Even with the national Republicans throwing all their weight behind Feenstra, his lead over King is now less than 1k.
Feenstra just knows which parts to not say out loud.
And it will still make me happy to see King lose anyway.
Democrats took the other three seats in 2018. We can take this one in 2020.

re: #8 Belafon

King supporters are the heart of Trump supporters. Is there any real difference between the two men in terms of ideology? It is chilling to deal with those who remain Trump adherents — friends and family — who, outside of politics, seem like decent human beings but metastasize into something evil when politics arises. But maybe that’s because, for most of us, we end up treating issues like racism and immigration as political and thereby avoid confronting these problems in our conversations.
Good effing riddance.

Today I decided that I had to spend time on something else besides news (once it appeared that he wasn’t going to attempt to send troops to the states today). Nebraska continues to add more information to its so-called dashboard of Covid-19 information.
They’ve now added American Sign Language videos to explain the information on the page. The page is also available in English, Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and French. (Nebraska has the highest population of refugees per capita of any state.)
I think the initial stifling of information by our governor wasn’t going over well, since they keep expanding what’s available. To be charitable, they may also have had limited information because they had to set up an interactive Website collecting information from ninety-three counties (many without Internet service), numerous cities, and eight public health districts.
Statewide:
nebraska.maps.arcgis.com
14,611 cases (+266)
Total hospitalisations: 851 Active: 194
Largest age group: 55-64, then 65-74
Recovered: 6,161
Largest age group: 20-34, then 45-54
Hospital beds available: 42%
Deaths: 181 (+11)

The concept of alpha maleness exists to kite disproportionate aggression and treating all interactions as power struggles as somehow natural and good as opposed to authoritarian and crude.
I mean, it’s a special kind of stupid and weak to use a debunked descriptor of a predator social hierarchy to describe a within-species, within-socialization interaction. It’s the participation trophy of evo psych pseudointellectual schemes. Might as well give yourself a ribbon for pissing on a lamp post.
re: #84 The Ghost of a Flea
The concept of alpha maleness exists to kite disproportionate aggression and treating all interactions as power struggles as somehow natural and good as opposed to authoritarian and crude.
To those who actually study the topic of animal behavior, the whole alpha thing is just part of a complex system of interaction, and is more descriptive of the position a creature currently occupies within the pack/clan/herd rather than its innate traits.
re: #82 goddamnedfrank
All Lives Matter was the slip showing on whites uncomfortable with BLM.
The words themselves said in good faith should reinforce, uplift, BLM’s message, but how they’re applied is simply whataboutism.
Blue Lives matter is the further elaboration of white supremacy intersecting with boilerplate authoritarianism: if a policeman can die on the job you cannot address the specific phenomenon of people killed by the police because…implicitly…police “survival” simply has to include a discretion to kill and it is wrong to question this axiom or call for accountability.
In many respect, it borrows from the manifold of bullshit used in reactionary gun culture: there is a deliberate linguistic walk-around the base assumption that the person using lethal force cannot be legitimately doubted in their discernment of threat.
AG Barr is advancing President Trump’s threat to treat protestors as terrorists, telling states that the Justice Department is preparing to use Joint Terrorism Task Forces as part of responding to protests. This is inappropriate and anti-democratic.https://t.co/LrUVEtGLl3

Pretty much anyone the GOP nominates would vote the same as King - they’re the party of lockstep and monolithic voting since GOP uber alles is stamped on them.
I’d still rather have King sidelined by *his own party* since it still is a bit of a statement that he’s gone beyond some kind of pale. Or at least enough people have decided that he’s too much of an asshole to tolerate compared to someone else. Feenstra might well be Nazi-lite and as racist (but not openly saying it), but I view him as ultimately being no worse than King.
re: #93 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)
Feenstra might well be Nazi-lite and as racist (but not openly saying it), but I view him as ultimately being no worse than King.
Therein lay the problem, though.

Feenstra will be a shiny new toy by which Iowa Republicans can feel cleaner in voting for him than they would King.

so you’d view the Iowa GOP voters keeping King as a mistake (or potential mistake) and thus wouldn’t want to stop them from making such a mistake.
Will also have to see if King takes his loss in stride and accepts future political obscurity, or tantrums in some way before departing.

For the majority of them, if they’re turning their backs on Trump now, it’s because he’s ceased being an asset and started becoming a liability.
True, not the content, just the delivery…
They could always count on their base getting out to vote. I cannot see many of them turning to the Dems but maybe some of them will no longer feel as zealous about supporting DT…
Authorities in Wuhan separately said that city-wide testing of 9.9 million people that began in mid-May found no new cases of Covid-19, and 300 asymptomatic cases. China does not count asymptomatic cases - meaning people who are infected with the virus but do not exhibit symptoms of the disease - as confirmed cases.
And
There are fears the increased use of antibiotics to combat the pandemic will strengthen bacterial resistance and ultimately lead to more deaths during the crisis and beyond, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned.

