Verse
a man was walking
and lost his way
in his misfortune, he found luck and a house
without a question
he made his way inside
where he found the owner, who asked

Chorus
where do you come from?
where are you going?

Verse
the man began to tell the story
of how he lost his way
of how far he was from home
and now that night was falling
asked to stay a while
the owner granted
inviting him to remain
and putting food on the table

but when the lost man saw the beauty of the home
and tasted the richness of the meal
he looked at the one who had opened his door
and knew then that he had no desire to leave
in time he decided
to kill his host and make the house his own

misfortune came to the good heart
in the presence of jealousy
misfortune came to the good heart
for jealousy always precedes misery

with many sunrises
the man was well-established
but stricken with fear of thieves
coming to take what was now his
he adorned his home with barriers
and locked himself in
until one day
he heard the sound of a drum at his door, saying

is there someone here?
can you open up for me?

now it was his turn
to ask the person outside

Chorus
where are you from?
where are you going?

Verse
I come from far away
and because of a dream
which told me
I could find all that I need in this place

one fighting to enter
and the other struggling
for the door to stay closed

ooh
é ay yay yay
what you throw comes back to you

Now starting to get attacked by right wingers who think because I pointed out that terror attacks are intended to provoke hysteria and overreactions, that means I’m a disgusting monster who doesn’t care when little girls are murdered.

These people are really fucked up.

Can’t win with these fuckwits, can you?

What happened tonight was horrific, which was exactly your point, and you were absolutely correct about the motive.

Now they question you’re motivation for pointing out the obvious?

Fuck ‘em Charles. Continue to state the facts on the ground.

So like a case of herpes, the Trump Budget looks like the gift that’s gonna keep on giving. Now I’m reading that the budget only includes $200B for infrastructure, and instead of making that a big pot of money that will cut into checks, the administration wants to create an “investment fund” that supposedly will promote private investment in infrastructure. The earliest that the White House expects that money to start flowing out? Late next year.

So if you like in Bumfuck, Iowa and you voted for Trump on the promise that that big infrastructure project near you would get finished, then I’ve got some bad news.

Targetpractice  May 22, 2017 • 11:18:31pm

Oh, and I forgot that the way Trump and Mulvaney get to the “$1T spent on infrastructure” bit to supposedly keep his campaign promise is to claim that there will be a 5:1 return on federal investment. In other words, for every dollar of that $200B, they expect $5 in private investment to flow into infrastructure projects.

Like, how? I mean, is that supposed to come through municipal bonds ‘n shit or what? Also, this is where the repaired economy he inherited from Obama really fucks Trump, because bonds are unattractive as hell right now when the average investor can get so much more just by investing in the S&P, while the more risk tolerant are making a killing in tech stocks. Additionally we’re bidding on all the material and labor we need for these infrastructure repairs against a recovered private industry, so the taxpayer isn’t getting a break on any of this.

The Three-card Monte horseshit that they floated during the last weeks of the election, like convincing state and local governments to sell/lease public assets to private companies/investors in exchange for cash that can be spent on other projects.

That’s been going on here for a while with public water systems.

I got into an on-line argument with some out-of-state libertarian touting the benefits of private companies running water systems. I noted that if that is such a great model, how come all the towns around us that sold their water systems are now paying eight times or more for water with no improvement in service?

I was accused of being a socialist shill and lying. Doesn’t matter that this information is available from the state government… .

By delaying action on the request until the last two days of the session,
Burr was able to pass his version of the waterworks bill. Instead
of a municipally funded works,26 a charter for an institution to be known
as the Manhattan Company was approved. The company was to be limited
to two million dollars in initial capital stock, had broad powers to
seize and condemn land for the purpose of creating a water works, and
had a ten-year time limit in which to deliver the water. Most remarkable
was the section near the end of the charter that permitted the directors
of the company to “use such surplus capital … in the purchase of public
and other stock, or in any other monied transactions … for the sole
benefit of the company.”27 Burr and his colleagues had just commissioned
what would become the Chase Manhattan Bank, the only bank
at the time not under Federalist control.

By 1846, there were
eight water companies in London, which avoided competition by dividing
up the city into eight districts where each had exclusive rights. The majority of the companies used the filthy water of the Thames as their
source, leading to outbreaks of cholera and typhoid in the middle years
of the century. These exclusive rights meant that actions taken in one
area to improve water quality would have no effect in other areas of the
city, allowing disease to spread in spite of action taken to prevent it. The
municipal ownership of water works would prove to be the most effective
means of ensuring a plenteous and pure water supply for American
cities.

