The pro-disease mob has been reduced to its indivisible core of reason-rejecting suicide troops. They will have to be shoved, pushed and perhaps blasted out of the way for this to succeed. No more appeals to sweet reason or even self interest. You might as well try reasoning with a pack of hyenas who want your fresh carcass for lunch.
President Biden is kicking ass and naming names.
Frum noticed this as well:
If I were a Republican candidate in 2022, I would want to talk about food prices, crime, border security
Instead Biden just enflamed the Republican base to the point where Republican candidates have little choice but to champion the right to infect.— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 10, 2021
Did I mention how great it was to see President Biden finally start taking it to the right wing noise machine? All it took was a global pandemic.

The GOP have sided with covid19 and against public health and safety.
The GOP have sided with antivaxxers and against life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (because you can’t pursue any of those when you’re dying in an ICU hooked up to machines that make you breathe because you can’t do it yourself thanks to covid).
The GOP aren’t pro life, and they’ve removed all doubt by siding with antivaxxers and claiming that they’ll fight Biden’s vaccination mandates/requirements.
The GOP will ignore the facts and the laws, which include explicit vaccination mandates for other communicable diseases that are far less dangerous at the moment than covid.
For instance, Utah’s idiot governor claims that he’s going to take action against Biden’s vaccination mandates, all while Utah itself mandates vaccinations for all students entering K-12, the University of Utah mandates vaccinations to attend, etc. Every state has vaccination requirements for students. Covid is just one more.
re: #5 lawhawk
It’s the fucked up political climate we’re living in (Thanks Fox News!). That’s the only explanation as to why THIS particular vaccine is causing such a ruckus.

We all know damn well that if Trump was still President, he would be pushing this vaccine super hard, and states would be happy to mandate it. The vaccine itself is still the same substance; the only thing different would be the party in power. There is literally no reason to oppose the vaccine unless your only goal is to fuck with the Democratic administration.
re: #7 Dopamine Fish
Ehhh, I’m not confident he’d be pushing vaccines that hard.

Actually, he wouldn’t and they wouldn’t. Liberal states would be scrambling to get their hands on the vaccine, and therefore Trump would declare it a liberal hoax, all while using FEMA to confiscate any vaccines acquired by those states. He would then send it to Florida, Missouri, and Texas, where it would go to waste in the rural areas that are receiving ten times the amount of vaccine they need.

I’m done with that lot. I am ready for Biden to come out and DEMAND that every American breathe oxygen just to get rid of a bunch of them.
After a post denouncing Biden as a tyrant and accusing those of us who called TFG a tyrant of hypocrisy, my Trumpster FB friend now a new post: claiming Biden’s speech was a distraction from Afghanistan. Is this a new thing from Noisemax or did she come up with it on her own?
I heard a talking head on NPR yesterday after this speech say that those who have been totally opposed to Biden (and common sense) were not even listening. Biden was talking to HIS base.

Key and Peele did a funny skit once where Obama was purposefully proposing things Conservatives were in favor of, because he knew they would not want to be seen to agree with him on anything and so would have to publicly support the opposite (i.e. the more liberal stance) to keep their GOP cred.

re: #9 Eclectic Cyborg

My reasoning is that he would have a vested interest in “fixing” COVID under his Presidency, thus securing his place as a national hero (and basically, in his head, letting him do whatever the fuck he wants). Notice that he stopped talking up Operation Warp Speed and the ongoing vaccine development as soon as it became obvious that he was no longer going to be President.

This is likely (and quite unfortunately) true: As with David Frum’s Tweet above, while the anti-vacc/COVID-denial position may be an “unpopular” stance with the public as a whole, the puerile oppositional defiance to - well, reality - is insanely popular with a large-enough minority bloc to make it a serious issue wrt to dealing with the pandemic. Which, of course, affects everybody.

Biden was talking to everyone because he would like the pandemic to end. Those who know the pandemic exists heard his message because they also want it to end.
That’s a fundamental difference between Biden and Obama, and Bush and Trump. Democrat presidents are presidents to the whole country. Republican presidents are presidents to 45% of the country.