I’m assuming investigations and being certain of what laws were broken and how to write the warrants. Arrests for arrests sake is pointless if you don’t have the laws behind the arrest. These are people who didn’t kneel on the guy, they just did nothing as he died.

Totally get that. What I’m saying is which laws were broken in doing that and how did their failure to act break those laws?
I guess you have to think like a lawyer because that’s what’s going to result in convictions. I don’t give a shit about arrests, accountability comes from convictions.
That’s what I want across the board, accountability, convictions, sentences, forfeiture of monies and property, etc., etc., etc., for everyone from trump down.
Real accountability, real ramifications. That’s the only way all this shit stops.

We had some light rain earlier this morning in Moravian Silesia, but aside from that, it’s been mostly cloudy with some sun breaks. This weekend should be decent - about 70 F (20 C) with clear skies.
From a friend on FB:
White people:
Hey, yo, ummmm… Black people. So, we really don’t think you should be looting and rioting as a way to protest against us murdering you guys
Black people:
But we are angry
White people:
Yeah… we get that, we really do, it’s just, we just don’t want you breaking our stuff, is the thing.
Black people:
So what do you want us to do?
White people:
Maybe you could find a way to peacefully protest us killing you?
Black people:
Like kneeling during the anthem?
White people:
Nooooo… not that. It’s like a sacred song… and the troops and all that
Black people:
Could we wear tshirts with the victims names on them?
White people:
Are we going to have to see you wear them? Like, are basketball players going to wear them for warm ups on tv and stuff?
Black people:
Yeah
White people:
No, we really don’t like that idea either
Black people:
Could we storm the capital building with AK 47s?
White people:
No. That’s just for us when we can’t go to the salon. We’d probably kill you if you tried that
Black people:
So what do you want us to do then?
White people:
Maybe you could like march around some streets together with each other like MLK did in The 60s.
Black People:
But you killed MLK and those marches never stopped our people from being killed
White people:
Sounds great. I’m glad we could clear this up.

We can hire better cops, requiring college degrees, mostly women and poc. It will cost a lot of money, so a federal police reform bill should include lots of money for state and local governments so long as they adopt reforms to change police forces into public servants instead of armies of occupation.
and again, we need a separate mechanism for investing and prosecuting alleged Police crimes.
DAs are used to working with the police on most cases to obtain indictments and convictions. Asking them to investigate suspected police malfeasance constitutes a conflict of interest.

Trump’s a bunker bitch who needs the troops to expand the WH cordon to keep peaceful protests from being seen and heard inside the WH - showing how weak and small Trump is.
Warren strode among the crowd without a care in the world yesterday (other than covid19 masking precautions). Trump is too much a whiny little bitch to do anything of the sort. He’s reviled by everyone except his cult base. And the GOP keeps sucking up to him, even though they should know better.
Fuck ‘em. Let him destroy the GOP. They are irredeemably awful and should be destroyed for their amoral bulkshit and institutionalized racism, misogyny, and hate of all things that aren’t rich white guys getting richer while burden shifting to everyone else.
Remember, the GOP are the ones who love to claim Democrats are into redistribution of wealth. Well, during the Trump economic collapse, billionaires got fuck-tons wealthier, while 25% of Americans found themselves unemployed.
And guess what GOPers - the CBO is predicting that it might take a decade or more to recover from the Trump economic collapse. That means years of awful economic conditions thanks to Trump’s epic failure to heed any of the warnings by public health experts to act.
So, again, fuck Trump, fuck the GOP, and fuck all the enablers.

from electoral-vote.com 6/1/20
A new Washington Post/ABC News poll taken May 25-28 and released yesterday has Joe Biden at 53% and Donald Trump at 43%. There are two noteworthy aspects to this top line. First, it is a double-digit lead. There is no plausible way Trump can lose the popular vote by 10 points and somehow win the Electoral College. A 5-point loss…maybe (but unlikely), but 10 points, no way. Second 53 + 43 = 96. You probably knew that. And you probably also know 100 - 96 = 4. That means 96% of the voters have already made up their minds. Now one more bit of math. This time, an inequality rather than an equation: 43 + 4 < 53. This means that even if every undecided voter breaks for Trump, that’s not enough and he still loses. The election is still 5 months away and much can change, but as we pointed out last week, both campaigns believe that only about 5% of the voters are undecided, and this poll is consistent with that belief.

Trump was able to count on his rabid base turning out en masse. Even if they are not about to change over to the Dems, they might find their enthusiasm dampened and not turn out in the numbers they did in 2016, whereas an awful lot of the people who stayed home then have learned their lesson.
I agree. The important task is to get out our voters — trying to persuade the GOP base is a futile task. My post should have highlighted the 2nd statement: that the comment applies to those who were still devoted to him at the beginning of the year. Those who voted against Hillary rather than for Trump could be persuaded.

He knows that is an image that his target audience will just lap right up.
So next he just goes full out and posts bodies hanging in a concentration camp?