Puke. Heartless.

They wouldn’t be going for this “crisis actor” nonsense if they thought it was a foreigner/brown person.

On the other hand, if it comes out that the attacker was a foreigner, watch how fast they switch their “narrative” right away, delete posts, claim they never made the false flag statements, liberal media is mollycoddling terrorists, &c.

In addition, there seems to be an awful lot of gunfire in that video. The Manchester Police has not claimed there was a shooter. Moreover, the accents of the people in the video are American.

In addition, right at the beginning of the video you can see the business on the right of the entrance is a Five Guys. I’m guessing they don’t have that Virginia chain in England.

The RWNJ has used a training exercise video to portray the Manchester attack as a false flag op. The two have nothing to do with each other, I am quite sure. It’s like claiming the local fire department’s house fire practice means the fire department is going around setting fires just so they can put them out.

Time for bed. Gotta take water samples in the morning.

(That doesn’t involve asking people for a glass of water to test for arsenic, uranium, nitrates, or coliform.)

Likely will have to drive water samples to Scottsbluff later in the day (there is a time limit on how long the water samples can sit - twelve hours - so mailing them is not an option).

Travelers Chant ‘Lock Him Up’ As Man In Trump Hat Is Removed From United Plane

Passengers chanted “lock him up” as United Airlines had a man sporting a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” campaign hat removed from a flight in Shanghai. The man delayed takeoff for hours as he was escorted from the flight for being belligerent, the airline confirmed in a statement Monday.

The incident is the latest in a slew of mid-air confrontations this year, with United hitting the headlines for an ugly incident involving a staff member. This time, passengers were reportedly upset with the unnamed man in the Trump campaign hat for refusing to allow anyone to sit next to him on Flight 187, apparently because he had been refused an upgrade.

I’m not giving up yet. As bad as it appears, the USA has pulled itself from disastrous situations before. James Buchanan presided over states leaving the Union at the start of the Civil War. The USA was dragged into WW2 by the Axis powers when America Firsters tried to keep us neutral. The Businessmen’s Plot tried to overthrow FDR to set up a fascist regime.

And in reality, if the USA were to become a fascist state, where could you go to escape the consequences? We don’t have interplanetary colonies. It’s stand and fight (either politically or literally).

I could escape to Saskatchewan for example, but how long would that be safe?

At least six residents of the Central Virginia Training Center outside Lynchburg have suffered “prolonged and painful” deaths because of preventable urinary tract infections, according to the disAbility Law Center of Virginia.

The Richmond-based watchdog organization, which is responsible for monitoring serious incidents at state-run institutions, released a report Monday outlining six deaths between March 2015 and May 2016. The names of the patients who died were blacked out in the report.

Virginia’s training centers house people with severe disabilities.

Colleen Miller, executive director of the disAbility Law Center, said she believes there were possibly four or five additional deaths caused by urinary tract infections at the Central Virginia Training Center during that period, but she can’t be sure because the information the group receives from the facility in Amherst County’s Madison Heights area is not always timely or complete.

The Virginia Department of Elections website displayed warning messages Monday saying the site was insecure on the last day of voter registration for the June 13 gubernatorial primaries.

The issue lasted a little more than an hour and was cleared up shortly after election officials became aware of it. But it was the second time in less than 12 months that the elections agency has had technical difficulties with a registration deadline for a statewide election looming and as would-be voters have been encouraged to register online.

Last October, a federal judge ordered the state to temporarily reopen its voter registration period after the website crashed at the deadline to register for the presidential election.

The website did not go down Monday, but multiple web browsers displayed security warnings flagging the site as potentially dangerous. To get to the site, users had to click through the warning and disregard browser recommendations to close the page.

In “The Caine Mutiny,” our first hint that Queeg is unbalanced comes when he tries to cover up a serious mistake — running over a towline in a gunnery drill. Later, when the Caine has to participate in an invasion of a Pacific island, Queeg cuts and runs and then demands his officers support his decision. They choose instead to keep silent.

