Natural News founder Mike Adams, aka "Health Ranger," in greener days

In another sign that tech companies are finally beginning to notice that some dangerously anti-rational groups and individuals have been running amok on their web networks, YouTube has given the boot to NaturalNews trash mogul Mike Adams, also known as Health Ranger.

Here’s what Health Ranger was featuring at his YouTube page a couple of days ago (all the videos show up blank because, well, they’re gone now):

A pungent and tangy mix of far right victimhood and far left woo-woo health quackery, wouldn’t you agree? Well, YouTube has now told Adams and his quarter of a million subscribers to scram.

Expect whining, lots of it. This guy is sort of a bush league Alex Jones type and Jones himself is reportedly on his second strike at YouTube. The wingnut universe’s creepy grifting “stars” are finally facing some pushback on the poisonous garbage they’ve been feeding people without consequences for far too long.

Some stats about gun owners (I went to go look it up because someone blew a fuse when a joke was made about 90% of gun owners not being in the NRA):

Three-in-ten U.S. adults say they currently own a gun, and of that group, 19% say they belong to the National Rifle Association.

majority of gun owners (61%) are Republicans or lean to the Republican Party, but NRA members skew even more heavily to the political right than other gun owners. This is part of what I hope is an accelerating trend toward schooling the masses in the difference between the outhouse law in which they have been indoctrinated and the real law that is the basis of civilized society. Trump was planning to run long before then. I do wonder how many years Trump had schemed about using politics as a way to further his brand.

Mueller will probably want to go back in time far enough to find out where the idea of stealing emails (of Hillary or the DNC) was hatched, and then who broached the source of that data.

Trump is probably more likely the opportunist than the originator of the idea. To him, “EMAILS” was simply a war chant for his masses. Trump himself probably doesn’t know the difference between an email server and a ladle.

Anyway, Mueller will have to have proof of who approached the Trump campaign, and whether the campaign solicited anything from such unsavory characters.

Personally, I suspect that Jr. is the idiot who left a trail of evidence. Jared (or Bannon) may be the true guilty party, but Jr. is so dull of mind he doesn’t know when he incriminates himself.

There are those who claim that Trump never really believed he would be elected, and that he really didn’t want the job.

I can believe this.

Trump mentioned years ago about getting into politics.

The plan was probably only intended to make the “Trump” brand even more established.

He may have thought that by running and getting some delegates, he could be the keynote speaker at the convention, get invited to the WH on a regular basis, etc.

This in turn would open doors for him internationally, as corrupt leaders all over the world would gladly give him money if they thought Trump could give them access to the WH and influence US policy.

Instead, what happened is that the GOP ran a busload of marginal candidates, and the Democratic candidate turned out to be someone who had been targeted for 30 years in a hate campaign that successfully poisoned the well against her.

So Trump wins.

But he is the most unprepared and unqualified person to ever take that office.

And that is illustrated daily.

This investigation is so far beyond Trump’s ability to navigate it that the only reason Trump is in office is because the GOP leaders are too afraid to do anything. They know they are damned if they do (anything) and damned if they don’t so they just try to get their own pet issues addressed while they control Congress.

The authority was granted by an act of congress, so I am sure they could if they had the support. Question is would they have enough to override a veto, and since there are already a number of rustbelt Dems and Reps that have come out in support I wouldn’t count on it.

I’ve always thought Cain overrated personally. Valley is the better cinema from a storyteller’s perspective. Cain was wiz bang flashy cinematography and tricks but in the end it was just a very meh story.

OFFS. Plagiarizing a plot is as old as storytelling. Shakespeare took practically every plot he ever wrote from somebody else, and others thieved his versions in countless plays, operas, etc. Where did the “plot” for West Side Story come from? There was a silly but sorta good New York gang movie called The Warriors very late in the 1970s. It was based on Xenophon’s Anabasis (roughly early 4th century BC). I watched a Pavarotti special on public TV tonight and heard at least 2 Elvis Presley hits in the original operatic Italian. Bach has made the top 40 more times than Gershwin (e.g., Whiter Shade of Pale). Plots, unless they are extremely original, which few are, are no more protected than titles, which aren’t protected at all. I haven’t seen The Shape of Water and probably won’t, but if I do, the very last thing I will care about is whether its plot was borrowed, copied, or flat-out stolen from some previous work.

