Fun take about a guy, Trump: who stylizes his hair to look like he has some, paints his skin to look like he has a ‘healthy’ tan, wears ties too long to make him look longer and leaner yet packs his substantial girth and huuuuge ass into frumpy suits to hide it all.
Also a Trump that tells everyone how successful he was in a book written by a ghost writer but claimed bankruptcy 4(?) times and is most known for a ‘reality’ show where he could pose as a success and powerful man capable of taking down ‘stars’ on their way down.

re: #39 Charles Johnson
Trump unilaterally changed the policy and that policy supersedes the prior policy. That was the start of Trump’s latest “infrastructure week” which turned out to mostly be about Trump building a gulag for infants, toddlers, and children of parents who were seeking asylum in the US - a legal method of gaining entry to the US.
Now, he’s intent on violating federal law and rules on holding these people indefinitely because they want to become American citizens.
It’s white supremacy all the way down in Trumpworld, and as we saw with who Trump had advising him - it’s all white rich guys and nary a woman or a minority to be seen anywhere advising him.
That’s on purpose. It’s intentional.
And it’s clear from his reactionary policy and intentions that Trump was, is, and forever will be, a white supremacist.
And it’s 404d. Only the best. 🙄🙄🙄

Unfu…
Nope. Totally fucking believable. Trump’s EO actually lies its ass off as to the justifications of why they’re doing what they’re doing and what the new policy does.
Anyone seeking asylum is afforded the protections provided by federal law. They are not violating the law, and claiming asylum is an absolute affirmative defense. As an offensive asylum, the person entering the US can present themselves to immigration officials demanding asylum. Trump decided to treat these people as criminals.
Not mandated or required under federal law. In fact federal law requires the opposite (particularly for offensive asylum). Congress didn’t create the current condition. Trump did.
Trump’s policy was to separate them to maximize the pain. We have detailed conversations and transcripts indicating as much. The inevitable legal cases against Trumpworld will show just the same.
Not that Trump or his admin cares about any of this. They only want to keep America white and Christian, and anything they can do to force minorities and foreigners to flee (or not come) is what they’re intent on doing.

re: #56 makeitstop
I had that happen when my CapitolOne card a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t have to file a report. They let one charge go through and stopped the rest before they got approved. And they reversed the one charge.
Chase does that kind of thing regularly. I have to call or text them but it’s a great safeguard.
It used to bother me that they’d put holds on a lot of stuff. Now they are really good at managing what they look at as potential fraud.
Bottom line: Trump is backing down in one way but digging in in another: he’s saying he’ll keep families together, but he wants to do that by being granted the legal right to detain children with no time limits.

Meanwhile, up in Portland, OR:
Following two days of raucous heckling and disruption from Portland demonstrators, a regional office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has temporarily shuttered, the agency announced Wednesday.
“ICE operations at this location have been temporarily halted due to security concerns,” a statement from an ICE spokesman said. “Normal operations will resume once security concerns have been addressed.”
Appointments at the facility have been canceled.
The announcement comes amid a growing protest calling itself Occupy ICE PDX. The impromptu demonstration began Sunday evening, following a vigil to protest hardline federal immigration policies that separate immigrant parents from their children.
It’s continued to grow ever since. On Monday, protesters began blocking vehicles attempting to enter and leave the facility, an unassuming structure in Southwest Portland that bears no outward signs it’s an ICE facility.
The Trump admin is also requiring Congress to give two weeks notice before going to visit a detention facility. Plus:
“To protect the privacy and vulnerability of children in its care, we cannot allow visitors to record or photograph anything within the facility property, nor are visitors allowed to interact with the children,” reads the email from Sara Morse, the deputy assistant secretary for legislation at HHS. “We appreciate your cooperation.”
That’s why I think Congress needs to pass a law requiring that any member be allowed into any government run facility.

This jackass got owned big time:
They weren’t upset that Trump tried to welcome Syrian Christians fleeing a genocide; they were upset that he did that at the same time he tried to keep out Syrian Muslims fleeing a genocide.
— Rany Jazayerli (@jazayerli) June 19, 2018
You’re stretching the term beyond its meaning. Syrian Muslims have faced a chamber of horrors between Assad & ISIS, but nobody was trying to make Syria a Muslim-free country.
— Dan McLaughlin (@baseballcrank) June 19, 2018
I don’t think you’re appreciating exactly what Assad has been doing. He has targeted Sunni Muslims almost exclusively. Half the population - which means more than half the Sunnis - have been displaced. A quarter have fled the country. As many as 5% are dead.
— Rany Jazayerli (@jazayerli) June 19, 2018
I think you’re splitting hairs to a silly degree: “it’s not FULL ethnic cleansing, only PARTIAL ethnic cleansing.” And it wasn’t opposition that left Christians out in the cold-it was an administration that, given the option, preferred to keep Christians out than let Muslims in.
— Rany Jazayerli (@jazayerli) June 19, 2018
And I am, obviously, not arguing in favor of keeping out the victims of a genocide. I’m noting that your misgivings over what happened are misdirected.

I think the police like reports filed as it helps them keep an eye on crime trends in areas, etc. If they see a bunch of reports come in like what happened to makeitstop they know they have a large problem and can look into who may be doing and how. It gives them a record of people to contact to see if there is a common method to how it happened.

re: #107 electrotek
I’d use the term democide to describe what Assad was doing - the end result is the same. Assad murdered hundreds of thousands and engaged in widespread ethnic cleansing of his political enemies.
The opposition to Trump policy was that he was preventing Assad’s victims from entering the US if they were Muslim. He didn’t want Muslims, but was okay with Christians from Syria. That’s de facto discrimination.
The fact is that both groups were being persecuted by Assad because they were political enemies. Both were being slaughtered and both should have been entitled to claim asylum. Trump didn’t want the Muslims because he’s xenophobic and Islamophobic. He usually doesn’t want anyone who isn’t lily white, but made an exception because other GOPers wanted Christians saved from Assad.
The GOP isn’t pro life. They never have been. This is just more proof.

Ask your bank whether those Minnesota charges were in person or byy phone
Yes I know beauty salon…sometimes they do it as a test to see if they can get the card to go through, then comes the big charge
I’ll try to find that out.
No matter, though. Card’s been frozen, so they’re not getting any more out of me. Not on that card, anyway.

re: #56 makeitstop
In other news, I got a call from my bank this morning asking about a flagged debit card payment - at a beauty salon somewhere in Minnesota. Headed off to my branch, where they canceled my card and are sending me a new one tomorrow.
The fraud division assured me that they’re not going to charge me for the purchases (4 in Minnesota, and one, strangely, in Brooklyn). But tomorrow I have to visit my local police precinct and file a police report for the bank.
The bank did an admirable job, and the asshole using my debit number in Minnesota sucks. Can’t wait to visit the precinct tomorrow. ///
The same thing happened to me the other day: except that only I only noticed about $600 of dodgy charges when I went to pay my bill online. And I only just
(Like an hour ago) found that Capital One HAD sent me an email notifying me of the charges when they happened (note to self: check your email files more often) . At least they were good about getting me a new card in two days.

So the EO is basically a crock of shit with off-ramps for keeping families together. How does one determine if the child’s parent poses a risk to the child’s welfare if the Secretary has no history on the family dynamic?

Not immigration judges, US district court judges (those who have life time appointments and generally take no shit*). The Trump administration is pursuing felony changes, meaning folks are getting federal public defenders. That op-ed makes clear, the administration can’t answer basic questions about where kids are. That such a policy could exist is not only a tragedy but should be the first article in articles of impeachment for incompetence/unfit for office.
