Actress Emily Richard covered with fake blood make-up, screams, as she joins thousands of anti-war demonstrators protesting the one year anniversary of the start of the U.S.-led war in Iraq , Saturday, March, 20, 2004 in the Hollywood section the Los Angeles, Calif. (AP Photo/Damian Dovarganes)

What the Associated Press doesn’t tell you about Emily Richard and her little play starring Emily, is that she is holding an Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades poster—the branch of Arafat’s Fatah group responsible for numerous acts of mass murder in Israel. The same depraved posters that are plastered across the walls of the West Bank and Gaza are now carried by Western idiots through the streets of Los Angeles.

UPDATE: Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is on the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations.

OK, the stuff in white type, I can't make out at all. At far right (viewer's right) is the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades logo. Charles,

Don't know if you saw my earlier post #230 but I was at the "Peace" rally in NYC today and the level of anti-semitism and anti-Israeli rhetoric was staggering.

Clearly the pro-palestinian factions have thoroughly influenced the LLL agenda and fully indoctrinated the simple minded sheep, who gleefully regurgitate any lies they are told.

It was a sad sight to see. However the PW crew did their best to present a counter message.

Fascinating, Charles. So basically, whoever got those posters printed broke the law. I wonderif there's any hope of following up on that. I wish some enterprising cop would read this and pay vile Ms Richard a visit to find out where she got the poster.

Thank you for the opportunity:

Good evening. On 'Ethel the Frog' tonight we look at violence. The violence of British Gangland. Last Tuesday a reign of terror was ended when the notorious Piranha brothers, Doug and Dinsdale, after one of the most extraordinary trials in British legal history, were sentenced to four hundred years imprisonment for crimes of violence.

(skipping down a bit)

Was there anything unusual about him?

I should say not. Dinsdale was a perfectly normal person in every way. Except is as much as he was convinced that he was being watched by a giant hedgehog whom he referred to as Spiny Norman.

How big was Norman supposed to be?

Normally he was wont to be about twelve feet from nose to tail, but when Dinsdale was very depressed Norman could be anything up to eight hundred yards long. When Norman was about, Dinsdale would go very quiet and his nose would swell up and his teeth would start moving about and he'd become very violent and claim that he'd laid Stanley Baldwin.

Reporter following trail of corruption in EU arrested (on orders of the EU)
3/21/04 by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Police arrested a leading investigative journalist yesterday on the orders of the European Union, seizing his computers, address books and archive of files in a move that stunned Euro-MPs.

Hans-Martin Tillack, the Brussels correspondent for Germany's Stern magazine, said he was held for 10 hours without access to a lawyer by the Belgian police after his office and home were raided by six officers.

"They asked me to tell them who my sources were. I replied that was something I would never do. Now they have all my sensitive files, so I suppose they'll find out anyway," he said last night.

"The police said I was lucky I wasn't in Burma or central Africa, where journalists get the real treatment," he added.

Mr Tillack said the raid was triggered by a complaint from the EU's anti-fraud office, OLAF. He was accused of paying money to obtain a leaked OLAF dossier two years ago, which he denies.

The European Ombudsman has already come to his defence, issuing a harsh criticism of OLAF's campaign to silence him.

Mr Tillack, who describes himself as a "pro-European federalist", has been OLAF's most vocal critic, accusing it of covering up abuses within the EU system.

As the author of a recent book on EU corruption, he has the greatest archive of investigative files of any journalist working in Brussels.

OLAF was created to replace the old fraud office UCLAF, which was accused of covering up abuses by the disgraced Santer Commission. Many UCLAF staff were transferred to OLAF.

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba -- Military officials say prisoners at the detention center here have provided a stream of intelligence to interrogators during the past two years, including detailed information about Al Qaeda's recruitment of Muslim men in Europe.

Military and intelligence officials also said those detainees who were cooperative had provided information about Al Qaeda's chemical and biological weapons efforts, had spoken about the training of suicide bombers, and had described Al Qaeda's use of charities to raise money for its aims.

