National Enquirer Pushes #TedCruzSexScandal
It’s all over the Internets this morning — the National Enquirer story that Ted Cruz has been a very sinful ultra-evangelical: SHOCKING CLAIMS: Ted Cruz Caught Cheating — With 5 Secret Mistresses!
Of course, the first thing everyone thinks when they see a National Enquirer story is: “Is this tabloid BS?” The Enquirer does have a record of being accurate when it comes to sex-crazed politicians, but they also have a much longer record of inventing salacious stories to sell papers.
On the minus side, however, both Katrina Pierson (who used to work for Cruz before switching sides to Trump) and Amanda Carpenter have now categorically denied the allegations.
Carpenter on CNN:

And Pierson on Twitter, in typically sleazy Trumpian manner, leaving the door open to the possibility that the other women may have had affairs with Cruz:
Of course the National Enquirer story is 100% FALSE!!! I only speak to myself, however.
Carry on…— Katrina Pierson (@KatrinaPierson) March 25, 2016
And it should also be pointed out that Donald Trump is a personal friend of Enquirer CEO David Pecker, and if you think Trump would be above pulling something sleazy and dishonest to attack a rival — well, you must not have been paying attention for the last year. And the best evidence that Cruz couldn’t have had five secret mistresses is… his own repellent personality.
So the jury’s still out, but I have to say it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were true; the most fanatical right wing evangelicals often seem to be the most likely to fall prey to their own private parts.
Cruz has now officially denied the story as well, saying, “It is garbage, complete and utter lies. It is a tabloid smear and it has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen.”
