And the media beat goes on: US Confirms Gitmo Soldier Kicked Quran.

Consider, if you will, the untold amounts of money wasted on this utterly inconsequential, excruciatingly trivial story.

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday released new details about mishandling of the Quran at the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects, confirming that a soldier deliberately kicked the Muslim holy book and that an interrogator stepped on a Quran and was later fired for “a pattern of unacceptable behavior.”

In other confirmed incidents, water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet; a guard’s urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran; and in a confirmed but ambiguous case a two-word obscenity was written in English on the inside cover of a Quran.

The findings, released after normal business hours Friday evening, are among the results of an investigation last month by Brig. Gen. Jay Hood, the commander of the detention center in Cuba, that was triggered by a Newsweek magazine report — later retracted — that a U.S. soldier had flushed one Guantanamo Bay detainee’s Quran down a toilet.

The story stirred worldwide controversy and the Bush administration blamed it for deadly demonstrations in Afghanistan.

Hood said in a written statement released Friday evening, along with the new details, that his investigation “revealed a consistent, documented policy of respectful handling of the Quran dating back almost 2 1/2 years.”

Hood said that of nine mishandling cases that were studied in detail, five were confirmed to have happened. He could not determine conclusively whether the four others took place.

He also said they found 15 cases of detainees mishandling their own Qurans. “These included using a Quran as a pillow, ripping pages out of the Quran, attempting to flush a Quran down the toilet and urinating on the Quran,” Hood’s report said. It offered no possible explanation for the detainees’ motives.

It sickens me too see our country bend over for these in-humans. Whats the big fuckin deal? They just kicked the damn thing, and now there is stink up the roof. How backward today's society is when a friggin book is more valuable than human lives. Sick!

Hmmm. Urine. Holy Book. Sounds like what passes for art in our more blue cities. Maybe we should nominate these guards for art awards.

Kick the Quran, isn't that a game we used to play as kids. Oh, no that was kick the CAN. My bad.

11 mungagungadin  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 4:06:55pm

And my second thought is...

who says we have to be forthright about a NON-ABUSE issue? Why the hell did anyone admit this? The media has no honor, is going to do something horribly traitorous with it, but that is PREDICTABLE. So... who made the decision to disclose?

Based on recent events there was the case for NONDISCLOSURE to save innocent lives.

25 OilStooge  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 4:13:43pm

Aw jeez...

When I saw the "splashed with urine," I immediately thought that some guard actually tried to piss on the thing...

But if you read down the story, the guard was pissing outside near an air vent and uring inadvertently splashed into the cell.

The distinction, through irresponsible wire copy reports, will be lost.

I agree with someone above that this should have been kept under wraps for the time being. Kimmit, the commanding officer at GTMO, voluntarily offered this information, and why now is beyond my comprehension.

Stay tuned to your local cable channel and watch the Middle East explode.

For me, the biggest surprise after 9/11 (which was my #1 surprise) was how the MSM seems incapable of thinking through the larger issues--like jihadism and what the Koran actually says. I knew reporters were stupid based on info I had about other stories--BUT I didn't realize that they were as stupid as they are.

Are any reporters from Newsweek or the Chicago Tribune reading this? Do you catch my drift? You are STUPID.

He also said they found 15 cases of detainees mishandling their own Qurans. It offered no possible explanation for the detainees’ motives.

OK, here's an explanation: the detainees have seen the light and are angry for having believed the Quran. It was the Quranic call for jihad that landed them in Gitmo in the first place. It does not surprise me in the least that some of these guys are having second thoughts about Islam.

an interrogator stepped on a Quran and was later fired for “a pattern of unacceptable behavior.”

A pattern of "unacceptable behavior" is wide open, and may have nothing to do with his conduct toward detainees. Being consistently late for work is a "pattern of unacceptable behavior." So is repeated insubordination. In fact, there are a variety of behaviors that can get one fired that have nothing to do with mistreatment of those for whom we are responsible (like detainees).

French Fighter Jets Forced To Land In N.J.

POMONA, N.J. -- Nine French fighter jets and a radar plane stayed overnight at Atlantic City International Airport after bad weather prevented them from returning to their aircraft carrier off the Virginia coast, authorities said Friday.

The planes, low on fuel, initially asked for permission to land Thursday at a United States military installation but lacked the clearance number, said Noel Clay, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department.

