Moving too far out of the state probably won’t be an option for me. But good to hear not everyone’s obsessed with those degrees. The local library doesn’t even seem to want me volunteering with ‘em. :/
In a lot of areas around here, tiny town libraries are the connexion to the outside world. The state pays for access to medical, historical, geographic, agricultural, and other databases free for use by libraries. In many towns around here the library is the only Internet connexion. Hunting and fishing licenses are obtained through public libraries (really). Librarians were all trained as ACA Navigators when that program was run up to help people apply for health insurance on the Federal exchange.
Thus the state is more interested in “competent” rather than what letters appear in your degree.

Well, I can alphabetize with the best of them, and have been known to shout at people about what books they should be reading (“The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers! “Throne of the Crescent Moon” by Saladin Ahmed! “Binti” by Nnedi Okorafor!), so I’m sure I’d be a shoo-in.

Despotic regimes always start this way: “Protecting” the people, whether it be from some outside “evil” or “from themselves.” Some will take power directly, but the most insidious ones are those that convince the people to surrender power willingly. Those survive by guilting the people, holding up that surrender of authority as a shield against any objections to their actions.
Wikileaks Twitter feed is going all-in on CT that Saudi Arabia broke off ties with Qatar after document dump of Hillary Clinton’s stuff showing Saudi Arabia and Qatar jointly fund ISIS. Meanwhile, they are also claiming something something big donation to Clinton Foundation by Qatar so Clinton must be involved in today’s events.
A tracert from my router to Wikileaks shows a time of nearly ten seconds and goes through Russian routers.

Do you want to fly with Air Traffic Control provided by the lowest bidder?
So, I wake up here in Europe and what’s one of the first things I see on the news? A major diplomatic crisis in the Gulf States that’s now risen to the level of expulsion of Qatari diplomats and nationals from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, and Egypt’s getting into the act as well.
And of course, CENTCOM is located in Qatar as well. This is certainly a fine pickle, now isn’t it?
Gotta love their “privatization of air traffic control” bait and switch plan. It won’t cost anything…except the loans that businesses will take out to “build” this new “non-profit.” And by “build,” what they really mean is this “non-profit” will purchase the existing infrastructure using government-backed loans. Then the director of the “non-profit” will have a “fiduciary responsibility” to it. So a non-profit that will be expected to turn a profit, no doubt for the businesses who will have to “pay back” those loans from the government. Which means your ticket prices are gonna soar as this “non-profit” gouges the fuck out of the airlines.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region. They say Qatar backs militant groups including so-called Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda, which Qatar has denied.
The Saudi state news agency SPA said Riyadh had closed its borders, severing land, sea and air contact with the tiny peninsula of Qatar.
Qatar called the decision “unjustified” and with “no basis in fact”.
The unprecedented move is being seen as a significant split between powerful Gulf countries, who are also close US allies.
It comes in the context of increased tensions between Gulf countries and their near-neighbour Iran. The Saudi statement accused Qatar of collaborating with Iranian-backed militias.
So the Saudis are claiming that Qatar is supporting both ISIS and al Qaeda (Sunnis) and Iranian-sponsored militias (Shiite)?
Can you say “bullshit”?

