And you’d be… wrong.

It has something to do with when Charles was in Japan when he was, like, 20 years old. And that’s all I’ve been able to ascertain after about 16, 17 years of reading the blog.

I recall when I was a child small plastic hard green footballs. Hurts when you’re hit by one.

The final maps have been approved for Unicameral districts in Nebraska. My state senator Steve Erdman has an op-ed in every Panhandle paper arguing that Omaha shouldn’t get another senator at the expense of the Panhandle just because Omaha’s population grew and ours shrank. His claim is rural areas aren’t being represented properly.

Legislative district 47, which is the district that I represent, has now changed. Banner County and Kimball County have been moved into district 48, while Grant County and all of Box Butte County, including the City of Alliance have now been added into district 47. While this was not my choice, I look forward to meeting all those who have been moved into district 47.

My vote against the legislative district map should in no way be misconstrued as a vote against Grant County, Box Butte County or the City of Alliance. Instead, I voted against the legislative district map because it took a seat away from rural Nebraska and added one to Sarpy County, giving more representation to the greater Omaha metropolitan area and worsening the rural vs. urban divide which already exists in our state.

Gee, what will be the main story on the Sunday Gasbag shows tomorrow?

American missionaries and family members kidnapped in Haiti

A group of 17 missionaries and family members — primarily Americans — were kidnapped in Haiti on Saturday after returning from a site visit to an orphanage, according to an audio alert from their Christian aid group and a person familiar with the abduction, marking the latest in a wave of kidnappings to grip the spiraling Caribbean nation.

An audio described as a “prayer alert” from Ohio-based Christian Aid Ministries and obtained by The Washington Post stated that “men, women and children” associated with the group were being held by an armed gang. Those abducted included organization staff as well as family members, according to the recording.

“The mission field director and the American embassy are working to see what can be done,” the voice on the recording stated. It later added, “Pray that the gang members will come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.”

Fat chance, folks…Watch Republicans trash Joe tomorrow morning over this!

He ran unopposed in the last election. Considering how conservative my area is, that would be a real slog for anyone to the left of Attila the Hun to win here.

That said, if no one files to run, he wins by default. The filing fee is $120, and has to be paid personally by the candidate to run for the Unicameral.

I’m going to try. I am hampered by the fact I have no idea how to set up a campaign operation (that was never required for me on my three runs for the village board). I intend to contact Omaha state senator Megan Hunt’s office and the Nebraska Democratic Party to see if they can give me some tips or help.

Pulpit pimp panorama at Wonkette:

Look Younger And More Vibrant With Jesus Lady’s Plan To Cast Out Evil Spirits Of Death

Meet Katie Souza! She’s a kooky gal who supposedly led a life of crime and drugs and danger before becoming an evangelist. In a recent (okay, two weeks ago but I kept meaning to get to it!) episode of “Sid Roth’s ‘It’s Supernatural!,’ one of my favorite fundie talk shows on the YouTube because of how he reminds me of Kane from Poltergeist, Souza explained how one can stay young forever simply by banishing the Evil Spirit of Death” from their lives. Which means I have been spending way too much money on skincare products.

What is the Evil Spirit of Death? Let’s let Katie explain:

The spirit of death is active in the world at every moment, he’s putting death on people’s bodies, he’s causing rapid aging, he’s causing disease, disorder, he’s also killing off finances and marriages and relationships.

And Sid, honestly, I believe that when we transition to heaven as a born-again believer, that we just do that. We lay down at God’s appointed time and we just transition to our place in glory.

If the spirit of death is in the room at the time of our death, it usually means that we’re dying of a disease or something that was not the will of God.

Well that is just science.

Arghhhh

Per the article it’s one asshole lawyer behind most of these cases:

The lawsuits follow much of the same format; families have gotten a prescription for the drug, but hospitals refuse to use it on the patients, many of whom are on a ventilator, close to death, the news outlet noted.

Many of the lawsuits are filed by Ralph Lorigo, an attorney in Buffalo, N.Y. who says doctors “are not gods because they wear white jackets,” adding that he takes issue with the choice not to use ivermectin on patients, according to the AP.

Article also notes almost none of these cases have been successful.

State crime news:

The Nebraska State Patrol apprehended three juveniles involved in a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 mph early Saturday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was an 11-year-old boy. The two passengers were 14-year-old boys.

Shortly before 1 a.m., the Nebraska State Patrol received a report that a Jeep Gladiator — which had been stolen in Lincoln — was headed east toward Omaha on Interstate 80, according to a press release from the State Patrol.

A trooper spotted the vehicle on I-80 and attempted a traffic stop near the 42nd Street interchange. The vehicle stopped briefly, but fled as the trooper attempted to make contact with the driver. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

The Jeep continued east, reaching speeds of 110 mph, and a handgun was thrown from the window, according to the State Patrol.