We have many such similarities with Trump. Maybe the most psychologically egregious occurred right after the inauguration when he sent out Sean Spicer to lie about the size of the crowd. This was seemingly a small matter, but the inability to distinguish between the trivial and the consequential is, we now know, a Trump character malfunction.

In Queeg’s case, the telling incident has to do with some missing strawberries. The captain orders an investigation and has the ship laboriously searched for a nonexistent duplicate refrigerator key. “They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, with geometric logic, that a duplicate key to the ward room icebox did exist,” Queeg says when he takes the stand at the court-martial of his mutinous officers.

That’s what you hear when white guys shoot up offices and schools and theaters. Not terrorism, even though people were certainly terrorized. And seldom racism.

This double standard is the kind of cul-de-sac racism America struggles most with.

Definitely interesting. Check this part out:

During his brief tenure, Flynn engaged in breathtaking corruption of his official duties. As national security adviser, Flynn ordered a delay in a key assault on ISIS in Raqqa, Syria. The delay comported with the desires of the Turkish government, which had paid Flynn more than half a million dollars. While largely blotted out by the shock of daily revelations about Trump, in a normal news environment this revelation would have mushroomed into a first-tier scandal of its own. It is hard to think of a historical case in which a major American military action has been influenced so corruptly by a foreign power.

I’ve always thought - even from before the election - that Trump would eventually be done in by a good old-fashioned “corruption” scandal: i. e., exploiting his Presidency for some kind of personal pocket-lining (and no, hiding behind his daughter and son-in-law doesn’t count). It’s only what you can expect when you elect a shady charlatan like Donald Trump to the WH: the big problem is those who seriously care about ethics or corruption in government aren’t -for now - in much of any position to do anything about it. Well, that: and the large numbers of the “base” who just don’t care.

re: #14 Targetpractice

So like a case of herpes, the Trump Budget looks like the gift that’s gonna keep on giving. Now I’m reading that the budget only includes $200B for infrastructure, and instead of making that a big pot of money that will cut into checks, the administration wants to create an “investment fund” that supposedly will promote private investment in infrastructure. The earliest that the White House expects that money to start flowing out? Late next year.

So if you like in Bumfuck, Iowa and you voted for Trump on the promise that that big infrastructure project near you would get finished, then I’ve got some bad news.

The Trump budget is a fucking disaster of epic proportions. It doesn’t even begin to pass the smell test. In fact, it reeks worse than a backed up sewer main spewing nonstop shit into the street.

Of course that means Heritage is supporting it.

Any economist will tell you that Trump’s budget wouldn’t even pass first year econ. Why? Double counting growth, but ignoring the cost of lost revenue. In other words, the deficits created will be double that which they claim (and they’ve already stated that they’re good with it. But the deficits are an excuse to absolute gut Medicare, Medicaid, and every other social program so millionaires like Trump can get their tax cuts.

This is the worst kind of redistribution of wealth. As I repeatedly argue, the GOP isn’t against redistribution of wealth - they just want to see all the wealth flow to the rich, and that the poor get fucked.

That’s exactly what this budget proposes. The GOP may feign revulsion at it, but this is their long term goal too. Gut and eliminate the safety net, cut taxes on the rich, and screw the poor.

The infrastructure budget is vaporware too. It supposes that foreign investments will mean cheap funding that is off government ledgers, but it also suggests that foreign investors will get control/have say in US infrastructure, which is a potential national security risk. Privatizing infrastructure hasn’t exactly gone well where it’s been tried.

There’s a reason that Amtrak even exists in the first place - railroads went bankrupt trying to do passenger service. Amtrak’s in a bad way because of decades of govt (particularly the GOP) refusing to do the investment needed in infrastructure. We’re seeing the wages of this now. And the GOP wants even deeper cuts to Amtrak.

Even leaving aside the apparently genetically-coded Republican animus towards passenger rail service (of almost any sort), the bolded bit above is, IMO, the heart of the matter. The notion that anything that doesn’t make money, in and of itself, is unworthy of public support is a thoroughly ingrained concept for a large segment of the political establishment. And the Trump Era is only going to aggravate the problem.

Oh, and another thing.

If I hear any fucking GOPers claim that they’re pro life after even giving the slightest bit of support for Trump’s budget, or anything approaching Trump’s budget, they can go to fucking hell.

