Michael Savage Banned in Britain
Now included on Britain’s list of “undesirables” banned from entering the country (along with a host of Islamic militants and hate preachers): Don Black of Stormfront and radio screamer Michael Savage.

No doubt Savage will rant and rave and get all self-righteous. I've only heard him a couple of times and this is my take how he'll react. He'll cloak himself in a mantle of pride for his outspokeness.
I, however, would be ashamed, discgraced, and self-reflective if I had a COUNTRY proclaim me "unwanted."
9 | Occasional Reader Tue, May 5, 2009 9:10:56am |
Distasteful as I find Michael Savage, I think his inclusion on a no-entry list that's primarily made up of jihadists and the occasional neo-Nazi to be, well, overkill.
10 | KingKenrod Tue, May 5, 2009 9:11:50am |
I don't want him in my country either.
Savage doesn't rise to the level of any of the other scum on the list, though.
11 | Anthony (Los Angeles) Tue, May 5, 2009 9:12:01am |
Savage annoys the hell out of me, but banning him and putting him in the same category as Islamic fascists is a bit much.
12 | Default_UserID Tue, May 5, 2009 9:12:16am |
This will only increase Savage's ratings. Being the psychological train wreck that he is, one can easily predict his opening rant for tonight's show which will probably include a call for the immediate carpet bombing of the UK with tactical nukes.

re: #6 Czarny_Smok
Does anyone really listen to Savage anymore?
I would think so. A few years ago my local radio station dropped Michael Reagen and picked up Savage. I do not listen that time slot anymore. I expect that if no one was listening to him the station would have brought back Reagan.

Again, this is a tough call. US free speech allows both, but both the execrable Black and Savage aren't in the US. They're in the UK, where the free speech laws are different.
It would be nice if all the world had the same respect for free speech that the US does, but that's simply not the case. They have instead sought to ban their presence, even though one can just as easily obtain what they have to say online. Their physical presence in the UK would actually make it easier to fight their hate speech and inane statements with more statements - shedding light on their racism and anti-Semitism (in Black's case) and stupidity in Savage's case. Instead, they'll slink around the corners and fringes by getting their message spread online.

It's also good to see this guy on the Britian's Least Wanted list:
FRED WALDRON PHELPS SNR & SHIRLEY PHELPS-ROPER
American pastor and leading spokesman of Westboro Baptist Church. Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by fostering hatred that might lead to inter-community violence in the UK.The 79-year-old and his daughter are barred for their anti-gay comments. Both have picketed the funerals of Aids victims and have claimed the deaths of American soldiers are a punishment for US tolerance of homosexuality.
There's a bunch of other sweeties like that on the list. It's a veritable rouges gallery of racists, jerkoffs, and dipshits.

Not to Britain: The opposite of Muslim in not Jewish.
You don't HAVE to have a Jew (that no one's ever even heard of) to add PC BALANCE to your list.
In the comments to David's recent post on Jacqui Smith's list of people denied access to Britain, Not A Sheep has pointed out an example of BBC bias that achieves a sort of holy perfection.
Take a look at this BBC effort to inform the public: Who is on UK 'least wanted' list?. What do Abdullah Qadri Al Ahdal, Yunis Al Astal, Safval Hijazi and the wonderfully named Wadgy Abd El Hameid Mohamed Ghoneim all have in common? That's right. They are all preachers. Of something or other. Mike Guzovsky, however, is a Jewish militant.
Oops, sorry. I got that wrong. Amir Siddique is the fourth preacher-of-no-particular-message. Wadgy Abd El Hameid Mohamed Ghoneim is actually a "speaker and writer". He speaks and writes about we know not what.
As Not A Sheep says:
...there are eight Muslim "extremists" on the list (four of whom are described as preachers) but only one is identified as a follower of Islam, there is one Jew on the list and his religion is identified in the first word of his description, the American pastor's religion is not directly named but as he is a "pastor" of a "Baptist church" that is not too tricky to deduce.
So my question to the BBC is this: why is it relevant to identify the religions of the one Jew and the one Christian (couple) on the list but in the majority of cases to leave the religion of Muslims on the list unidentified?