re: #36 freetoken
Rarely can idioms translate so easily.
I looked it up using my Google Fu and there is an Egyptian Arabic proverb for situations such as these: عريان الطيز يحب تأميز. which means, “someone with their ass exposed likes to criticize”.
Continuing on with my assertion that the rise of Trump represents the existential and religious crises in our society, I’m digging once more into the origins of Christianity… and finding I am appreciating more and more that early Christian thinking was more about marrying Jewish ideas with what I’ll call a Walmart-version of Stoicism.
Now contemporary fundamentalist apologists seem to go all nuts when one brings up stoicism, but I think that alone is telling. Put simply, Seneca hits too close to home, touches too nearly the heart of Pauline teachings, and that makes fundamentalists uncomfortable.
I have asserted here before that the Gospels are variants of the writing down of plays. That is, the plays were not written first by a playwright, but rather that the displaced Jews who were of a mystical bent acted out their beliefs in plays, which eventually became the Advent and Easter/Passover plays that Christians around the world made central to their religious practice. That is why, indeed, the Gospels lend themselves so well to these plays, because that is how they started. Or rather the compilation that became the four Gospels started, them all being variants of each other.
Richard Carrier noted last year that it was likely Marcion and his opponents who crafted the first canons, making their choices of inclusion based as much on politics as anything else.
Thus the entire basis of Christianity is itself a product of politics - a way of finding consensus among disparate groups. Once enough small groups had coalesced around an acceptable compromise, the losing groups were winnowed out. This was well before Nicea.
So when today we see fundamentalists in this country rally around Trump, even though many people may think this an odd thing, it has plenty of historical precedence (even in American history, e.g. slavery, much less medieval or ancient history.)
The need to be secure overwhelms the need for accuracy or consistency. This is why so many Christian teachings are indeed self-contradictory (see even the Nicene creed.) Creeds are political creations to get a group together; creeds are not exercises in logic.
Continuing on: the reason words are treated as magical is because of the power of knowledge. Knowledge is power, as the old saying goes, and writing is how to transfer knowledge across space-time.
For both the religious leaders returning from Babylon to the levant, and a few centuries later for the diaspora Jews of the 1st century AD, the need to compete with the writing of the Greek and and then Roman world was strong. It has been noted by many that the emergence of “Scripture” accompanies secular writings.
So today, after almost two centuries of critically dismantling Scriptures by the (increasingly atheistic) academics, the religious faithful are boxed in: on one side the physical and biological sciences, and on the other side the textual and historical criticisms of various Scriptures.
For anyone wanting to engage with the modern world, this brings about the direct conflict between modernity and traditional religions.
This is what drives our contemporary social angsts, worldwide. Whether the fundamentalist grifters in America backing Trump, or sectarian violence in Islam, or the problem of fundamentalist nationalist Hinduism, and so forth… the key existential problem is how to keep one’s beliefs in light of the modern world which ruthlessly wants to deconstruct every belief into molecular human initiative and emotion.
If modernity does succeed in truly decreasing the role of religion, then the scale of mourning will be titanic, given the death of people as well as beliefs going without salve.
This is the problem of Earth, 2017.

Can you say “bullshit”?
Unfortunately, while the reek of bullshit is unmistakable here, ISTR that taking action against “Iranian-sponsored militias” is the Saudis’ main excuse for their bloody, inhumane and ongoing campaign against Yemen. I think there is also the issue of which puppet/stooge government the KSA wants in power, but they always cite Iranian “meddling” at fault for whatever atrocities they feel excusing.
Only the main difference is that there aren’t any US troops in Yemen. Like I said last thread, SRSLY? WTF???

Maybe. Daniel Larison at TAC linked to a couple of analyses last Friday, though I don’t think he (or anybody) expected a diplomatic crisis to blow up this quickly. It’s complex (like most things in the Arab world), but the short version seems to be:
1. The Saudis are flexing their political/military muscles
2. They are making Iran the Designated Enemy
3. Some of KSA’s regional partners (like Qatar, and, more importantly, Pakistan) aren’t thrilled with pushing item 2.
4. Qatar is first in line to get pushback re item 3.
Oh, and a subtext here (at least AFAICT) is that the US isn’t going to be of any serious help here, as they think Trump is an idiot. An easily-played idiot. And an easily-played idiot who will swallow any BS line about the Great Persian Boogeyman.

Science is about how we came about. Religion is about why we were created. A lot of people get the two concepts intermingled.