Re #48:

The moron protester is holding a sign that translates to "US out of Iran"!!!

It's a little more ambiguous than that. The last word on the sign could be either "IRAN" or "IRAK" (the latter being the Spanish word for Iraq). Due to the angle the sign is being held at, and the lack of any other N's or K's on the sign, I can't be sure what that last letter is.

By the way, are there any scheduled demonstrations in support of the U.S. and allied military effort in liberating Iraq? I know that there were a few last year.

In response to #78:

You could always enlist and go to Iraq and do some of that killing for yourself.

But nah, you're just a fat little twerp sitting in your mommy's basement typing on your computer.

I have no tolerance for such cowardly chickenhawk, sniveling little scoundrels.

Enlist Fucker or shut your mouth

As a infantryman in the Army, I figure I'd throw in my $.02 cents.

What America and the West need is not more soldiers or weapons [though I'll gladly take another division or two]. What it needs is courage and willpower. Islamic fascists/Terrorists have labeled the West as a "paper tiger" for good reason; we lack the backbone to fight and defend ourselves.

My company [from the 10th Mountain] just returned from Afghanistan a little over a month ago. All that we have done there can be undone in a matter of weeks or months if America lacks the willpower to see it through. You could give the United States 250+ million soldiers and the result would be same every time...

If you lack the will, you will virtually ALWAYS fail.

The war between the West and Islamic fascism will not be a matter of who's guns are bigger, or who has better trained soldiers, for the West wins easily if it were so . It is instead a matter of which side has the willpower to succeed.

In this case, it is the homefront which is far more important than the battlefield itself. That is not meant to be construed as an insult to my fellow servicemen. But America's strength comes not from its military, but from it's citizens. Soldiers cannot fight on both the battlefield and back at home. For the latter, it falls upon the citizens.

If that "fat little twerp sitting in his mommy's basement typing on his computer." is the person who actually has the courage and willpower to see this thing through, then I rather have him then some snotty college kid protestor, who gets his knowledge of how the world works from Communist manifestos and Chomsky ramblings, and who'd rather appease, chant fancy slogans, and bend over than stand up and fight for their survival.

For every GI during WWII, there were thousands of men and women back home supporting and producing for their cause. These people did not receive medals, pins, or badges of honor. They took solace in that they did what they believed was right. In essence, you're insulting them due to the fact that they didn't pick up a rifle and fight on the battlefield. The homefront is THE battlefield, in the sense that it is fought through verbal dialogue and willpower. Hell if I'm just going to stand here and let you insult citizens because they don't want to bend over and submit to insane radicals.

Seeing that you have such a disrespect for what America stands for, perhaps it should be YOU that needs to enlist?

Encouragingly, the leftish Observer (the Sunday kinda-sister to the Guardian) takes a mocking tone in its report on the London demo.

"On top of his column, bedecked with a huge banner screaming 'No More War, No More Lies', Nelson looked down on the throng below.
There were the goths in their long black coats and Marilyn Manson T-shirts; cagouled pensioners clutching their Thermos flasks; Spanish students smoking Marlboros; assorted Big Issue sellers and hot-dog hawkers; and representatives from a cacophony of protest groups calling for everything from freedom for Palestine to a new global commitment to solar power.

Thousands of placards bearing the now familiar 'Bliar' and 'Make Tea Not War' were held aloft as union leaders and politicians took turns to address the enthusiastic, well-behaved crowd crammed into a drizzly Trafalgar Square.

George Galloway, the Independent MP for Glasgow Kelvin, told the demonstration that the allies' action had not been legitimate: 'Just because they call themselves the international community doesn't mean their actions are right.'

A message from London Mayor Ken Livingstone was read out: 'Everything we have learnt since the war has told us that it was totally unjustified.' The journalist Yvonne Ridley, who was captured by the Taliban and recently converted to Islam, called for the US prison in Guantanamo Bay to be closed down: 'If I had been captured by the US I would have been shaved, shackled and flown halfway across the world,' she said.