You hit the nail on the head. We forget that we protect freedom of speech to a greater degree then any other nation. This is what happens when you criminalize actions and thoughts into things like hate crimes or hate speech. Sometimes the majority doesn't get it right. A crime is a crime. Making it a hate crime doesn't really make something like murder any worse...it might explain intent, but the result is the same.
Freedom of speech needs to be protected everywhere.... The Brits are more concerned with feelings then with freedom...no cartoons either.

Yes. This is from the Chicago Tribune regarding that:
Michael Savage, autism comment
Savage made the remarks last week during a broadcast of his radio show, sparking a firestorm among autism groups. The host said autism is the "illness du jour" and children do not have a father around to tell them to stop acting like a "putz."
"You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is," according to a copy of the broadcast captured on mediamatters.org. "In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is."

Yes, it's his belief that a certain portion of the increase in diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders is the result of an expansion of the diagnostic criteria; in essence, the term has become so broad as to be meaningless. He compared it to describing myopia as a Blindness Spectrum Disorder.

I would hope that isn't the reason for putting him on the banned list though.

"Israel has to work for a two state-solution. You're not going to like my saying this, but not build more settlements, dismantle existing outposts and allow Palestinians freedom of movement ... and access to economic opportunity," Biden told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Biden also said the Palestinian Authority "must combat terror and incitement against Israel."
[Link: www.haaretz.com...]
I am so sick of this. Israel has ALWAYS committed itself to a 2 state solution. We can debate whether that is suicidal or not later, but to date, no one in the Israeli government has "Officially" back away from that "negotiable" concept. But the Palestinians have NEVER stopped the violence or incitement against Jews and Israel. Some of these morons really should take a history course.
Also worthy of note: Israel has often attempted to give Palestinians "freedom of movement ... and access to economic opportunity". Every attempt has had to be ended after the Palis used those opportunities to launch terrorist attacks. That might not have been reason enough had the Palestinian public condemned the attacks or even remained silent about them. What they did, however, was to celebrate the murder of Jews. Well if they want to identify with murders, they can pay the price for that.

This is very true. It seems that many don't understand when he's being serious or being in schtick mode, where he says the more outrageous things. But the show is about him and his personality, and his view on current events.
Don Black and the others, they are not radio show hosts: they never go into 'schtick' mode and rant and rail with tongue in cheek, or have too many drinks and get silly. The things they say they believe in all the time.

Took a lot of flack for that.
They have expanded the definition; it's now Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Different people with autism can have very different symptoms. Health care providers think of autism as a “spectrum” disorder, a group of disorders with similar features. One person may have mild symptoms, while another may have serious symptoms. But they both have an autism spectrum disorder.
Currently, the autism spectrum disorder category includes:Autistic disorder (also called “classic” autism)
Asperger syndrome
Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (or atypical autism).
That how ever doesn't really expand "classic" autism, but now the short name "autism" includes others not previous called "autistic."

While I hate the message that those knuckleheads "preach", they do have a right to preach it. I have a really bad feeling about all the laws in some states that are being passed to keep them away from funerals. Those same laws can and most likely will be added to and changed in the years to come to ban pretty much anything the current party in power wants them to ban. That and hate speech laws are going to be the downfall of the 1st amendment in this country.
I think the freedom riders pretty much kept those idiots at bay and away from military funerals. I know they did here in New England.

I don't listen to Mr. Savage, but I like his Rockstar Energy Drink. Are they going to ban it too? Plus - he is over the top, but LOTS of radio commenters on all sides rant and rave.
My issue is with banning people for "hate." It is easy to say "hate MIGHT lead to crime." Lollipops might lead to crime. Cracks in the sidewalk might lead to crime. Cats might lead to crime. Might gives one a ton of wiggle room.
There are a number of people on the list I think are haters, but it's not a crime. Oh, wait. I'm thinking like an American again. This is a reminder that we are the only country with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

It is good that we give people like Savage the opportunity to let off some steam, even if it is filled with bile and nonsense. The alternative is to ban him and give him a reason to fight.

