Mitch McConnell Doesn’t Seem Too Worried About Our Super Dangerous National Emergency [VIDEO]

I hope you’ve got stores of canned goods, bottled water, dehydrated meals, and masking tape for your windows, because we’re in a state of emergency now.

[…lights hair on fire, runs in circles screaming…]

Apparently there’s an invasion of crime-committing, raping, murdering monsters happening on the southern border of the US, although nobody but Donald Trump can actually see it.

But it’s comforting to know that not even a SUPER DANGEROUS NATIONAL EMERGENCY can stop the president* from enjoying yet another golf weekend.

It isn’t fair to say that the invading horde is only in Trump’s tiny mind.

Hordes of swarthy hottentots and mau-maus swarming across the US southern border has been a staple of Fauxaganda for decades.

This is the filing I’ve been waiting for today. The SCO says evidence in Roger Stone’s case was found in accounts that were searched for the GRU case, in which 11 Russian military officers were charged with a conspiracy to interfere in the election. pic.twitter.com

re: #9 Backwoods_Sleuth

In other words, Mueller found the links between Stone and the Russians who were out to manipulate the outcome of the election from the evidence gathered in the case that resulted in the indictments against a bunch of GRU agents.

This is the conspiracy against the US that we’ve said was present. This is the collusion Trump and Barr and other GOPers want to ignore or bury (or end Mueller’s investigations).

We’re finding evidence of Russian influence all over Trumpworld.

Two weeks ago had to write up a detailed document, 6 pages of data, on a guy who was falsifying data. No one could unravel it all except me. I got it all laid out, HR is doing their paperwork. Guy doesn’t know yet. He’s a gun nut and has been confrontational with other employees, including women. But nothing actionable. Also a MAGAt

He called me on Monday to tell me he’s in love with me. He is obsessed with me. I will be responsible for his firing and he will know it. He has guns. NO.

I told HR and my boss immediately. He has been banned from campus. My boss has insisted I not go to the parking garage without him. I hate guns, I will say it right now, but my boss is former military and an expert marksman and carries legally. I feel a whole lot safer.

I don’t want to hear it about a bullshit crisis on the border. The crisis is right…fucking…here. Men, women, and guns is a crisis.

It wasn’t what he said, but the way he said it. He lapsed into a sing-song cadence that was half-middle-school-taunt and half-serial-killer. No president in my lifetime ever did voice acting, let alone a voice that made you want to make sure he was kept away from the White House cutlery. The man is not all there. Everybody knows it. If your uncle behaved like the president* behaved on Friday, you’d hide his car-keys, lock up the booze, and drive him to the neurologist.

IMO this is bad advice. Anywhere they have enough power, Republicans will take obviously bad census results at face value to grab more power. E.g., a lefty census boycott could cost CA several House districts in the 2020 reapportionment.

Decide they really “told the truth” about lacking citizenship, whether they “actually have green cards” or “are illegal” no longer mattering, and thus not consider them as part of the population for apportionment purposes. Magically, Colorado doesn’t get her 8th CD from Minnesota, Cal loses 20 and they mainly go to places like MS, AL and possibly OH.

Stone got gagged!

talkingpointsmemo.com

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued a gag order in the Roger Stone case Friday, a move that was anticipated given Stone’s publicity-hungry ways and given that the judge imposed a similar order in the Paul Manafort proceedings.

However her order, as it pertained to Stone, was limited to banning him from commenting about the case in front of the courthouse, where media often gathers before and after proceedings. The ban includes comments “intended to influence any juror, potential juror, judge, witness or court officer or interfere with the administration of justice.”

The lawyers involved in the case, as well as witnesses, are more broadly banned from making public statements that “pose a substantial likelihood” to materially prejudice the case.

re: #70 piratedan

if you’re staying home, I would also make sure that he doesn’t know where you live and to be sure, if he’s dismissed, the HR department should be sending out a notice to make sure he doesn’t press a co-worker for more personal details about you… sorry, you HAVE to take this seriously, but then again, they opened the damn door here, they should be taking extraordinary steps to ensure not just your safety but that of all of the employees. Your own security staff should know that he’s persona-non-grata as well as the local LEOs.

Make sure that you have protection at home, windows and doors secured, alarms set… you may even look at taking time out of town… it sounds that serious to me…

I am taking it very seriously. I leave Monday to be out of the country for 2 weeks. No one at my company knows my address except for my boss. For better or worse, this is the second time I have been through this and I knew from the day I was hired to hide personal information. In 12 years, no one has been to my house. I am that paranoid about workplace stalking and/or violence.

So the framework is there to keep me safe but I still have to be extremely careful.

I have read Gavin DeBecker’s, “The Gift of Fear,” several times. May sound dumb but I pay attention to that book, and my own life experience. I am extremely careful. This whole thing pisses me off and I am pissed I have been so careful since this happened 15 years ago. And here we are again.