--snip

There was a further complication, according to a broadcast report. One of the pilots tried to buy fuel Thursday and couldn't because he didn't have the available funds on his credit card, according to Philadelphia television station WPVI-TV.

For some reason, I find this incredibly funny!

This utterly bizarre story is the natural outcome of an utterly bizarre power-seeking strategy, the strangely selective global craze for "cultural sensitivity."
The institutional media are insane and most of the world is insane with them because institutional media values; including its educational offshoot, multiculturalism; still prevail in most of the world.

Only in the US has society advanced far enough on the media learning curve for a sizable percentage of the population to have become skeptical of, and even hostile toward, the institutional media. In the alleged bastions of cultural sophistication, Canada and Europe, the media cult is still in the prime of of its power, comparable to the US in the 80s. In the Islamic world, it is still in the stage of sqawling, feces-flinging infancy roughly comparable to the "Yellow Press" of the 1890s.

The decline of institutional media dominance has only begun even in this country, but it is still enough to produce a serious discontinuity of perception between our people and the enslaved masses of Eurabia. A sizable percentage of our own people, of course, are still utterly devoted to the media cult, so much so that they scarcely have lives, beliefs or personalities in any other context.
It will be a long fight. It is already bloody and will become bloodier still. The outcome is scarcely in doubt however. The institutional media are doomed, since their decline is the result not of political or social forces, but of technology in the form of the internet and the allied "New Media."
The media lords know it as well, and they are lashing out desperately in the vain hope that their moth-eaten memes can be revived simply by shouting them louder and asserting them more strongly.

Death to traitors, death to terrorists, death to Big Media.

Speaking of art, I once had a religon teacher tell that ol' Mu-ham-ed spoke of compassion much more than vengence…if such teachings exist I think junxtaposing those with the most brutal images of Islam; beheadings, riots, abuse, rape, in giant ass photos, ending with 9/11 of course. I think ti would look powerful as hell, and although the compassionate teachings may be slim, the horrific imagery certainly isn't.

I like to call it a Koran just because it is less multi-cultural than Qu'ran.

The whole desecration fracas was an exercise in dishonesty, an excuse to whip up anti-American sentiment among the illiterate. The MEasterners can't possibly be stupid enough to care THAT MUCH about the allegations. Or, well...maybe they can.

Actually, Islam pracitices a kind of "bibliolatry" which is the type of idolatry in which a book is unduly revered in a godlike fashion. While Christians revere the Bible as the Word of G-d, they do not idolize the actual paper and ink it is written on. They also idolize Mohammed. If he is not revered in godlike fashion, why is it "blasphemy" to make a negative comment about him? Blasphemy refers to gods or G-d only.

I am reaching the end of my string with the government falling over itself about the Koran. The troops should be told to handle the the Bible, the Torah and the Koran all the same way. Ask the soldier if he/she is Christian/Jewish/Muslim/whatever then tell them to handle the Koran with the same respect the show their religious text. Pay them all the same respect, no less and certainly no more.

We are winding ourselves into little knots over this cr*p with the Koran and the detainess and their treatment and it needs to stop. Which part of freaking terrorist don't people understand!

I am really upset with Bush and Rice for their lickspittle kowtowing over this nonsense. Muslims do not treat the Bible and the Torah with any respect and I see no reason why we should fall over backwards to respect the Koran.

I would like to talk, representing all those veterans, and say that several months ago in Detroit, we had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged and many very highly decorated veterans testified to war crimes committed in Guantánamo Bay, not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command...

They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off suras, cut off pages, taped wires from portable telephones to Qur'ans and turned up the power, cut off covers, blown up Qur'ans, randomly shot at Qur'ans, razed Qur'ans in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot Qur'ans for fun, poisoned Qur'ans, and generally ravaged the Noble Qur'an in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

Two thoughts about this 'story':

A) Has anyone yet seen a parallel story about 'Bible abuse' (or Torah abuse, for that matter) occurring in other cultures?

B) Why can some journalists only report a story at face value? Any article that omits the bit about the post-Newsweek riots possibly being orchestrated is incomplete.

OK, two more thoughts and then I'll shut up:

Funny that every religion under the sun can be made fun of in some way and it's considered fine/okay/cool. But no one dare say anything negative about Islam!

It's time to change that.

A good place to start is with the forum at FaithFreedom.org. Those guys do a pretty good job of ridiculing Mohammed, the Qur'an, and the poor pathetic Muslims who show up to defend their religion from mockery.

