Another Master Finger-Picker: Hwajong Kim, “The Dance of a Marionette”

Music • Views: 21,208

YouTube

This is my new video of my second digital single album
‘The Dance Of A Marionette’

I expressed a doll tied to a thread, dancing to the music.
It seems to move happily as people control, but on the contrary, It wants to escape from the strings that control Itself and be free.
But at the end of the music, it finally fails.
I played it imagining a doll’s heart, seemingly unable to recognize its facial expression, possibly forced to dance in front of the audience, all the time.

It’s becoming more and more difficult to watch talking heads on cable news reporting Trump’s activities from some mental no man’s land in which they feel unaffected by the corruption. At least the late night comedians act like they have some skin in the game.

To continue from the last thread, the (made for tv) movie that really messed me up as a kid was Sssssss. There were a number of those movies that were kind of disturbing. There was the one with tarantulas that had William Shatner in it. There was the one where the family gets brainwashed by having their eyes forced open for a really long time.

Not quite sure you answered his question, but I let my middle son read a couple of the Incarnations. Death and Time I thought were pretty good. I never finished all of them, though.

I read Pet Semetary and The Hajj in the eighth grade. I might have read some equivalent books earlier, but I don’t remember. We didn’t have a lot of books.

The local DSA is complaining about the new ballot design for Los Angeles County where there are two columns containing all the candidates running for the Democratic nomination. They’re upset that people won’t find Bernie and that the ballot has been “deliberately designed” to reduce Bernie votes.

On my sample ballot, Bernie is at the top of the second column but Elizabeth is at the very end of that same column.

Get ready for another round of “rigged primaries” from the sore losers!

Yes.

US media stories follow a manufactured narrative. Sometimes certain individuals can take over that narrative, but by and large the narrative is determined by editorial choice. And the few people that make those choices subscribe to a certain view of American culture, which they shape deliberately through the influence of their media platforms. That culture is not one where a liberal woman can gain power.

If you don’t feel like burning a WaPo article on it, I’m responding to a first-order comment calling for a single nationwide primary date (actually, probably a single nationwide primary with no delegates generated) in June.

My point is that the only viable candidates this year would have been Bloomie and Bernie; MAYBE Biden and Warren could have put together the funds too.

He has a fair chance. That being said, the economic impact from the Wuhan Coronavirus is just starting to be felt.

If the situation continues to deteriorate, we could well see a global economic recession by this summer…..just in time for the 2020 elections. Just yesterday, Apple warned that it won’t be able to meet quarterly guidance due to the 2019-nCoV outbreak and manufacturers worldwide are starting to make noises that supply chains are gonna break down real soon.

That being said, I don’t doubt the Fed will engage in some pretty serious quantitative easing in order to juice the economy and that guess on my part is probably why Wall Street keeps going up and up - they think the Fed will stop at nothing to keep the party going. All of the QE in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, while understandable, has created a gigantic moral hazard. Realistically, markets should be reacting to this news. There seems to be a massive disconnect between Wall Street traders and basic economic reality - it’s more than just algorithms at play.

As an illustration into the evolving global economic impact of the 2019-nCoV outbreak, there’s this from the Financial Times (this is an archive version, because normally, FT is behind a paywall):

South Korea’s president warned that “emergency steps” were needed to prevent a growing crisis in the country’s China-reliant economy, as the fallout from the deadly coronavirus outbreak reverberated across the globe.

President Moon Jae-in called for “all possible measures” to support South Korea’s economy, a day after analysts said Japan was facing a technical recession with the coronavirus disrupting regional supply chains and exports.

“We should take every possible measure we can think of” to support growth, Mr Moon told a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. “The current situation is more serious than we thought . . . we need to take emergency steps in this time of emergency.”

Underlining the growing impact from the virus, Apple, the world’s most valuable tech company whose iPhone is built in China, admitted revenues would be lower than forecast because the economic disruption from the virus had “constrained” production.