Earlier, a sound system segued Public Enemy's 'Don't Believe The Hype' with Norah Jones's 'Come Away With Me' as a giant video screen cut to a picture of Gandhi and flashed shots of last year's march.

Then, the demonstration was a million strong; yesterday's protest was smaller, although there were the usual arguments about the actual size - police claimed 25,000, organisers said four times bigger. True, there were whistles and drums, but the babies in buggies, the Twickenham brigade, the thirtysomething marrieds, were all missing this year. The celebrity turnout was also down. Last year the likes of Blur's Damon Albarn and Ms Dynamite were there; this year's crowd had to be content with violinist Nigel Kennedy."

Note that this was a miniscule crowd. A bit of a joke, really, if they have to rely on a clown like George Galloway as star speaker.

"Move along, nothing much happening here"

Lots of Brits remain unhappy about the WMD reasons given for war - but the debate has moved on, people are mostly more concerned with Iraq making progress towards better conditions and towards democracy.

I look at this kind of pictures with such disdain it is difficult to put into words. Everyone should be free to express their feelings - but, what attracts high paid actresses to stumble around in the street like that? Excitement? It couldn't be sympathy, because then one would have to explore the situation and, soon as one does that, one finds out that the people one is holding up their signs for are a murderous bunch of radicals that would turn against one's own person, should the situation permit.

So, in short, I'm laughing at those dumbo's that find their kicks in self-destruction. And, I'm disdained because that destruction does not only affect them.

Blair bans Labour Party delegation from flying to John Kerry's coronation
By Julian Coman in Washington and Colin Brown
(Filed: 21/03/2004)

Tony Blair has ordered Labour ministers and officials not to become embroiled in the US presidential race in an apparent attempt to avoid offending George W Bush.

The Prime Minister's veto on visits to the US means that only one minister, Douglas Alexander, will attend the formal crowning of John Kerry, the Democrats' candidate, in Boston in late July.

Tony Blair is said to back George Bush's re-election bid
Mr Blair's intervention, which will prevent his Labour colleagues from offering their traditional support to the Democrats, has astonished ministers who remember the close links Labour had with Bill Clinton during previous presidential campaigns.

In the past, up to 10 Labour officials and a few MPs have attended the Democrat convention informally, including close friends of the Chancellor and Downing Street aides.

Wish I had time to borrow some money from mom and dad's car to go protest the liberation of 50 million people, no, I won't be supporting any terrorists today because...oh yeah: it's St. Baldrick's Day again.

And a lovely day it is, blue skies and warm.

And let them know that we’re ready to sacrifice more if that is the price needed to secure and maintain our freedom. Where were those paid off voices when we were murdered in thousands? Where were their ugly voices when Saddam used poisons on innocents?
That was not a war but a hope we were all dreaming of and we will never forget the sacrifices of the others and what they offered in the sake of our freedom.
A heart felt greetings to the heroes of this brave and just operation who never spare an effort to help us and listen to us.
God bless the souls of those heroes who died during this operation.
That was not a war but a salvation and a wonderful dream and unbelievable dream coming true.

Thank you Al Powel, you have messed up our Elections in India!

The ruling party, BJP worked night and day to rebuild lost relations with Israel to bring it up to the level of Allies.

And when 11 Sept happened, India was the first to offer its military bases and airspace for operations against the Taliban.

Today, the BJP tries to pitch its improved relationship with US as one of its election issues.

Al Powel lands in New Delhi and without a warning, goes on to Declare Pakistan as an Major Non-NATO ally in Islamabad.

BJP is shell shocked. THe Congress and leftists are braying for BJP's blood. They say that while BJP was sucking up to US, the Americans have literally kicked us in the back.

This is a very very bad moment just before Elections.

