In a Rush to Blame the Left, White House Press Corps-Accredited Gateway Pundit Doxes Wrong Person in High School Shooting

WTF • Views: 56,413

Jim Hoft (aka, the Stupidest Man on the Internet) collaborator Lucian Wintrich is definitely working with the right person, because he’s equally hateful and equally stupid. (That’s his headline above.)

In the wake of today’s awful mass shooting at a Florida high school, Wintrich followed in Hoft’s footsteps with one of their tried and true right wing smear tactics — trying to prove immediately that the perpetrator of this horrible crime was a “registered Democrat.” They’ve pulled this little scheme so many times it’s impossible to count them all — they do it every single time, and that’s no exaggeration.

And this time, in their rush to pin this on the left, Wintrich doxed the wrong person: BREAKING: Don’t Let The MAGA Hat Fool You, Hispanic Shooter “Nicolas de Jesus Cruz” Was A Registered Democrat.

Notice how he specifically identifies the suspect as “Hispanic,” because that’s how grotesque and blatant Gateway Pundit’s bigotry is.

Wintrich’s source for the name of the shooter is a sketchy anonymous Twitter account that provides no link to back up the identification:

And that’s all he needed. Based on this one tweet, Wintrich rushed over to the Florida voter registration rolls, looked up the name, saw that “Nicolas de Jesus Cruz” was registered as a Democrat, and blasted it out on the Internet to their many right wing followers.

And it was the wrong person. The accused shooter actually spells his name “Nikolas Cruz,” according to the Broward County Sheriff’s office.

And far from being a “Democrat,” the real Nikolas Cruz was apparently fond of extreme right wing causes, was virulently anti-Muslim… and was a fan of Donald Trump.

“I knew him to be passive aggressive but not violent. He was rude to people. He had an act up like he was tough. He never got into like physical fights with anyone but he did get into verbal arguments,” 17-year-old Ocean Parodie told The Daily Beast. “I just thought he dropped out of school, I didn’t think he would do anything. He always kept a low profile.”

“He was definitely not accepted at our school socially. People saw him as someone who was different than the normal people at our school. At our school we have something called the Emo Gazebo. That’s where all the kids that are considered weird or not accepted sat. Kids at the Emo Gazebo didn’t even accept him there. He was just an outcast,” Parodie added.

“He always had his hair short. He always wore like really patriotic shirts that seemed really extreme, like hating on the Islamic religion. For example, he would say things such as like, he would degrade islamic people as terrorists and bombers. I’ve seen him wear a Trump hat. I don’t know if he ever said anything about women. He didn’t have any friends,” he said.

Nice work, Lucian Wintrich. You’re upholding the Gateway Pundit tradition of being stupidly wrong and creepily hateful.

And we should note in closing that this horrifyingly bad blog is now an accredited White House correspondent with access to the press room, and Donald Trump himself frequently tweets links to their garbage fraudulent articles.

But, once again, it is the left who is blame.

Interesting that a classmate of Nikolas Cruz’s makes the point that he didn’t fit in at Douglas High - anywhere: according to reports, that school has 3200 students: I know it’s easy for loners and oddballs to fade into the background at big institutions, but SRSLY? At a HS of 3200 kids, he couldn’t find at least one clique??

BTW, does “Nicolas de Jesus Cruz” - whoever and wherever he might be - have any sort of legal recourse against the Gateway Pinheads for doxxing him like this? I’m guessing (unfortunately) not - but don;t know the law that well.

A sax player I worked with once told me the best way to knock out a cold was to drink a bottle of whiskey and get under several layers of blankets until you sweated it out.

I’ve never tried that approach. He’s dead now.

I’ve done that, but it doesn’t take a whole bottle. A couple of shots is enough for me.

Maybe I’m just a lightweight, though.

In all seriousness, “large bullets” have their uses; if you are okay with the idea of hunting animals, there are some animals that need some pretty big firepower. Even here in the US, hunting bears or moose takes a rifle with serious energy. Outside of that, though, I completely agree with the idea of restrictions on magazine sizes and making them hard to modify.

Regulate the sh*t out of me.

Make me pass a yearly test. Do a yearly background check.

Make me register my guns once a year like I do my car, boats and trailers.

I know what my guns can do, I have no problem with the government knowing exactly who has what and when they have it.

I want it.

Seventeen people dead in a mass shooting.

Sorry, I just sort of felt like it had to be said again.

