Murderous Anti-Evolution Nigerian Islamists

A militant Islamic group called the “Nigerian Taliban” has killed dozens of people with coordinated attacks in the northern part of Nigeria, with the goal of overthrowing the government, imposing strict sharia law, and abolishing “Western-style education.”

Especially that whole “rain” concept. They don’t accept that rain is evaporated water.

In an interview with the BBC, the group’s leader, Mohammed Yusuf, said such education “spoils the belief in one God”.

“There are prominent Islamic preachers who have seen and understood that the present Western-style education is mixed with issues that run contrary to our beliefs in Islam,” he said.

“Like rain. We believe it is a creation of God rather than an evaporation caused by the sun that condenses and becomes rain.’

Oooohkay.

But the creationists at the Discovery Institute do have some common ground with the Nigerian Taliban:

“Like saying the world is a sphere. If it runs contrary to the teachings of Allah, we reject it. We also reject the theory of Darwinism.”

He was a very pleasant man, and completely sincere. I gave him a cup of coffee and listened politely for a minute then told him I would have to take it up with our legal staff. Actually, we did not have a legal staff. In fact, we were blessed not to have a single lawyer residing in the whole community. We took what legal business we had to an attorney in the local metropolis, which had 5000 people and several lawyers.

In Germany you can be ticketed for not getting the hell out of the left lane when someone wants to pass. Here, some people make a sport out of it. "I'm going just as fast as I want to go, and if you flash your lights at me I'll slow down and force you to pass me on the right. This is my lane."

Recently some merd in a minivan did that to me while a truck blocked my right side. So I'm trundling along behind this tool in front and an eighteen-wheeler at my side, with other fast traffic coming up behind. He's boxing me in and enjoying it, slowing down to match the truck's speed, whose driver is trying to get him to pass.

Nice thing about a big engine: you can drop back, cut over two lanes and pass that ole truck before the minivan dude can blink.

So I do that and scoot back into the left lane. The minibrain immediately speeds up, passes the truck, and moves into the middle lane. He showed me, all right!

On a slightly more hopeful note, a Sudanese court was forced to move forward with a case charging a woman with the crime of wearing trousers. The defendant insisted that the case move forward, insisting on a trial rather than accepting a grant of immunity offered because she is a UN member.

The article doesn't cover it, but the defendant was interviewed on BBC radio this morning, and was defiant. She sent out over 500 printed invitations to journalists all over the world to come attend her trial, and she is demanding to know, given that the charges are supposedly based in sharia law, "Where does Prophet Mohammed say this is wrong? What in the Koran does it say this is wrong? What is the basis for this crime in Islam?" She is demanding that the imams put their reasoning where their mouths - and whips - are, and to do it in a public forum. If convicted, she wants her lashing to be done in public and broadcast, and claims she can cite passages in the Koran that require such punishments to be done in public, not behind locked gates.

An interesting challenge from within the system itself. I wish her luck. Ultimately, sharia lunacy can only be defeated from within.

The trial was deferred until next week. The court is hoping to deflect all the public attention by stalling.

In Germany you can be ticketed for not getting the hell out of the left lane when someone wants to pass. Here, some people make a sport out of it. "I'm going just as fast as I want to go, and if you flash your lights at me I'll slow down and force you to pass me on the right. This is my lane."

Recently some merd in a minivan did that to me while a truck blocked my right side. So I'm trundling along behind this tool in front and an eighteen-wheeler at my side, with other fast traffic coming up behind. He's boxing me in and enjoying it, slowing down to match the truck's speed, whose driver is trying to get him to pass.

Nice thing about a big engine: you can drop back, cut over two lanes and pass that ole truck before the minivan dude can blink.

So I do that and scoot back into the left lane. The minibrain immediately speeds up, passes the truck, and moves into the middle lane. He showed me, all right!

To quote Jayne from Firefly, "Wouldn't it be nice if we had some hand grenades right about now?"

What amazes me is that mind conditioned Muslims reject as heresy

Do I understand this correctly? Because the Taliban - and I'm sure many mainstream Muslims - reject Darwin's theory of evolution - the people who reject it in favor of intelligent design or creationism are in some manner equivalent to the Taliban?

Are 'mainstream' or 'moderate' Muslims, (however you want to charcterize the non-murderous Muslims) who may reject Darwinian evolution to be evaluated on the merits provided by the Taliban's views?

So, non-Muslims who believe in intelligent design or creationism are sullied by the fact that the Taliban also reject Darwinian evolution?

There is a very good argument to be made about the place of public education in a secular society. There are tons of arguments to be made about how in individual communities' school boards are chosen.

Before I get back to the mud wrassling, I would like to note that one of the books I was reading last nite is Bruce Bawer’s “Surrender”. It doesn’t contain much that is new for those of us who have been following this stuff for the past 9 years or so, but I highly recommend it as a ‘one stop’ reference for the history of the media and political spinelessness in the face of jihad. And Charles gets well-deserved kudos for being a mensch.

Ok, where were we?

First, Charles, you cited something called The Wedge Document, which I was unaware of. I had to look it up and read it. From that doc:

The proposition that human beings are created in the image of God is one of the bedrock principles on which Western civilization was built. Its influence can be detected in most, if not all, of the West's greatest achievements, including representative democracy, human rights, free enterprise, and progress in the arts and sciences.