It's got to be a "disorder!"
There is good data for the "spectrum" label. However it is over used, like ADD, ADHD.
Part of the issue is "labeled" kids make schools eligible for federal funding for "special needs," it's easier to medicate than raise kids, and a lot of other factors.

Exactly. Which is why I wrote that creating lists and prohibiting speech, however vile we may think it, can be a road leading to dark places.
The First Amendment doesn't need to protect the speech with which we agree; it needs to protect the speech we find offensive. If it doesn't do that, an administration or Congress can decide that my freedom of speech needs to be curtailed, as it doesn't fit their definition of "acceptable".

Took a lot of flack for that.
Well, when the certain portion is 99%, I can understand the flak, even if it may be right to some much smaller degree. (I don't have any experience to say, though)

re: #155 JohnnyReb
While I hate the message that those knuckleheads "preach", they do have a right to preach it. I have a really bad feeling about all the laws in some states that are being passed to keep them away from funerals. Those same laws can and most likely will be added to and changed in the years to come to ban pretty much anything the current party in power wants them to ban. That and hate speech laws are going to be the downfall of the 1st amendment in this country.
I think the freedom riders pretty much kept those idiots at bay and away from military funerals. I know they did here in New England.
The Patriot Guard does a great service to the grieving families. More than just blocking the protestors, they give the families some moral support while they are grieving and under attack by Phelps.
While necessary, the Patriot Guard can be disruptive too. One of their methods is to rev their engines to drown out the shouts from Westboro protesters. Its better than allowing the family to hear Phelp's hateful words, but its hardly the peaceful funeral our soldiers deserve. Phelps needs to be kept away from funerals. Its not an appropriate place for a protest.
BTW, from what I've read Westboro protests in the Northeast have been mild by comparison to those in the midwest. The closer it is to their home, the more members they can bring.

re: #163 blangwort
I sometimes listen to Savage to remind myself what dogmatic hatred sounds like.
I can understand that it might frighten some people. But banning it isn't the answer. Will they ban him from the Internet too? I'd like to see how that would work.
It is good that we give people like Savage the opportunity to let off some steam, even if it is filled with bile and nonsense. The alternative is to ban him and give him a reason to fight.
No, the real danger is not Michael Savage. It's the censors. Today it's a hate monger. Tomorrow, it could be you.
DING!
Banning is not the answer.
Depending on the source you engage and discredit, or ignore and they become irrelevant. Banning them gives them the "legitimacy" of being "too dangerous", and makes them forbidden fruit.

Here, our newspapers control themselves.
The government in the UK can close down a paper if it really wants too. It can censor the news broadcasts. They have many of the same rights we do here, but they don't have an individual's right in mind all the time like here. The UK government can delve into someone's private life much more than here. They have a Big Brother camera system set up were most of the inhabited parts of the country are under video surveillance. And, newer technologies allow these cameras to be interactive now. I remember reading about a guy in a park that was littering or doing some other stupid behavior. They guy monitoring the camera sent a message out telling him to stop. Can you imagine that here? As an American who was raised to treasure (and defend) the Constitution - including the First Amendment of course - I'm a little troubled by the idea of banning speech (with the obvious caveats of course). I know the UK is a different animal, but when we start creating lists of people who should be banned because of their speech, we start down a road that leads to very dark places.
Agreed, but we are entitled to have one standard for our citizens and another for non-citizens. In fact, doing so is prudent, IMO. That's in general. In this particular case:

Now included on Britain’s list of “undesirables” banned from entering the country (along with a host of Islamic militants and hate preachers): Don Black of Stormfront and radio screamer Michael Savage.
...
MICHAEL ALAN WEINER (ALSO KNOWN AS MICHAEL SAVAGE)
Controversial daily radio talk-show host. Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence.
His views on immigration, Islam, rape and autism have caused great offence in the US.
That is outrageous. I can guarantee the bureaucrats who banned Michael Savage have never listened to his show. They just heard the complaints from CAIR and the Autism over-diagnosis true-believers, and based their ruling on that.
Michael Savage does not advocate violence on air. Basically, Britain is banning him because he has an opinion. The wrong opinion.
One could say of MANY people that their opinions "have caused great offence in the US." Including, I might add, the President.