Al Powel could have embraced Mushy whenever he wanted after our Elections.. the timing was the worst and effect is going to be drastic :(

197 z  Sun, Mar 21, 2004 6:51:16am

You can look at a terrorist, attacking a target, and describe what you see on different levels. You can say “Look at that man, he’s killing those people and himself!” Or, “Look at that suicide bomber, attacking non-combatants.” Or, “Look, an Islamic fundamentalist just blew up his victims, secular “infidel” businessmen, at the symbols for world trade and American defense.” You are describing the same act, but in the second and third statements, you are connecting the events to other events, to try to grasp some relationship between the events.

I believe that when people get September 11th right, it is to the degree that they connect ALL events to the context of the disaster. (That's why I read this blog) Their mind relates many concepts, such as America, Islam, freedom, submission, rights, force, individualism, religion, Capitalism, dictatorship, oil, poverty, money, the masses, individualism vs collectivism, selfishness vs sacrifice (to God or Community), state support for terrorism, and many more; all of this accompanied by an array of facts about the world in all of these categories.

To the degree they are wrong, they are focusing on only some events or one particular actor, event, or concept and evading the existence of other concepts.

The tip off is if a person writes, speaks and knows everything about a particular politician, George W. for example, but have little to say about other people, politicians, religions, countries, cultures etc, connected with the event. There are many relevant facts to the September 11th issue (and subsequent wars) than just the existence and actions of George W. Bush. There are other lands, with different people, all acting and interacting with each other. There seems to be no separate contemplation of what is going on independent from Bush in the minds of certain people.

Then, because there IS another world out there that people have to acknowledge, they take a cursory glance at what’s out there, and describe it with reference to what they know about the particular politician (idea) they’re against.

Witness the ironically named “Independent” Alligator “newspaper” in Gainesville. In quoting Donald Rumsfeld in an anti-Bush editorial, they slyly changed the wording of the quote to drop reference to mosques and madrassahs as training grounds for terrorists, because it didn’t serve to embarrass the Administration. At least eight subsequent letters to the editor by various readers were not even met with a response from the “newspaper.”

Then there are the people who protest in the streets. I don’t know if any particular protestor is down on the corner of 13th Street and University Ave because they’re anti-semetic (and believe that American policy is run by Jews), anti-Bush (and think American policy is run by Oil Barrons), or anti-American (and think that America was a more fundamental cause of September 11th), or pro-Communist (and just want to rail against Capitalism), or pro-Islamist (and want to see a Muslim Caliphate dominate the world), or pro-Muslim (and think that America is persecuting and attacking Islam), or just some hoodlum (that wants to drink outside and fight); but I see that they have a particular angle that they are viewing events from. None of these people can trace the cause of September 11th back to something independent from their angle.

That’s why so many people couldn’t rule out that America (sort of) got what it deserved. The idea that the terrorist cause exists independently from any American policy or action, and would have attacked regardless of America’s troops being in Saudi Arabia, or America’s support for Israel, is non-existent in these types of people’s brains.

I try to look from all angles, I don’t think I look at any event from any particular angle accept as someone who wants to live. Some say everyone has an angle. I think that’s true. The test is whether you have more than one.

IMHO, Pakistan should have gotten the Afghanistan treatment from the start. Unfortunately, we went with expediency.

Two Asia Times articles on the Indian quandary:

[Link: www.atimes.com...]

Of course, India is rattled. Pakistan, though always a major non-NATO ally of the US, has now formally become part of a privileged group of countries that includes Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Egypt and Argentina.

The timing of the move is very bad from the point of view of India's ruling party. One of the main planks in its re-election bid is the success it claims to have achieved in building close strategic ties with the United States. The special relationship with the sole superpower was an important part of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's "feel good" electoral package. The opposition will inevitably use this slight by the US to highlight the hollowness of the Indian government's claims.

[Link: www.atimes.com...]