Exactly where did I describe a case of “borrowing a plot with attribution, or at least acknowledging the source of inspiration”? Nowhere does Shakespeare acknowledge Holinshed or any of his numerous other sources. That was left to later scholars. Nor did I ever see a credit in West Side Story saying that it was based on Romeo and Juliet. Not having seen either of the films you’re talking about, I won’t argue whether the latter version “plagiarizes” the former in some legalistic sense, but I can tell you that there are very few if any truly original stories, and that if somebody tells the same story better than someone from whom he or she first heard it, then to me that second person is the better artist.

See, to me this makes it more understandable how it could be used without attribution, not less. Because it would be more tempting not to acknowledge such a marginalized, almost forgotten work as inspiration and claim sole credit. Either in thinking that one can get away with it because it is a relatively unknown work or that the creative mind behind it doesn’t really need or deserve the exposure (Zindel being dead already). This is also why I don’t find GDT being a well known, successful, and yes, an incredibly talented auteur, to be particularly exculpatory in the face of the evidence in this case. Whatever the motivation, talented successful artists, authors and academics have lifted content long after establishing themselves in their own right before.

Just finished watching The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, extended cut.

The few bits of extras do help, like with LOTR extended versions, because there is so much backstory.

Anyway, Tolkien was not shy about borrowing. His epic is a melding of myths common to many, with a great deal of reworking of Norse language and lore.

Also, the music by Howard Shore, even though very good, is not fundamentally different than a thousand other pieces of music written for a large orchestra. I doubt anyone can write a measure of music and have it be original anymore.

Attribution is important, but I believe that is often hard to do in so many cases. Where someone is obviously reselling another person’s work ought to be called out. Yet I wonder how much never gets mentioned, about where so much sold truly originates.

Canada being our #1 supplier of steel, the idea that this was meant to hurt them makes total sense. Those questions were answered on Friday when they released a statement declaring, “Yes, Blumenthal Research Daily is a fake pollster. The numbers used were random and I did little to no research before piecing together a rather sloppy google doc.”​

This new Blumenthal Research Daily “poll” is a good reminder that, especially in this day and age when it’s incredibly easy to spread “poll results” far and wide, it’s important to be careful not to get taken. Enten also wrote an article that we highly recommend about questions you should ask when looking at a poll from a group you’ve never heard of, or otherwise know little about. These include whether the poll looks professional (BRD and Delphi’s crappy websites were good indications that they weren’t professional operations); whether the pollster was revealing important details about the sample, like when it was conducted and what means were used; and what type of questions were being asked.
As the cycle goes on, we’re expecting to see a whole lot more polls from dubious sources. For those interested in the Israeli political mess I mentioned above that’s seemingly eclipsing the Netanyahu investigations: it’s all about two pieces of legislation that now have Netanyahu and the administration in a major bind.
The former involves the IDF service draft now affecting Yeshiva students who were previously exempt from service (due to an old law passed in the 1960s).
The latter is the legislation for the state’s annual budget, which is now being held hostage by minority religious parties in the Israeli coalition government due to the potential passing of the former.
It’s essentially extortion - the minority religious parties have just enough representatives to be able to threaten to kill the budget law and leave the government if the IDF draft bill passes as it is (which would bring about the administration’s and new elections as a result).
On one hand, the administration for the most part doesn’t want early elections, and has capitulated in the past to different demands to avoid that. On the other hand, the vast majority of the population supports the draft law, in part because IDF service is meant to be equal to all yet it still exempts hundreds of thousands (and was originally intended for just a few thousand religious scholars back in the 60s); this is an issue that also stems from a supreme court ruling stating that the previous arrangement was no longer acceptable in modern times. Not to mention that it would send the message that no one in the government has a shred of a spine.

There’s about a dozen more reasons both for why the government should surrender due to political concerns as well as for why doing so would be nothing short of catastrophic. In short - seriously damned if they do, only slightly less damned if they don’t.

By all accounts, based on reports from the past couple of hours, it looks as though by this time next week, the administration will either be greatly crippled due to capitulation or finished and the country en route to elections.
All while Bibi - who would have to face potential contenders from within his party before the elections - faces multiple police investigations.

Really long-winded explanation I’ll avoid, but in a nutshell:
1) Yes, the elections can always result in a political shift (right-wing has been in charge for nearly 2 decades, new elections could place the left-wing parties in charge). It’s what the current government doesn’t want, since there’s signs of left-wing resurgence after many years in the opposition.

