Sen. David Vitter Guffaws

Wingnuts • Views: 2,950

Sen. David “DC Madam” Vitter and a right wing New Orleans radio host have themselves a good ol’ belly laugh over Rachel Maddow’s high school picture. Hurr hurr.

Greg Sargent posted the audio clip:

MP3 Audio

Oh, what fun!

On a right wing radio station this morning, Senator David Vitter appeared to suggest that MSNBC host Rachel Maddow only looked like a woman “a long time ago,” a crack that was greeted by uproarious laughter by the radio hosts.

Even if Maddow was attracted to men, she wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole ...

Interestingly enough, she has more makeup on in this current photo than she does in the high school one.

Rachel's one of those women who is blessed with good looks with or without makeup, and she's very striking. Add to that her voice, her obvious intellect, and her sense of humor, and she's a beautiful woman all around.

38 Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All  Fri, Jul 16, 2010 12:28:15pm

Vitter?

really? After having the Madam he used killed herself, and he didn't get a single day in jail, or a single day of probation, or a single dollar from fines? (and you can argue that what he did shouldn't be illegal, but right now it is, and the Madam was hounded and blasted in public while Vitter didn't even lose a dollar)

He has the temerity to continue to cavort in public, spitting on the very beliefs of conservatism and decency with his hypocritical statements. Is there no decency left in him? Doesn't he have a single shred left in his soul that says, "Maybe, just maybe, I should atone for my mistakes." and resign and work on becoming a better person?

At the very least, can he at least shut the fuck up? Because every time he opens his hateful, spiteful, and hypocritical mouth, in the deep recesses of my mind, where I feel Karma has not been properly appeased for him, I really wish someone punches him in it.

I'm going to shut up now before I say something that gets me in real trouble.

39 darthstar  Fri, Jul 16, 2010 12:28:59pm

Rachel's show is going to be priceless tonight. I can't wait.

For the record, I think she's quite beautiful. Then you add her intelligence, her wit, and her sense of humor to the mix.

And if you missed her segment with Richard Holbrook and her commentary after it last night to end her show, I highly recommend you give it a listen.

Kagan, Maddow... the easiest, cheapest, most expedient way they can cut a woman down is by saying she's gay. In the good ole boy playbook, that's number one put-down on the list. Doesn't matter if they are, or they just suspect they are. Like, they're too much man for a woman, so she must be butch.

Any woman not attracted to judgmental asshole doughboys with bad haircuts... they gotta be gay.

It bothers me to no end how anyone can care so much about someone's sexual orientation or their physical looks. I check out the web site with Maddow's high school picture and see someone saying "I'd nail that" (or something like that)... down this thread there are comparisons made between one woman and another, as if they were commodities to trade on the stock exchange, and I see comparisons of people physical looks being some indication as to their intellectual or sexual prowess.

Actually, in my opinion, it's all sick.

LOL ... I'll take a leap of faith and assume that was sarcasm ... but the fact of the matter is that hotness is an admirable quality in a woman OR man, but other qualities are just as important. It's a true thing that we humans find other humans more or less desirable. It's a true thing that physical form is part of that.

You want mental contortions and tortured language? I give you Hamas and their latest utterances about Israel. They still consider Israel occupiers of Gaza.

"We will not allow the occupation to evade its legal responsibility as long as it continues to occupy Palestinian land. Gaza is a part of the Palestinian homeland and we reject its disengagement from the rest of the homeland," he said.

"The occupation in the Strip continues despite the withdrawal of Zionist forces and despite the disbanding of settlements," Abu-Zuhri added.

"This is an (Israeli) attempt to evade its responsibility for the siege. The removal of the siege is a legal right according to international and human rights law, and we must separate between the removal of the siege and the disengagement of the Strip from the rest of the homeland."

According to Lieberman's plan, which was published by the Yedioth Ahronoth daily, Gaza – with European assistance – will become an entirely independent entity. In this way, Lieberman believes, the world will finally recognize the end of the Israeli occupation there.

When isn't an occupation an occupation? When Israel is the one involved.

And to be absolutely clear - Hamas considers Israel to sit atop the Palestinian homeland. They're not just talking about the West Bank, but all of Israel and the territories.

The Lieberman plan would actually take into account the de facto situation on the ground - that Hamas controls Gaza and Fatah controls the West Bank. It would mean 3 separate states, and that clearly isn't something Hamas wants, and it isn't something Fatah wants either. Hamas wants 1-state - and no Israel.

Physical beauty is certainly a commoner attribute than an incisive mind.

However, studies on attractiveness as a decisive attribute in the workplace have actually shown that, while attractive people do get paid more, intelligence levels are actually the best indicator:

[Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

However looks alone are no substitute for intelligence. Workers with the highest intelligence levels did the best overall – no matter how good-looking they were – suggesting that the perfect employee needs to have the right combination of brains, beauty and confidence said the Florida researchers.

Intelligence is, of course, a largely inborn component as well. I feel a lot worse for a beautiful, less-bright person than I do a plain, sharp person.

Intelligence remains the most useful thing in the world-- as long as you've got some social intelligence too.

