two stores in town (Winn-Dixie and Cash n Carry).
My family isn’t big on brand loyalty. I shopped at Publix, my mother worked at Winn-Dixie but shopped at the Commissary at NTC Orlando.
Winn-Dixie was a lousy company to work for then. My mother was once warned by the corporate office after someone ratted her out she was shopping at the Commissary that if she continued with that she would be fired.
My mother is not known for taking bullying (see also behind the privacy bar). She told the district manager that it would look really bad for Winn-Dixie if across the front of Tampa’s papers was splashed the headline “Navy Widow Denied Military Benefits by Winn-Dixie.”

It’s been a growing problem for years. At some point, we’ll have western water refugees heading east. They better not stop in West Texas, because they won’t have any either.

When they built the Hoover Dam and wrote up the Colorado River Compact, the West had a fraction of the population it does now, and they were basing water usage on an unusually wet period.
Now, we’re seeing the more typical water flow into the basin, and usage has skyrocketed, primarily because more people are stressing the system.
It is indeed a desert, and as people start to realize that a desert can’t support that kind of population, you’ll start to see people moving elsewhere (because without water, there’s no life).
Of course, technology might have something to say about that - with water recapture/reuse technologies to get potable water from runoff/waste, etc. beyond merely using those runoff/waste as grey-water for irrigation.

Wolff’s book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House also claimed President Trump uses drugstore Just For Men hair dye to brighten up his gray locks. That nugget, also said to be from Ivanka, further revealed Trump that bouffant’s unusual orange shade is because he is too impatient to leave the product on for long enough to achieve its intended shade.
President Trump’s eye-catching hairstyle attracts almost as much attention as his outspoken comments It said: ‘The color, she would point out to comical effect, was from a product called Just for Men — the longer it was left on, the darker it got. Impatience resulted in Trump’s orange-blond hair color.’

Absolutely true, but a temporary fix. We’ve got West Texans already drinking their own wastewater, but it’s damn expensive and can’t take any large increase in population because water there is a finite resource. Like land, they aren’t making any more of it.
Oh, and this is the fun bit, groundwater removal used in fracking (necessary for the boom in the old West Texas Permian Basin the last seven years) is unregulated, untaxed, and untouchable under State Law.

West Texas has a weird hydrology. Around the south half of the western part of the state, there are shallow bolsons with good water, but the deeper you go, the more Potassium, Nitrates, and Sulfates you get in groundwater, because of the extensive evaporite deposits in the subsurface. Loving County has no usable water at all and the County Seat (Mentone, pop. +/- 250) has to have potable water trucked in.
Most folks have heard of the Ogallala Aquifer, which stretches from South Dakota all the way to Midland, where it outcrops. Extensive cotton farming north of Midland has dropped the level of the sweet water, in some places, over 700’. This is obviously unsustainable, as the deeper you go, the sourer the water gets.
Water refugees in the US?
Guaranteed.

Because it’s not easy? The vast majority of oil/gas/disposal wells are safe because it’s damn expensive if they fail.
A lack of Federal oversight and enforcement makes it pay for a small well owner to say it isn’t happening, but it catches up with them in the end, by which time they have dissolved the corporation and absconded with the money that could have been used to clean up the mess. We don’t require small developers to have escrow funds necessary to clean up their messes.
This is not a progressive or conservative thing. It’s a regulatory thing.

I get random emails all the time on my Gmail account, because mine has a dot between first and last name but the emails are being sent to an address without the dot. Mostly, I suspect it’s senders who have bought a bulk-email list to drum up business. But it could be phishing attempts to get you to open the email, click on the link (to protest you are not that person), and deliver malware or add you to their email list.
If you open the email, DO NOT click on any link provided within. Check the raw copy (no HTML formatting) to inspect the links and contents. Better yet, if it has come from a business you frequent (bank, credit card provider, etc.), skip the email links and go directly to their business website.