50 years ago today:
Operation Focus
Operation Focus (Hebrew: מבצע מוקד, Mivtza Moked) was the opening airstrike by Israel at the start of the Six-Day War in 1967. It is sometimes referred to as “Sinai Air Strike”. At 07:45 on June 5, 1967, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) under Maj. Gen. Mordechai Hod launched a massive airstrike that destroyed the majority of the Egyptian Air Force on the ground. By noon, the Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian Air Forces, with about 450 aircraft, were destroyed. It was also very successful in disabling 18 airfields in Egypt, hindering Egyptian Air Force operations for the duration of the war, and remains one of the most successful air attack campaigns in military history.
Fewer than 200 Israeli aircraft took part in the strikes, of which 19 were lost. Worth noting: Not a single US made combat plane participated in the attacks, on either side. The IDF had used US planes from third country sources in earlier years but these, P-51s and B-17s, had long since been retired. All of Israel’s 1967 aircraft were of French origin. The first US jets, A-4 Skyhawks, arrived that fall.

The whole Qatar thing is turning into a mess lickety-split:
Some of the Middle East’s biggest airlines are suspending flights to Qatar as a major diplomatic crisis roils the region.
Etihad, Emirates and FlyDubai on Monday announced they are halting all flights in and out of Doha, the Qatari capital, starting Tuesday morning. The news comes after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt said they have broken off relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
The UAE government said it’s closing its airspace and seaports for Qataris and “banning all Qatari means of transportation.”
Qatar Airways, the country’s flag carrier, didn’t respond to requests seeking comment.
The Qatari government expressed its dismay at its neighbors’ moves to isolate it, calling the decision “unjustified and based on baseless allegations.”
There are around 40 flights a day to Doha from the UAE.
The sudden halt on air travel to and from Qatar is the latest blow to carriers in the region.
Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad were among 10 airlines on which the Trump administration imposed tough new restrictions in March. The carriers are now required to prevent passengers flying from their Middle East hubs to the United States from carrying almost all types of electronic devices in the cabin.
Monday’s crackdown on flights is part of a broader set of restrictions on travel involving Qatar and its citizens.
The UAE government said it’s giving Qatari diplomats 48 hours and Qatari residents and visitors 14 days to leave the UAE “for precautionary security reasons.” UAE citizens are also banned from traveling or transiting through Qatar.

At the risk of making broad generalizations, the Old World (with the exception of Russia, it seems) seems to be becoming more secular, in that religion is now more a social event rather than an abiding feature of daily life. The USA, meanwhile, seems divided between a largely secular urban populace and a largely religious rural and small town populace, neither of which seem to understand the other.
An anecdote now: I grew up on Long Island in a nominally Protestant home, but my mom was Lutheran and my dad Presbyterian and neither seemed inclined to go to church. So I never actually read the Bible until I was a teenager. I had friends who were Catholic, Jewish, Christian Scientist, and church-goers. We never talked religion. It was a personal thing that maybe only came up when Ann came to school with an ash smudge on her forehead or Daniel stayed home for Yom Kippur services.
Then I moved to Wyoming after college. As a reporter I had to interview some couple for some now-forgotten reason, and their question to me left me momentarily stunned. “Are you a Christian?” they asked.
It was the first time in my life that anyone felt it necessary to ask me my religion, and i soon realized that my attitude about it was definitely not shared in the vast interior of the USA.
(I said I was, by the way, as I judged it would be necessary to continue the interview productively.)

Since I was prattling about manuscripts…
James Tabor has a blog post in which he gives his summary of first century ossuary inscriptions in the possession of Israeli institutions:
The Names in the Talpiot Tombs: Considering all the Evidence
He printed out the ones of interest to his gig:
I’ve always been quite suspicious of him, in part because of his association with Jacobovici, who I think has too many agendas and they color his material.
Still, it’s worth noting that Tabor did provide this compilation of names on ossuaries. It doesn’t seem to me to materially change his assertions, but some people might be of interest in these things.
Mostly American Christians are taught that Tabor/Jacobovici are heretical. To me they simply seem opportunistic - there is more than one way to skin the religion cat.