The Overton “window” now looks like stained glass. Ya got the Q guys, the hard-core anti gov guys, the Trump GOP guys. And the “establishment” guys, that only recently started needing quotes around the word.
re: #25 Eclectic Cyborg
Yeah.
The weird thing about Frum though is that his mother was a major liberal media figure up here in Canada. I guess being born in privilege kept him from becoming the same.
re: #27 Romantic Heretic
Yes, I remember watching Barbara Frum interview celebrities and politicians on the CBC. She appeared to be a nice person. Kind of shocked that her son is so rightwing although I’ve read that Susan Rice’s son is also a Rightwinger.
re: #24 Romantic Heretic
My take is that he, and a number of other conservatives abandoned the Republican Party when it became both a personality cult and an authoritarian party. What caught my eye was his tweet back in 2017 that a large group of his colleagues, if given a choice between abandoning their values or rejecting democracy, would reject democracy.
I may not agree with his policy choices, and reject a number outright. But I do agree with his choice to place democracy as the priority value.
This, to me, goes directly to the central value in life, the Golden Rule. A value that is rejected by many in the GOP right now. (And which is pointed out in various restatements, such as “Laws bind thee and protect me”.
re: #25 Eclectic Cyborg

Wasn’t David Frum more of a neocon — you know in John Bolton mold — who didn’t really support (or maybe care about) GOP domestic issues but was eager to spread democracy elsewhere? So neither Trump nor Biden would be good in FP terms, but he would be opposed to the Trump domestic agenda and very opposed to the Trump attacks on democracy.

Yes, Frum made a name for himself as a Bush (The shrub) speechwriter. I have always viewed the Bush clan a a more polished and less needy (but just as greedy) version of Trump. (You do not get to be a clan of multi-billionaires by caring about anyone else.)

Bush clan are millionaires, not billionaires. And there are a whole range of issues on which they differ from Trump: they are very interventionist in FP, they were pro-immigration, they were not racist or sexist, Bush got legislation to provide coverage for pharmaceuticals. When it comes to the economy and taxation and Roe v Wade, Trump and Bush would march in lockstep; on other policies, not so much.

If you punch any lady, you are likely to cool off in a cell. Identifying these people and notifying their employers seems to work well. I’d like to use a lasso pole like those used on dangerous animals to drag them out of the school board meeting and kick the shit out of them in the parking lot, but it’s better to let exposure ruin them.

Until something like the lady purposely coughing on people in the grocery store is considered assault and/or attempted murder/manslaughter there probably isn’t much you can do as retaliation. I’ve always been of the opinion that if these fucking people love Stand Your Ground laws so much it would be a shame if someone stood their ground against their blatant assault.

YESSSS! Finally, my nightmare scenario is almost over!
My favorite snarky Canadian is back with a new cult movie review, this time, Runaway, starring Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons, a sci-fi/police procedural from 1984, written and directed by Michael Crichton.
Runaway went on to be a staple of 1980s and early ’90s basic cable. Both Selleck and Simmons turned in good performances, though the film itself got bogged down in cliches. The film did accurately predict things like domestic robots, video mail, social media, the Internet, voice-activated computers, biometric security (retinal identification), camera drones, tablet PCs, wireless headsets, and that police officers would use semi-automatic pistols as standard sidearms (in 1984, most police officers were using revolvers).
Overall, not a bad film really - an interesting premise that could’ve been better executed and the spider robots were perhaps the most memorable thing about this flick. One of those films that could be successfully remade with the right screenplay and a solid director.

They are paid by the purchasing government(s) for the vaccine, so it’s not like the manufacturers are taking it in the shorts here. However, they have waived patent enforcement for the duration of the pandemic, in the interest of ensuring sufficient supply, so at least in that area, they aren’t making as much money as they could.

No, and obviously also it’s not like these manufacturers are making bank on these vaccines. They make so many other, more profitable medicines, and there is a PR advantage to basically selling this at cost or close to it for as long as COVID is still a problem.
re: #58 Punish Domestic Terrorists
I agree with you.
My reasoning is that I want to minimize my time (and money) around a jerk. Doing something that brings in the courts is going to cost me more time and money.
Further, there seems to be an infinite amount of jerks out there and a limited amount of me. Involving myself in educating one is not going to make a dent in the supply of jerks. But will make a significant dent in my life.
For one attorney’s viewpoint:
Generally self-defense allows you to use only the amount of force reasonably necessary to deal with the threat. What’s the reasonable amount of force necessary to handle someone following you and coughing on you? Probably a shove at most unless they then keep following you. https://t.co/yLhcvd3JlM