I’m literally sick to my stomach that this is now normal, just another day in America.

I also feel like a shitty person for feeling smug that I live in a metropolitan area of 35 million people and there won’t be a single firearm-related homicide today or any other day for the foreseeable future.

You’re right - they used large-caliber, single-shot, bolt-action rifles (and in a lot of places, still do). Like I said, big bullets might have a use. Large magazines, semi-automatic fire, modifiable to full-auto - no reason whatsoever that I can see.

The problem with comparing an AR to a vehicle or a knife especially is the rate that gun fires at. That gun was invented to shoot and kill many people at many times. That’s why it was invented.

“Large bullets” isn’t really an issue in this kind of shooting.

The preferred weapon is an AR-15 variant, and that’s a .223 or a NATO 5.56x45mm cartridge. Comparatively small projectile that does damage because it destabilizes when it impacts something solid (like tissue or ballistic gel), causing more damage than a big shell that goes through-and-through.

What is fucking me up tonight is that the simplest not-guns way to slow down this kind of violence AND the more common domestic murders that don’t get press when it’s just a wife/girlfriend/ex-wife/ex-girlfriend…would be to take intimate partner violence more fucking seriously.

But we’re not fucking doing that. Men that beat their kids get to keep their guns in case they need to defend their kids (you know, except for, against them).

Thing is, if we actually viewed unhealthy anger or precursor-to-violence behaviors as mental illness, there’d be a whole set of terminology and conditions to describe this. But there aren’t: being fucking crazy angry is not just normal, but celebrated. Especially among males.

Same again—we don’t really discuss lack of empathy as a trait beyond the label “sociopath” and “psychopath”…it’s salted into several personality disorders, but it’s just another symptom, not something we hone in on and, again, have a lot of language for.

“Mentally ill” is just another way of saying “it wasn’t one of us, we’re all fine, this isn’t something to reflect on.” Hence why it’s a fucking cop out among cop outs.

Yeah, weren’t those great? Not bad for tornadoes, though.

But the thing about the nuke drills was you knew the nukes might never come, and if they did you were vapor, and there was nothing you could do about it either way. What’s different today is that kids know it’s all too possible some asshole will wade into their school building with an AR-15 and 30-round magazines hanging down to his butt, shooting whoever comes into his sights. And so the drills take on a grim reality as opposed to the nonsense of the nuke silliness.

Even if there were never another school shooting, the gun crazies should rot in hell for what they’ve done to little kids’ minds.

One of the reasons I’m for gun control is that when I lived in LA I got involved in a road rage incident with an outrageous asshole, and I’m absolutely convinced that he would have tried to shoot me if he had had a gun in his vehicle.

It’s already up there, but I’d probably replace that last one now with semi-automatic. I still don’t think high caliber is needed by the average human, though.

And I’ve seen a few .223 in a wood stock and scope with an internal clip. Good varmint gun that can take a deer as well. If you can’t take prey with 4 or 5 shots, you’re doing it wrong.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this kind of trauma leads more of these kids to become gun nuts when they grow up than would have otherwise been the case.

I remember posting Twitter videos here the night the Vegas massacre went down, and I speculated that the perp or perps were using fully automatic high-powered rifles that are usually only military or law enforcement issued weapons. I was wrong. It was a fully legal modification for AR-15 rifles and its variants.

Gun laws in the U.S. are fucked up and bullshit.

How many people have to be sacrificed to appease the Gun God? When do we stop letting the NRA control gun laws? When does this madness stop?

It ends when Americans actually do something about it. As a nation, though, they don’t, because as a nation, they like it this way. We can say that 80% or 95% of Americans support more gun laws, but then they vote against them. And they vote for people who get rid of gun laws. And they vote out people who try to enact gun laws. I can only conclude that they actually prefer human sacrifice. Or perhaps they don’t, but are unable to help themselves when they are told to vote a certain way and must obey. In the end, it is a distinction without a difference.

Making it a “mental health” issue is a cop out. We don’t want to admit that a person of sound capacities could do this. And the right in this country has never cared about the mentally ill except as a crunch to prevent sensible gun legislation.

It is a cop out, but it’s very much a “why not both?” issue.

The #1 cause of gun deaths is male suicide via handgun. That’s a mental health issue. We need to address it.

But mass shootings…a shooter may be mentally ill (schizophrenia, bipolar) but from what I’ve seen mass shootings are people on the anti-social continuum. In other words, someone bipolar can also be a sociopath but those are two different things and do not necessarily travel together.