This is not the budget anyone calling themselves pro life could ever ascribe to. The GOP may try and distance themselves from the Trump budget, but this budget is an aspirational goal for the GOP - to completely defund and eliminate the safety net so that rich people can get bigger tax cuts.

Set aside the bit that they completely defund every aspect of Planned Parenthood. That’s bad enough.

They’re absolutely crippling the Medicare and Medicaid budgets, which is essential for the health care of millions of senior citizens, disabled Americans, and poor, especially and including children.

Delaying care, denying care, and ultimately resulting in shorter life expectancies and more deaths.

That’s the fucking opposite of being pro life.

In fact, these GOP fuckers are more than willing to gut coverage for prenatal care, which gives away the game - that this isn’t about the life of the mother, or even the fetus. It’s about power and control, and forcing births on women who have to make difficult choices that they aren’t taking lightly, and screwing these women every which way to Sunday and back.

I think education is simple. We should focus on strengthening our existing public schools. If you want private schools fine, I’m not opposed to their existence but they’re just that, private. Focus on strengthening public schools by getting top-notch educators, etc. DeVos doesn’t know a goddamn thing about our public school system. FFS everyone in this administration makes the Bush administration look brilliant. I mean I know I disagreed with Rod Paige and Margaret Spellings on educational policy but at least those two had been involved in our educational system and weren’t just being rewarded for years of giving the Republican tit money.

It is obviously worrying. On the other hand, as Trumps ratings slip and Congress looks at who this will hurt before the next election, they may not go anywhere with this budget or anything like it. Given the past 4 months, I’d give chaos continuing to reign an edge in the odds.

I suspect the Trump budget is a negotiating tactic. I’ve seen more than one member of the GOP dismiss it as something that will obviously never pass. Restore 3/4 of the amounts up for cuts, leave in the tax cuts for the wealthy and it will be hailed as compassionate and a brilliant idea, never mind that it gets them what they wanted in the first place.

He is trying to be all tough after getting his but kicked last time. This is DOA.

Again, Trump keeps using the same small collection of adjectives even in situations where they don’t really fit. My 1st grader has a larger vocabulary than Trump.

THIS IS RELEVANT!

The problem with Clinton was that she used proper sentence structure and had a vocabulary of an adult.

If you want to reach his supporters you have to use the same words and phrases (like “a lot of people are saying” and “everyone knows”). I know it is hard but Dr. Suess did it. He was made this bet by his publisher: “I’ll bet you $50 that you can’t write a book using only 50 words,”

It is like that Far Side comic where all they here is “blah blah blah” whenever you leave their basic set of words - an probably causes them to resent the speaker.

Anyway, until someone can do that effectively we will continue to wonder why they support him - he is the only one who speaks their language.

Russia is an oligarchic, homophobic authoritarian theocracy with a cowed press where dissidents get jailed or driven into exile: in other words, the GOP Dream for America.

Only difference being that theirs is a Protestant fundamentalist theocracy instead of a Russian Orthodox one.

I remember them flipping all over the Internet and media out when Obama maintained that “ISIS is not an existential threat to America”

I am sure that is largely because many of them did not understand the word “existential” and just bleeped it out, hearing only “ISIS is not a threat to America”.

Excellent point, and one I tried to make the other day. Again, it’s not about reaching the fox/GOP cult, since they’re beyond all hope - it’s about reaching the low-info voters and non-voters and winning over enough of them to put you over the edge in the states that matter.

We’re stuck with a dumbed-down, soundbite-driven electorate that only reacts to grandiose, simplistic statements that play on the most basic emotions. Obama actually catered to this with his 2008 hope/change rhetoric, and that’s the kind of messaging Dems need to come up with again (updated, of course, to clarify and stark-ify GOP threats to America)

The Prophet Isaiah had some choice words for Jared, Ivanka’s & Daddy’s performance art at the Western Wall:

When you come to appear before Me, who requested this of you, to trample My courts?
You shall no longer bring vain meal-offerings, it is smoke of abomination to Me;
New Moons and Sabbaths, calling convocations, I cannot [bear] iniquity with assembly.
Your New Moons and your appointed seasons My soul hates, they are a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing [them].
And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you, even when you pray at length, I do not hear; your hands are full of blood.
Wash, cleanse yourselves, remove the evil of your deeds from before My eyes, cease to do evil.
Learn to do good, seek justice, strengthen the robbed, perform justice for the orphan, plead the case of the widow.