China is certainly scratching its head over the implications of Pakistan's newly elevated strategic status for its own ties with that country. In the short run, Sino-Pakistani ties are not likely to be affected. However, in the long run - especially if Islamabad were to get even more economic and military benefits from Washington - the traditional Sino-Indian strategic rivalry might be revisited by Beijing and Delhi. There is little doubt that if Pakistan were to accrue the kind of military and economic payoffs that it expects to get from Washington, the strategic balance in South Asia will undergo a noteworthy mutation. Such a transformation would not be welcomed by New Delhi or Beijing, for different reasons.

It hurts my ears to hear the stupid statements about the “death of innocents” and the “tragedies” that are happening now because everybody knows that these are nothing comparable to the tragedies and losses we suffered in the past and those were for nothing.

The use of the term "innocents" has a propaganda meaning tied with the communist movement in the early part of the last century. I just read a book review of "DOUBLE LIVES: Spies and Writers in the Secret Soviet War of Ideas Against the West," and here's the relevant part:

[Link: members.iglou.com...]

"But the word 'innocence' also suggests a motive. I refer to the need for righteousness, righteousness in the Biblical sense. The thirst for moral justification for one's life in the world is one of the deepest needs, one of our most powerful and essentially human drives, ignored at our cost and peril. In his 'Innocents' Clubs', Münzenberg provided two generations of people on the left with what we might call the forum of righteousness. More perhaps than any other person of the era, he developed what may well be the leading moral illusion of the twentieth century: the notion that in the modern age the principal arena of the moral life, the true realm of good and evil, is politics. He was the unseen organizer of that variety of politics, indispensable to the adversary culture, which we might call Righteousness Politics. 'Innocents' Clubs': The very phrase suggests how the political issues Münzenberg manipulated came for many to serve as a substitute for religious belief. He offered everyone, anyone, a role in the search for justice on our century. By defining guilt, he offered his followers innocence, and they seized upon it by the millions."

Yes, the USSR and the Commitern are gone, but the propaganda techniques live on, and they are being used by the current anti-freedom movement.

Whats the matter with you? I was simply trying to say that some people look at all the facts. Some people block out the facts. You guys, and this blog, integrates and brings together the facts that expose these militant islamic terrorist thugs for what they are. There is a right and wrong. And absolutes exist in morality, DUH! September 11th was an unjust disgusting event perpetrated by evildoers. I support military action against dictatorships unequivocally. If any clarification is in order, i suppose its this: When I said from all angles, i meant using ALL facts available, and not evading the existence of a radical mosque here and a secret front organization there. Don't pretend CAIR is moderate Islam. Pursue all angles of looking at an issue really means not getting bogged down in a rationalistic conspiracy theory of the world (like Jews running the world). I'm sorry, that's just not a very clearly expressed idea. I'll try to articulate it better next time. If I can muster the courage to write about things that are important to me.

#222, z,

It looks to me that your post #197 can be interpreted (incorrectly) as criticism of lgf-posters-in-general-as-people-who-don't-conside r-all-the-facts-whereas-the-deep-thinking-z-does.

Also, unfortunately, some people don't ask for clarification prior to assuming another person is a troll or the like. One person (#200) did, but you didn't reply, so others assumed you were being arrogantly critical.

That's the way it is on blogs, for those who aren't well known to others: well known posters are usually given more benefit of the doubt by others. New posters may be jumped on.

As an occasional poster, I've had various others jump on me at various times (not quite as angrily as some seem to have jumped on you, though.) Please try to thicken your skin a little and keep posting, if you have something that you feel is important to say. And keep in mind that without visual cues and tone of voice, it may be difficult for others to interpret your words in the way that you intend.

Rememeber, not everyone jumped on you. Also, I was irritated by your post when I first read it and thought you were being a little arrogant. But I just let it slide, since I don't read lgf just to look for arguments with strangers. Some people do like to joust with others, though...

I believe that when people get September 11th right, it is to the degree that they connect ALL events to the context of the disaster.