Yeah, and look at this:

Post poll: McInnis losing support, Republicans like Tancredo

Support for GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis is eroding among Republicans but he remains a viable candidate even after a plagiarism scandal, according to a new Denver Post poll.

Twenty percent of registered Republican voters who supported McInnis prior to this week's allegations that he plagiarized previously published material said they will now back another candidate. Another 39 percent of those who originally supported McInnis said they will continue to stand behind him...

However, when given a list of other Republicans who could be the party's nominee, 64 percent of GOP voters picked another candidate over McInnis.

When asked who would be the "strongest Republican gubernatorial candidate," former Congressman Tom Tancredo easily led the pack of six choices with 29 percent. McInnis followed with 19 percent and his primary opponent Dan Maes, who has failed to gain traction with the GOP establishment and hasn't raised much money, had 13 percent....

Well, feelings always follow a logical process; everything in this physical world does. But I know what you mean; that your feelings on this are irrational is quite clear.

For example:

In general, most of us have come to terms with skin color and those many other areas that was the bastion of bigots, but physical attributes... well, fat jokes are still acceptable, oogling over a woman because of her body, snide sexual comments, they still seem to slide.

In this statement you elide the positive with the negative. Yes, women get 'ogled' over because of their bodies. As do men. We really do actually have limbic systems and we really do actually react to the physical attributes of other humans. Lying about it or hiding it doesn't really help, since the end result would still be the same; we'd still act the same. If we had some cultural taboo against mentioning a woman's attractiveness, it wouldn't actually affect the way that physical beauty affects us.

The sort of political correctness you favor in this regard is, to me, the most dangerous kind: it hides reality, allows people the pretense that they're not thinking a certain way, while doing nothing about the actual thoughts and behaviors that are problematic.

I've been fat, skinny, and all places in between. How do you think it makes me feel if someone is claiming someone else is not as attractive because of physical shape or something.

People really are less attractive than other people, though. People really are less intelligent, too. And shorter. And all other sorts of things which really do affect the way that they're treated.

To simply not mention these things does nothing about that. To spare feelings while achieving nothing seems a very Pyhrric victory.

re: #155 Obdicut

Physical beauty is certainly a commoner attribute than an incisive mind.

However, studies on attractiveness as a decisive attribute in the workplace have actually shown that, while attractive people do get paid more, intelligence levels are actually the best indicator:

[Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

Intelligence is, of course, a largely inborn component as well. I feel a lot worse for a beautiful, less-bright person than I do a plain, sharp person.

Intelligence remains the most useful thing in the world-- as long as you've got some social intelligence too.

My mother was an odd kid. She was agoraphobic (afraid to leave the house) and bulimic. She used to have fainting spells. There are some reasons for it... but anyway, she was a beautiful girl, the twin of Rita Hayworth. She used to tell me, "Thank goodness I was pretty or I would have been a basket case." She was so terrified of other people, but because of her looks, people naturally came up to her. Had she not been good looking, no one would have had anything to do with her.

It's a sad commentary and that wasn't lost on her, but her looks really saved her life.

Sponsor of Flotilla Tied to Elite of Turkey

ISTANBUL — The Turkish charity that led the flotilla involved in a deadly Israeli raid has extensive connections with Turkey’s political elite, and the group’s efforts to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza received support at the top levels of the governing party, Turkish diplomats and government officials said.

The charity, the Humanitarian Relief Foundation, often called I.H.H., has come under attack in Israel and the West for offering financial support to groups accused of terrorism. But in Turkey the group has helped Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan shore up support from conservative Muslims ahead of critical elections next year and improve Turkey’s standing and influence in the Arab world.

According to a senior Turkish official close to the government, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the political delicacy of the issue, as many as 10 Parliament members from Mr. Erdogan’s governing Justice and Development Party were considering boarding the Mavi Marmara, the ship where the deadly raid occurred, but were warned off at the last minute by senior Foreign Ministry officials concerned that their presence might escalate tensions too much.

When leaders of the charity returned home after nine Turks died in the Israeli raid, they were warmly embraced by top Turkish officials, said Huseyin Oruc, deputy director of the charity, who was aboard the flotilla.

36 arrested in Medicare scam costing $251 million.

Several doctors and nurses were among those arrested in Miami, New York City, Detroit, Houston and Baton Rouge, La., accused of billing Medicare for unnecessary equipment, physical therapy and HIV treatments that patients typically never received. Ninety-four suspects were indicted, and authorities said 36 people had been arrested as of Friday morning.

More than 360 agents participated in Friday's raids, announced by Attorney General Eric Holder and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a health care fraud prevention summit in Miami. Officials said they chose Miami because it is ground zero for Medicare fraud. Authorities indicted 33 suspects in the Miami area, accused of charging Medicare for about $140 million in various scams.

"With today's arrests we're putting would-be criminals on notice: health care fraud is no longer a safe bet," Holder said Friday.

Cleaning up an estimated $60 billion to $90 billion a year in Medicare fraud will be key to paying for President Barack Obama's proposed health care overhaul. Federal officials have promised more money and manpower to fight fraud, setting up strike forces in several cities.

