Got CL’ed, so…reposting on the shiny new thread:

Wow…read this article:

…and this quote:

The movement, Gonzalez tells reporters, “is probably gonna be years, and at this point, I don’t know that I mind. Nothing that’s worth it is easy. We’re going against the largest gun lobby. We could very well die trying to do this. But we could very well die not trying to do this, too. So why not die for something rather than nothing?”

When someone holds and lives that belief, there really is nothing that can stop them (not even death, because the movement they spawned would live on). Indeed, what she says reminds me of another young person who took a stand despite the tremendous personal risk:

“How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause?” Sophie said. “Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go,” she continued, “but what does my death matter, if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?”

And when he loses, they’ll insist that the loss is not due to the party of its views, but simply that he was a shitty candidate. They absolutely refuse to address why their party keeps attracting so many shitty candidates. Or why they support these candidates to the hilt until the moment they lose, when suddenly they all agree that the candidate was a poor choice and never should have run.

“My story really is incredible,” Hughes said. “It’s got a bunch of storylines — the garage-built thing. I’m an older guy. It’s out in the middle of nowhere, plus the flat Earth. The problem is it brings out all the nuts also, people questioning everything. It’s the downside of all this.”

His future plans are simple: Fill out the paperwork to run for governor.

“This is no joke,” Hughes said. “I want to do it.”

When somebody has a wound to center mass from a bullet doing a random walk through their insides, they definitely need chest compression.

Everything these people say is devoid of meaning. Words are conjured with, not used because of their definition. Santorum doesn’t know what CPR entails, or when its useful, and doesn’t care…it’s just an available concept that can be thrown at people as a tu quoque, invalidating them.

Screw all of them.

This is how extremism is amplified. Give them a microphone so they can say crazy shit and we can all go ‘OMG did your hear what Whacko said’ and the page clicks roll in.

Right. The government pays when his official acts, executive orders, like the muslim & trans bans are challenged. Trump, his campaign, or his private supporters pay when he’s sued personally for things like emoluments clause violations or feels a need to mount a preemptive defense to the Mueller investigation.

More importantly these public vs private defenses are carried out by two entirely different legal teams. The White House counsel and solicitor general defend against challenges to the government and Trump’s private counsel defends against suits targeting him as an individual.

Not in geostationary orbits, but low-Earth orbits. Which, of course, need a round Earth to orbit. They are electronic, so need quantum physics to be a usable set of theories. Also, GPS measurements need relativistic correction due to the difference in gravitational pull from the satellite to the ground. So, the fact that you’re getting a useful GPS geolocation means that a lot of modern science was a huge success.

We can get guns out of the hand of the depressed and clinically mentally ill if there’s a will to change the laws so that you cross reference mental health treatment with gun background checks.

And you can do that with domestic violence as well.

You’d reduce gun violence significantly with those two measures - because between suicides and domestic violence, you’ve captured a significant chunk of gun deaths.

The GOP/NRA would do anything to prevent either/both from happening because it would put a crimp in sales.

They have explanations for all of that, at the University of YouTube.

Look for “flat earth” in the search bar.

There are also a whole bunch of debunking videos, especially by a person who goes by the name of Professor Stick (he also debunks a whole bunch of other pseudoscience from both young earth creationists and other forms of anti-science from religion).

The overwhelming majority of flat earthers are also young earth creationists, though not all are.

For example, debunking claims about moonlight from flat earthers (including claims that the earth must be flat to have a solar eclipse).

He explains in simple terminology (because he debunking simple people):

Part of the sickness the NRA encourages is the perception of guns as effective tools for any purpose.

If you want to use them to hunt, fine. If you want to use them to defend your home, then I guess that is your good right.

But the perception they sell that guns are effective tools to stop an active public shooter is fallacious and based on the presumption that the “good guy with a gun” has years of training, excellent situational awareness and nerves of steel. That is not a skills set you can acquire over the counter at the local sporting goods section.

I don’t know if she ever has, but I’d be interested if she has ever admitted her party did in fact elect the monster and explain why they did. It’s fine she throws rocks, but the rocks she should be concerned with are those in the heads of 90% of her party.