ALL events? Get September 11th right? I don't need to read the qu'ran to figure out why the hell 911 happened. Nor do I wish to understand why the terrorists did what they did. Only that they did kill, and want to do it again.

The reason why the majority of people here responded in a negative way to your post is because were very good at smelling trolls, and your language had all the NUANCE of one.

I'm sorry, that's just not a very clearly expressed idea. I'll try to articulate it better next time. If I can muster the courage to write about things that are important to me.

The army doesn't need hateful soldiers who just want to "blow stuff up." A real soldier knows that he is given a gun for the purpose of defending his country, its people, and their right to live there as free people, and that he must take painful strides to achieve that goal. (Anyone should feel free to correct me.) An army of pyromaniac sadists is a sad one indeed.

In the photo of this demonstration, called an "anti-war" demonstration by AP, the demonstrator actress Emily Richard holds an al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades poster. Nobody should think that she was unaware of what she was holding: on the poster in the upper right corner there is a drawing of al-Aqsa Mosque, with 2 crossed swords underneath it. It's a jihad theme, not an anti-war theme.

Here is an article explaining the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
[Link: www.ict.org.il...]

The al-Aqsa Marthyrs' Brigades is the striking arm of Yassir Arafat's Fatah organization and one of the driving forces behind the current Palestinian violence. .. The Brigades' infrastructure, funds, leadership, and operatives derive from the Fatah Tanzim in the Judea and Samaria. Its main powerbases are located in Nablus and Ramallah.
To date, the Fatah Tanzim and the Martyrs of al-Aqsa have taken responsibility for hundreds of terror attacks in which Israeli civilians were killed. Israeli authorities say that since September 2000 the Fatah-linked groups have carried out more than 2,000 attacks and attempted attacks, including car bombings, shootings, kidnappings, and knife attakcs. The Martyrs of al-Aqsa Brigades were involved in the vast majority of these [Fatah-linked] attacks.
... According to the al-Aqsa Brigades, not one grain of Arab and Islamic soil should be conceded, all refugees must be allowed to return to former homes in what is now Israel, and any concession to Israel is tantamount to treason.
Unlike the Hamas and the Islamic Jihad -- the groups usually associated with mass-casualty attacks against Israel -- the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade was at first thought of as a secular, nationalist group, rather than an Islamic one. Thus it came as something of a surprise when the group gegan carrying out suicide bombings. On hindsight, however, this appers as a natural step. Islamic motifs had been part of the "al-Aqsa" conflict from the beginning -- the very name of the conflict was derived from the [EE note: ridiculously false] notion that Israel had plans to destroy the al-Aqsa Mosque. Religious motifs have been used extensively by Arafat in his diatribes against "Israeli occupation of Muslim holy places." Thus, having made Islam-vs.-Judaism a central tenet of the war, it was natural for Fatah to alter its own character to suit the rhetoric that had launched the conflict and kept it going.
.. The popularity of the Islamic groups was given a boost when it appeared that only Hamas and PIJ were acting to implement Arafat's call for "rivers of blood in the streets of Tel-Aviv." However, this situation was reversed with the emergence of the al-Aqsa Brigades, which since its formation has almost completely eclipsed the Hams and the Islamic Jihad, both in the number and in the deadliness of its attacks...
.. Most of the Brigades' leaders are salaried members of thePA and its security forces...
... The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades are not a "rogue militia" as Arafat claimed in the past. Rather its members are on the Palestinian Authority's payroll, [its] activities are financed out of Palestinian Authority coffers, and its attacks are carried out with the knowledge and backing of Yassir Arafat's inner circle. In an interview with USA Today on March 14, 2002, Maslama Thabet, another leader of the Brigades, described the group as an integral part of Fatah. "The truth is, we are Fatah itself, but we don't operate under the name Fatah. We are the armed wing of the organization. We receive our instructions from Fatah. Our commander is Yassir Arafat himself."
The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades work i close cooperation with other terrorist organizations operating in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip, and many of its attacks have been [carried] out together with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. This cooperation includes sharing of information and technical know-how, as well as the formation of "cocktail" [mixed] cells.
While the group initially vowed to target only Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in early 2002 it began a spree of terrorist attacks against civilians in Israeli cities. To date, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades have carried out more attacks on Israelis than its Islamist counterparts, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. In March 2002, after a deadly al-Aqsa Brigades suicide bombing in Jerusalem, the U.S. State Department added the group to the U.Sl list of foreign terrorist organizations. The designation makes it illegal under U.S. law to provide material support to the organization and requires banks to freeze its assets. The move marked the first time the Bush administration has taken active steps against an organization directly linked to Palestinian Chairman Yassir Arafat.