Here in Czech Republic, Škoda Auto is getting nervous about some Chinese-manufactured parts/components for their vehicles. They stocked up a little bit in advance of the usual Chinese New Year production halt, but now they’re growing increasingly concerned as their stockpile will run out by the end of this week and they don’t have replacements.

Not just instant availability, but cost as well.

For example, I could likely never afford the desktop computer I’m using if the components weren’t made in China; that’s just a sad reality. Nor could I afford my mobile phone if weren’t (almost entirely) made in China.

Unless governments are willing to subsidize the costs to consumers for non-Chinese-made products, China is going to be the world’s factory for the foreseeable future.

And of course, there are those who would say, “Well, you don’t really need Product XYZ” - which is the same as telling people, “Well, guess you just can’t have nice things, sorry about that”.

Good luck to those folks….though I think they might find themselves a little bewildered when they find themselves the guests of honor at an impromptu “necktie party”.

yunno, if we were competing with China entirely on wages, then I guess that would be okay, it would be our incentive to work more efficiently.

But we are doing that: the US and Europe have some of the world’s most productive workforces. So why are real wages in decline?

We are also competing with nations like China over health, safety and environmental costs, which are very low in places like China as such regulations are a lot more lax if they exist at all, and then if they are even enforced.

So not only are we shooting ourselves in the foot, we are giving those nations zero incentive to clean up their own act.

Trump has his highest approval rating in three years at 44.4% at 538.com. A majority still disapprove of him at 51%. My guess is that with the entire GOP and rightwing media, Romney excepted, clearing him of serious wrongdoing and an election coming up, Republican voters are putting their misgivings aside. Trump still has the worst net approval at this point of his presidency of any President since Truman, so he has a tough hill to climb to achieve reelection.

The entire right wing has not “cleared him” of anything in reality because they are not concerned with his actions at all. They could care less because they consider themselves in an active war against 98% of the world, its modernity, and the majority “liberal” population in America in particular.

The right wing in this country consider themselves soldiers in a holy war demanding absolute allegiance no matter the actions of their commander. Trump’s actions do not matter just as long as they do not diminish the red line of White Supremacism. They have told me so in no uncertain terms and they are not afraid anymore of revealing their intentions and beliefs. All you really have to do is ask them directly.

Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Feb 19, 2020 • 5:07:52am

Waking up this morning, I more and more get the feeling that Bernie is really messing up this election.

There is a fundamental problem with Bernie and his followers - they’re not able to accept the dangers of the effect they have as a minority in this society while trying to pretend they are a majority.

This is where election problems begin - not accepting that other people are never going to vote for you.

So a winning strategy always has to be one which goes out and looks for those who will vote for you.

And Bernie and his supporters don’t seem to realize that the US electorate is composed of a vast number of people who will never vote for someone that the talking-machines will point out supported Stalin. Whether the claim is True or not, Bernie’s long history of not engaging critically with the real world is going to haunt him.

Substantial problems exist in our society and big ones are lurking on the horizon and good leaders will always try to convince the masses that difficult choices are best made by convincing people of the sacrifices that will have to be made, and that those sacrifices need to be made for the benefit of the most people.

Trump fails at this miserably. But so does Bernie (which is why his legislative record is so empty of accomplishments.)

Trump and the GOP are relying on the bread-and-circuses approach to government, with a very heavy emphasis on circuses.

And Bernie doesn’t seem able to grasp how important it is to counter the GOP social narratives. He’s so stuck on his belief of 60+ years that if only we implemented a different economic system that would solve our problems.

But we all know that the systemic issues of racism and bigotry and hatred transcend economic divisions.

The Fed has to keep the interest rates low, once low interest rates end, the spending party is over, IMHO.

With inflation remaining low, there really isn’t any justification for increasing interest rates.

re: #70 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

The irony for me is for all the talk about Revolution it’s anything but. It’s a 79 year old man’s vanity movement just like it was for Ron Paul.

re: #44 Dr Lizardo

It’s early 1929 all over again. The crash is coming.