Seeing that attempted “Jew boy” slur makes me think of Porky’s and how, at the school dance towards the end of the movie, Tim’s hoodlum biker dad crashes the party, tries that shit with the exact same words on Brian Schwartz (played by Scott Colomby who, I realized only in the past few years, also played D’Annunzio in Caddyshack), slaps Tim around when he intercedes, then ends up getting his face smashed in by Deputy Jarvis and a vow by Tim that “if you ever touch me again, I’ll kill you”.

That last part gives me warm and fuzzies.

Told my dentist I prefer no anesthetics for dental work unless absolutely necessary (I’m extremely sensitive to even the short acting versions). He reluctantly agreed, with the stipulation that if I started to move or jerk then he’d only proceed after anesthesia.

After finishing one session which required drilling extremely close to a tooth nerve, he remarked that I had an extremely high tolerance for pain.

I replied “Well, I have been married over 25 years…”

He started to laugh until getting an epic side eye from his assistant, who happens to be his wife. And all the female employees gave me looks for a while after. My spouse, by the way, thought it was hysterical.

“My name is Carmine. I don’t know why you’re fucking with Mr. Trump but if you keep fucking with Mr. Trump, we know where you live and we’re going to your house for your wife and kids,” the caller said, according to the account that the attorney, Kristopher Hansen, gave to the Holmdel police department in New Jersey.

Just thought I’d add something else. If this turns out to be an illegal campaign contribution, I wonder if that would somehow nullify the contract as possibly a contract void against public policy. (Otherwise, I thought Stormy came across as credible, believable and as someone who has no further fucks to give.)

There’s the false myth that most suicides are planned in advanced. Suicide tends to be an impulse thing, with most suicides happening within the first hour of the thoughts entering, and the bulk of those in the first hour happening within the first 15 minutes.

re: #301 BeachDem

The most amazing part of the 60 Minutes story was that there was a commercial for a Chappaquiddick movie directed by some guy I’ve never heard of, written by two guys—one of whom has this as his only writing credit and the other one has a few other credits for things I’ve never heard of, and one of the notes on IMDB says that Ben Shapiro featured the trailer on some show, and my only question is WHY?

(Otherwise, I thought Stormy came across as credible, believable and as someone who has no further fucks to give.)

In a bit of coincidence in this thread, Allen’s company Entertainment Studios is distributing that movie.

Why do all these nitwits think that they’re going to be invulnerable and get off the first shot when confronted in an active shooter situation?

Oh wait, I answer my own question. They believe that they’ll do a better job that everyone else who’s ever been in that situation, including the cops and SWAT who practice for those situations and more often than not are left cleaning up the mess after a mass shooter kills a bunch of people and then commits suicide.

That’s how most of those mass shootings end, not with a good guy with a gun ending the bad guy.

They only think the Nazis are bad because they were told the Nazis were bad. If they actually read Nazi tenets like Richard Spencer has, they’ like them. Anyone who thinks modern liberalism is like Nazism is a stupid fool. You can’t hate on the left for wanting diversity and then call us the Nazis’ heirs. I concede that modern conservatism differs from the Nazis a bit but the nativism which was a huge tenet of national socialism is something they share.

Oh drat, I was hoping for something definitive or at least somewhat surprising from the Stormy interview. Would have been a nice birthday present. Will have to settle for adding a few more bricks onto the load that Ryan and McConnell are juggling as they ram their agenda through before the cheeto-dust time-bomb implodes.

On a personal OT note, I was born on Palm Sunday. My birthday has not coincided with that movable feast again until this year — assuming it takes another 62 years to align again, I am taking this as a once-in-a-lifetime event. And I just remembered I forgot to go buy a lottery ticket.

Also:

Things came to a head after nra.tv aired a propaganda video he recorded for the group on the day of #MarchForOurLives.

Render’s explosive interview with the NRA included him attacking kids who grow up in an “everybody gets a trophy” society and opposing anti-bullying campaigns because, “your child needs to get punched in the face so he can learn to punch someone back.”

The host who interviewed Render also mocked “Malcom in the Middle’s David Hogg,” both attacking a survivor of a mass shooting and echoing conspiracy theorists who accused the Parkland survivors as being “crisis actors.”

