Yes, except that “making voting easier” vastly increases the chances of there being “fraud” and “criminality” associated with elections.
Mainly the “crime” that Republicans won’t always win.
(and however much I’d like to think that this is just snark, I have the feeling that this is a prevalent attitude among a nontrivial segment of Republican officialdom in this country)
re: #10 jaunte
No-bid contract. Those are the keywords. DT can say he did this but since it is a no-bid contract there are very few if any regulations that will guarantee the items will work.
So the tweet by Lincoln’s Bible about his cough and how it scattered the mask-scoffers led me to his pinned tweet (and I’ve followed some of this before) and DT and the Mob. There is enough there to play with for several days. He needs to write a book!
re: #12 Patricia Kayden
Holy shit. Granted, it’s one poll, but if that trend holds up in other polls (except Rassmussen, they’re totally in the tank for Trump/GOP) then I can only imagine that the GOP leadership is gonna be shitting bricks around September or so. And by then, it’ll be too late for them to throw Trump under the bus.
I guess they’ve decided they’re going down with the ship.

I’m generally happy with the way Chris Sununu (R-son of asshole John) has been handling things here in NH, but he’s wrested control of federal aid from state Democrat-lead legislature’s oversight and, yep, his first uses of money have been to give no-bid contracts to his republican supporters (like $450K to a developer to use a hotel ballroom as a “command center”). They just can’t help themselves.
(And a pet peeve is that he stands in the way of full legalization of weed when all the surrounding states have legalized and you can buy it in Mass*, soon in Maine, and in Quebec if you could get across the border. *They suspended sales, but will start up in the next week or so.)

I really wouldn’t be surprised that if he loses to Biden, he’ll resign after having worked out some kind of blanket pardon for him and his family/cronies with Pence, then he’ll hotfoot it down to Mar-a-Lago and use his Florida residency status there in an attempt to fight extradition to New York state if they bring charges against him. Meanwhile, Pence takes over as little more than a caretaker President to run down the clock until Biden is sworn in and McConnell will be ramming through judicial appointments nonstop until he can’t anymore.

remember right now mar-a-grifto is a club, not his personal residence
if he buys a cheap condo (cause you know he wont spend money) to ‘qualify’ a florida home for residency purposes so he can keep mar-a-grifto open as an income producing club (and legally vote), then the condo would be the homestead that’s protected in bankruptcy etc

He’ll also have to deal with this little issue
Trump made Florida his official residence. He may have also made a legal mess.
…neighbors and attorneys have unearthed documents that they assert call into question the legality of Trump’s much-publicized decision late last year to change his official domicile from Manhattan to Mar-a-Lago and to register to vote in Florida using the club’s address. According to those documents, and additional materials obtained by The Washington Post, Trump agreed in writing years ago to change the use of the Mar-a-Lago property from a single-family residence to a private club owned by a corporation he controls.

Trump will be fleeing to his choices after his defeat:
1. Brazil, currently ruled by a fellow nutcase right wing loon would be his first choice. But severe repercussions for Brazil would make that a temporary home at best. Extradition for criminal prosecution treaties and all that. And Trump’s notorious and transparent racism would blow any remaining lid off from Brazil’s current racial tensions.
2. Hungary. Currently ruled by a pretty much straight-up Nazi. Similar extradition problems would arise since they are still an EU member. A small place like Hungary would be just a matter of time before Trump’s own ego wants out or there.
3. Russia. This would be a lesser favored choice as Trump’s massive ego would take a serious hit being from in the flesh just Putin’s bitch all day every day. These two authoritarians can’t stand each other but would benefit Putin by selling his own country as the safe haven in the world for “unjust” American courts. Trump the coward would sell his soul to stay out of prison and Russia would be a means to do it and be able to still screech to a 35% American public audience.

WASHINGTON—On the heels of touting the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine for treating Covid-19, President Donald Trump issued orders to the CDC Wednesday, urging the agency to conduct extensive research into his investment portfolio to find more potential cures for the novel coronavirus. “Look, there’s all sorts of stuff in here that could help with the disease as far we know, so let’s start giving people some luxury spa treatments and see what happens,” said Trump, demanding that the country’s leading public health institute conduct clinical studies to see if an hour or two a day on a Floridian golf course could significantly reduce the need for a respirator. “Even just a couple of studies showing that Pepsi or Microsoft products can help neutralize the spread of the virus would be really amazing. Remember, people are dying, so we need everyone working around the clock to make sure that none of my financial interests are overlooked.” Trump added that in order to expedite the process, all further study would occur at the CDC’s new state-of-the-art facilities at the Trump International Hotel.

We need a historic blow-out, a rout of epic dimensions, something about which songs and poems will be composed for the next thousand years.
If Trump has to go down like Hitler in the bunker, so be it. If the goober militia launch their boogaloo and have to dealt with by force, so be it . Their time is up. It is time to show them this great truth. The first time a vigilante gang’s blasted remains have to be dug out of a crater, make sure there is video and make the rest see it.

So if Pence gets COVID-19 and dies who takes over his spot as VP?
In practical terms, nobody (ref. the 25th Amendment):
Assuming the Trump-bolts-and-leaves-Mike-to-deal-with-the-shit scenario, he (Pence) would nominally have to nominate, and have both Houses of Congress confirm, a replacement VP. Which Ain’t Gonna Happen in the (30? 40? days) any Pence Administration might have til the next lot take over on January 20.
So if Pence croaks before Inauguration Day, without a confirmed successor as VP, the normal rules of Presidential succession apply: thus Mme. President Pelosi (for a bit, anyway).
BTW, if you just mean VP Pence kicking the bucket in general, the 25A still applies, it would be Trump who would have to submit a VP nom for confirmation (as long as he is still President) - though how long that would take -?? - still looking at the possibility of President Nancy until and unless a VP is sworn in…..

