Since nothing about Beck's conspiracy is in any way rooted in reality, it did not come as much of a surprise when he spun an elaborate fantasy scenario on his radio program today in which the Petraeus finally realizes that he has bottomed out and therefore decides to come clean by going before Congress today to admit that he was forced to lie about the attack in Libya in order to protect the White House, as Beck declared that "if he is truly redeemed, he will do that today" since "a man with real honor will redeem himself" by being willing to go to prison for telling the truth:

There's a lot of things that Google Whatever doesn't do as well as it used to. They've "improved" it. I dislike the new interface on the search engine, as it makes me take an additional step to do some of the things I used to do quite often.

High-level Hamas commander and missile operator killed – IDF
Hamas has confirmed that a high-level military commander, Amad abu Jalal, was among those killed in the strike earlier today that killed four (updated from 3) inside the Al Maghazi camp.
Abu Jalal, 43, has been described as a field commander and anti-tank specialist.
UPDATE: The IDF says Hamas "chief missile operator" Khaled Shayar has been killed as well. It is unclear where Shayar was killed; his name was not on a list of four killed at the camp.

Possibly. It's interesting to see the web develop and the strategies used to make money. The most popular tactic seems to be harvesting personal info. Google, Facebook, possibly twitter, all seem to exist with the sole purpose of harvesting personal information.

Sort of like the "training the customer" strategies in other industries.
For example, in jewelry, De Beers and their syndicate have spent a lifetime forming the publics ideas of what jewelry ought to be, what a diamond signifies, what to look for in diamonds, what to expect to pay, etc. They do this through very extensive advertising campaigns that run for many years.
They can (or used to) get away with that because of the near monopoly they have.
Google too is trying to "educate" their customer into what a "search engine" ought to be.

First, because it has been done by other monopolies.
Secondly, because Google via its initial stock offering, its subsequent expenditures, and large investments, has taken in and sent out quite a bit of money.
I see Google as the new "Madison Avenue". As much of the 20th century the advertising agencies exploited discoveries in psychology that they used to control (or if that is too harsh for you, then "strongly influence") society, so now Google is exploring ideas to influence the flow of information around the world, so that its true clients (those who pay it money, not those who use the search engines) can get the most return for their money.
This is not The Bible Code type of stuff, but is simply the nature of commercial propaganda with which we already live.

I'd suggest you read up on how Google actually operates. It's part of why they're successful-- they obsessively track how users 'naturally' operate in whatever environments they set up. This is the main way that they've captured market share. Internet users are notoriously fickle; Netscape was a brief darling but as soon as it ran into usability trouble, people abandoned it. Likewise, Firefox lost a lot to Chrome. The cost of switching is next to nothing, and so the market is incredibly fluid.

There are many dimensions to this "education".
For example, now owned by a local wingnut, the SDUT ran a DRILL BABY DRILL! editorial about how California could be swimming in oil if it just wasn't for those nasty environmentalists:

Environmentalists’ griping about fracking’s allegedly huge downside only ramped up when new methods proved transformative for oil and gas exploration.
What the editorial ignores totally is the price of the product. When petroleum prices go up so does drilling activity, and when prices go down drilling ceases. Secondly, that bolded sentence is very much a tautology; the editors are acting as if those nasty "environmentalists" only gripe when, well, something actually happens in the environment. Who would have figured?

Just because mismanagement over the years and changing tastes ran Hostess (formerly known as Interstate Brands) into the ground for good (sorry, "free-market" wingnuts...you can't pin the blame on their unions for this) doesn't mean that some of the more popular Hostess marques won't survive.
I'm sure that Grupo Bimbo (Colonial bread, Entenmann's) might snatch some of them up; they've been making a big splash in the American market over the past few years, taking over Sara Lee's bakery operations a while back (they already hold, among other things, the rights to Wonder Bread in Mexico). Flower Foods (Sunbeam, Bunny, and Nature's Own breads, Tastykake, Mrs. Freshley's) and McKee Foods (Little Debbie) are probably gonna want a shot at Hostess' brands and assets as well.

That's exactly right. Here in Sask, we had a healthy oil industry when oil was $30 barrel, but the number of oil wells, especially in our portion of the Bakken fields and the oil sands area around Lloydminster, exploded when oil hit $140 barrel. The political right here has concluded their push for lower taxes is the impetus for the windfall, not the high return on investment high oil (and potash) prices garner.

Just because mismanagement over the years and changing tastes ran Hostess (formerly known as Interstate Brands) into the ground for good (sorry, "free-market" wingnuts...you can't pin the blame on their unions for this) doesn't mean that some of the more popular Hostess marques won't survive. I'm sure that Grupo Bimbo might snatch some of them up; they've been making a big splash in the American market over the past few years, taking over Sara Lee's bakery operations a while back.

Advertising agencies studied human behavior long before Google researched human activities.
Advertisers were not creating a new human, they simply used the existing human, in all our humanity.
I do believe in the current world that digital businesses, including Google, are more precariously clinging to their business than in the old advertising days. Especially since large segments of the online world are behind controlled interfaces, such as in China, the existence of a global company that depends on moving information through such interfaces, such as Google, is liable to some large crash, or radical change in the future.

You're not explaining yourself at all. How is google trying to train people to do what, and how is displaying advertisments-- the design and content of which Google doesn't know, it just knows the keywords of it-- supposed to achieve that?
Maybe write a page or something, because I cannot for the life of me follow what you're saying. You started off talking about Google taking away free things-- wasn't that about charging the end user? If not, what does it being free have to do with anything, and why would Google take anything away?

How he does all of what he does with a straight face is beyond me. I think I've seen him break character on his show maybe once because he was riffing on something so hilariously ridiculous that he just put his head down and started giggling (was a couple years ago IIRC.)

I think it's more buried in the interface now. If you go to a story and you scroll all the way to the bottom, there should be something like: "See all 18,803 articles »"
Clicking that link should add the old "sort by date" on the left again.
