Reports: Trump Says Kelly Is “100% Safe.” Translation: He’s Doomed.

Politics • Views: 34,710

I hope John Kelly isn’t keeping a lot of personal belongings in his White House office, because he just got the Trump Kiss of Death.

Trump and Kelly met on Thursday, after which both men signaled that Kelly would remain as chief of staff for now, the Wall Street Journal reported. Trump said that Kelly was “100 percent safe” and Kelly told staff, “I’m in,” per the Journal.

Only question is whether he’s gone by the end of the day, or over the weekend. Trump has to make room for all the Fox News people he’s hiring.

Remember the report that Donny had asked Kelly to see about getting Javanka out of the White House?

Guess Ivanka sat on Daddy’s lap and asked him to fire Kelly for her.

Trump has completely screwed the State Department. He’s attempting to purge all federal agencies of career officials because he thinks they’re anti-Trump.

They’re anti-incompetent reactionary know-nothings.

That’s the difference.

They’re trying to do their jobs. That means keeping the nation safe and enforcing the laws. Trump doesn’t care about such things. He’s all about gutting government - sabotaging it.

Sabotaging the State Department means losing soft power abilities worldwide and giving our rivals free reign all over the world - Russia and China specifically.

They’ll fill the vacuum that Trump’s leaving in his wake, and Putin couldn’t have asked for a better scenario in which to exploit Trump and his idiocies.

If it is Kelly who wants McMaster gone why would they fire McMaster if Kelly is quitting?

Apologies for asking about logic from this White House.

If I was in the SK government I’d take this as a huge insult and cancel the trip.

Any one of the Assistant Secretaries of State (especially one of those related to the purpose of the visit) could fill in. That would be the usual protocol if for some reason the Secretary’s office was vacant.

Instead we get Donald Trump’s daughter, and zero outrage from conservatives.

I caught at the end of the last thread the bit about Corey Lewandowski may be the replacement for Kelly.

Uh, wasn’t almost the entire excuse-making GOP glad when Kelly was picked over Priebus because he was going to stabilize the Oval Office and help make The Don more presidential?

So, should hot-head, woman-pusher Lewandowski become Chief of Staff are we to assume the GOP is going to be fine with it all going completely off the rails? Because it will.

The firings will be daily. Well, that would be what is left of the staff and cabinet, because I bet there will be a bailout of a lot of them with Lewandowski heading it all up. Lewandowski will thug-up everything and run an in-your-face setup.

I really think it’s partly Russia’s idea. Turn America into a third-world (or fourth or fifth) country, take over Europe, start strip-mining North America.

Yup. When wingnut school boards or superintendents started announcing they would punish students for protests or walk-outs, the ACLU issued a public statement (and letters to said people) that while a school can punish someone for a walkout, it can do no more than it would for any other student skipping a class. Moreover, if that school made an announcement that is specifically was punishing students for exercising their I Amendment rights, the school would be open to lawsuits from parents or civil libertarian organisations.

Well, he’s basically realised that nobody is going to stop him. So, he may as well make the White House just like the mob gang he liked running the Trump Organisation. That means his kids are de facto royal family, and everyone else is a henchman/G-man. Of course, since he’s a somewhat demented FOX addict, the other people he trusts are the people he sees on TV, so they get in too. America is now more or less like Saudi Arabia - a crime family masquerading as a country.

And he’s right - nobody’s going to stop him. Democrats will try, once they retake the House, but the US media will stop them from doing so.

I’m sure they have (and so would I), but unfortunately, at this juncture, the Koreans probably don’t have much of a choice. Though I’m sure their inter-governmental communications are likely to contain some rather undiplomatic language…

My own pet theory is that Trump (desperate for any sort of positive accomplishment) is going to try to gin up some sort of impressive-sounding Big Fucking Deal Agreement with the North Koreans over their nuclear program. And what that is likely to entail IMO is basically a reversion to the original Clinton-Era policy: i.e. pay the Norks enormous bribes to put their A-bomb programs on hold.

