Slow roll of chaos:

Brexit blamed by Kent fruit farmers for seasonal workers recruitment crisis

A shortage of seasonal workers to help Kent’s fruit farmers means that produce could end up rotting in fields rather than in punnetts in shops, the government has been warned.

Cultural Marxism = A right wing fantasy made up from the two words considered most scary on Faux News with no understanding of what either means.

Political Correctness or “PC” = at it’s core, a belief that one should live by the golden rule: treat everyone else the way you’d like to be treated. This terrifies the far right because they have spent so long treating everyone else like **** that they are certain that they will in turn be treated like ****.

I also don’t get the ‘Marxism’ in the term. The proletariat control the means of production of culture? From each culture according to its abilities, to each culture according to its needs?

Oh look, it’s the “death of expertise” dude spouting off on things he doesn’t know much about based on his experience strolling through airports. I’m going to guess that the factor he picked on (fakers) is probably way down on a list that contains.
1. High levels of obesity/Type 2 diabetes in the US (which is itself a complicated issue that goes beyond lazy overeaters are fat)
2. Lack of access to healthcare - meaning that things go untreated and as a result cause disability where the might not otherwise
3. High vs low density - AKA more people in Europe walk more which helps maintain mobility as well as decreasing item 1 above
4. Accessibility issues (yes even in Western Europe) relative to the US.

Ah, I see, borrowed from Nazis. That makes sense.

All the talking like Nazis and acting like Nazis, but getting upset when people call them Nazis reminds me of the line from the MST3K movie: “I’m just gonna ram my ovipositor down your throat and lay my eggs in your chest, but I’m not an alien!”

You assume people understand that. They don’t. They couldn’t define socialism, Marxism or communism, not could they explain why they think they’re bad.

They are trigger words and nothing more. They are like Pavlov’s slobbering dog, conditioned to hate words that have absolutely no meaning to them.

Brought up what is happening in Yemen not long back, but there is simply no traction in the minds of Americans for these type of issues.

What is happening is that the rebel groups who want to align with Iran are a threat to the Saudis so the KSA and their like-minded fellows on the Arabian land mass, along with quiet support from the US and other countries, decided to wipe out said Iran-sympathetic groups.

There is no shortage of atrocities to spread around, but this is one of those cases where it seems we (the US) are quite happy to let a disaster unroll.

In war, the first casualty is the truth:

Saudi-led coalition rejects UN report on Yemen

The Saudi-led coalition again rejected a report by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, claiming it included false data and information about children who lost their lives in the Yemen conflict.

Col. Turki Al-Maliki, the coalition’s spokesman, said the annual report on Children and Armed Conflict mentioned several figures and associated them to the coalition, without any basis or documentation.

We get high 90s, even over 100 a couple times a year. Generally not for more than 3 days in a row. But even when it’s >100, it cools off at night. Back East, if it’s 99 degrees during the day, the low will be in the 80s or high 70s.

Stunning video footage shows for the first time the junior soccer team that got lost in a network of caves in Thailand nine days ago and were just found.
The 5-minute video posted on Facebook on Monday by the country’s equivalent of the US Navy SEALs shows the scrawny boys — ages 11 to 16 — in red and blue soccer jerseys sitting on a rocky slope in a dark cave.

Facebook halted a Procter & Gamble advertisement in support of gay rights, deeming it inadequately labeled as “political.”

The social network stopped running the ad because it lacked a “paid for by” tag in violation of new rules aimed at misleading political ads, according to an Ad Age article.

P&G confirmed there was a disruption to their ad, which has yet to be reinstated.

“It was a post in celebration of PRIDE and was not a political ad,” P&G spokeswoman Tressie Rose said. “We are disappointed it was flagged as such and we’re working with Facebook to understand how to navigate their new policy.”

The disruption comes as P&G has edged some of its advertising to include social issues intended to win a deeper connection with consumers.

I got the bill from the emergency room about my foot. I paid $130 the night I went, and have been paying $100 here and there for the orthopedist to do an exam and a wrap. The emergency room bill comes out to the following:

Having a physical tell me I need an x-ray, and that after it’s broke I need a splint: 713.42
Having a splint put on: 398.34

Minus a contractual adjustment of 166.76, I owe $945.

My company has switched to high-deductable plans, so this break is going to cost me around $2500.

For years, my wife wanted me to build her a pergola. I told her that I don’t feel competent to build a structure that big and heavy by myself in a place that has earthquakes and where the clay soil alternates between squishy, and concrete-like. I said she should hire a professional.

She doesn’t believe me, claiming that because I can build bows out of wood, I should be able to build a pergola.

So we still don’t have a pergola, and it’s apparently my fault.

Eric Garretti was on the Daily Show recently; one of the questions was about why they’re so insistent that sanctuary cities (and LAPD not wanting to assist ICE) was a boon to public safety.

He told a nice story about an LAPD officer shot in the line of duty, after a traffic stop in an immigrant-heavy neighborhood… and it was a bunch of undocumented who took a picture of the shooter and his car, noted his license number, noted which direction he drove off and where he turned, approached other officers to give them the info, so the department was able to find the guy really quickly. And it was undocumented witnesses who ID’d him on the street at the arrest, and again in a line-up.

But it’s ICE who will keep those undocumented from showing up to the trial to testify.