The Jeep voluntarily stopped near the 20th Street overpass.

Troopers took the three occupants into custody. A second handgun was found inside the vehicle. State Patrol determined that both guns were stolen.

This is why the far right is so vehement about the county sheriff being the highest law enforcement they think has any authority; they’re quite convinced that State or Federal agents are just “outside agitators” with no right to interfere in the local doings.

You left out the Ahmed Aubery case; they only got caught because one of their friends put the whole thing on his iPhone, apparently not realizing anybody might object in any way once they saw it. (also, you’re downplaying the Murdaughs if you think they’re movie-of-the-week material — it would take a whole season of American Crime Story to adequately cover the 5 bodies so far and $10M missing in two separate embezzlement schemes.)

I doubt you can deliberately go after them, because at least a good fraction of the real swing voters are utterly incoherent. They’ll get mad at the President because their garbage isn’t picked up. Plus, they’ll just vote for the other guy to “shake things up”. Probably the only thing you can reasonably do is plaster the whole region with signs so your candidate’s name is the first thing that bubbles out of their minds when they vote.

Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald, eleven hours ago:

Police: Woman raped on Pennsylvania train as bystanders did nothing

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) — A woman was raped by a stranger on a commuter train in suburban Philadelphia in the presence of other riders who a police official said “should have done something.”

Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt of the Upper Darby Police Department said officers were called to the 69th Street terminal around 10 p.m. Wednesday after the assault on the westbound train on the Market-Frankford Line.

An employee of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority who was in the vicinity as the train went past called police to report that “something wasn’t right” with a woman aboard the train, Bernhardt said.

SEPTA police waiting at the next stop found the woman and arrested a man. The woman was taken to a hospital.

Lorigo filed his first of many ivermectin cases in January after the family of an 80-year-old woman in the hospital on a ventilator came to him for help. Another lawsuit came later that month, this time for a hospitalized 65-year-old woman. In both cases, the judges ruled to give the women ivermectin as their families wanted. If Manchin had to leave for whatever reason, the GOP governor would replace him with a member of his party — and in the next election, the red, red state would elect a Republican. As bad as Manchin is, he is light years ahead of the next person who would be selected(or elected) to fill his position.

We’re in northern Massachusetts this weekend.
Two beautiful autumn days.
75, sunny. Gorgeous.

This am it’s 48 degrees
I haven’t seen 48 since 2019

37 here in Twinky Flats. High of 68 predicted. Tomorrow it goes to hell with rain all day and a high of 48.

45 now in north suburban Cook County. High of 64 today and sunny - while tomorrow is supposed to be 70 and sunny. Of course, given that weather is governed by chaos theory, I would not bet real money on any of these predictions

COVID-19 testing will not be required to enter the U.S. by land or sea, provided visitors meet vaccination requirements, officials said.

That’s to ENTER the U.S. The way I interpreted the CBC article, Canada is the one requiring the test to reenter. I could be wrong, but it’s something I highly suggest you make sure of before entering the U.S. Would hate for you to get stuck for 3 or more days waiting for a test result.

I’m not sure what this means:

For trips to the U.S. of less than 72 hours, travellers are allowed to conduct their pre-entry test in Canada before they leave the country.
If fully vaccinated, travellers will not have to quarantine upon arrival into Canada, provided they have a negative test and are not symptomatic.

Basically, if your trip is less than 3 days, you can take a COVID test before you leave and the results of that test can be used as your proof of a negative test on re-entry.

The problem is that taking a COVID test here, the results may not come back for 72 hours, which is a pickle. I took one a couple of weeks ago because I lost my sense of smell (negative, likely sinus infection) and it took 2.5 days to get the results back. Shit.

Jesus lady is three years younger than me (why yes, she’s 58) and I am certainly not as thin as her, but I think I look better than she does, even being older. Plus, being a Jesus lady pays good…in 2019 she got $116K out of her ministry (which probably doesn’t include her travel expenses).

One thing that bothers me…I can’t find her Bureau of Prisons record, because she’s thoroughly deep-sixed whatever her name was before she married Robert Souza. Because, yeah, when someone makes extraordinary claims (like getting a 12 year prison sentence from the feds in 1999, and yet your ministry was started in 2006, and we know the feds don’t do parole), then something doesn’t smell quite right.

re: #135 mmmirele

This guy can kiss my fat, pasty-white hiney, except I’d kick him in the nuts if he got close. Lt. Gov. Robinson (R-NC) said some terrible things about LGBTQIA people, demonstrated that he doesn’t recognize our humanity and shouldn’t be in public office. Fuck that noise. I’m TIRED of this nonsense. I am who I am, and stop trying to make me into something I’m not!
