Absolutely love the tone of that guitar, every time I hear it. It’s incredibly balanced and clear.

Whoa, VS Code has a MySQL extension that also handles MongoDB and PostgreSQL, and you can edit databases and tables and collections right in a freaking VS Code window without ever using a terminal or a web app. I think I’m in love with this extension already. This is going to make my life so much easier.

Tweeting is fine.

But I want Biden on TV twice a week, maybe a Youtube/TikTok/Twitch event once a week, and perhaps a podcast and a radio show once a week.

The reason Biden’s approval has been slipping is because he is out of sight.

Out of sight, out of mind.

And in the vacuum the propagandists of fascism will fill enthusiastically.

It’s been awhile and maybe I’m misremembering, but isn’t the usual Evangelical retelling of the crucifixion that Pilate was little more than a Roman bureaucrat who was simply carrying out the demand of the Jewish authorities to have Christ crucified for daring to call himself the “King of the Jews”?

Listening to MSNBC this evening, it is my understanding that that the District of DC just got a Senate approved US Attorney last Friday. Before that there was only an Acting US Attorney. That may have been one piece that Garland was waiting for.

Also, I understand that Bannon was indicted on two charges, one for failure to provide requested documents and one for failure to appear, each with a maximum sentence of one year.

Joyce Vance noted that this indictment was done without the public hearing about. A return to pre-tfg times.

My sympathies to our esteemed host who lost a valued guitar to airline incompetence. It does sadly seem to be a theme with airlines.

Tom Paxton - Thank You, Republic Airlines (1985)

United Breaks Guitars

en.wikipedia.org

“United Breaks Guitars” is a trio of protest songs by Canadian musician Dave Carroll and his band, Sons of Maxwell. It chronicles a real-life experience of how his guitar was broken during a trip on United Airlines in 2008, and the reaction from the airline. The song became an immediate YouTube and iTunes hit upon its release in July 2009 and a public-relations embarrassment for the airline.
…snip…
Since the incident, Carroll has been in great demand as a speaker on customer service. Coincidentally, on one of his trips as a speaker, United Airlines lost his luggage.

There’s every reason to subpoena him, but I think we have to be realistic about the chances that we’re going to get anything useful from the walking turd. Odds right now are that he’s either going to drag things out by taking his chances with a judge or he’s going to stonewall the committee in order to respect the letter if not the spirit of the subpoena. After all, what does he really gain by cooperating with the committee besides getting out from under the subpoena?

Not to defend Glenn Fucking Douchewald for anything, but… all the screaming about “across state lines” in regards to the Rittenhouse case, which is what he was bitching about, is completely irrelevant and makes “our side” look dumb and desperate. He didn’t take the rifle across state lines into Wisconsin.

Also, crossing state lines and then committing a crime while you are there does not make it a federal case. If I go to Vegas from CA and then get accused of knocking over a liquor store while I’m there. The FBI isn’t going to get involved.

The case was a loss from the start and everyone seriously needs to adjust their expectations and not completely lose their shit when he walks with nothing but a misdemeanor weapons charge (maybe).

The judge is an asshole and biased and is definitely trying to put on a show for TV. But even if he wasn’t, the prosecutor is the dumbest fucking lawyer I’ve ever seen in such a high profile case and has been fucking up royally over and over. He’s definitely not equipped for dealing with this particular case, in this particular environment, in front of this particular judge, to prove malice aforethought (which is the only way this would go the way we hoped).

In even the best case scenario at this point, he’s likely going to be walking down the courthouse steps on the last day of this trial. My money is still on his getting pinched for the misdemeanor charges, for which he’ll remain free until sentencing where the same judge will give him a wrist-slap fine (if that). The major charges either end with acquittal or the state choosing not to refile after a mistrial is declared over a hung jury.

A man who called 911 leading to a teenage girl being rescued after she was reported missing in Kentucky has said he didn’t recognize a viral hand signal used to indicate help is needed, NBC News reports.

Contrary to prior statements from the Sheriff’s Office dealing with the case, David Isaacs said on Tuesday that he “didn’t recognize” the viral hand gesture, and that he called the police after noticing the girl was mouthing “help me” and appeared to be in distress, according to NBC News.

Missing teen wasn’t rescued thanks to TikTok-famous hand signal contrary to prior Sheriff’s Office comments, the 911 caller has reportedly revealed (Insider)

In the highly unlikely event there is a hung jury, my belief is the state will refile with a different prosecutor and a different judge. My guess is that it will be an outright acquittal or the judge dismissing charges with prejudice.

Very good article on Russian COVID propaganda. The Russian state media (that is, the Russian government) is trying to do two things: get Russians to vaccinate, and the West to stop. So, they flood their domestic Russian language outlets with anti-anti-vax stories, but at the same time flood their German and English language outlets with anti-vax conspiracy propaganda.