50 years ago today:
Operation FocusFewer than 200 Israeli aircraft took part in the strikes, of which 19 were lost.

I sort of feel that way about Tabor’s fellow NC professor Bart Ehrman. Though I can appreciate Ehrman’s task of bringing Biblical criticism to the Bible belt, I still think he’s too hung up on agendas.

Many Christians are uncomfortable with the likelihood that their religion did not spring forth fully formed from words of Jesus and his disciples, like Aphrodite from Zeus’ head, but took several centuries to develop, as different theological and political factions fought for dominance. Even less appealing is accepting Christians borrowed ideas from Greek and Roman philosophy.

Israeli tanks are advancing. Egypt contacts its Soviet military advisers, who tell them “Just fall back and give ground, it worked for us!”. The Israeli advance continues, they are across the Suez canal, again the advice from the Soviet generals: “Just fall back and give more ground!”
Soon the Israeli tanks are just outside Cairo, again, the Egyptians appeal for advice and are told “Just fall back and give ground. Don’t worry, soon it will be winter!”

Since we seem to be in a lull for the moment news-wise, let me fill you in on my own news bulletin.
I have officially “aged out” out of working in China, and will be leaving at the end of the month. Apparently, Big Daddy Xi has told everyone that the regulations must be followed, and the regs say age 60 is the maximum age for the work visa. I got a year’s reprieve because I turned 61 in January, and could finish out the year. But no such reprieve seems forthcoming for the following school year.
I want to stay, and my school wants me to stay. There is a slim chance I could qualify as a “visiting scholar” and get a different kind of visa, but whether I get it or not, I still have to get out of Dodge when my current res permit expires on the 30th. Like in 25 days.
Finals are approaching, and I still need to give those and hand in my grades. I’ve got to pack up the stuff I want to keep, and get rid of the stuff I don’t, and meanwhile say goodbye to my students and friends.
It sucks, because I was planning to stay one more year, and then leave for greener pastures. Now instead of a year to prepare, I have barely a month.
I have already begin the dreaded job search routine. This will be the first time I’ve been unemployed in 40 years, and if I had way more money in the bank, I could just retire early. But, as matters stand, I have to find a job definitely by summer’s end. I’m not especially worried, as I have loads of experience and the willingness to relocate most anywhere, but the uncertainty of finding gainful employment at age 61 still preys on my mind. If all else fails, I may need to start my own business or consultancy.
In the interim, I’ll be living with my kids in the USA, so you’ll probably see more of me during the normal American waking hours beginning next month.

I remember Obama saying that “ISIS is not an existential threat to America”. Which is correct: they are not threatening our existence, like nuclear war or global warming does.

A federal lawsuit filed against Henrico County Sheriff Michael Wade was recently settled in a closely watched case involving an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who sued after he was held in the Henrico Jail for immigration authorities beyond his scheduled release for drunken driving. The terms of the settlement remain confidential, both parties say, but the attorney representing immigrant Jaime S. Alfaro-Garcia said Virginia localities are “now on notice” regarding the issue of holding jailed immigrants on detainers issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Immigration attorney Jacob Tingen said jail officials in Virginia “should review their detention policies to ensure they don’t violate the constitutional rights of both citizens and immigrants.”
“We’re prepared to bring similar cases in the future if necessary,” Tingen added. “Just because you’re not here with lawful status doesn’t mean you surrender (constitutional) rights or due process.”

The key element of any mass shooting is catching people by surprise. I’ve read many CMOH citations where the soldier or Marine in question captured up to whole platoons of enemy simply by catching them by surprise.
Do I really have to hear Trump’s whiny voice for the next four years? My early 30’s deserve better than that.

There are a couple that have been verified. It’s not the old Wild West. The problem is that there isn’t a check box on the forms police submit to the FBI that says “crime prevented by lawful gun owner”
The data is not collected.