Yeah no doubt about that. Our interests aren’t the same. That’s what infuriates me about Trump’s stupid “Wouldn’t it be nice if we were friends with Russia?” We got along best with Russia, well the USSR actually during WWII and that was a marriage of convenience for both of us despite FDR’s “Uncle Joe” naivete. I’d be fine with being allies with Russia if they were democratic, respected human rights, and respected the sovereignty of their neighbors but they don’t and Putin certainly does not.

Berniebots are just as brainwashed as MAGATs. You cannot engage in a constructive dialogue. Even when you ask how Bernie will pass anything with McConnell in the driver’s seat blocking everything they still insist he will get his way.

If he gets in he will find himself in the same situation as Cuthbert Olson the agnostic Socialist California Governor elected in 1938 who was completely held in check by a Republican legislature. The EPIC movement tried three times to recall Olson because he failed to enact Sinclair’s EPIC plan for the state.

Berniebots will turn on Bernie and he’ll be lucky to last his single term.

And she is getting punished (as per usual) for stating actual policies rather than spouting platitudes. I will say that I was surprised to see what looks like a cooperative media agreement to act like she doesn’t exist in the nomination process. That she is considered a threat by the financial sector I already knew. That it extended to the media like this, I did not.

Before we all get too apocalyptic (remember, I’m the pessimist around here…), let us remind ourselves that indeed a majority of Americans have negative views of Trump, and for that matter the GOP.

That Trump sits in the office is problematic.

That Trumpers are full into denial is problematic.

But more of us outside the Trump-delusion actually recognize Trump for what he is.

And that is why the 2018 elections went the way they did.

So there is hope in 2020 that as a collective we can stop Trump and his know-nothings and malicious creeps.

Argentina was free market as well. I think a lot of what the Friedmanians and Reaganites pushed was pure bigotry. Everyone loves to see Reagan telling Gorby to tear down this wall and ignoring his very real support both political and financial for the dictatorships in Latin/South America and other places. Autocracy is autocracy no matter what side of the economic game they play.

Yup. 2 states have voted/caucused.

And so far Buttigieg is the frontrunner by the metrics that count: delegates.

Yet who’s being treated as the frontrunner? Bernie. Weird.

Who’s being treated as the rising candidate? Bloomberg, who’s buying his way into the debates with a massive ad buy. Money talks. Bloomberg is the very kind of billionaire that the GOP positioned Trump as - “self made” business genius. In this case, Bloomberg is actually a self made business guru who is worth something like 20-30 times what Trump is worth (and Trump inherited that fortune). Bloomberg also has a very public record, and has won elected office before. Running NYC is a higher profile position than most and he represented more people and a more diverse population in NYC than in 37 of the 50 states (8.1 million).

Of course, that comes with all the scandals and problems - stop and frisk, his comments about policing, race, and other assorted views. All of that should be vetted and rightfully so.

But there’s a reason that he’s rising in the polls - he’s also willing to attack Trump early and often, and defeating Trump should be job 1. Attacking other candidates is secondary but in a crowded field, the only way to distinguish in a crowded field is to go after others, especially when the differences in policies are granular and don’t really matter when you go into a general election and still face a Senate that is GOP controlled.

Problems to address:
1. win the WH
1a. overcome media messaging (and this applies to everything from how women in the race are represented to ignoring Bernie’s health issues to minorities and who would best protect their rights while media plays their narrative games, etc.)
2. retake the Senate
3. expand control in House

Bloomberg has already said that if he doesn’t win the nomination, he’d still help Democrats downrace and WH runs. That’s what we need. We need the ad buys to help defeat Trump and the GOP. He gets that. And that’s why his support keeps growing.

Yeah, I’d like to dig into this some more some time. I see this and the separation of wage growth at the beginning of Reagan’s presidency, thought it actually started just before he took office. But the trend grew throughout his presidency.

I’ve only really ever known the US in the post Cold War. I think we’ve made a lot of advances in my lifetime but at the same time, the reactionary ideologies that have come about in this timeline scare the shit out of me.

6 media conglomerates between them control almost all of broadcast, cable and newspapers.