Ali Sina, the guy who runs the site, wrote a great essay on how the true believer Muslims are so brainwashed that it's pointless to try to argue with them based on facts and logic. The only thing left is to humiliate and shame them for following such an idiotic cult religion. Even then, you might not change their minds, but you might instill a kernel of doubt that could blossom into full-on apostasy, if you're lucky. If not, at least you get them steaming mad (and hope they don't find you and behead you, that is).

I see this as a positive report that should quiet the abuse stories by showing the infrequency of these events and that they are a rare occurance. A true testament to the good treatment these animals are getting. General Myers said in an interview-

We've had 68,000 detainees since this conflict against violent extremism started. We've had 325 investigations into alleged abuse. We've had 100 cases of substantiated abuse and there are 100 individuals that have had some sort of action taken, either court-martial or administrative action.

100 substantiated abuse cases out of 68,000 prisoners, thats an abuse rate of 0.14%! And only 5 dealt with Koran mishandling. Sounds like the military is doing a fanstastic job and Gitmo is a model military prison for enemy combatants. Bet the abuse rate the people were experiencing before they were captured was far higher...hell, I say they are better off!

A) Has anyone yet seen a parallel story about 'Bible abuse' (or Torah abuse, for that matter) occurring in other cultures?

To answer your question, Palestinian terrorists used Bibles as toilet paper and littered the floor of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem with empty bottles of liquor and cigarette butts when they were holed up there three years ago hiding from the IDF (behind civilian hostages, naturally).

From the same article, in October 2000, after Israeli troops vacated the city of Nablus as a peace gesture, "within hours of the Israeli withdrawal, smoke was seen billowing from [Joseph's] tomb as an Arab crowd burned Jewish prayer books and other holy objects. Palestinians used pickaxes, hammers and later bulldozers to tear apart the stone building. The dome of the tomb was painted green, and a mosque was subsequently erected in its place."

I'll quote a few more paragraphs from that story as it's just so telling of how Muslims really feel about other religions:

Rabbi Hillel Lieberman, who lived nearby, headed by foot to the tomb when he heard of its desecration, hoping, his family said, to save any Torah scrolls or other holy objects that might have been left intact.

Lieberman disappeared. His bullet-ridden body was found the next day in a cave.

"[Hillel] was unarmed, wearing a tallit (Jewish prayer shawl), and he was brutally murdered by our enemies who want to erase our existence," said Yehudit Tayar, spokeswoman for the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

Hillel's father, Zevulun, a religious instructor at Yeshiva University, told WND: "If indeed the Quran was flushed down the toilet, that is despicable. But now they protest? The religion that actually desecrated the grave of Joseph, the great-grandson of Abraham?

"Nowhere in the parameters of humanity is it tolerable to destroy a holy site. The Muslims did something even an animal wouldn't do. Only humans who are completely sick with no sense of reason can do such a thing. And only a religion that is beyond the pale of humanity can sit back and not protest such an act."

There I was, in Haiti with Duvalier's supporters, burning Korans for warmth and listening to President Gore telling the nation that I wasn't there. They were all wasted on rum and crank, shooting at me and taunting..."You're a rich girl and it's going too far cause you know it don't matter anywaaay. You can rely on the old man's money..." This humiliation cut me to the core of my being.

It was Christmas Eve, 2004, and my lack of personal wealth caused me an indescibable feeling of shame. I remember it distinctly. The way those flames flickered in the ocean breeze is seared...seared into my memory. It was then that the CIA operative I was working with told me never to sign Standard Form 180...

I can assure you (despite the fact that 302 of the stories are within the last three hours, and 301 within the last two) that there is no evidence WHATSOEVER of MSM collusion in propagating this story in a blatant and crude attempt to smear the Bush presidency.

I have actually read the WHOLE constitution (and only reading the Koran was worse). This sets me apart from the German Members of Parliament who voted on it (for us) and provenly did not read it.

The funniest thing came from Giscard, who wrote most of that pompous stuff. He commented to his people:

"It's useless to read Part III"

Part III is the bulk of the "Constitution", a rewrite of all the former EU treaties, but which also sanctifies the undemocratic power grab of the EU.