Anyone / maybe everyone trained up by professionals will tell you that. And it’s such a muddle when completely unreasonable thinking has to be gone through like it has relevance. Reminds me of climate debate. On the upside we do have literally innumerable incidents where folks with guns tucked away avoided or fled the danger. Called cops and did not pull the gun. But we can not count on forbearance and wisdom from untrained people armed or not.
In the era of soft target weapon of opportunity attacks we have to think through how to get away if we can, hide if we can’t run and still live if we can’t hide. So many places a gun is no help anyway. Bus. Train. Crowd. Texas car dealerships apparently.//
Maybe it’s too soon to snark that incident. But I’m looking at being out in public and on public transit differently.
Is it time to think/teach personal safety stuff like “how fast can I run with my kid?” Or emergency stop the subway between stations or not? Response time is much better at stations.

re: #168 MsJ
You know what’s so weird to me? The N word never, ever crosses my mind. If some random black asshole cuts in front of my car, I’ll scream out ASSHOLE! The concept of color simply never comes into my thoughts. Calling someone a House or Field Negro never enters my mind. Ever. If someone else says it I might go, yeah, ok (which is bad enough), but as something that sits in my realm of consciousness (or unconsciousness) it’s just not there.
What strikes me about Maher is that this was something that just came out; an extemporaneous joke. But doesn’t that mean that’s “a thing” in his mind? To me it’s no different than Cramer (Michael someone or other) screaming out the N word at some random asshole at his stand up gig. That shit either lives in your thoughts or it doesn’t.
It’s so much more rampant that any white person (like me, at least) can imagine. And it’s not something we (white people) could ever do a “walk a mile in his shoes”.
It’s so damned sad it makes me want to cry.
Yeah, that phrase slipped out of Maher’s mouth very easily.
I know on thing, I am in no way invested in Bill Maher. He’s an arrogant ass.

Old ground, but it’s a new day I guess. CCW safety, marksmanship, legalities, and of course sensible tactics each take time to learn at all. Then more time to habituate. Then more time to maintain. Refresh. Pick 100 people that carry. Then study their training or more likely lack of it.

I’m not sure it would make a difference in this country.

To be fair, standard training for law enforcement is to run into an active shooter situation, at least since Columbine.

It’s something of a filter in the permitting process (true as of 2001). Keeps the wrong citizens from carrying.
Re: Firearms training, not many civilians have tactical firearms training, such as ballistic awareness (being aware of what is behind your target) or blue-on-blue awareness.
I think there have been a number of incidents in the US where people with tactical firearms training never fired a shot, but reverted into a mode where they are prepared protect themselves and people around them.
That’s my major beef with the ammosexuals, the notion that if you have a gun, it’s easy to use it. But it isn’t. You need marksmanship, you need to know where to shoot, you need to know when to shoot, and most importantly, when not to shoot.

Exactly.
All the talk about CCW stopping mass shooters ignores the cost/benefit equation. If one CCW stopped one mass shooting a year, does it make up for the 30,000+ other deaths caused by firearms?
Many, here, know that I have a “thing” for self-defense as a civil right of a free person.
As is usual with me, and I think a lot of other people, reproductive rights are self-defense, abortion is self-defense.
I don’t see the problem. Why the two subjects, guns and repro rights, are the sole property of two different political parties is beyond me.

I agree. Same with Christina Aguilera. Both have spectacular voices but do far too many runs, IMHO.
Maybe less emotion helps, a hard boiled intellectual peek for a minute.
I found out that special teams train on buses and trains and aircraft physically. There are mock and real aircraft cabins at some training facilities. But the cop that first rolls up or gets caught up in a public incident is not gonna be one of those guys. (Sorry ladies few of those teams yet include women). So when we ponder what it takes at an incident to “help” you see how little civilians have in common with police. How unlikely an intersection of skills will work right given even trained people that did not train together like the teams you need.
What’s more likely? When people hide out maybe one of them has a gun and training. What’s the best? GTFO with everyone else. Duh.