It. Doesn’t. Work. Russians translate the German and English stuff back into Russian and circulate it around on Telegram, and believe that because that’s the Stuff They Don’t Want You To See. The Russian elite is full of fucking morons.

Most times when the state chooses to refile, it’s because there was behavior either before or during the trial so egregious that they feel that they were not given a fair chance at presenting their case. In this instance, the sentiment largely seems to be that they so badly botched their case that they’re hoping for a mistrial just so they can take another stab at it.

Let’s be honest, Christmas as celebrated in most of the world stopped being a religious observance of any kind long ago. It’s a bit like the idea of Thanksgiving being a holiday based around observing the significance of the early European settlers giving thanks that the Natives hadn’t just sat back and watched the poor bastards starve to death.

Pretty much. And it’s hard to discuss without running into the anti-Semitism just built into the story. I mean the whole disgustingly evil trope of “greedy Jews” comes from the scene where Jesus overturned the tables of the moneychangers in the Temple.

I am no historian, but I think Jesus was crucified by the Romans as a threat to the peace and stability of Jerusalem due to the disruption in the Temple. Everything else was added on top of that, some of it true, some of it embellished, some of it made up out of whole cloth. Again, Just My Opinion.

I believe people are obligated to respond fully and truthfully in these settings, and if he simply says “I don’t know,” “I don’t remember,” a judge may decide to give him the maximum sentence available.

Famed indigenous human rights lawyer Steven Donziger had already been under house arrest for over 800 days when he reported to prison on October 27 to begin a six-month sentence. His crime: winning the largest single pollution judgment in history, $9.5 billion, for the Cofan people of the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.

Was the human rights hero jailed in Brazil or China? No, he was sentenced to prison in the USA. …
And making the story even more significant: This is the first case in US history of a criminal prosecution by a corporation.

the evil jews part comes from John. John was written at a time when there was enormous conflict between Jews and Christians, as the synagogues were losing members to the Christians and weren’t thrilled about that, which ramped up the emotional level. Jesus says all kinds of stuff in John that he doesn’t say elsewhere and that doesn’t really sound like him. I’ve always been suspicious of that.

We don’t yet know if the findings, published in the journal Science, will translate over to humans. But for the nearly 1.5 million people in the U.S. living with paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries, the study provides a glimmer of hope, especially for a condition that less than 3 percent of people fully recover from.

Or maybe Russians are right to be skeptical of the Russian vaccines available to them. The Sputnik vaccine was launched before any of the western vaccines, but it hasn’t yet made the list of those approved by WHO. Meanwhile China has 2 vaccines and India has one among the 8 that are approved. Cuba has recently submitted its vaccines to WHO for approval and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are approved before Russia.

The problem may not be with the design but tied to the manufacturing process but if I were a Russian this delay would concern me.

I tend to agree with you: the Sputnik V vaccine is solid, but there have been serious manufacturing defects, and the developers have been slow and uncooperative in providing the data that the EU, US, and other nations need to get from every vaccine manufacturer to approve it.

I think the biggest issue was that this was sold as one of the big National Projects, which Russians (rightly) consider politically-motivated bullshit to line oligarchs’ pockets, and everybody saw how this was rushed over the finish line before the testing was done.

I always found the Jesus of Matthew (a quite Jewish one) with the classic synagogue sermon of James to be the best of the lessons in there. Still ham fisted at times but it works better than the poetic but often hateful John.

The biggest problem is people mistaking Paul for Jesus as well as not understanding his belief that the world was ending _NOW_ for some of the teachings that don’t do well in a world that continues on down the road.

BTW, I really like my Tesla. I think I need to start test driving other electric vehicles though as we’ve got less than a year left on the lease. Have a Ford F150 Lightning on order as well…but that may not come until late next year.

OK Blake wants everyone to have an AR-15.

What’s next, Blake? Everyone gonna have a rocket launcher?

Where does your tiny penis compensation stop, Blake?

Does everyone have to have a nuclear missile in their back yard?

Remember, only the right white people get these things.

Per worldometer, Czechia has had a huge upsurge in Covid cases, not quite but almost as many as during the height of the disease there. The number of deaths remain low — still down by 70+% from the deadliest days. Haven’t seen Dr. Lizardo recently — hope he is doing well.

I took a few minutes for a long reply, wound up posting it as a Page.

This lying tool isn’t worried about bad guys; that is, people of color and liberals; buying guns. His followers assume that the former are too dumb to use them properly and the latter too snowflakish and noise-averse to even try. The gun cult is the Achilles’ Heel of the right..

The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting.

No, you gun-addled fuckwit, it’s about a Well Regulated Militia

Nothing about you seems well or regular at all, just militia, every man his own personal militia