And I think the South Koreans are getting the sinking feeling that THEY, not the US, are going to be expected to pay for it.

My son is trying to decide if he wants to do something at is school on April 20th (Spring Break was this week here). I’m in a really conservative area, basically meaning that for this situation a lot of people here don’t believe guns are the problem. He’s talked with some of his classmates about the shooting and the MSD student’s response. Most of them are noncommittal, but a few mock those students. If a shooting were to happen at the school, you would here lots of parents and students say “I never believed it would happen here.”

No Presidential Proclamation on the death of Rep. Slaughter, though this being Trump, I didn’t really expect to see one. (Past Presidents have issued proclamations regardless of party.)

Interestingly, the state governor of New York has not issued one either. I imagined Andrew Cuomo would have already done so.

Perhaps I should make a suggestion to his comment page on the official state governor’s Website?

On the other hand, not every single opinion deserves a place in public discourse.

If your opinion is that high school students aren’t informed enough to opine on the gun situation in this country, you are a fuckwit.

I don’t care if your name is Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Scott “Dilbert” Adams or Shropshire Slasher. If that is your “take”, go fuck yourself.

If it is Kelly who wants McMaster gone why would they fire McMaster if Kelly is quitting?

Apologies for asking about logic from this White House.

Reports I read say that Trump wants McMaster gone because of his briefing style, apparently Trump thinks he’s condescending. Which, frankly, I think most people would be if they had to explain international affairs every day to a five year old with the memory retention of a gold fish.

That comment really was uninformed. As for said teenagers, they are brilliant. They have the NRA and a whole lot of Republican politicians and pundits desperately trying to wrench the conversation away from what they see as the issue: guns.

No matter how much people like Dana Loesch or Marco Rubio try to act offended, try to deflect to other issues (like mental health), or whatnot, they wrench the conversation back to the real issue: the availability of weapons-of-war for mass sale.

They’ve organised walkouts. They’ve organised a march in Washington, DC. They do not care if they are suspended from school or shamed by conservatives on social media. A woman was kidnapped in Vallejo, California a couple years ago in a very bizarre manner. After she was held for a few days and raped, she was dumped near her parents’ home in Huntington Beach.

The police discounted her and her husband’s story as a hoax. The case was later solved by a different police department, and the woman sued. She was just awarded a $2.5M settlement by the courts for the egregious behaviour of the police department.

They could have been part of the conversation on “how do we solve this so we can reduce the risk in the future?” Instead, they dug in their heels and insisted on their absolutist stance.

Now the conversation is leaving them behind, and if they continue in their reticence, they will no longer be relevant in this discussion.

Gov. Cuomo of New York has now released a statement on the passing of Rep. Louise Slaughter.

governor.ny.gov

“Louise Slaughter was a champion for New York who had a larger than life presence in Rochester area politics. For more than 30 years, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives with unmatched charm, sharp wit and an insatiable passion to improve the lives of everyone in her community.

“As Dean of our Congressional Delegation, she made all New Yorkers proud. With her training as a scientist, Louise fought for fairness and led the way on the major issues of our time, from environmental preservation to women’s rights to attracting 21st century jobs in cutting-edge industries like photonics.

“She was trailblazer, a partner and friend ever since we worked together for my father more than four decades ago. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her, but she will not be forgotten anytime soon by all those she served.”

Oklahoma Republicans are concerned about the state’s Kansas-style economic miracle. (I’m also guessing they are concerned about the upcoming election.) When the wingnuts took over in Oklahoma, we bailed out of the state. (We can’t afford to do that again.)

apnews.com

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — When the GOP took full control of Oklahoma government after the 2010 election, lawmakers set out to make it a model of Republican principles, with lower taxes, lighter regulation and a raft of business-friendly reforms.

