Fuck Rafael, Needy, and all Republicans.

My friend on FB is ever so pissed about how the Libs are talking about Rushbo.

One of the comments on her post was: ” I want to live in the world that Rush talked about. My mother got to live in that world. That’s why I voted for Trump.”

The rest of the comments were mostly about how hateful Libs are.

Their alternate reality is something to behold.

That world never existed. It’s every bit as fictional as Vulcan or Coruscant. If you could ever find a way to get back there, you’d want to leave as quickly as you arrived.

re: #195 EPR-radar

Destabilizing the US by fostering Republican treason basically costs Russia nothing. So I can’t see any reason why they would be second guessing themselves just because Jan 6 was a (deadly) clown show.

That said, I’m sure Russia is stirring up bottom feeders all across the US political spectrum. It just looks like selective agitprop of right wingers because US bottom feeders are predominantly wingnuts.

Yes and no. The financial cost is trivial, and the political cost non-existent (though potentially high). There are other resources involved though that may be in more limited supply, especially skilled operators and managers who can keep the fires smoldering. For instance, the Internet Research Agency pays its social media operatives an exorbitant wage by Russian standards, simply because there are relatively few people available with the necessary English proficiency and other skills.
It might make sense to shift some of these resources to areas that have produced good results, like local Republican parties and that old standby, subversive media.

re: #198 No Malarkey!

Wouldn’t be surprised if they have Greenwald on the payroll.

I’m pretty sure he is an asset but he is also wealthy in his own right, and I’m not quite sure he is worth the enormous amount it would take to buy him off. In that case, kompromat is more likely.
This would also work with yokel Republicans and pulpit pimps, though the latter are some of the easiest people in the world to buy off and it might be better to allot kompromat resources to other areas where cash payments would either be ineffective or would have to be too large.

On the way.
I spent a pretty penny trying to undo Republican malfeasance during the election campaign. There was some gratifying success but the work has clearly not stopped. At least it’s deductible this time. I suggested to my accountant that I should form my own Holy Church of Neo-Marxist Regulatory Expansion so I could push a political agenda tax-free.

No offense, but your friend is a racist and a bad person. I don’t say this to shame you, but as white folks, we can’t just accept our racist friends and family. That’s how white supremacy survives.

Ted really stepped in it

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was ‘FREEZING,’ as Ms. Cruz put it — and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed “many times,” noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts

I frankly find it a little distasteful to mock Limbaugh’s death, but I also think it is wholly justified and even necessary.
Decent people need to show his degenerate followers some pushback for their hero’s constant and unspeakably disgusting attacks on vulnerable people, such as 12 year old Chelsea Clinton and the deceased AIDS patients whose names he read on the air and mocked.

The reason the religious right supported Trump was to overturn abortion.

Some subset of them may have had other reasons (guns, Mexicans, etc…)

But the unifying theme across all religious conservative movements in the US is to end abortions.

And this is why: once it is accepted that we are animals descended from other animals, the god-game is up. Oh, you can still have “librul” Christianity with all its do-good stuff, but the idea that each person is specifically “knitted together in the womb” from the instance of fertilization by an all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful God with a purpose and plan for their life… all that latter stuff is gone.

And this is the problem.

And this describes American politics today, why it is the way it is.

Take away the abortion issue, and American politics is left with fights over money and regional resources and racism.

#TedFled is trending

Texas is facing one of its worst crises since the Alamo, which happened 185-years ago, coincidentally during a late winter freeze in San Antonio. But this time it’s not Mexican Generalissimo Sant Anna causing the death and destruction. Rather, it’s an unprecedented failure of governance by the state GOP.

Legendary American Davey Crocket fought to the death against Mexico at the Alamo. This week, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took a decidedly different approach and fled the crisis to Mexico, presumably for their ample heat and hot water.

Ironically, the fallout from this failure should be similar to that of the Alamo, which led to the Republic of Texas joining the United States in the first place. Perhaps, just maybe they’ll join the United States’ electric grid for the first time, and prevent these sorts of manmade disasters in the future.

Texans could even find themselves more open to elect Democrats to replace their Republican trifecta in state government because it’ll be the only way to get adults to step in and regulate its basic utilities and critical infrastructure.

I think it will mostly be forgotten, save some Democrats who hope to make a bit of hay out of it.

In a week it’s going to be warm in Texas.

The 2022 and 2024 elections will be about abortion and the Supreme Court. Trump will try to insert himself. If he does, it may be about him too… but frankly at his age and health I can see him taking the dirt nap any time.

If a crisis comes out of nowhere it could dominate the election… but who can forsee those?

Covid isn’t going anywhere. “100-year” weather events every year aren’t going anywhere. Trials for insurrection aren’t going anywhere. White supremacy isn’t going anywhere. What about the agricultural collapse (drought brought on by climate change) of summer 2021, the new pandemic, and the mass-casualty white-terrorist attack of spring 2022?

Fact is, we have no idea what the 2022 elections will be about, and all we can do is work to pile up successes and highlight the failings of the other side.

Wait! you say that’s too much like Dallas?

Well how about kicking it up a notch and doing Dallas on steroids?

Hello? Hello?

They made the ultimate horror film.

They were also very persistent - they sent a total of 15 Venera probes to Venus. 7 was the first one to land, but it kinda crashed when the parachute melted early, and the data they got was garbled as a result of it falling over when it hit. They over-engineered their probes for the surface of Venus, and that’s saying something, designing them to operate at over 1,000 degrees F and 100 atmospheres of pressure.

