Bayefsky: Obama Should Denounce Durban II

World • Views: 2,094

The United Nations has released a new draft declaration for the Durban II “anti-racism” conference, removing some of its anti-Israel language, but Anne Bayefsky says it’s a sham.

Durban II represents a global showdown on the ideological battlefield between Democrats and anti-Democrats, between tolerance and intolerance. For years, the worst abusers of human rights have commandeered U.N. vehicles to trample rights and freedoms. Given the close relationship between spewing hatred and reaping violence—which the first Durban Declaration adopted on Sept. 8, 2001, made abundantly clear—the stakes are high.

Two weeks ago, the Obama administration set out four conditions for U.S. participation in Durban II. The new version of the Durban II declaration must be: “shorter,” “not reaffirm in toto the flawed 2001 Durban Declaration,” “not single out any one country or conflict” and “not embrace the troubling concept of ”defamation of religion.“ On some of these counts, the document makes substantial changes. It is somewhat shorter, removes grotesque allegations like calling Israel an apartheid state and deletes the words ”defamation of religions.“

But most important, it refuses to disavow the 2001 Declaration. On the contrary, it ”Reaffirms the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) as it was adopted at the World Conference against Racism … in 2001.“ That declaration says Palestinians are victims of Israeli racism—with Israel the only U.N. state found guilty of racism. And though today’s draft divides provisions into the negotiable and non-negotiable, it announces that reaffirming Durban I is text which does not ”remain to be negotiated.“

This ”new and improved” document, therefore, breaches President Obama’s key conditions.

Then Durban II is also a scam, and should be ignored. Why is it that the Arabs can be victims of Israeli racism, and never the other way around, as it is in reality?
Geeze, this is bizarro world.

The US should denounce the UN and throw them out.
But my guess is that 0bama will still send delegates to Durban II where they'll agree with the Jew-haters and make jokes about how bad Jews are, while trying to come up with a plan to ban matzah so Jews won't kill babies to make it.

(And we know, matzah is flour and water; eating blood is strictly forbidden for Jews. Just in case the wrong people are reading this)

Love this part:

The new draft is a textbook example of diplomatic double-talk. Diplomats often couch objectionable outcomes in superficially unobjectionable language, using a tool that lawyers call "incorporation by reference." Don't repeat the offensive words in the new document; just include them by referring to another document where they can be found--and which most people won't bother to read.

but but Hussein the Global Citizen of da World..will surely have his teleprompter ready to respond to these allegatons eh?

Obviously, the idea of using blood in matzah is ridiculous -- matzah are made from only white flour and water, so the presence of blood would discolor them and be immediately apparent.

In reality, the Jewish custom is to use the blood of gentile children in making the jam fillings of Hamantaschen pastries for Purim -- where the natural color of the fruit preserves helps to camouflage the blood.

It's a derivatives problem. Some man somehow had something to do with producing the female Proximate Engine of Disaster, as we all know men are always guilty and females as members of a protected minority (that is majority in their case but never mind) class are presumptively innocent. So when a female PEG straps on an explosives belt and kills a dozen people it is a man-caused disaster.

Driving the Durban committee dealing with "complementary standards" is the game plan of Islamic U.N. member states. Insufficient attention to the defamation of religions--Islam in particular.

Gaps again. These pesky gaps are everywhere it seems.

Remember when the UN equated Zionism with racism?
They've only gotten worse.
(And back then, SNL was funny, and not as ideological as they are now; they had a joke that "Sammy Davis Jr said 'What a breakthrough! At last, I can hate myself.'"
Now, they'd probably make a snarky remark agreeing with the resolution.)

I believe that the term female PEG may already be accounted for.

Because this is a condition which obviously not many states are willing to enforce, especially not those who have either a pretty large muslim population within their borders, or depend on ME oil, or love to stir up the situation there, like Putin.
The one country who should be able to enforce this - is on the side of those who cry that Israel occupies their territory.

I agree with you that it is a scam. But if they're going to start attaching conditions, why not start with an elementary one? The scam will be exposed then. The enemies of Israel will hem and haw and not want to recognize it.

Personally, I think the US should completely de-fund the UN and tell them all to go to hell in a hotrod.

A lot of the recipes I've seen for it basically instruct you to start with a packaged cake mix and then add a couple bottles' worth of red food coloring -- so that the batter looks more or less like dark red nail polish.)

Meanwhile, with "friends" like the American Jewish Committee...

For more than a year, the AJC has conducted an extensive lobbying campaign of the American government and of foreign governments to stay in Durban II.

On December 11, 2008 [AJC Executive Director] Harris told The Jerusalem Post: "We can't afford to declare Durban II lost without more focus on diplomacy." On January 12, 2009 the AJC's human rights arm, the Blaustein Institute, wrote to Secretary Clinton and UN Ambassador Susan Rice: "The Durban Review Conference provides an opportunity to review states' progress in the implementation of their commitments to combat racism made in 2001... While some organizations are calling for a US boycott, we believe that is the wrong decision at this time."

[ ... ]

Worse still, as a quid pro quo for its tactical retreat from Durban II, the US is on the verge of announcing that it will run for a seat (election is a foregone conclusion) on the UN Human Rights Council - a move strongly advocated by none other than the AJC's human rights institute. In the words of an AJC press release January 29, 2007: "The human rights arm of the American Jewish Committee is urging the United States to seek membership on the UN Human Rights Council." The Council has adopted more resolutions and decisions condemning Israel than all other 191 UN member states combined. By joining the UN Human Rights Council, the Obama administration will be legitimizing a body dedicated to the delegitimization of Israel.

What on earth could they be thinking?

That declaration says Palestinians are victims of Israeli racism—with Israel the only U.N. state found guilty of racism.

That is the most absurd thing I had ever heard.

Racism is ugly, and I'm sure there is some racism in Israel by some Jews against Arabs (and by most Arabs against Jews). But racism is ubiquitous around the globe, and try as we might to extirpate it from the human condition, I (and a lot of evolutionary biologists) am convinced that xenophobia is practically hardwired into the human brain, much in the same way that distrust of other species is hardwired into many animal brains. There is racism is every country in the world, and Israel is no worse than (and probably much better than) most. Try being a Korean in Japan; a Chinese person in Indonesia; a black person in the Ukraine; a white person in Zimbabwe, a Guatemalan in Mexico; or a Tibetan in China. Etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Racism is bad, but it's pretty much omnipresent and inescapable, just like envy, greed, rape and murder, in every society on the planet. To single out Israel is sheer anti-Semitism, plain and simple.