So we should be able to address mental health issues apart from guns as well as gun control independent of mental illness. Where they intersect the most is male suicide. Which has nothing to do with mass shootings.

Vested interest. I’m bipolar with delusional affect unless I am on some strong meds. If you met me in person you would never know. And for my own safety I do not EVER want a gun.

Your whole post, which I’ve only excerpted here, is very, very insightful. But I can’t agree that male suicide via firearm is necessarily a mental health issue. A couple of years ago a near neighbor went out on his back deck and watched the sunrise and then blew himself away with a shotgun. But he was an old guy, older than me, who had lived a rich and pleasurable and rewarding life in places far from our little corner of nowhere. And he had received an unquestionable and soon-to-be-painfully-fatal cancer diagnosis. His life had been lived and was done, as far as he was concerned. I see no mental health issue here, and he’s far from the only such case.

OTOH, I knew a fairly young guy (early forties) with a wife and a couple of kids and no known health problems, who got up from watching TV with the family and went into the bedroom and fired a .357 magnum through his skull. Nobody knows why, and that’s probably the kind of thing you’re talking about.

More about the ivy (because my heart was already aching from the memory of her loss, and I just can’t even about today’s tragedy, at least not right now): she had this ivy plant for at least 15 years before she died, and she’s been gone for 19 years now. When I moved to Costa Rica I gave it to my mother in law and she cared for it for 5 years and gave it back to me when I moved back 5 years later. Tonight the heart shaped shadow was like my mom waving hi to me. And never more needed than on a night like tonight.

re: #188 The Ghost of a Flea

Your posts are reminding me of this article I recently read, sadly even more relevant now:

Why We’re Underestimating American Collapse

Let me give you just five examples of what I’ll call the social pathologies of collapse — strange, weird, and gruesome new diseases, not just ones we don’t usually see in healthy societies, but ones that we have never really seen before in any modern society.

America has had 11 school shootings in the last 23 days. That’s one every other day, more or less. That statistic is alarming enough — but it is just a number. Perspective asks us for comparison. So let me put that another way. America has had 11 school shootings in the last 23 days, which is more than anywhere else in the world, even Afghanistan or Iraq. In fact, the phenomenon of regular school shootings appears to be a unique feature of American collapse — it just doesn’t happen in any other country — and that is what I mean by “social pathologies of collapse”: a new, bizarre, terrible disease striking society.

re: #78 bill d. (b.d.)

If you kill a guy you take out 1 person, if you injure one person then you take out at least two (the victim and one to help him)

That is what I was taught?

That was what I was also told regarding the current standard military pistol cartridge, the 9mm Parabellum. That it was designed by the Germans at the beginning of the 20th Century to wound rather than kill.

This would supposedly cause more people to become ineffective because they would have to have multiple haul out the wounded. Instead armies just banned evacuation of the wounded by combat soldiers. Another rosy military prediction that was wrong.

Interestingly, development of the past 30 -40 years had made that cartridge more lethal. Humans are really good at figuring out how to hurt other humans.

re: #57 stpaulbear

Why do you need so much ammo at one time? What are you expecting?

In terms of numbers of rounds. From what I have seen…

If one wants to acquire professional shooting level skills, one can easily target shoot 10k to 20k rounds a year. (At $0.10 to $0.25 a round.)

No I do not and never have shot professionally. My eyesight is not good enough.

Combat loads for a light infantry (on foot) rifleman were generally in the 300 round range when I was in the Army. Mostly because of the other crap that they had to carry around.

As a civilian, if I was in a real gun battle, I suspect that I would either survive or die within the first 10 shots.

On the other hand, I know folks who during the Obama Administration bought, literally, pallet loads of ammunition. Some were panicking. Others thought that they were very cleverly speculating. Ammunition prices have fallen and availability has massively increased since the first panic buying.

Many of those folks, were never, in my estimation likely to ever shoot anywhere near that amount of ammunition in their lifetime. And when they pass away, their children and widows will have to deal with a huge amount of hazardous waste.

I agree with the posters here that see a huge streak of authoritarianism in the pre-Trump Republican Party. Its response to becoming a minority party during the Obama years was to try ruthlessness in order to maintain power.

And I do find many of Frum’s policy goals detestable.