Moscow (CNN)Michael Calvey, a US citizen and one of Russia’s most prominent foreign investors, has been detained in Moscow in connection with a large-scale fraud investigation, a spokeswoman for a Moscow court told CNN on Friday.

Calvey is the founder of Baring Vostok Capital Partners, an investment company established in 1994 that has raised at least $3.7 billion in capital, according to its website.
A Russian court ordered Friday that Calvey’s detention be extended for 72 hours, Moscow’s Basmanny court spokeswoman Yunona Tsaryova told CNN.
When asked about the charges against Calvey, Tsaryova declined to comment but said that a session would take place Saturday to impose pretrial restrictions.
Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported Calvey was detained along with five others, including three Baring Vostok employees; Alexey Kordichev, chairman of the board of directors of Vyatka Bank; and Maxim Vladimirov, general director of Perviy Collector Bureau, a debt collection company.
Earlier, Tsaryova refused to confirm to CNN how many people were detained or their identities, saying, “It is subject to investigation.”

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of Russian Direct Investment Fund and a close adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, vouched for Calvey when learning about his detention.
“I know Michael Calvey and his team at Baring Vostok as highly professional investors committed to the highest ethical standards,” Dmitriev said on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
“I am ready to personally vouch for Michael Calvey and believe that he has done a lot for attracting foreign investors to Russia and helped many Russian companies grow and mature.
Baring Vostok said in a statement that “the detention of its employees and the charges that have been brought are a result of a conflict with shareholders of Vostochniy Bank.”
“We have full confidence in the legality of our employees’ actions and will vigorously defend their rights. Baring Vostok’s activities in the Russian Federation are fully compliant with all applicable laws,” the statement said.
According to RIA Novosti, Calvey owns a controlling stake in Vostochniy Bank.
Baring Vostok’s investor base is predominantly drawn from pension funds, university endowments and sovereign wealth funds, according to its website. Since the fund’s inception, it has invested more than $2.8 billion in 80 companies across Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and other parts of the former Soviet Union, the site says.
In addition to being Baring Vostok’s founder, Calvey is listed on his company profile as a senior partner. He has lived in the UK and United States and worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Salomon Brothers.

Correction: This story has been updated to correct the number of Baring Vostok employees detained.

Aurora mass shooting updates: 6 dead, including gunman, and 5 officers wounded in attack at Illinois manufacturing firm

Six people, including a gunman, died in a mass shooting at a manufacturing firm Friday afternoon, and five officers were struck by gunfire, officials said.

Authorities confirmed the shooter, Gary Martin, 45, was killed in a shootout with police. Police believe he was an employee at Henry Pratt Co. in the industrial park in the Chicago suburb, and said they did not know the motive.

Anyone who has been triaged in a hospital emergency room knows damn well what an emergency is, and that likely includes a significant fraction of the members of Congress.

The issue of immigration to the US, both legal and illegal, has festered for decades. It is the exact opposite of an emergency.

re: #127 Romantic Heretic

If you stay home make sure you have a police guard. This asshole is going to be on the front page and you don’t want to be there with him.

I alluded to it before but I had this happen to me 15 years ago. I ended up having to leave the job for my own safety, file a restraining order, delete all of my social media, basically lock down. Had to vary my routine because he would pop up on “accident.” He knew where I lived. He was known to be violent and beat his ex wife. I had a 1 year-old son at the time.

He fixated back on his ex-wife, violating HER restraining order. Then, boom, he disappeared. Gone. Went to L.A. and started his life over. I keep tabs on him through people in contact with him. They tell me and his ex where he is….she and I are good friends now. Still in L.A. He came back for a funeral a couple of years ago and they warned me. I did not leave the house.

So I already have one of these assholes to monitor. Do not need another.

Acevedo was Chief in El Paso, where he instituted a very successful Community Policing regime that resulted in bringing ElPaso’s crime rate down BEFORE the wall was built. I met him there, and then he came to Austin to be chief here. I know Art. He bought my wife’s cousin’s house. We were on speaking terms. He pissed off the Old Boy Network in Austin and made reforms. Mixed results.

Then he went to Houston. It hurts me to see him twirling in the wind like this. He’s a good guy.

Eminent domain has been a hobby horse of the conservative movement for a long while. That was one of those issues that united the conservative and libertarian elements of the Federalist Society back in the day. Kelo v New London was a big deal when I was in law school because it basically made almost anything a “public use”.

Maybe a lot of them will say that the wall is a legitimate public purpose and so this particular case of eminent domain is acceptable. But regardless of what logic they use to justify it (assuming they do), it’ll just be another example of how cheap they were willing to sell their political souls.