From a conservative woman who marched in DC yesterday for gun reform:

“The narrative has resulted in most people thinking that generally speaking Conservative are aligned with the NRA,” Jill Hoffman said. “In my experience, most Conservatives are not aligned with the NRA. But the NRA speaks for all Conservatives, and that is just not what we need to represent. The NRA is not a good actor. They are deceptive. They are a 501.C4 organization, and they should have limitations on how much they could lobby for their tax status. They clearly have much more influence than a 501.C4 organization should have. And I think that Conservatives like myself believe that this is an issue where there is a lot more common ground than not. And we need to be the ones speaking up and neutralize the NRA’s influence.”

But it doesn’t matter. She’s Hillary Clinton. Therefore everything she does will be wrong, anyone who doesn’t shun her with a fucking silver cross is the real problem and must be excommunicated from the Dem party, because reasons.

We must bow to the wisdom and eternal relevance of the White Working Class to exclusion, and saying mean things about them is treason. Meanwhile, Trump and the GOP are literally attacking mass shooting victims and their supporters and treating them as massive ‘others’ that must be excluded forever because The Constitution and the sacred 2nd Amendment demand it.

I’m reading two books right now. The Count of Monte Cristo and my philosophy teacher’s memoir. Because we live in the DC burbs and his love of bringing social studies to life, he managed so many awesome field trips and internships. But tbh I’m enjoying most how he brought in other faculty members who were part of history to the class room. To all teachers out there on LGF, thank you, you make a difference in your students lives even if we’ll curse you for that tough assignment or rather be somewhere else sometimes. Thirteen years after high school, I appreciate all my teachers even the ones whose classes caused me many anxious nights.

Larry seems awfully concerned with a man who was President seventeen years ago.

Oh yeah he is one of the talk radio cranks. Also writes a column for the Boston Herald. He has in the past done some decent reporting, he made his bones reporting on Whitey Bulger, and corruption on Beacon Hill. Now he mostly just froths at the mouth about the latest outrageous outrage.

Howie doesn’t even have it listed first in his own HowieStore book list—actually, 6th out of 6. But good to know that the Howie Carr bobblehead is marked down from $49.00 to $29.99!

That would be a correct analysis.

It’s so pathetic how they can’t let HRC go no matter what.

I don’t think any of these revelations will hurt Trump more than the other accusations did. Trump supporters - Larry especially - kept saying “What about Bill Clinton?” and moved on. They’ll do it again here.

It would take a series of accusations against him on a Harvery Weinstein scale to move the needle any.

I don’t either but man I’m sick of how they want HRC to shut up but also can’t stop talking about her.

It’s like they just can’t let go of the fact the relationship didn’t work out. They aren’t missing her at all, since she’s been gone.

There are a series of allegations against him, including a woman who was thirteen at the time of her alleged contact.

Like Roy Moore, they don’t care. Conservative and religious moral authority is projection like everything else. All we can do is overwhelm them at the polls, because no flaw (Gingrich, Hastert, &c) is enough to give up the grasp on power which conservatives are so desperate to have.

That’s definitely one that would topple him, I think. Kind of like the dead hooker/live boy scenario, however that goes.

As I recall, the 13 year old girl suddenly withdrew a lawsuit against him. Weird. And I know this sounds like some of the wingnut accusations against Clinton (Kathleen Willey said she found her cat dead on her front porch soon after coming forward; she also said some scary looking dudes threatened her while she was jogging. A Bush appointing special prosecutor found her not to be credible), but Cohen has already been shown to have done things like that. So maybe.

If they tried to muzzle a 13 year old girl? That would be too much for Larry Elder. Maybe even Hannity.

Someone over at Wonkette posted that the interview with Ms. Daniels included a bit about Trump ordering pizza with smaller pizzas as toppings. Is that true? That would be far worse than all the people around here who claim pineapple is some kind of abomination.

Wasn’t enough to stop their support of Roy Moore. In for a penny, in for a pound. Considering Tenn. and Ky. have both rejected child marriage bills, I assume conservatives and Christians are fine with it.