2) The religious parties are generally represented the same way; think of big families where everyone votes for dad in a representative election, but never get votes from the neighbors or anyone else in town. So long as dads have the family votes, they represent accordingly. So the numbers they get are fairly consistent.*
Their main goal is generally not to be in charge but just secure specific objectives like securing budgets & legislation for their communities. So they’ve been in both right-wing & left-wing admins where having them along meant they got what they wanted & major parties got reinforcement on key issues.
In the end, it’s a numbers game, where any figure under 60/120 means the government is dust; if they regularly account for 8-12 together and leaving means the admin stands at 59/120, that gives them considerable bargaining power despite their really small standing.
3) Lastly, due to the Israeli law defining a minimum voter requirement, no party can have just 1-2MKs - minimum is 4 since 2013.

* This is barring splinter groups taking away votes, an issue of itself since Israeli law states that parties need to have a minimum number of votes to qualify for Knesset representation - so if there’s a big party X and a splinter-party Y, then Y can steal away say 110K votes from X and then not make it at all if the minimum is 120K, leaving X with 3/120 fewer seats compared to what they got originally).
My figures here may be a bit off but the rule is basically the same…

Apparently European cars sell better in Japan than American cars. It probably has something to do with consumers there wanting more fuel efficient cars and smaller cars to deal with smaller roads in Japan.

The US is something of a unique market since most of our cities were built, historically, recently. We tend to have wider roads in general. I mean, hell, all you have to do is watch a few episodes of The Grand Tour (or older episodes of Top Gear) and watch them try to navigate through old cities.

We routinely took a Chevy Suburban through the bridge gate of the medieval town of Cittadella. It required folding in the mirrors and a ground-guide.

I am fascinated by Trump’s alleged negotiating skills. Basically he’s threatening to breach NAFTA and other trade agreements by imposing across the board tariffs. But now he’s saying he will consider pulling back on them if Canada and Mexico come to the table to renegotiate NAFTA. He’s basically holding a gun to his own head and threatening to shoot the hostage.

In other, more terrifying news of general incompetence:

The State Department has spent $0 of $120 million allocated by Congress to combat foreign efforts to influence U.S. elections, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Despite the massive budget, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has done little to thwart a sweeping influence campaign by the Russian government, and an office tasked with countering such efforts has no employees that even speak Russian due to an ongoing hiring freeze.

Tillerson himself has continued to doubt the ability of his department to combat Russia, and just last month said that if Moscow wanted to meddle, it was “going to find ways to do that.”

Sorry guys, nothing we can do, just going to have to learn to speak Russian, I guess.

so they had to keep emptying out the building with all the lecture halls and search it
then reschedule the tests and start over

But there are plenty of big-body Japanese vehicles that are popular in the country. The Toyota Crown, Crown Majesta, Lexus LS600, Century, and the Nissan Cima/Fuga immediately come to mind.

When my brother was at UC Santa Barbara in the early ’70s the college library got so many bomb threats that they took to just noting them on a chalk board in case anyone wanted to leave.

Interesting question: if Nixon (or more likely someone at the RNC) comes out early and admits they knew and/or authorized the break in, what happens? Let’s say Nixon comes out and says something along the lines of “somebody mentioned this as a possibility but I didn’t take it seriously, that was my mistake.” Or someone at the RNC says “I was the one to authorize this action, the president knew nothing about it.”

Stupid Watergate, however, there’s just no way that this doesn’t end terribly for Trump. They’re engaged in a cover up because they know how bad the crime truly is.

Yeah? And for a lawyer - supposedly a smart lawyer - and also a smart lawyer who has worked for Donald Trump before, he didn’t get anything in writing? Or does he know his client too well?
If not, then Cohen is out $130M, and Trump can just blow him off (like he does with every other “contractor”).
But If he does have documentation, he’s just proved himself and President Trump out to be public liars - although that doesn’t seem to be much of an issue anymore….

Uh, Trump hasn’t been in office two years and the Mueller investigation only started after Trump fired Comey which was in May of 2018.

MrBWS has a 2004 Cavalier and he loves it.
It looks like crap, but the gas mileage is pretty good and it gets him where he needs to go (usually).

In fact we just sold our 2002 Cavalier this Saturday. Was just getting too old and rusted out to mess with anymore, even for the kid to drive. Would have cost more than I wanted to spend to get it inspected. Looking for another cheap car to pick up so the youngest boy has something to drive that I really won’t care if he puts it in a ditch :-)