Back when our embassy personal were taken in Iran, my wife and I were refused entry to Trinidad because we were Americans. Six Americans on the plane. Six Americans taken, at gun point to a holding cell. Held for five hours and then marched across the airport by an armed detail and loaded on a plane headed for St. Vincent.
The customs officer was muslim and was rejecting all Americans who came his way that day.
In Trinidad the customs officer can refuse entry to anyone! No questions asked. We were refused any communication with our embassy, our friends or any legal help. We were simply deported to another island.
Of course it worked out for the better. We found a second home in St. Vincent and I took great pleasure taking business form Trinidad and directing it to St. Vincent.
I still have my entry refusal framed and on my desk. The Vincentions absolutely love it.

No doubt Savage will rant and rave and get all self-righteous. I've only heard him a couple of times and this is my take how he'll react. He'll cloak himself in a mantle of pride for his outspokeness.

Hell, I'd settle for a neutral "slant."
My problem with most of the "conservative talk show hosts"--and that includes the mighty Rush Limbaugh--is that they are all bombast, all the time, and their commercials are an offense to the sense of hearing.
That's why I listen to a local show in the morning here in Chicagoland and then turn it off afterward. I find Don and Roma (WLS-AM 890 5-9am) to be fairly decent. Don has a tendency to rant at times, but Roma (his wife) usually plays the foil. They often have on politicians as diverse as Jan Schakowsky (D) and Tony Peraica (R). If I'm in the car after 9am, I turn the channel as I can't stand the next host, Mancow, all that much.

I think he majority of Americans, rather than take offense, would have applauded wildly anyone who advised the U.S. military to turn Fallujah into a parking lot during the darkest days of terror violence there. People were tired of sending US troops into the meat grinder because of modern rules of engagement that prevented massive bombing raids as in WWII and Vietnam. We were sacrificing American lives to avoid hurting the international community's sensibilities. Which was exactly Savage's point.
The British bureaucrats may have disliked Savage's opinion, but stating it "caused offense" as a rationale for banning him is wrong on so many levels. Mainly, because most Americans probably agreed with it, so it didn't cause offense; and second: even if someone did find it offensive, that merits the banning stick?
I find Michael Moore and Bill Ayers offensive. Extremely offensive. As to millions of other Americans. Will Britian ban them? No. Because Britain has become the left-wing "Big Little Brother" fascist nanny state supreme.

Zombie, that is it in a nutshell.
It is one thing as whole to implement the laws enacted by the voters.
The absolute contradiction, is that his opinions are being banned. Whether you hate him or not, think he is an idiot, buffoon, imbecile, he has not violated any laws that I am aware of in Britain.
Parse this with the hook-handed imam openly calling for the destruction of the government, blatant support for Hamas among their own elected leaders, I think this represents a very dangerous picture of exactly where western civilization is going these days.
For anyone thinking I might be carrying the water for Savage, I think I might have listened to him once. Moron was what came to mind.
I am thoroughly dismayed at the thought of the western nations who were on the brink of destruction less than a century ago, devouring themselves from within.