Dog shoots man in the buttocks

Maybe he just got sick of playing fetch.

A dog appears to have shot its owner in the rump in New Zealand.

According to local police reports, an unidentified, forty year old man from Northland, New Zealand was shot in the left buttock while in the back seat of his car in Te Kopuru, on Saturday afternoon.

Apparently the man’s dog, which was in the back seat with him, accidently stepped on the trigger of its owner’s .22 caliber rifle, causing it to discharge into his rear.

At this point local authorities do not suspect any foul play, but are nonetheless keeping an eye on the dog as a “person of interest”.

I have a friend who had a cleft palate as a kid. Everyone, in addition to finding her ugly, thought that she was mentally deficient, as well. She got treated very shabbily by other kids, and by adults, too.

She had an operation in her teens to repair it, which was successful. She transformed virtually overnight to being gorgeous. She's also cynical as hell, because after that everyone started to want to be her friend. She realized how small the things can be that stop us from treating each other well.

My point is that if I didn't say 'ugly' and 'she's gorgeous' in my above sentence, all those events would have still happened as they did. It would have been really difficult to describe what had happened to her.

I still think that people who are below average intelligence have the worst time of it in this world, though.

Great story about a tough soldier...

Hero hit by bullet ... spits it out again

TOUGH soldier Luke Reeson was hit in the face by a Taliban bullet - and SPAT it out.

He then yomped two miles to base, carrying his heavy kit, for treatment to a broken jaw.

And just three weeks later he was back on the front line again.

Luke, a 22-year-old lance corporal, was on patrol in Nad-e-Ali in Helmand when an insurgent's bullet hit his body armour and ricocheted into his face.

It tore into his cheek, broke his jaw and came out through his mouth.

After 24 hours with military medics at Camp Bastion, he was flown to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

But the 6ft 5in hero was soon back in Afghanistan with his mates from 1 Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.

The sad thing is that it it comes up at all! Like imagine if there were a candidate likely to become a major party's nominee who believed cars were all just metal horses, or a nominee who believed that cameras stole your soul. And then RAN ON IT

IIRC, Switzerland is the richest nation in Europe.

They have all that Jew money from the Holocaust, which they refuse to turn over to the survivors because they can't produce official "death certificates" of the account holders.

I'd add a caveat where you say not nearly as mean-spirited as Coulter.

All of these types make their hay by being mean-spirited to a point. Olberman, O'Reilly, Hannitty, Maddow. Same thing different viewpoint. There's a reason no one cared for Alan Colmes and he didn't rate well, he was more respectful than any of the others so he looked like milquetoast.

I would respectfully disagree. I watched Maddow's interview of Rand Paul, and she handled him with kid gloves.

If she is discussing a point of view she thinks is undeserving of respect you know how she feels, but she is at all times civil.

This SomethingAwful piece does an excellent job of skewering Ben Nelson:

"The Goblin Running D.C."

hahahahahahah

"Now, this might not sound like a big deal. After all, it's just another new, worthless government agency on paper. Unfortunately for the White House deal wizards, the person Nelson wants to veto out of the job is Elizabeth Warren. You've seen her before. She's the spunky, middle-aged nerd that likes to go on The Daily Show and Colbert and talk about what a bunch of fucking moronic scoundrels we have running our country. She's hard not to love. Nelson disagrees and mysteriously immediately after he voted for the reform the Obama administration sent doll-eyed elf Tim Geithner trundling out of his gothic cuckoo clock to oppose Elizabeth Warren heading the CFPB. "

I have a serious geeky girl crush on that woman....

There's a company that's basically around to service them and build them "new' from the stock of spare parts, they bought the factory inventory. pretty cool!

Now I had to google the Thunderbolt:

Man, no wonder they're mythical. A car from 1964 with 500 horse, holy hell!

both ones I've seen were white, but there were a handful of maroon ones...an extremely rare car....that means everything....my brother had a 66 Nova SS...327/365hp...one of just a couple hundred made, but he didn't know it until years later, priceless....people are hip to that stuff now, accessing factory and COPA dealer records etc....the old T-Bolt is probably the most famous of all...my friend races his...doh!

about cars...
millions of kids grew up with the rise of drag racing and street rods...the built up clunkers, bought them new for 3500 bucks, raced them and loved them...now after all these years these same old farts have money and time and still love their cars...there is a huge cult that finds them, restores them and sells them...there is a market that is self made...a muscle car, depending, can get 100k and up...build a hot rod and triple your money...collect and sell parts and make a mint...people do it all day, everyday...the Ford Thunderbolt I mentioned was made in 64, 111 of them, and I ran into a guy the other day that had one in his shop...only the second one of these mythical cars I have ever seen...they are utterly priceless, a quarter million or more...check it out...there is HUGE money in vintage racers...my BinLs three Camaros are worth five times the money he has in them

I can tell you where to buy a mint Thunderbolt for less than $70,00!

Just because I like you, amigo.

Honestly, I don't believe (and never have) that she will make any further attempts at elected office. She will make noises to keep her name in the news for as long as possible and make the money that she can in the meantime.