I was just watching the Military Channel and in WWII General Bradley instructed his troops to not take German snipers as prisoners...He said that (rough quote here, short term memory loss due to the Karl Rove mind control device in my ass is short circuiting) "We will not let those snipers kill on of our boys and then drop his gun and surrender". Not to mention the "interment camps" for Japanese Americans. Did these Japanese Americans have legal representation? Is FDR as commander-in-chief, then a war crimminal because of these policies? Should he have been impeached? Why is this always a one way street? Just wondering...

HINDUS BURN KORAN

There's not much to be heard from the Arabs on that score, because the ultra-nationalist types among the Hindus are every bit as bloodyminded as the jihadis. The Mohammedan invasion of India in medieval times was probably the bloodiest conquest ever, and the Hindus have long memories of it. Read Will Durant.

Anyway, if Muslims ever pulled off a 9/11 in India, the Ganges couldn't hold all the blood that would flow in retribution. Nor all the savaged Korans.

The next American Flag that is burned will initiate the first desecreation of a Koran. I will personally put a Koran (the book of the false prophet) into the pig pen on my farm and once there is enough pig shit on it, I will light it on fire.

It's time to BAN THE KORAN.

It's the book of SATAN. Just open a few pages and you will be convinced.

281 The Sanity Inspector  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 6:09:29pm

Actually, all fantasizing aside, we do have to humor the Muslims who are nominally on our side. Orson Scot Card is right, in the course of this reaming of Newsweek:

Our country is at war. And it's a war in which victory absolutely depends on the Muslim world perceiving it as a war between the U.S and its allies on one side, and fanatical murderous terrorists on the other.

If it is ever perceived as a war against Islam, then we have lost. The world has lost.

So during such a difficult time, even people who think the Iraq War or even the whole war on terror is a horrible mistake still have an obligation of loyalty to the nation that offers them protection, prosperity, and freedom.

I mean, what kind of idiot breaks a hole in the hull of his boat during a storm, just because he doesn't like the guy at the tiller and thinks the storm could have been avoided?

Hard to meet men when you go to class, grocery store, home.

We need, at some point, you and I, to exchange corgi stories, since you have two. I have one pembroke, and a mid-size black mutt with a low and evile (that's a deliberate mis-spelling) sense of humor.

Good idea...these two bozos have that wicked corgi humor, as well. Pembroke Follies around here...lol.

If he's living with his ex, run far, far away! He's not over her - and don't let anyone tell you it's economics.

As for meeting men when it's class, work, store, home...um...I think I'll save that for a private e-mail. Oh, my, the stories I could tell! Not fit for mixed company, but you know how girls can be.

The right company would be my loving Male of the Species (I need to trademark that phrase), not my very married boss.

So what they are saying is, our soldiers guarding head choppers (who only have their death cult book because of the humane treatment we provide to people less than animals) treat their death scriptures in hard back better than the head choppers do?

Somehow I don't think they'll report that aspect.

If only we could buy koran toilet paper.

This is the pinnacle of how the media's bias and lack of objectivity have come to clear daylight.

He also said they found 15 cases of detainees mishandling their own Qurans. "These included using a Quran as a pillow, ripping pages out of the Quran, attempting to flush a Quran down the toilet and urinating on the Quran," Hood's report said. It offered no possible explanation for the detainees' motives.

So while headline reads --

"U.S. Confirms Gitmo Soldier Kicked Quran"

it could've also read ---

"U.S. Confirms Gitmo Detainees Rip, Flush, Urinate On Quran"

Wouldn've made a big difference to the reading public.

Honest advice, from someone with waaay too many heartbreaks - don't answer his calls, and tell him to go away. He's not your best friend, he's an emotional drain, and how are you supposed to move on?

The only communication he should initiate with you should involve 1) money he owes you (and I'm sure he does) or 2) the kid. All else is just making you unhappy.

Incident on the street in San Francisco:

In front of the Peets' Coffee on Montgomery stands a Marine, speaking exasperatedly into his cell-phone, and consulting a blank gps hand-held.

A woman watches this for several minutes, then approaches him and says, "MARINE!"

He snaps to. "Ma'am!"

"You are lost in San Francisco. Your GPS isn't working, and the person on the other end of your communication device is an idiot! Would you like to ask directions, MARINE?"

Nothing like that. I have glass fwench doors. Double cylinder dead bolts, plus a regular door knob. Each door was 3 locks. Plus the garage door, the side door, etc.

Unfortunately, I had to do it twice. (slow learner)

Now, the front door has one key. All the rest have another and I keep that one. Anybody loses a key, I only have to change 1 door.

