Everyone needs a right hand man. Everyone from Washington on down had someone who helped them manage the influx of information and people to the Oval Office. It’s their job to vet information, need, risk, and importance, and manage the President’s time.
These fucknuts are basically saying that Trump doesn’t need to manage his time efficiently or effectively. They’re down with the chaos because that’s what they want. They don’t want government to function properly. They’re out to sabotage it, and Trump’s been the boon to this view among the right wing extremists. They want to watch it all burn.
Concurrently, it’s a position that Russia loves because a hobbled President is one less thing for them to worry about as Trump’s attention span of a gnat can’t and won’t comprehend, let alone respond to Russian (or Chinese, or any other country) aggression.

The inauguration was one long con.
1) Saudi funded lobbyist bought block of 500 rooms at Trump’s hotel.
2) From months ago, Mueller was already zeroing in on the inauguration as a slush fund of malfeasance and financial chicanery as Russians and others were throwing money around.
2a) Mueller was also looking at Russian billionaires who were invited to Trump inauguration.
3) Trump inauguration paid $26 million to Melania’s top adviser.
4) Trump inauguration dragged its feet releasing financial details for nearly a year after the inauguration. They made no effort to identify where/how the money was spent.

That’s why/how Washington developed such trust in Hamilton’s knowledge and judgment and unconventional suggestions, and backed him in every single cabinet battle.

2012 Video Emerges Showing Trump’s Understanding of John Edwards Case
Old interview footage has emerged that strongly suggests Donald Trump knew that hush money payouts are illegal. The interview comes from an April 27, 2012 Fox News show hosted by Greta Van Susteren, in which the two spoke about a similar case surrounding former Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards.
The former Vice Presidential candidate from 2004 campaign went through a similar ordeal in 2011 when he was indicted by a North Carolina grand jury on six felony charges after paying money to Rielle Hunter, a New York-based filmmaker with whom Edwards had an extramarital affair and fathered a child out of wedlock. Edwards was eventually found not guilty on one charge, and a mistrial was declared on the other charges.

Federal authorities out of Washington DC, working in coordination with Robert Mueller’s team, have in recent days sought to arrange an interview with the author of a letter sent to Congress last month that claimed that ex-Trump adviser George Papadopoulos coordinated with Russians in the weeks following the 2016 election. I’m not sure they’d have to recuse themselves. Neither were members of the Trump administration (which is why Kagan had to recuse herself a couple of times during her first couple of terms). They don’t have a personal stake in the outcome, either.

I understand, but do all state democratic parties actually have people register as party members other than identifying themselves as such when they register to vote? I don’t even know that, for example the Kentucky Democratic Party even keeps such a list.

You know there’s exactly one person we’re talking about, right? And if you’re running for president, and want to be even considered by the party, you have to have served in some capacity at a high enough level to have registered with the party or at least declared yourself as such.
Why ACTING? It’s a political appointment that doesn’t require Senate confirmation.

Well of course I understand its aimed at Bernie, but you can’t have a rule that “Bernie can’t run unless he registers as a Democrat.” It has to be a rule that can by uniformly applied to everyone nationally.

So Trump has tapped Mick Mulvaney for Chief of Staff. My only question: Does Mick know?
Who else remembers that time Mick Mulvaney tried to shut down an ethics inquiry? He’s a consistent pick for a job held by John Kelly, who lied about when he learned about Rob Porter, and Reince Priebus, who said the ethics director “ought to be careful.” https://t.co/Q89NDwGbCv

There has GOT to be an overhaul of campaign finance laws. PACs are nothing but a bank account that runs off other people’s money.
Didn’t the Citizen’s United decision make it impossible to have any effective campaign finance rules? It would require a Constitutional amendment or a new SC to override that decision.

Officer: Sir, we’ve just hit an iceberg!
Trump: That’s fake news. I haven’t seen any icebergs. It’s not even that cold out here.
O: But sir, there’s ice everywhere, the ship just got hit! I’ll send an engineer down immediately to check it out!
T: That would be a colossal waste of time. Let me tell you about engineers. They like to talk but they don’t do much good. I’m much smarter than them and I’m telling you there is nothing to worry about. This ship is well built, it’s going to last.
Engineer: We’ve got flooding throughout the lower decks. We need to start evacuating the ship!
T: I’m not fooled by your Liberal bias. Many people say taking on extra water can actually be beneficial for a big ship like this because it helps it float better.
Officer and Engineer: WTF?
O: Captain, we need to get the people into the Lifeboats immediately!
T: Can’t you see I have everything under control? There was no iceberg, the ship is going to be fine. We’ll build a wall to keep the water out and make Britain pay for it!
Officer: That’s…really not an option at this point.
Ivanka: Daddy, our room is flooding, I think we better pack up and go.
T: Okay, if my daughter says it’s bad, then it’s bad. Prepare the lifeboats. Rich white guys first.
Officer: Not a problem, sir, I- wait, what?
T: What?
Officer: Did you say rich white men first?
T: Yes, of course.
Officer: Don’t you think it should be women and children?
T: No! What good are they to me? They won’t donate to my next campaign. Get the rich white guys in first and then if there’s room for them, grab the women and children.
Officer: Okay, what about the non-white people?
T: Leave them on the ship.
O: But sir, the ship is going to sink, they’ll all drown!
T: And?
O: We can’t just leave them!
T: Why not? They don’t matter. Most of ‘em are probably on this boat illegally anyway.”
O: Seriously?
T: (blank stare)
O: Fine, whatever. We need to start loading the lifeboats. You’ll stay on the ship like the captain is supposed to, right Mr. Trump? …. Mr. Trump??
(Officer looks over the deck railing to see Trump and family floating away in a lifeboat)
T:(looking back at officer) You got this! Make the North Atlantic GREAT AGAIN!!