Yeah, but simplistic crap like Savage is not good for a thinking mind. Its a sideshow.
Listen to Phil Hendrie, he is on the left on some things, on the right on the other, but is entertaining, funny as hell and a good listen. Same goes with Dennis Miller. But Savage? I like my cartoons animated.
I heard Hendrie eviscerate Arianna Huffington a few months back. He actually hung up on her, which was great.
At the same time, I do believe that while it would be nice to be selective and have only brilliant scholarly hosts on the radio, ala Dennis Prager IMO, there is something to be said for sheer volume and noise.
It is the same principle as establishing fire superiority in a firefight. It is not the accuracy of the fire that counts as much as the volume of it. The volume is what keeps the enemy's head down and allows one to gain the intiative, maneuver and neutralize (destroy) the opposition.
In today's dominant MFM culture the fire superiority is overwhelmingly on the left's side, with the right mainly in a reaction mode. Anything that helps to even that imbalance and puts them on the defensive is good in my book.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm not so sure we even want to go there regarding non-citizens. Suppose the non-citizen is someone like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn?
Reasonable people can disagree and I think your attitude is legitimate. I'd like to agree but I'm wary.
It's a matter of where to draw the line. I'm willing to use a preponderance-of-evidence standard for non-citizens.
It would be tragic to inadvertently bar a Solzhenitsyn. It would also be tragic to inadvertently help a Mao to regroup here. Some human rights are universal; a government should act on behalf of its citizens. Those two propositions do not always harmonize.

Limbaugh does great ratings and such, but in the end, he is a very uneducated guy. Laura Ingraham has become a very nasty person as of late, you could play a drinking game on how many times she says she is outraged(!) on each show. There was a show with Judge Napolitano that was pretty bad, John and Ken have become completely over the edge with fake outrage. Nevada files voter fraud charges against ACORN
Nevada's attorney general on Monday filed criminal charges accusing liberal community activist group ACORN and two of its employees of facilitating voter registration fraud in November's election by requiring canvassers to submit 20 applications each day or face termination.
Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto , both Democrats, announced the charges, stressing that there's no evidence that the phony registrations led to the casting of votes using fake identities.
A spokesman for ACORN, a nationwide grassroots organization, assailed the action as "political grandstanding."

The double and triple standards for first-world citizens versus second and third world citizens abound! I remember applying for my first visa to come to the U.S. as an exchange student, back in 2003. So many people, waiting in line at the embassy, their concern visible on their faces... Out of nearly 55 people who went in for an interview that day, only about 6-7 got a visa. I was one of the lucky few. A rough-looking malnourished highlander confessed to me as we were waiting, that he wanted to take his family over to the U.S. and just work there... as in, overstay his visa and be an illegal immigrant. I told him that sounded like a bad idea, since he and his family would never be able to advance above the shadows of illegality into respectable professions. He said, "Girl, how high-minded of you, I just want to feed my family." Obviously, the consular officers could read his face and denied him...
But many others were denied who didn't deserve it. A woman had saved tens of thousands of dollars from her family's contributions (an unfathomable sum in poor Albania), in order to take her young daughter to the U.S. for a complicated life-saving surgical procedure. I chatted with her a bit... she was definitely legit. Her stern face bore it all. She even had her little girl there with her. Yup, she got turned down.
Another young man, whose parents had immigrated to the U.S. as Green Card holders, wanted to visit because his mother had died in Boston, and his father was grief-stricken and without any help for funeral arrangements. He got turned down to, even after providing income tax documents, bank account balances, and other documentation as evidence that he had a going concern in Albania. Furthermore, he had visited in the U.S. before, so if he had wanted to overstay his visa, he certainly had had a chance, and didn't take it. That wasn't good enough. He got turned down.
Guess what, none of these people thought to sue any branches of the U.S. government. They considered the issuing of a visa to be a privilege granted by the U.S. authorities at their discretion. Were they frustrated? Yes, but ultimately they knew they had no grounds to complain.
What's with this sense of entitlement? Perhaps U.S. citizens are too complacent about international travel, their travel to most countries not requiring pre-screening or visas.
Savage is nothing but a conceited fuck, and while I don't listen to his show enough to know whether he has advocated violence on air, I know he has supported genocide and attempted genocide in Bosnia and Kosovo, respectively. That's good enough for me...