No other place on earth can come close to it. 600+ bars/strip joints in 3 square miles.

Some were just looking for a night-stick across the medial collateral ligament. Pain can be so real.

Umm... what part of the body is that? I fix radios for a living.

The beer was good though.

No... I suggest they "leave forthwith". Sounds nicer.

Actual definition of "fuck off" from a large unabridged dictionary about 25 years ago.

Only other 2 words I remember, are "gleet" and "retromingent".

We used to do a "word of the day" thing. Helped the less literate folks.

BTW: Did I mention that I work part time for Home Depot? For real...

Do you get an employee discount?

Of course, that would still make new power tools cost a gazillion dollars less 10%.

512 no2liberals  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 9:47:17pm

#501-Bubble Girl/ Right, you are sooo old.LOL. As for me, the older I get, the better I was.

NOT SUITABLE FOR THE CHILDREN!

Well, if that's the Rubenesque woman, then yes I would have to say that they are still alive!

519 pilots wife  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 9:54:42pm

#516 Robert D.

Actually--I live in the UK and would just about kill for a visit to Walmart.

520 no2liberals  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 9:55:37pm

seadog/ So how does a tatto hold you together?

521 seadog  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 9:56:09pm

#502 no2liberals

I was speaking for me. No 'too's, no peirces, just a 'blank canvass. Although, have nearly had some holes added.

Ok. My first tattoo was on a whim. Little bit of beer, girl (later wife) I was dating suggested it. I went along. Didn't cost much and most days I forget I have it. Nobody can ever see it unless I show them. But, it is funny and definitely an ice breaker.

She also pierced my ear. Early 80's before it was mainstream.

Second tattoo (20 yrs later) is a knotted rope around one bicep. At the time, I was a relatively young widower with 3 teens. The tattoo is a 3 twist rope (1 for each child) and a large knot (me) to hold us all together. My oldest got a matching tattoo (in a different location) to the one that her Mom had gotten 20 yrs prior.

Sarah D. (#518),

OK, now that's just wrong!

But I like it ;-)

525 no2liberals  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:00:54pm

#518-Sarah D./ No kid's around here. YIKES! Uh, I said renaissance, not Rubenesque, but thanks all the same.

Sarah @ 518

Holy Cow!

527 Londoner  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:03:07pm

TODAY the BBC news lead with this story.

That's right folks, this was considered to be very important.

Guess what was at the bottom of the news, just next to sport. The US has threatened 14 countries with sanctions if they don't stop slave trading.

So there we have it...

American guard kicks book, vs millions of people living in slavery.

Yep... looks like the BBC to me.

528 Robert D  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:03:35pm

#519 pilots wife

LOL! OK I stand (or sit) corrected. G'nite again...

529 seadog  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:04:51pm

#505 Sarah D.

Kiss your wife on the cheek for me. And HEY, tell me when you'll be in town...maybe I can meet you two in Ybor!

24th or 25th of June.

As it gets closer, I'll have a better idea of timing.

530 Sarah D.  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:04:58pm

Yikes! Sorry, but Renaissance isn't near as fun!

531 no2liberals  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:06:52pm

#521-seadog/ Nice story, thanks for the telling. I can understand your reasons very clearly. Such has not been the case with family/friends that I have, some just seem addicted to it, with 'too's on their legs/arms/backs. I've just settled for the scars that were naturally occuring. Motivation is everything.

532 Bubble Girl  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:06:52pm

#511 pilots wife

Do you get an employee discount?

You must be joking. HD was founded by 2 Jews.

(OK, folks. That was an old HD joke, deal with it.)

Actually, about 5 times a year, we get discount coupons. Not for the general public, but I can give them to whomever I want.

536 Sarah D.  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:12:04pm

#529 seadog

Email me when you know. I'd love to meet you two..but I also understand if you want a nice quiet romantic evening.

BTW - Troll alert on above thread.

Yep! That's what I call artifactually correct.

538 no2liberals  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:14:52pm

YOU were supposed to be ASLEEP!

I AM telling MOM now!

540 pilots wife  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:15:34pm

Sarah D.

Where are you in the world? I can't remember.

(It's about 0800 here and I haven't had enough coffee, yet.)

541 seadog  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:17:28pm

544 pilots wife  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:21:05pm

Goodnight, Sarah D.

#545 Sarah D.