I may be wrong about this*, but I seem to recall at the time Citizens United was decided, CJ Roberts (who, I think, wrote the decision) left some sort of “out” in the ruling that would allow for effective campaign-finance regulations, provided that they conformed to whatever restrictions the CU decision entailed.
Of course, this means that said reforms would have to get by Republicans in Congress, so we know how far that got….

I think the only way Pence pardons him is if Trump resigns early enough for Pence to actually run in 2020. I also don’t think Trump would ever trust Pence enough to do that and doubt that Pence could win a primary under such circumstances. It’s just really hard to see any scenario where Trump is forced to resign without going into full scorched earth mode, lashing out and blaming everyone around him as insufficiently loyal. This might be the main reason now that the GOP continues to back him, they’re terrified that he might take them all down with him in revenge by directing his base to form a third party.

Researchers Discover Cure For Man Bun
In what’s being called a miraculous breakthrough, researchers at the University of Washington announced Monday a promising new treatment for the unfortunate male hairstyle known as a “man bun.”
The cure is reportedly comprised an inexpensive operation using a pair of shears, coupled with a psychiatric follow-up administered by a medical professional designed to help the victim come to the conclusion that they need to make better decisions about their life.

Saudi Arabia Declares War on America’s Muslim Congresswomen
Closing paragraph:
It should be little surprise that America’s authoritarian allies have responded with panic and fear to voices like Tlaib and Omar. These regimes have always benefited from the false choice they present to policymakers in the West—in Muslim countries, they say, extremists are the only alternative to dictators. That argument is eloquently undermined by American politicians who share those regimes’ religion, but not their cynicism about democracy.
The more I read about this region, the more I feel the above can’t be emphasized enough: very powerful people have a stake in a flattened, oversimplified discussion of religion and politics in the Middle East…first and foremost the monarchs and nigh-unto-monarchs that rule the region. A great deal of what’s done supposedly in the name of orthodoxy has to do with money and regional influence. Hence the occasional bloom of farther-right politics manifesting as jihadists being allowed, and the policy objectives of those groups sometimes being incorporated into the normal political discourse…but never any tolerance for movements to open society of enfranchise people.
nice story:

Nebraska Wireman Wraps Up an 89-Year Career
Every year, the IBEW hands out hundreds — yes, hundreds — of 70-year pins to men and women marking seven decades as members of the Brotherhood.
But how many arrive before the recipient retires?
There is now at least one.
After 89 years doing electrical work — the first couple OSHA would have had a word or two about if it existed at the time — Lincoln, Neb., Local 265 member Norm “Pinky” Stentz is out of work.
“I’m an old buzzard,” he said.
Stentz, 95, is a second-generation member of Local 265. His father, Howard, was president of the local 60-odd years ago. He got into the business in 1929, when Stentz was only 6 years old, and times being what they were, it wasn’t long until he was helping his father out on jobs.

re: #200 Charles Johnson
This wasn’t a respected judge. It was a district court judge whose extremist position is unsupported by precedent - namely the US Supreme Court, which did find that you could sever the individual mandate from other provisions. It also ignores statutory construction that would hold that if one provision was held invalid, that it would not invalidate all of the provisions.
It once again highlights that judicial activists on the right are a danger to all Americans - as if this position was sustained, nearly 50 million people would lose coverage as it would invalidate all of the ACA, not just the individual mandate. It would invalidate Medicaid Expansion, preexisting conditions, etc. All of it.
Trump gloating shows he’s more than willing to destroy health coverage for all Americans to claim victory over Obama. And yeah, it’s all Americans, because everyone knows someone with a preexisting condition, and the GOP wont even try to save that provision. They couldn’t do that when they were trying for the Obamacare repeal efforts endlessly, and they’re not about to start now.

Saw this from last month about the response of Trump voters in California who lost their houses:
The fire zone in Northern California is to some extent Trump country. He beat Hillary Clinton by 4 percentage points in Butte County in 2016. That enthusiasm was on display as dozens of people cheered and waved flags as his motorcade went by.
[…]
Missere-Crowder, 61, and her husband had fled their home in Magalia, a community near Paradise that also was devastated, and now planned to go to a shelter in Yuba City, about an hour’s drive from the Walmart.
She said she was angry about Trump’s tweet last week blaming forest mismanagement for the Nov. 8 fire, a sentiment he evoked in his visit and has stirred resentment among survivors.
“Like we’ve done it on purpose. It’s like a slap in the face,” Missere-Crowder said.
Still, she said that if she met him, she would say, “Think about what you’re saying, because it takes away from all the good stuff you’re doing.”
Where “good stuff” means “slapping other people in the face”.
“I never thought they would slap me in the face” sobs woman who voted for the “Slap People in the Face” Party.