"This September the UN General Assembly will vote whether the Alliance of Civilizations initiative moves from that of preparatory to activation stage. The Alliance openly calls for tight controls on free speech. A Media Rapid Response force has been established to provide newspapers and television stations reporting “guidelines” during times of crisis, particularly in the area of where politics and religion intersect. "
[Link: www.pineline.blogspot.com...]
REPEAT: CALLS FOR TIGHT CONTROLS ON FREE SPEECH.
What you are seeing is the first test case of international pressure on freedom of speech. It's meant to accustom the plebes to what is coming and to see what kind of response there will be. You won't have a clue as to what is going on without knowing what is going on at the UN's Alliance of Civilizations meetings. It's an Muslim initiative whose cause is being used to control what we can say about individuals and organizations with whom we might disagree. Don't be surprised at how the "hate speech" bill that is being worked on in Congress will be interpreted and used.
So, we won't be able to criticize Muslims who call Jews "sons of pigs and monkeys", but anyone who insults their "prophet" (pork and bacon upon him) will be drawn and quartered.
And if Obama has his way, the Supreme Court will support this over the Constitution.

Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande. True, but so what?
I can certainly see your side of the equation as well! I'm with you on being wary. Freedom must be based on education, wisdom, and courage. The education to have a sense of the tragedies that someone like Mao unleashed, the wisdom to recognize that kind of demagogic rhetoric when we hear it, and the courage to stand against it.
Not sure I have the answer.

As a culture is being changed, to hear about what is going on and have to make decisions as to what is accurate information and what is only sensational information is difficult. Actually, there are no freedom of speech protections regarding foreigners attempting to visit the US. I think the difference is we don't have a list of banned people which we release to the general public.
A foreigner applying for a visa to the US can be denied for any reason (subject of course to internal regulations, etc... .) There is no appeal process and once rejected, the person applying cannot apply again for one year.

Of course it can never be torture when our guys do it. By definition.
Are you being sarcastic? Of course it can be torture when Americans do it. It's not a matter of who does it or why, it's matter of how. The word "waterboarding" is used to describe a whole range of possible activities, some of which are clearly torture and some of which are not.
To answer the question, "Is waterboarding torture?", you have to define both terms. Most commentators I have heard or read in the media don't bother defining either. They simply jump in with a predetermined conclusion.
1. Define torture.
2. Describe precisely the procedure by which waterboarding was performed by the CIA on those three Al Qaeda terrorists.
3. Then rationally conclude whether or not that instance was torture, based upon the definition of torture and procedure described.
Congress would have you believe waterboarding was not torture when they approved it's use in 2003, but it retroactively became torture during the election campaign of 2007. What changed?

For what it's worth, I'd like to draw a distinction between banning a book, or the expression of an idea, to the banning of entry to foreign individuals.
Every country selectively bars entry to foreigners. The U.S. does it to millions. Check how many rejected visa applications or immigration petitions have been issued. You'll be amazed. It's done for a variety of reasons. Often, simply if you don't come across as an agreeable person to the consular officer interviewing you, something about your accent, your hairstyle, your eyes, doesn't click, you're out! They don't even owe you much of an explanation.
I don't see what's so outrageous here about banning Savage.
Freedom of speech within your territories, on the other hand, is a completely different issue.

re: #16 lawhawk
The U.S. bans the presence of millions. That doesn't interfere with its free-speech protections. Other countries have the right to ban the presence of U.S. citizens from their territories. It doesn't have anything to do with freedom of speech either. Why the double standard?