I won't tell. It is a great piece of art... G'nite for real this time.

548 thaddeus  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 10:45:10pm

Anybody besides me glad they didn't defile the toilet by flushing this piece of shit book down it?

I mean really, who gives a rats ass if they did? They do stuff like that to the bible and American flag all the time.

549 MigueldowninMexico  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 11:02:12pm

As the thread about the Gallup poll demonstrates, this guys (the MSM) are pushing themselves into irrelevancy. 72% of Americans don't trust in them. And as they keep this treacherous, partisan and untrustworthy coverage of events, the 72% will grow bigger and bigger. They are doing it to themselves. Amazing.

550 Robert D  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 11:19:28pm

#548 thaddeus

Yes, it is OK to burn the flag, flush the Bible, spit on all that we hold sacred, but do not offend any other religion that is not founded in American beliefs...

551 Robert D  Fri, Jun 3, 2005 11:31:31pm

OK. Stopped two threads, off to bed...

552 Litvak  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 1:26:03am

from now on, no more korans should be issued to the terrorists in prisons. Let them read Newsweek.

"Bush Killer of Millions Muslims"
WTF is wrong with these idiots? Well, I guess if you believe the Kuran, you believe anything.

554 Ben B  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 3:34:14am

This could have been one of Franz Kafka's short stories.

I recall that when I first read the Koran I fell about laughing; its deity is so obviously a disembodied human ego. I couldn't decide whether the author was serious or indulging in an ironic humour. The beginning of the sura The Inner Apartments is a classic case in point:

49:1-4 — O ye who believe! Put not yourselves forward before Allah and His Messenger; but fear Allah: for Allah is He Who hears and knows all things. O ye who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak aloud to him in talk, as ye may speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds become vain and ye perceive not. Those that lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger, — their hearts has Allah tested for piety: for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward. Those who shout out to thee from without the inner apartments - most of them lack understanding.

I think that quite possibly the potential for humour in the Koran has been underestimated.

555 Ben B  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 3:37:16am

I think the detainees should be denied access to the Koran but should instead be issued with copies of Kafka's The Trial

556 Yank in the EU  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 4:31:41am

Heres a detailed article defending, in parts, the freedom of expression in regard to the Piss Christ and its author's pretensions for the desacration of Holy Catholic symbols as a work of art. Via Tim Blair

Liberal media refuses to recognize this as offensive, but drops of urine getting on the "Holy" koran through an airvent - 'oh the humanity.' This is purely and simply about the left's disdain for Western culture and its moral superiority (in the sense of Esse, not Essentia) - and about the left's resentment-driven desire to see the righteous institutions of the West dragged through the mud.

557 TotallySirius  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 4:49:00am

I still say- the soldier kicked the wrong asswipe.

558 LiveFreeOrDie  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 5:01:54am

I understand that this Koran discourse is important politically, and I even have a small amount of sympathy toward those that don't want their Holy book desecrated. But really, from any objective context this whole thing is absurd.

559 IowaInfidel  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 5:50:58am
In other confirmed incidents, water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet;

But how many got wet? HOW MANY, DAMNIT!?

Isikoff, get on this NOW! This is HUGE!

/Newsweak editor's office

560 Lightning_Man  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 5:57:17am

The MSM does not understand that to persist with this incessant drumbeat on this issue will merely foment the behavior they claim to find deplorable.

If our fine young men and women are going to be crucified for a few isolated mostly accidental incidents, I am beginning to seriously contemplate what Iron Fist says way earlier: let's really be guilty. Let's actually destroy the Koran and drop atom bombs on any Arab nation that doesn't ally with us and / or disband their military.

They (the MSM) need to watch what they're doing or it will be as the Japanese purportedly said in WWII: "I believe all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant."

561 westoner  Sat, Jun 4, 2005 6:54:25am

With the Boston Tea Party on people’s minds, perhaps the up coming 4th of July should be celebrated with a public "koran desecration". Not just as a protest against what that book promotes, but at the media who willing cover up on behalf of islam, and who are effectively aiding and abetting the spread of it.

This perfectly legal act of protest would force the hand of all those in the media, government and opposition who, for various reasons, want to put the koran on a pedestal within the US.

The down side of course is that the media would jump at the chance to use the protest as a propaganda weapon to stir up violent attacks against the US.

So to preserve American and allied lives and to deprive the collaborating media of their propaganda victory, it might not be such a good idea.
