Biden Town Hall Trounces Trump Town Hall in Nielsen Ratings

Politics • Views: 26,245

TV show ratings are no way to determine an election, and I wouldn’t even pay attention to this in normal times, but these are not normal times and you just know this failure is eating at Trump’s little weasel brain.

Because as it turns out, Joe Biden’s town hall event outdrew Trump’s by almost a million viewers, even though Trump’s event was carried on three networks compared to one for Biden.

UPDATE at 10/16/20 5:24:45 pm by Charles Johnson

Here are some updated numbers; Biden’s viewership was even larger than first reported.

And yes, I’m quite certain most of them were.

What the hell even is his strategy here? Even in his drug-addled mind wreckage? Does he think he can bully her into a yes vote? Why does he think he needs to? As long as it’s just Collins and Murkowski defecting, Barrett still gets confirmed.

This makes no sense in any sort of normal political calculus… but then, why would that apply these days?

Not if Mike Lee, Thom Tillis and Ron Johnson get sick. What’s the usual timeframe from a positive test to showing symptoms?

Trump’s only strategy right now, if you can call it that, is to let his narcissistic ego run wild. He has a mystical belief in his own superiority and he really thinks he’s going to win this way.

Because it’s likely Trump isn’t thinking along the lines of “political calculus” (another subject he failed - and the guy he paid to take the test for him probably failed, too); there’s little downside for him to dump on Sen. Collins - and the red-hat goobers probably think it makes him look “tough”. At this point his “campaign” seems to have devolved into a purely ego-driven personality-cult, blind and deaf to its own general unpopularity, and only left with shoring up the slavering “base” as the means of avoiding a 1936/1964/1984-style blowout.
Oh, and trying to cheat the system.

So the NY Times is again protecting Trump by denying that he owes money to Russia. A Trumpster friend has already posted a FB comment based on that article. Of course, the author is not involved with the current Times investigation of Trump’s taxes, though he does have a serious background on financial investigations. The author could have indicated that this is an unresolved issue instead of putting his thumb on the scale.

corey gardner is on his own and, well wow…

“Faced with a consistent stream of polls showing Sen. Cory Gardner headed for a loss next month, national Republican groups are spending far less in Colorado than in other battleground states this fall,” the Denver Post reports.

Said GOP pollster David Flaherty: “There is no reason for either side to put another dime into this state. It’s over.”

He also sees “historic” losses for Republicans nationally: “It is undeniable. The train wreck and implosion of the president will bring a historic number of other Republican candidates down, and if you don’t believe that then you have your head in the sand.”

Depends what metric you choose to use. By the RCP average it has tightened and lot’s of people go by that because it is easy to understand. We have X number of polls, average them together and there you go. Whereas 538 is likely more accurate and weights polls based on quality and past performance and does all sorts of analytics it isn’t as easy for people to get as a straight up average of polls.

Sounds overly optimistic to me: though I agree with her basic theory: a big Democratic turnout and vote-tide in early/absentee balloting is going to need a HUGE GOP advantage in in-person Election Day voting to overcome.
And that seems quite the long shot…

Isn’t much early voting in-person voting? In-person on election day is going to be much less common over time, especially among those workers who have limited flexibility in their schedules and would prefer going early instead of discovering that election day doesn’t work for them. Indeed for many of us, we might want to get out as soon as feasible to avoid unanticipated problems.

Anyone looking for some late House impact up this way might consider a few decent prospects for R-to-D flips in my upstate NY neighborhood.

Nate McMurray has a very good chance (with strong turnout and $ support to buy ad time on Buffalo and Rochester TV) to flip the seat that used to belong to convicted felon Chris Collins. He came oh-so-close in the low-turnout special election for the seat. It wouldn’t take much to make it happen in the general.

Dana Balter is on TV already in Syracuse and Rochester in her race to unseat John Katko. This central NY district has a history of being swingy, and again, strong voter turnout in a Presidential year could flip it. She needs a little help for an especially strong showing because there’s a third-party Working Families candidate who screwed up his paperwork and doesn’t want to be on the ballot after all, so she needs to overcome any left-leaning votes that go to the WFP line instead.

A longer shot is Tracy Mitrano in the 23rd, running along the state’s southern border. She’s running against veteran R Tom Reed, who’s kind of odious in a Ben Sasse way, since he preaches moderation and morals and then votes straight ticket every time. Again, high D turnout in Ithaca and Corning just might move the needle on this one.

The Trump border closure with Canada is economic death in places like Massena and Ogdensburg that live or die on cross-border commerce. She’s tied herself hard to the Trump anchor. I’d love to see her get pulled to the bottom with him. I haven’t seen any recent polling but I feel good about our chances up there.

ETA: 538 shows only one poll, a partisan R poll just out that shows Stefanik up on Tedra Cobb 50-40. I don’t put a ton of weight on that, obviously.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but if they can get 1.8 trillion from the republicans now, they should do it. Of course it isn’t even clear the Rs will agree to that.

Then once they win the presidency, senate and house they can pass whatever supplemental funding they need to, but 3 months is a long time to wait when you are about to be evicted, especially when you have already been waiting for 3 months.

Former WH COS John Kelly has told friends, about Trump: “The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it’s more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life.”

What John Kelly needs to realize is that Trump is the Spiritual Leader and True Voice of the Pig-People. There is no distinction to be made between Republicans and Trumpists.

Nothing in Trump’s corrupternment is fundamentally different than the corrupternment of the W Bush administration. The Bushies just had better cover stories and a much better front man.