In my world, the world of my father and other family members who are gun nuts, not one has ever fired a weapon in self-defense. They are also not trigger happy. There are rules and they are strictly followed. Not even a toy gun is pointed at a living creature.

I have that deeply ingrained in my spine, never point anything resembling a gun at a target you do not intend to kill, and that’s from the air rifle practice in high school.
Then I have bits and pieces from friends and acquaintances which make me unpleasant to play FPS’es (first-person-shooter games) with.
I haven’t been in the military, but I’m prepared to serve if the embassy contacts me because the panic button has been pressed.

That one screams of lack of ballistic awareness. Your bullet may pass though your target and you are in a pressurized tube at a significant distance from the ground. Although experiments show that you are not as likely to have an explosive decompression as a result of puncturing the fuselage, it is a possibility.
And don’t get me started on the wiring in an aircraft, some of which carry significant power. Now, in-flight fires gives people in the know quality creeps.

I went to a raucous early Trump rally in southern NH and found a parking lot filled with Suburbans and Escalades. The audience looked like a mix of real estate agents, contractors, and bankers. There was a smattering of camo, but mostly gaudy red-white-and blue clothing items. Following the London Bridge attack, it would be really nice if someone in a position of authority pointed out that these types of attacks are crimes not much different than mass shootings; and that the way to deal with them is to treat them accordingly. Sadly, at least here in the US, the response is going to be to frame this as a war of civilizations, because reason, nuance, and rationality are in short supply.

Easy to get a job here doing that, especially with your experience. Prague is the biggest market, naturally, but there are other towns too. Brno is good, Ostrava needs English teachers as well. Olomouc, not far from Ostrava, is a college town - and I don’t know if the university there has any native English speakers for teaching.

Maybe. Daniel Larison at TAC linked to a couple of analyses last Friday, though I don’t think he (or anybody) expected a diplomatic crisis to blow up this quickly. It’s complex (like most things in the Arab world), but the short version seems to be:

Please excuse my LGF campaign against Larison, and by extension, the whole of the-american-conservative-com.
I have one [old] link, for which I’ve seen no contradiction, nor have I looked. He is a ‘proud member of the league of the south.’
That, plus the linked essay, makes me doubt his analyses, and, indeed, his ability to analyze.

If you know your subject well, and you enter the classroom with a plan, you’ve got it made. The trick is to learn when it’s OK to deviate from the plan to follow a particular thread in a class discussion, but not follow it so long as to go off a tangent.

No prob, ww: your attitude is completely understandable: I always carefully filter what Larison writes: I too recall the “League of the South” reference (which he hasn’t mentioned of late): but when it comes to foreign-policy stuff, for whatever reason, I find I agree with him as often as not. Of course, he’s a determined “non-interventionist” - and flogs that position, along with the rest of his FP hobbyhorses, to death and beyond sometimes - but the stuff he aggregates isn’t always ideological BS. Failing that, would they be willing to accept a recent college graduate from a Chinese university? I know a few hundred or so. The tricky part would be to arrange the H1B visa for the teacher.

They’ve been getting teachers directly from China. I think that’s the problem. They don’t know what to do with American students, particularly those in low income schools who aren’t necessarily the most well-mannered.

Mylan chairman: Drug pricing critics ought to go copulate with themselves
According to the former employees, who requested anonymity citing nondisclosure agreements and fears of retaliation, Mylan expected outrage over its price hiking ways and planned to simply ignore it. In fact, the former executives revealed that after employees repeatedly warned about the potential for public counterblasts, the company’s chairman, Robert Coury was unmoved.
His response was summarized in this charming passage:
Mr. Coury replied that he was untroubled. He raised both his middle fingers and explained, using colorful language, that anyone criticizing Mylan, including its employees, ought to go copulate with themselves. Critics in Congress and on Wall Street, he said, should do the same. And regulators at the Food and Drug Administration? They, too, deserved a round of anatomically challenging self-fulfillment.
Coury, who received around $160 million in compensation last year from Mylan, declined to discuss the matter.