Conservatives passed all of it, setting in motion a grand experiment. Now it’s time for another big election, but instead of campaigning on eight years of achievements, Republicans are confronting chaos and crisis. Agency budgets that were cut during the Great Recession have been slashed even deeper. Rural hospitals are closing, and teachers are considering a statewide strike over low wages.

“I’m not scared to say it, because I love Oklahoma, and we are dying,” said Republican state Rep. Leslie Osborn. “I truly believe the situation is dire.”

Oklahoma’s woes offer the ultimate cautionary tale for other states considering trickle-down economic reforms. The outlook is so grim that some Republicans are willing to consider the ultimate heresy: raising taxes to fund education and health care, an idea that was once the exclusive province of Democrats.

Well running unopposed in the general is probably Heller’s best chance of keeping the seat. Tarkanian lost the seat last go around 47-46, and has a tendency to sue his opponent for defamation if he loses (apparently he actually won a suit once, so that just encouraged him).

it’s Texas. Republicans are scared…

You’re not cynical. In Montana, the Green Party has disavowed a candidate who registered to run in Montana’s Senate race as a Green who is really a Republican.

Montana Green Party candidate was on state GOP payroll (Goes to the Great Falls Tribune), more at the link:

HELENA — A man who registered as a Green Party candidate for Montana’s U.S. Senate race was on the state Republican Party’s payroll and heads a newly formed anti-tax group, according to a review of election documents.

Timothy Adams filed as a challenger Monday against Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, who faces a tough re-election campaign, in a race where a Green Party candidate could siphon votes from the Democrat.

The Green Party qualified as a political party in Montana on Monday, which was also the state’s deadline for candidates to file for office. Green Party officials blasted an email that morning to solicit candidates who could register by the day’s end.

Adams was one of six people to file as a Green Party candidate for the races on the ballot this fall. A total of seven people are looking to unseat Tester, including four Republicans vying for their party’s nomination.

Adams’ name and phone number is the same as the treasurer of Montanans Against Higher Taxes, a group formed to oppose a legislative referendum on the ballot this fall for a 10-year property tax extension for the state’s university system.

I think perhaps the best way to hold onto a job in the Trump Administration is to have someone leak that he’s just about to fire you. He’ll keep you on, for a while at least, just so he’s not “predictable”.

BTW, people knowing what you’ll do to appear “unpredictable” is pretty much the definition of predictable.

It seems like just a year ago that we were being assured she had no official role in the White House aside from “advisor,” that she would keep out of official business in order to avoid violating laws against nepotism.

Or the state of Louisiana (with roughly the same population as Chicago and its suburbs) and its much higher homicide/suicide rate by firearms.

The issue on “Chicago, gun violence, hair on fire!” is not-very-hidden dog whistle for “black.”

By Mr. Shapiro’s logic, Massachusetts should have a horrible death rate, not states like Louisiana, Missouri, and Arizona.

The data is clear: States with more restrictive laws by-and-large have lower overall homicide and suicide rates with firearms (even when they are next to states with lax laws).

Murders in US very concentrated: 54% of US counties in 2014 had zero murders, 2% of counties have 51% of the murders

Not all murders are by firearm, though the overwhelming majority are.

When dealing with murder rates you have to be careful with sample size though.

A couple years ago, there was a murder near here (in Angora). Angora has a population of 1. (That person wasn’t murdered, a person from Colorado was murdered, his girlfriend’s car set on fire, then he was transported to the North Platte River and dumped in it in a barrel. The murderer was caught in Cheyenne on a traffic violation and has been convicted of the arson and murder.)

So that year Angora had the ludicrous murder (and arson) rate of 100%.

As is obvious from my many posts on creationism here, I often center my interest on this topic to the US.

But I have pointed out that other places, too, have their similar problems.

India is one such place, where religious fundamentalism and extremism (usually Hindu groups) can be just as unhappy with science, though in the case of India and Hinduism it is more about nationalism.