On that we agree...
Let suggest that a limited-government attitude accepts that legitimate aspirations and values can conflict. Some people refuse to accept it; all too often, their refusal leads to the nanny state or worse.

re: #66 yesandno
You hit the nail on the head. We forget that we protect freedom of speech to a greater degree then any other nation. This is what happens when you criminalize actions and thoughts into things like hate crimes or hate speech. Sometimes the majority doesn't get it right. A crime is a crime. Making it a hate crime doesn't really make something like murder any worse...it might explain intent, but the result is the same.
Freedom of speech needs to be protected everywhere.... The Brits are more concerned with feelings then with freedom...no cartoons either.
I'll pass along that tip to certain acquaintances of mine, who are working on their applications for a visa for entry into the U.S. They'll give the U.S. consular that little speech, and I'll be sure to let you know how far it gets them.

There has been a ruling with respect to"undesirable aliens" admission for years(Louis Farrakan was an earlier recipient of this distinction).
Because of the "stick" that the labour government has received from the likes of Melanie Phillips, Nick Cohen, Rod Little and others as to the admission of Islamic nutters into this country.
New Labour(18 points behind in the polls)have clearly made the decision that their position is perilous;and that the free admission of Muslims who advocate world domination should be stamped on.
But, in order to demonstrate political impartiality the order went out to include some Americans probably according to the following thinking:
1) Barking mad
2)Of little consequence
3)Unlikely to visit this country anyway
Free speech probably didn't come into the equation at all(although I believe there is a de facto discouragement anyway; particularly with respect to sensitive muslims).Pat Condell might echo that.
New Labour have made some serious mistakes with respect to our whining minority;the evidence clearly being the rise of BNP scum.
I've never heard of this Savage chap;but he's clearly a loud mouthed moron.
BTW I heard Rush Limbaugh on the Beeb recently decscribing a successful operation he'd had on his inner ear.
He was the soul of propriety;praising the talent of the surgeon who had cured his deafness.

re: #417 n2stox
This Brit sillines reflects more on Britain than it does on Savage.
I do remember him saying specifically that the English Football Hooligan is Britain's only hope against the Islamification of their country.
That was 2+ years ago, and it has become more true every day, in my opinion.
And I've been railing against idiots on this very blog putting forward the same notions about the dreaded 'Football Hooligans' for some 2+ years too. Shame you weren't around or you wouldn't be repeating the same silliness now. Apart from some silliness that went on at a couple of Stoke City games lately, the game has been quite on that front for a good long time. If you want to have a good look at some nasty thugs, look to the terraces of Italian football and all their good little fascists, or listen to the monkey noises when black players run out on Spanish pitches.
Any of which shit would get you: Banned. For. Life in an English football ground.
Can't see your opinion going too far with real English football fans, mate.

I used to listen to Savage some years back, but no longer do (my local station went to Mark Levin in the same slot). He was ettinga bit too crazy and ranting for me towards the end, but I did like his personal history monologues and philosophical discussions. Now, don't think me a nut, but I can't help but think he might make a good counter to Garrison Keilor.
But as for Michael on politics, yeah, it just got to be too much for me.

LOL........ I do hope you'll excuse this Liverpool fan from joining in the celebrations :)
Looking forward to tomorrows game. I think Barca will go through, 'cos Chelski are going to have to come out and play and I think that's where they'll get caught. As long as Barcelona can find the bloody net this time, that is.
The Catelans will give you a game in Rome mate :)

re: #414 Slumbering Behemoth
I just recently heard Savage say that Princess Diana's death was actually an assassination carried out by British Secret Intelligence to prevent her unborn, half-arab baby from ascending to the throne. I wonder if that has something to do with their decision to bar his entry.
I think the violent homophobic ranting might have been enough on it's own. I'm pretty sure some rappers have been refused entry into the UK and other countries recently for that reason.

Did Savage have any plans to visit England?
430 | voluble Tue, May 5, 2009 5:32:29pm |
I read where it was his views on the Koran that lead to the banning. Given my views on the Koran I would no doubt give the same authorities cause for my banning in England as well. Indeed, it is a fair bet that anyone of conscience who has read the thing would be fair game for banning as it truly is a vile tract.
The important thing here is to remember that no one thinks Savage would be a threat to commit violence. They fear that others may commit violence if he says something they do not like... such as pointing out how they are too violent. The gas being thrown on the fire has nothing to do with anything Savage says. It is the acquiescence of a once great nation to threats of violence that encourages... more threats... and ultimately more violence.
The English are creating their own prison in the hopes that barbarians who are left to run wild will think better of them for their efforts. It is a fool's errand.