Mexico City, in 1491, had indoor plumbing. Flush toilets, hot and cold running water. Aqueducts and irrigation. They had iceboxes (runners brought it down from the mountains, daily). Trade routes connected Aztec and Inca empires, extending as far north as what’s now Missouri. The Inca had terraced farms that used minimal water because it went through multiple levels (no runoff). Inca fabrics were so fine nobody in Europe could match them to this day. Inca gold-work techniques so fine Europeans needed 100 years to reverse engineer the methods.
Plus, of course… cocaine, tequila, chocolate and popcorn.

My favorite Obama CT is that Frank Davis is Obama’s real father which would you know make the birther BS moot.
My favorite is that Obama is the son of Jimmie Hendrix. Stupid because it would negate the birther issue. Also, if it was true, why would he want to hide that fact? “I’m the son of Jimmie Hendrix” would have been the greatest campaign slogan ever. The Republicans probably wouldn’t have bothered to run a candidate against him.

I don’t know tons about the central Ohio native peoples, but my understanding is the Adena native peoples had more going for it than teepees and roaming around. They had actual constructed houses made of tree limbs and bark and lived in fairly permanent villages. They had tools and fabrics and lived well above an animal lifestyle. And this was 1000 to 200 BC.

One thing I noticed on 9-11: People who were right there, in Manhattan and DC, were much less likely to panic and over-react than those whose involvement was entirely through media coverage. Hell, people went completely apeshit in Lubbock that day and I remember spending some time telling them to get a grip. It was very bad, unprecedented in fact, but the basic strength of the nation was unaffected and most of us were unaffected personally and could go on with our work and our daily lives.

All this shit that’s about to drop on him. I have no doubt it’s bad for him. But the Republicans won’t do a god damn thing. No matter how bad it is.

EDIT: When I got back down and read it again it sounded like I was aiming at you Backwoods. The tweet people, the tweet.

You’re right the Republicans in Congress will do nothing. They will however stand by and watch Trump get cut down.
They are in the classic rock and hard place position. If they act like they want Trump gone his angry base will take it out on them. Why? Same base as Trump is what they count on for votes but hope they can keep somewhat in control once in office.
And they won’t do anything to stop the Democrats and special investigations because I have a felling they see he needs to go and it all needs to be done. I think they hope enough dirt comes out the base they fear but count on sees it too.
Do it for the country? Not until whatever they do does it for them first. GOP ass saving is in fashion.

if a “pre-emptive vasectomy” is your way of taking some personal responsibility for avoiding an otherwise unintended pregnancy, i dont give a rats ass why you think you’re doing it

Well, those RTs escalated pretty quickly. Thanks for all your kind feedback. The important lesson in all this is that you should eat here.

He’s just glad he doesn’t look (or taste) like a flake of hay.

So that’s what happens when you take your lizard to the Aquarium Of The Pacific
I can’t help it. I always think of Kellyanne Conway’s husband as Georgeanne when I hear him mentioned in the news.

Had to google it:
Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, California,
I get it.

Has the same posture and look my dog does does when I am making her do something she doesn’t really want to. Like bathing, or de-shedding, or being examined by the vet. She will put up with it but as soon as you are done she will run off 10 or 15 feet and shake it off as if to say ‘glad that’s over’

Yes but we have gun control in Canada.
And far less crazy people.
Trudeau was being monitored from the shore I’m certain.

re: #416 Charles Johnson
Just used Tor to go to Chuck’s site, and it reported that he’s using sneaky-ass browser fingerprinting techniques to identify visitors. Never go there without Tor.
Is he using Flash cookies (the kind that can’t be deleted w/out some serious System-Registry-fu) or is it a nasty JavaScript injection into the cookies folder that can’t be deleted (but that can be blocked by Ghostery or NoScript)?

I support douche bags like this getting a vasectomy.