Did Stephen Hawking Diss Einstein For Vedas? Science Minister Says So

Harsh Vardhan, the genial science minister has quoted British physicist Stephen Hawking to back claims that Vedas are essentially are a theory of everything. The minister today said that the cosmologist, who passed away this week, had said the Vedas have a theory that is superior to Albert Einstein’s equation.

“Stephen Hawking said on record that our Vedas may have a theory that is superior to [Einstein’s] E=MC2,” Dr Vardhan told a gathering of 5,000 scientists at the Indian Science Congress.

The thing is, Chicago is literally on the border with one of the most populous parts of Indiana, whereas the CA border with NV and AZ is largely unpopulated on both sides.

And Indiana has much laxer gun laws than Illinois. When I lived in Gary, it had one of the highest murder rates in the nation, something like one per week for a city of 150,000
(current population: 95,000)

I saw that on local news. They showed the aftermath of all the chairs on the lift smashed into a tangled big pile where you can see them stopping in the video.

They video they showed was even longer. I think it started a bit earlier and showed one group of people getting flung like rag dolls. It reminded me of the unfortunate ride that broke at the Ohio State Fair two years ago that killed the one young man.

I guess that answers my next question which was going to be if you ever went to any Murray the K’s Brooklyn Fox theater shows. (and I’ll guess the answer is no.)

They were WILD—these were the two I went to:

April 17, 1965
Murray the K’s Greatest Show | Brooklyn Fox
Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Martha & the Vandellas, Temptations, Four Tops, Marvelettes, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Del Satins, Rag Dolls, Cannibal & the Headhunters, Righteous Brothers

September 3, 1965
Murray the K’s Labor Day Show | Brooklyn Fox
Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Beau Brummels, Little Stevie Wonder, Jordan Christopher & the Wild Ones, Martha & the Vandellas, Temptations, Lovin’ Spoonful, Brenda Holloway, Patti & the Bluebells, Del Satins

Back then, Forest Hills, Westbury Music Fair(when it was still a tent theater) and the beach clubs on the south shore were my most frequent concert sites (I actually saw Simon and Garfunkle at a beach club way back when.)

This ain’t rocket science, the current administration (and most likely the GOP leadership as well) are up to their assholes in treason and corruption. Broken generator source of gunshot reports near Denver (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald):

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — Authorities believe a malfunctioning generator at a supermarket was responsible for making sounds similar to gunshots in suburban Denver last month.

Multiple people reported hearing gun shots the morning of Feb. 23 near a shopping center, leading to warnings for people to stay inside and tightened school security. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released a video with what sounded like over a dozen shots being fired and asked for help finding a possible witness seen in the distance.

Chelsea Clinton is referring to Don Jr’s children, who are minors.

She also was on the end of wingnut rage when she was in the White House as a child, as was Amy Carter when she was.

Republicans have a long tradition of attacking the minor children of Democratic presidents. Chelsea Clinton is noting we should be better than that in the case of Uday’s divorce proceedings.

Fox is owned by a foreigner (Murdoch) and a foreign government (Middle Eastern). Murdoch has family members with close personal tires to Putin.

So, you’re close. Really close.

Lamb, who declared victory in the race early Wednesday morning, gained 125 votes during the canvass; Saccone gained 108. By the end of the day, Lamb’s overall margin over Saccone grew to 644, greater than the hundreds of military and overseas ballots that will be counted before the state certifies the election.

As I noted a few days ago, Ms. Daniels executed an elegant checkmate by offering to return the $130,000.

If they take it, then they have admitted there is an NDA. If they refuse it on the grounds “there is no NDA,” then she is free to speak.

If they try to sue (ignoring lying about an NDA), then they are opened up to discovery. Michael Cohen claimed he paid her personally (which my poor understanding of the law means he could be disbarred). No matter where that goes, they are opened up for the discovery process in a lawsuit.