Thanks, you're right. Hell, I guess I am a little arrogant. I like to be, in the face of what we marching in the streets, these days. Plus, weblogs seem to be more designed for shorter posts.

But this illustrates my point. LGF posters are obviously smart people who for the most part interperet events correctly. But perhaps some regulars get a little too used to fending off trolls that they do not focus on what they read. I'm not interested in going back and forth and proving myself. I don't have thin skin but wasn't prepared to be called names. I admit, i'm the one who must get with the program, I actually had a long drive so I couldn't post again.

I've been thinking about ideas as far as their method as opposed to their content. I'm saying that the content is created by the method. Its just a plug for good ole rational thinking, logic, and induction as the means to understanding the cause of September 11th. I've been watching the 911 documentary on DVD lately and am so upset by it. I've also been trying to figure out why the issues are not clear to some people, or why some actually take a position that the U.S is to blame.

Anyway, heres to LGF! A nice place to visit. Just have your anti-idiotarian ID available upon entrance.

#225, smoot,

that was a troll, not a soldier. If you reread the related comments and posts, you will notice that poster is a drive-by troll, looking to be antagonistic. More likely of DU origin than free republic. Sort of interesting how people interpret posts, eh?

It would be good for the world to delegitimize terrorism, because it is a mode of warfare that puts the burden of war on the innocent. That includes civilians, and that includes children.

While there are some Euros that (before 3/11, anyway) argued that there is good terrorism and bad terrorism, depending on the cause of the terrorists, that is not a satisfactory argument if there is going to be a delegitimization of terrorism. Every terrorist is going to claim that his terrorism is of the good kind. There is no way to draw the line, except to delegitimize all terrorism.

You are right that there are two sides to every struggle, but that doesn't mean that they are equal arguments. You have to decide which argument is the stronger one, or you will forever sit on every fence. For myself, I choose the war against terrorism, including the effort to delegitimize terrorism, because of its burden on the innocent.

Another thing that you have to realize, in listening to the arguments that favor particular terrorists, is that those who spout those arguments have an agenda.

The agenda of the Arab-Islamic radicals is to establish a caliphate that would be like a Talibanized Afghanistan, over the world. If that seems like a worthy goal -- and it does seem like a worthy goal to the Arab-Islamic radicals -- then you will be swayed by their arguments. They make some assumptions, however: one of them is that the one and only God, Allah, wants that. With their love of death driven by religious fervor, their minds are made up and they espouse anything that brings them closer to their goal.

The agenda of the leftist radicals is to bring down America, so that the revolution that their idolized leaders predicted (Marx, Lenin, Stalin) could finally be realized in some way or other. Since their anti-American goals have some commonality with the anti-Great-Satan goals of the Arab-Islamic radicals, they are making common cause.

The agenda of many of the Euro governments involves buying off the terrorists and distancing themselves from America, as a means of trying to seek a separate peace for themselves, and not having to worry about the terrorists. Their method of thinking involves the idea of appeasement -- it's rooted deep in their thinking. In the appeasement mode, if they get attacked, they feel that they deserved it; if America gets attacked, they feel America deserved it; if Israel gets attacked, they feel Israel deserved it; and so on. The appeasement mode is a little like the Stockholm Syndrome, where you sympathize with the group that is threatening you. I hope that you don't fall into that trap.