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stopped House Democrats for now from seeing secret grand jury material from former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation into the Trump administration and Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election.
The court, without noted dissent, agreed with a request from the Department of Justice to put on hold a lower court decision granting the House Judiciary Committee some previously undisclosed material from Mueller’s investigation.
Solicitor General Noel Francisco told the Supreme Court it should withhold the sensitive information until it could review for itself significant separation of powers issues raised in the case. Despite the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Congress has no immediate need for the information, Francisco wrote in a brief to the court.

Which Branch Covidian Is The New Rosa Parks Now? Some Dumb Ass Barber In Michigan. (Wonkette)
Protests included a Yooper county sheriff.
Wednesday, the hair deprived are set to storm the Capitol in Lansing for “Operation Haircut.” This astroturf extravaganza is a sequel of sorts to the idiotic “Operation Gridlock.” Both were organized by the far-right Michigan Conservative Coalition. The group claims this protest is in “admiration and support” for Karl Manke, a barber in Owosso who broke the law and opened his barber shop despite several “stop that!” orders from the government. Manke had his license revoked and is now involved in a big, showy court battle. Fellow scofflaw Shelley Luther from Dallas, Texas, traveled more than 1,000 miles to support Manke. (No Zooming when “freedom” is at stake.) There are photos of her hugging the 77-year-old barber she’d just met. Neither wore masks. My son is going to grow up in The Omega Man future.
The “American Patriot Rally — Sheriffs Speak Out” was held in downtown Grand Rapids at Rosa Parks Circle, so of course Leaf compared Manke to the civil rights activist. He called the barber a “little version of Rosa Parks” and asked a crowd that included armed members of the Michigan Liberty Militia to “imagine” a world where Parks never sat in the front of the bus. It’s easy if you try.

Anti-lockdown demonstrators trade guns for scissors at Michigan ‘haircut’ protest
Hundreds of protesters turned out to protest Michigan’s stay-at-home order on Wednesday — and get free haircuts.
Toting signs that read “End tyranny,” “Live free or die” and accusing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of “killing small businesses,” demonstrators rallied outside of the state Capitol in Lansing as part of “Operation Haircut.”
Several barbers were in attendance, giving free trims to demonstrators. Some of the barbers and protesters were not wearing face coverings. Many of the demonstrators also stood within 6 feet of one another as they waited for their cuts.

re: #248 Sherlock Hound

Yes, particularly since:
a) HIPAA (not HIPPA) does not apply to such places as grocery or department stores; it applies to medical providers and others who use your medical information, and
b) The ADA only requires a business to provide reasonable accommodation. It does not require the accommodation the person demands.
c) Threats to sue are common amongst both sovereign citizens and conservatives. To sue under the ADA however, you will have to demonstrate your disability in a court.
While it’s conceivable a person could have some sort of disability preventing wearing a mask, and a business is not allowed to ask what your specific disability is (privacy), they do not have to allow you on their private property if you do not abide their rules. Moreover, making a scene and such is grounds to throw someone off their private property anyway.

I gotta say lizards, I am pretty despondent right now. I see just insane amounts of crazyevilstupidmean around me and I honestly do not know how to cope. Maybe I’m just a snowflake, but come ON. It’s not just COVID-19 that’s a virus that’s gonna kill us, the just mind
boggling hate is going to take even more of us. I mean, shooting people because of being asked to wear a mask? Hitting and kicking and screaming at others for wanting to stay safe?
We have a deep, deep issue here that goes far beyond this virus. And I wonder if THAT’S the thing(s) that will eventually be our complete undoing.
I’m trying to remain optimistic, but I am worn down from this. And just sad. Very deeply sad.

That is one thing that is great about LGF. We all live in different communities but we do not suffer ALONE.
Everything sucks now. Hug your loved ones (including Cleo)

We are half ape, half angel. At the moment, the angels are on holiday. OTOH, cannibalism seems to be down.

If people found out Trump had an undisclosed illness his supporters would just shrug.
Oh no. His jockstraps would be praying for him.
re: #346 I Would Prefer Not To
Another thought about the LP ad. They are not only distracting trump with this but parscale and he’s one of the keys to the relelect trump op. Divide and conquer. These people know what they are doing.
Yep. Get a little germ of suspicion rolling in Trump world, and you’ll have full-on paranoia in no time flat. People in Trump’s orbit don’t trust one another on a normal day. Get them infighting and stand back and watch them self-destruct.
Also, the main thing that Wilson and company did when aiming at Democratic opposition was drive up negatives. Trump’s negatives are pretty high to begin with, so if they can move the needle a little bit more - especially among Republicans - that will really damage Trump 2020.
re: #349 The Pie Overlord!
Thanks. And huggles right back to you. This is one of the few places I can find some solace in this fucking shitstorm. Thanks to ALL of you for your kindness.

I used to hate brussels sprouts, but now I love brussels sprouts.

Have faith because Karmic retribution is coming to Trump and his enablers. It’s going to strike when that ass least expects it. But it IS coming!

No update yet today to the Chester County, PA COVID-19 stats. The update time has gotten a bit erratic over the past week or so.