The worst part of the poodle story is that no matter what the he did the dog was glad to see him when he got back. Also poodles like the cool. My ex and I used to take her poodle up to

In the NYT story about Heidi’s texts, one other item is that a parent whose kids go to the same private school that Rafael’s daughters attend shared with the Times a notice to parents about restrictions on out-of-state travel: 2 weeks quarantine or 3-5 day wait after a CV test before they can return to classes.

So, in essence, what he’s saying is his daughters and their friends declared they wanted to skip school for 2+ weeks to go to Cancun, and he not only agreed with this plan but he paid for their trip.

Americans have exactly the attention span of their media narrative. A story has as much legs, and carries as much consequence, as the narrative has in the national media. Millions of Americans, even those who aren’t complete wingnuts, believe that ‘something’ was shady about the 2020 election, that Joe Biden is at least a little demented, and that Benghazi was a huge scandal and a permanent stain on Hillary Clinton. The media narrative in the US is all-powerful. If the largest networks and papers want to make something a permanent scandal, it will be. Those things, however, don’t include Republican malfeasance, or Republican rebellion.

Yes, the Guv appoints unelected members of Boards and Commissions, some quite important.

He has the power of the veto which will kill a bill for two years (which is how often little towns across the State send their idiots to Austin).

And he has the bully pulpit, which is no mean thing, here.

The real power lies in the Light Guv, who controls and sets the Legislative agenda.

In voter restrictions, state senator Mike Greone (Dick, district 42 North Platte) introduced a bill to cut early voting and mail ballots from thirty-five days to twenty. He was the only state senator to speak positively of the bill.

Rolling blackouts will continue in Nebraska for at least two more days. Unlike Texas, ours are not caused by equipment freezing but lack of capacity. Nebraska is also sharing power with Louisiana to help relieve their issues with arctic cold in that state.

Maxwell man found dead; temperature in his home was 14 below zero (Omaha World-Herald)

MAXWELL, Neb. — The body of a 65-year-old Maxwell man was discovered in his home Monday night during a welfare check at the residence.

The cause of death for Danny Effenbeck is currently unknown but not considered suspicious. Pathology tests are pending.

He was found by members of the Maxwell Volunteer Fire Department, who then contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

“They were doing random checks of people around Maxwell who live alone, and they knew (Effenbeck) had a history of not having utilities,” Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer said Wednesday.

Kramer said Effenbeck had relied on a propane heater for warmth for a number of years. The temperature was 14 below zero in the house when the body was discovered.

You don’t need the MSM to focus on a scandal to remind voters of issues; it only requires that Democrats be as ruthless as Republicans in their advertising. Democrats must bludgeon voters repeatedly with stories of Cruz’s negligence, as well as the negligence of other GOP candidates.

We know that we cannot rely on the press to assist us in taking down Republicans — though they will do so occasionally. Roy Moore was undone by bad press as were Larry Craig, Newt Gingrich, and Bob Livingston. And if we are every fortunate enough for someone to release the videos hanging over Lindsey’s head, he will be gone too.

The saying is “God helps those who help themselves”. We need a Democratic Frank Luntz to assist in this endeavor; but a sustained effort, especially one based on the truth, can bring others down.

I wasn’t aware they were ill; they both died while we were in Cheyenne. They have two small children. I presume the state will need to make a ruling on who can take permanent custody of them; they have no other family in town,

That is sad and very troubling — having a young couple both die from the disease does not seem like the typical progression of this illness. Could these deaths indicate a more lethal strain? It is unfortunate that the US is so behind in the genome-sequencing of COVID-19. Was the couple hospitalized?

Vaccines are coming into Nebraska now. On the way home listening to Wyoming Public Radio, they noted Nebraska today moved its priority age group down from sixty-five to fifty. That means my wife is now in the window.

Monday I go back to Cheyenne for my second shot.

Meanwhile in the world of Southern California Kaiser members…

They moved from just doing healthcare workers to now vaccinating health care workers and people aged 75+. They *might* be lowering that to 65… “soon”.

Is Cupp trying to follow Rubin’s lead?

Ms. Cupp is almost on the side of Democrats now. She doesn’t deny human-caused climate change, she is actually fiscally conservative, she is opposed to the GOP position on LGBT (and identifies as a log cabin Republican), she is an atheist (so she’s in a party who hates her for her religious beliefs, though she says she would never vote for an atheist politicians so she’s right there with a bunch of other Democrats).

We still can’t get hand sanitiser around here. (Since the start of the pandemic it has been unavailable, along with anything else useful like disinfectant wipes, Lysol, bleach, &c.)

Since grain alcohol has been shown as an effective disinfectant, a fellow here is selling squirt bottles of homemade corn liquor in our general store. At least I have something.

The warming trend continues here (-2°F, -20° windchill). It’s much warmer in Casper and Cheyenne.

Tomorrow we’re supposed to get all the way to 34°F. Shorts and t-shirt weather, though the river probably won’t thaw.

I saw an interesting clip from Rachel Maddow with a physician who noted that about 2/3 of the supply of monoclonal antibody therapy drugs which have been released under emergency use authorisation have not been used.

He notes people who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 who are mildly or not sick (yet) but are at high risk for severe disease should request it from their physicians.

He also noted a Health and Human Services Website where you can look up where it is available, and its uses in treatment.

have to admit, when I think of Chinese food, Chef Boyardee doesn’t naturally spring to mind… although I will note that I do acknowledge that cheese is not a big player in a lot of notable Chinese cuisine that I am aware of, but perhaps I need to expand my horizons more.

The drop-down menu (why do web designers use those) for “distance from your home” is in five mile increments to one hundred miles.

Therefore the tool is useless to someone who lives here (you can’t put in a figure higher than one hundred miles).

To reduce the amount of input validation needed, assuming they even thought of it.

Ignoring that is the cause of the majority of hacks and bugs.