He’s more concerned with getting to push the big red button and can’t think through the consequences of his disastrous actions. The Denver Post is slashing staff, as it is owned by a late-stage capitalism hedge fund stripping its assets.

“It’s painful — there’s a knot in my gut to see what we built up over time torn down in this relentless way,” [Greg] Moore told me. He was the paper’s top editor from 2002 to 2016, when he stepped away, disheartened by what he called the “harvesting strategy” by the paper’s parent, Digital First Media, which in turn is owned by a hedge fund, Alden Global Capital — one of the most ruthless of the corporate strip-miners seemingly intent on destroying local journalism.

I tried to talk to someone in Alden’s New York headquarters on Wednesday to ask about the apparently counterproductive strategy of endless cuts but was told no one was there to speak to the news media. When I asked to be connected to managing director Heath Freeman’s office, the receptionist hung up on me.

One of my biggest fears. Those who didn’t jump got hurt badly. Fortunately, not seeing anything about fatalities.

The gearbox on the drive station failed, which set the chairs in motion. Looks like it took a minute or two for the lifties to engage the emergency brake. That’s a Doppelmayr lift, probably the most popular lift brand in the world, with an impeccable safety record. That is, if the lift is maintained properly. This is in a former Soviet satellite state, so maintenance and oversight was probably virtually non-existent.

Hey, Charles. I can’t upload pics from my phone any longer. I’m always told the file sizes are too big. Any suggestions?

Make them under 500kb. Usually this can be done by making sure they are jpegs and using a moderate compression setting.

I imagine that the money came from the campaign account, meaning it was almost certainly illegal (unless somehow Trump can argue that sex is a from of consultation.)

If the world does what it needs to, the judge at the New Nuremburg Trials might knock a year or two off of Zuckerberg’s sentence for this.

The media largely fails to understand Trump because they refuse to accept that Trump is the most immediately dangerous tumor coming from the underlying cancer of the Republican party.

It really needs to be said that men like Kelly are in the military to get their rocks off about learning to kill brown people (and sometimes actually doing it). Any benefit they provide to the USA is at best incidental, and is certainly not why they’re in the military.

Well, retired General Kelly was an officer, so as an enlisted recruiter I would have had nothing to say about him if he’d come into my office.

People like that looking to enlist I would show the door. (Even in western Massachusetts there were a lot of people like that, who wanted to go kill [bigoted words] or other even less-savoury terms.)

I don’t see any options for either. I’ve turned off the “moving” static picture thing but other than that I see no settings. This recently happened but I’ve not changed any of my settings anywhere.

I heard an interview with John Lurie a few months ago. He said “I had to get the fuck out of Worcester”; even with WPI a soul-sucking environment, according to Lurie.

This goes way beyond the usual conservative cruelty. They haven’t said what it was that was supposedly so bad he needed to be fired days before retirement … it had better be a damn good reason or McCabe is going to have them for lunch.

You need to use a graphics program. On the Mac, the Preview software that comes with the operating system can do all this.

There isn’t one and we all know it. This is petty vindictiveness and for once, it just might come back to bite them in the ass.

Kelly’s panicking

[Embedded content]

Here’s what likely happened: Trump was mad at Kelly for talking him out of firing Tillerson when he was in Kenya. Trump had been mad that McCabe let Comey fly back on a government plane after he’d been fired. Trump is just really eager to strand someone far from home and make them take a commercial flight of shame. Kelly, seeking to worm his way back into Trump’s heart told Trump the bit about Rex being on the pot during the phone call. Trump LOVED it, it hit all his fucked up buttons, scatophilia and humiliation of someone he’d grown to hate all in one. Tillerson had called him a fucking moron so he wanted everyone to think of old Rex taking a shit while being told he was being let go. Trump loved it so much he told Kelly to tell everyone, which Kelly did because Kelly is now a dignity wraith.

That has been the most obvious possibility since day one of this eternally exploding cesspit of an administration.