The funniest thing occurred to me—Republicans screaming that the texts between Peter Strzoc and his “friend” call into question Mueller’s judgment for letting bias into his team. We all know how stupid that is. They also expressed contempt for Hillary and for Bernie. And it’s their right to hold private opinions. But basically, they just called Trump a “fucking moron.”
Gosh, now we learn from Wolff (what we already knew): Trump’s entire staff thinks he’s a “fucking moron.” Strzoc was in good (bad) company.

From what I am gathering there is no way that Trump could do a State of the Union address.
If his attention span is as short his inner circle claims then there is no way that he could stick to the teleprompter for an hour. If he goes rouge and turns it into a rally then it would be a national disaster with the dems whooping, hollering and throwing tomatoes which would make Donald call for their arrest right there on the spot.

It’s being floated right now, that’s why I posted that rant. Fuck that shit.
Another Charles agrees with you:
Nobody truly can be said to be NeverTrump anymore who is not also NeverMcConnell, NeverRyan, and, frankly, NeverGOP, at least in its current manifestation. The prion disease has triumphed completely. The patient is brain-dead, but still deadly in its contagion.
And then there’s his description of the Lindsey conversion, that I have to say is still puzzling to me (and I still think it has to be more than the rumors about his sexual orientation):
Grassley is just an old crank having fun in his legislative dotage, but the conversion of Lindsey Graham into a Southern-fried Lewandowski has been a dark wonder to behold. I’m not an adherent to conspiracies about kompromat but, Jesus H. Christ on a covert wiretap, this transformation cannot be explained by conventional political science.

When I was a little kid, like in the 50s, my mom told me that the best insurance my dad could ever have to protect his family was a strong, educated wife who could support the family without him if needed. May I suggest that you and she start doing this, bill paying and financial planning, together, like now? This is essential information she needs to know. Don’t wait for a crisis. Seriously.
That bit where Wolff gets criticized because he said he can’t be sure of the facts in it is a twist on what the book is about and how it was based.
I don’t know a damn thing about Michael Wolff, but I know he is quoting people in the White House. It is the premise of his whole book.
Book Theme: An expose of what is going on in the Trump White House and what people on the staff are saying about him.
What Wolff can’t say is true are the statements of the people he is quoting.
If someone has a grudge against Trump on his staff, they could say anything, even mocking lies, or overblown situations after the facts.
But they said them. And he built a book on them.
He said you can interpret them yourself…read the book.
It all shows what a mess the White House is and how Trump can’t even get a little respect from the people that work for the President of the United States.
Pathetic.
And if the people that work for him hate his ass enough to freely dump on him; hello America we have problems.
That is the goddamned book’s message!!!

Thank you. As one who was suddenly widowed, I can’t even imagine having that ignorance on my plate as well. I was lost, insane, my life’s rug pulled out from under me. At least I had that under control as much as possible having been the bill-payer. I knew how to keep things running even while the rest of my world was spinning. I’ve know so many women who had no clue because their husbands had always taken care of financial matters who were lost, and often taken advantage of. Keeping a partner in the dark is no gift.

re: #17 steve_davis
britbox on amazon prime video has the full run of classic doctor who episodes. I’m starting again with An Unearthly Child. Oh my, this is fun. Bad early television lighting, a 50-dollar a week special effects budget, but in many ways, strangely, these are superior to the bulk of the latest incarnation.
Actually, the debut episode was a bleeding-edge BBC production for the time (late 1963), especially considering it was done in two live takes. The only manual edit point, when they stopped filming, is the entrance to the TARDIS. The rest of the “edits” are realtime vision mixing across different cameras and studio sets and different actors, which is pretty bonkers when you consider the complexity of some of the scenes.
The most obvious example being Ian and Barbara in a car, outside Totter’s Lane, musing on the titular Unearthly Child, interspersed by POV flashbacks from their dealings with said Child. Given this a live take, how can the actors playing Ian and Barbara seemingly be in two places at once? Answer: they had surreptitious mics in the “car”, and used them as voiceover mics when the vision mixers switched to the flashback scenes happening in the other set.