For a country intent on not letting anyone own firearms they sure can shoot themselves in the foot...

Savage talks from his heart or gut without the "political correctness check" the way people used to voice their opinions. That's what I like about him.
He's honest, has conviction and has the balls to state his case or opinion on whatever topic.
Yea he can get off the rail a bit and piss people off but really cm on. Is that hate or just another opinion voiced in a manor that is not all "nice pre packaged processed bullshit" to please everyone ?
I have listened to him a lot and I think he is smart as hell and funny as shit. He is usually spot on with current world affairs and sides with no one but his own opinion.
When compared to most of the other talking bobble heads on TV or radio he is by far the best.
You really got to listen to him for more than a few seconds, I notice that much of the hate comes from those that quote or heard pre selected content of one negative form or another.
Banned - I think it's cause he's always breaking their balls on the poor dental care. ; )

While a lot of the "conservatives" in these comments put Savage down and gladhand each other for taking the high road, the left wing continues to bulldoze this country into oblivion. To the commenter that said savage called gays pigs:you are being real damn selective. He singled out specific persons, who happened to be gay "activists", and called them pigs. He regularly calls liberals pigs also. There big thing now is apparently to do whatever we can to make everyone like us, in the hopes that we'll get elected again. Who cares if we become a permanant minority party, and the country turns into a 3rd world shithole;at least we are taking the high road. Am I right?
434 | fat.elvis Tue, May 5, 2009 11:57:57pm |
I agree with half of what Savage says but the rest of the time the man is a spitting frothing clown. This is based on 4 or 5 hours of listening in the car when I was bored. Half of things the "doctor" says are are completely ignorant. Couldn't even draw a distinction b/n RFK and JFK in one of his rants. Complete embarrassing assclown. More of an Olbermann than the great bore "great American" butthole Hannity.
435 | The Drizzle Wed, May 6, 2009 3:58:09am |
That, my friend, is the problem. A lot of people that have only listened for " a few hours" to Savage feel compelled to write him off as an "embarassment". Listen, the same people on the left that hate Savage him him ONLY because he is to the right. That is it. A lot of people here act like they are so above anything he says, or any valid point he makes is therefore invalid because he is "a clown". When did conservatives lose their will stand for anything, I don't know, conservative? To hear some people tell it, the worst thing about the Republican party is that a lot of them are creationists, when the real problem is the limp assed, left of center sad - sacks that have taken over the party. Again though, we have the "high road". At least when we lose the next 20 elections, we can all feel good about not playing at "their level". Who knows, the media might even say something nce about us for being so fair!

re: #423 Wishbone
yeah what is it with americans and the holy grail of "football hooligans" who will fight off the dreaded muslims?
I suggest that all Americans read "amongst the thugs" by Bill Buford, a bibliography of Bill, an American reporter who travels extensively with local english football firms, hooligans. criminals is all they are, non political but mostly just pro their home team.
these hooligans care nothing for their country, they just want to fight the rival teams supporters and towns.
grade A shit, human waste that's all they are.
we need top rank ex military, not uneducated chavs.

I listen to Dr. Savage regularly. The point of his broadcast is not that one must agree with everything he says, rather, that one needs to use critical thinking in regards to what the news of the day is and not just listen to pundits on television say it is. The idea of his broadcast is THINKING. He stimulates another viewpoint, getting people to consider other ways of looking at a problem. This used to be called discourse, logic. Have we, in this "modern" age jettisoned the need for reflection. I have heard many of Dr. Savage's points, and he backs them up with reason.
I wrote the British government. I asked them to put me on their banned list as well!