Understand this about those who think “Mr. Rogers” is a slur: they are desiring a strong-man, ultimate male dominance hero.

This is why Trump in his ignorant arrogance appeals to them - they want to believe in the ultimate male as being ultimate dominant.

The lack of humanity that is characteristic of Trump, as John Kelly has observed of Trump, is the very thing that draws Trumpers to Trump.

I remember in 2018 (I was canvassing in the Central Valley) some of the other groups came back with ballots filled out by the people they’d canvassed, and there were some complicated rules to it, so I’m not surprised that they turn out to have been skirting the law rather than flouting it. Nevertheless, the California repugs are assumed to be acting in bad faith until proven otherwise.

How is that helping you get back to work safely?” Call them directly on their shit. Give out their damned office phone numbers so we can call them and demand better. No more nice guy bullshit.

I just want him to say it out loud. A vast number of Americans, even though they’re “insured”, would be financially nullified by such a thing.

Yeah, I was in ER overnight and that was a $5k hit or so after insurance. Realistically Christie paid whatever the max out of pocket expense per year is for his plan, and I imagine many insurance plans don’t have this essential feature.

One change for the better if Democrats take the Senate is to put DiFi out to pasture in terms of committee assignments. We can’t have a Vichy Democrat as the Judiciary Chair.

What will be irritating will be the GOP and the media getting all concerned about the budget deficit again, when they couldn’t have cared less as they voted massive tax cuts for corporations and billionaires.

Max out of pocket expenses are great if you’re trying to fight off hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenses and trying not to lose your house, and you have cash to spare.

They’re not great if you don’t have the cash to spare, or worse, one or more of the providers is out-of-network, and even in non-emergency situations, they refuse to tell you whether any of the contractors is out-of-network.

re: #165 EPR-radar

Personal sob story incoming, you have been warned:

My lower wisdom teeth never gave me any trouble until they did, and I found myself in my 40s needing to get them yanked. They weren’t sideways or infected or decayed or anything unusual, but they were causing extremely painful gum problems in their vicinity, so I was persuaded by my regular dentist that they should come out.

Long story short, my employer-provided dental insurance claimed in print that 80% of the cost of the procedure would be covered. Lo and behold, when the bill came due, suddenly they were only paying 20%. If I wanted to know why, I was instructed to call 1-800-GO-FUCK-YOURSELF which went directly to voicemail. I left several requests for a callback that of course never happened. I kept trying for about 2 months before giving up. I am fortunate that I was able to grudgingly piss away that amount of money. I am lucky that this was not 6-figure brain surgery or something along that line.

Dental and mental health insurance should have never been allowed to be separated from health insurance. It’s such bullshit that we’ve been conditioned to think it’s supposed to be this expensive, when no other country has procedures or drugs this expensive.

I would like him to divulge how much it costs to spend a week in an ICU, and how he managed to pay for it.

When my mom had her stroke, more than 30 years ago, it was $2000/day (plus the doctors got paid an hourly rate). And they didn’t have anywhere near the machinery available today. I’m sure it’s considerably more now.

Jones is actually a democrat. He’s been in the news for having a bigger security detail than any other member of the legislature costing taxpayers 250K a year. He was told to cut back on the size of the detail but didn’t get in trouble. He also had a huge lawsuit for discrimination that dragged on for years and cost Dekalb county a fortune. He’s a shitty Democrat, let the GOP have him.

Fondly do we hope—fervently do we pray—that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-men’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn by the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether.”

This Instagram has got me thinking snow.

Instagram

My fresh set of @sidecuttuning ski tools arrived! I’ve been very impressed with the precision, design, material and ergonomics of the file guides, sidewall and top sheet remover plus quality files, stones and brushes. Every item they have is World Cup level at a reasonable price. This kit with a little time spent on the wax bench will have my kid’s, my own skis and your’s ripping as they were built to perform!
If you tune your own skis or do basic maintenance I’d highly recommend #sidecuttuning #skitools
Once you prep or have your skis prepped by a professional at a ski shop, a quick touch up daily or every few times on snow with the right tools and knowledge goes a long way. Sidecut has all the educational videos on YouTube for instruction.

I’ve tuned my skis all the way up to my World Cup career and spent time hanging in the wax room with my factory ski techs. Now I tune my own skis almost daily and my kid’s @atomicski race skis every time they are on snow.
Taking it to the next level, I’ll be hosting free 1hr workshops showing how to use these tools and offering a discount on product from Sidecut and Wend Wax. Wend Wax is trusted by me and used by @usskiteam Alpine World Cup racers like @tommyford @rc.s @riverradamus and more.

Did you know???
Tommy Ford took his first @fisalpine using WEND at 2019 @bcworldcup GS .

The First Workshop will be this Saturday Oct 17th 4pm PDT in Truckee for a few locals and on Zoom for anyone else. This coincides as the @fisalpine tour kicks off the women’s and men’s GS in @soelden.official this weekend!
For those who want to join this Saturday 4pm PDT on Zoom. Link is in my IG profile.

More dates and locations TBD, will be posted on my IG

You’re right. This is the difference from 2016. BUTTER EMAILS was a resounding concern from every media outlet, amplifying the residual anti-Clinton sentiment and creating enough doubt for Trump to slip by in a minority victory. Biden has no such pre-existing sentiment against him, and Trump’s October Surprise is gaining no purchase in the mainstream media. Nobody cares except for people who were already kissing Trump’s ass.