I think (and hope) that there is some additional context to what Frum (who is a Never-Trumper) is saying. I think that he is arguing to the anti-trumpers that they should fight the Trumpkins and take back the Republican Party rather than totally abandon it.

Personally, I hope that they get crushed in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024. That is the only chance to fix the damage that has been caused in the past two years.

I didn’t think much of it, beyond making a sheriff of Nottingham joke. Our legal system is derived from the English common law and Anglo-American is a term I’ve heard before in the deep study of law and jurisprudence. The problem wasn’t the Anglo-American bit, it was the dog whistle to sovereign citizen types who see the office of sheriff as the only legit law enforcement agency

It’s pretty much bullshit, like so much racialist stuff is. Even the English aren’t particularly Anglo. Although the name “England” and the name of the English language come from the Angles, they were just one of countless groups who had their moment in the fog and rain and then were overrun and bred into other groups over the centuries. “Anglo” is damn near as meaningless as “Aryan.”

re: #30 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

AR15 rifles fire a .223 bullet (5.56x45mm), which is actually pretty small for rifles. Meant to kill people, not deer.

That is my understanding too.

Iirc, in Pennsylvania in the 1960’s and 1970’s .223 was banned from deer hunting as it was considered too light a bullet to humanely kill a deer. And up through WW2 it was considered insufficiently effective on an adult male human targets.

I suspect that the high death rate in school shootings is due to two factors. First, children are generally much smaller than adult males so such bullets do more damage. Second, it is easy to shoot a defenseless innocent person multiple times.

To me, AR style weapons are designed for hunting armed humans who shoot back.

Sigh, humans are amazingly good at figuring out ways of hurting other humans. :(

Southern Comfort is my go-to even though I don’t normally like it. It’s hundred proof for quick relief and is honey-easy on the throat. It will also give you a hangover that will make your cold feel like a minor matter, and will force you to drink quarts of water the next day. With which you should take DayQuil, and when that dries your sinuses painfully (again masking the cold) you will again drink more water.

Repeat treatment the following night as needed.

For what it’s worth, Southern Comfort was reputedly Janis Joplin’s favorite booze, but I was blessed to spend some considerable hours drinking with her and never saw the stuff.

I have been exposed, started feeling the tickle. That has always led to me getting really sick. At least once a year. With the flu shot. Started Airborne at first sign a few years back, and have not had one of those since. I keep it on my shelf, and you aren’t going to change my mind. I probable won’t change yours either, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

A former student opened fire at a Florida high school Wednesday, killing at least 17 people and sending scores of students fleeing into the streets in the nation’s deadliest school shooting since a gunman attacked an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

The shooter, who was equipped with a gas mask and smoke grenades, set off a fire alarm to draw students out of classrooms shortly before the day ended at one of the state’s largest schools, officials said.

Some years ago, there was a game in the concealed carry world to “collect” as many states as one could. Basically get rights to conceal carry in as many states as possible.

One would get a concealed carry in one’s home state. And then qualify for as many non-resident state licenses as one could conveniently and reasonably afford. Since different states recognize different sets of other state’s licenses, one could sometimes get recipricol carry in 20 or more states.

At one time Florida non-resident license was big in Virginia for that reason. Don’t know who it is these days.

Briefly, we shared a favorite bar, the Coffee Gallery in North Beach, where we met and would knock back a few, or more than a few, together now and then. And we tended to bump into each other at parties of mutual friends/acquaintances, where we also knocked back various quantities together. We had of course recognized each other as rebel outsider outcast rednecks with brains. She was a good ole girl whose brake linings had unfortunately burned out a few hundred miles back. But Christ what a heart and what a talent.

I’ve talked about the night she died elsewhere on LGF, a night I’d spent at a Dead/Jefferson concert at Winterland. I wan’t to make it clear that we were occasional drinking buddies, not lovers. I used to joke that I was probably the only straight guy in San Francisco who hadn’t slept with either Janis or with Grace Slick, but then I realized how stupidly churlish the joke was, not to mention that I had obviously missed something on both counts.

Well, it seems there are about four degrees of separation between me and Meghan McArdle. Thus, on Facebook, I was privy to some backstory of McArdle. It seems she is a female version of the disaffected, awkward upper-middle-class youth represented by such luminaries as Rage Furby and Ben Shapiro. She was isolated and scorned in high school, as a former classmate/campmate tells it — awkward, overweight, and bullied “like Piggy in Lord of the Flies.”

Then she discovered her true calling, shilling for the Koch Brothers.