Tech with streaming is making inroads into media; but they’re their own problem. What Sacha Baron Cohen calls “The Silicon Six”, my broker calls the FAANGs (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google). Twitter too, but “T” doesn’t fit into the acronym.

Actually I would point the beginning of America’s decline at October 1973 the first OPEC embargo. Statistics show that point was the beginning of the decline of the middle class.

From a purely economic point of view, yes, the oil embargo is something we had a chance to recover from but refused to do.

But 2001 saw us the victors of the Cold War and undisputed leader of the Free World, Russia was a wreck and China was only just starting to flex its economic muscle.

In part it was America opting to put its head in the sand after Carter asked for austerity and some belt-tightening to deal with the energy issues.

(Oil in the US is a very weird thing. The country is a major producer with a lot of political interest centered around protecting that and associated price controls to keep the industry profitable. At the same time the country is a net oil importer and thus has an interest to keep oil prices as low as possible to help keep the economy running. And at this point oil exploration in the US is pretty much priced out for the most part.)

And we chose to bail out Chrysler rather than just let it die a normal death which is what the Free Market is all about: unprofitable companies are supposed to fail and clear the way for better, more efficient ones.

I wanted to play football when I was a freshman in high school. In hindsight, a bad idea for a lot of reasons but anyhow. We knew heart conditions ran in my family since my mom’s father had a murmur. I got my heart looked at and I got diagnosed with hypertrophic cardio myopathyahy. Cardiologist was adamant that I shouldn’t play football. I did not. If you’re not familiar with that condition, it’s the one that you read about athletes getting posthumously diagnosed with it. when they suddenly have a heart attack on the court or whatever.

Anyhow this gets back to Bernie. He’s a man who turns 80 next year and would be 80+ for his entire presidency and he’s had a heart attack. I don’t think too highly of Bloomberg but there’s a difference between an irregular heartbeat and a heart attack and Sanders would be in a stressful job especially for him since he wants to fundamentally change a lot of our government system. And he’s not the best at delegating either.

So yeah I’ve had it with how the Bernie campaign acts like the Trump campaign more than any other campaign in the Democratic race. They are dishonest. They deflect. And honestly it feels almost like they want to make Bernie into a martyr by continuing to trot him out with his known heart issues. The young people supporting Bernie are quite honestly being morons and I could be a lot meaner than that.

Bernie’s issue will be a major matter, discussed and analyzed in detail in the media if he is the nominee, while Trump will just wave a note from his White House Physician and that will be the end of it…

We know that. That’s why it’s imperative that Democratic voters not help that by nominating Bernie. He’s going to be over 80 for most of his presidency for fuck sake. God, where did we go that our top answers were three guys born during WWII and I genuinely like Biden but the mid-tier Harris, Booker, Castro, Booker, Gillirband all got fucked because they weren’t promising the world, the benefit of universal name recon, and tons of money.

Bernie is a left wing Trump at this point. I’m going to really be disappointed in our system if it comes down to him nad Trump. I don’t like a lot of the things Bloomberg did as mayor of New York but I don’t mind candidate Bloomberg as much since he’s nearly the gaslighting asshole that Sanders campaign is. That said, we could and should do better.

Exactly. Bernie first got elected when I was 3 years old. I turn 33 this summer. He’s had plenty of opportunity to pass bills and make them laws but he’s never been interested. Seriously he’s got the worst of Ron Paul- an egotistical backbencher who thinks he’s always been right and the worst of Trump- constantly attacking and deflecting on to his oponents.

FATANGs…

I’ve always put it right around Reagan and Stockman.

To his credit, Stockman understood belatedly the fallacies of “supply-side” economics and disavowed his own program around 2010. By then the crash had happened and the slide of the middle class hastened.

The Republican Party of 1854 was better than any other major party of that era. I think if you want my opinion, the trouble began when hte GOP discovered it could get the votes of whites resentful about Civil Rights and make that an issue.

Bruce Bartlett went heretic in 2005.

Almost more like “whites who were told they should be resentful about Civil Rights”.