"The agenda of the Arab-Islamic radicals is to establish a caliphate that would be like a Talibanized Afghanistan, over the world. "

You're right, and if people look at all the facts, they would see this phenomenon. Most people fail to realize that there is an organized power waging war against us, because they don't look from other angles. They say "well, wasn't the war about oil?" And that's good enough for them. They have no concept that people have declared war on us whether or not we even acknowledge it.

A lot of times, I can't even shift the discussion to the idea that the terrorists want a caliphate, because their thinking doesn't even include knowledge of these facts, because "Bliar!" slogans are available to those who live without thought. But even with intelligent people, like my father, are so obtuse that they see everything through their pre-concieved way of thought, that new information is filtered by it. So allegations about A.Q. Khan are not startling revelations confirming how far the Arab-Islamic war has gone, just another example of a corrupt guy doing everything for money. All these events are seemingly disconnected in their minds. Observe the widespread view that terrorists are just criminals, not soldiers in a cultural-religious war in which the aggressors are hiding their war through the means of dispatching terrorists and covering their traces to the leaders.

Observe that we know leaders of some countries are directly supporting terrorists, and even this fact is ignored by some.

I can't figure out why it's not black and white to people.

#227, z,

Yeah to a bunch of things in your #227...

A guess from me as to why so many people don't "get" the reality of the islamist war on the rest of the planet:

Many people throughout the world reason by analogy far more than by logic (ever notice how often people say, "like" in converstions?). In fact, reasoning by analogy is itself a favored approach of the hanafi school of islam - the hanafi school which is itself the source of most of the "modernists" in islam. Even their "modernists" are trapped in illogic.

Of course, my previous paragraph oversimplifies ... logic isn't always what it is cracked up to be, particuarly when only incomplete or unreliable information is available about a situation, and different people will assign different value to the same information, based upon their own life experiences...

And as EE points out, many people have agendas. Their arguments are not meant in-good-faith, although they may attempt to appear to be.

Thanks dude, but I could tell he was a putz. I mean, it's expected that leftists from places such Democratic Underground would respond to my comments the way that Freepers did. Freeper, after all, was essentially labelling American soldiers as bloodthirsty murderers.

Smoot #233,

a-ok. Sorry if i belabored the obvious, but i've been noticing alternate interpretations of stuff people write alot today.

Yeah, mr. freepers the troll is a putz.

Speaking of one's contents of their thoughts vs. their method of thinking: I think a lot of these protestors have a method of evasion. Certainly they have access to the same facts as most of us - knowledge of embassy bombings, military attacks, hijackings, truckbombs, suicidal homicide - but refuse to look at them and make the proper identification of what they mean, where they came from, why they happened, what is the cause and what is therefore the solution?

I think many students today are presented with disciplines in concrete-bound manner, with no larger focus on the big picture and the relation of different "aspects" of an event, person, etc. Even in engineering courses, I have noticed, we will learn a discipline without being taught, nor responsible for showing we understand, where we started and how we got to where we ended up - that is, how we inducted our conclusions from the facts readily available to us. This is probably part of the fact that some look at the world without any integration of the facts in front of them, it's like they just learned engineering consists of memorizing different formulas, and so each situation in life has its own little formula, apart from what else exists in the world, without any relation - either contradiction or agreement - to anything else. The thoughts or opinions on certain events or phenomena are memorized associations more than exlanations connected to reality. Probably much worse so in the humanities.

I just know that some foreign (and not too friendly) media will print this picture without a caption or with a misleading caption, next to other pics of the cops arresting protestors - providing an impression that this airhead had been bloodied by the police as a part of a crackdown.

And the gullible foreigners will think - as they had done many times before - "These Amerikans have no freedom of speech themselves - and they have the nerve to tell us how to run our societies? At least our women don't run in the streets covered in blood and screaming - well, almost. But when they do it's not for the photo-op."
