Next time the republicans will do two things.
1) Nominate a more conservative candidate.

Outcome will be the same.

That will be geared more towards preventing the Tea Party from putting guys like Joe Walsh back on the ballots.

He should win Ohio comfortably, by a large enough margin that a recount would clearly be futile. That would make challenging the results in any other state pointless.

"Christians who are thinking about voting for Obama should remember what he said about people of faith: “They … cling to guns or religion.” And remember when Obama forced Christian organizations to provide insurance coverage that was contrary to their religious beliefs? That’s the real Barack Obama. That’s the real threat to our religious freedom. Mitt Romney understands the importance of faith and family. That’s why so many leaders of the Christian community are supporting Romney.
They know we can’t underestimate the threat Barack Obama poses to our faith, our values, our freedom."

The GOP will press it even without a serious chance of prevailing in an attempt to weaken Obama's legitimacy. They are that sort of bastards these days.
Al Gore refused to do wo, even with a reasonable chance of prevailing because he did not want to see America's political legitimacy threatened. We already saw what the GOP thinks of that notion over the last budget debacle...

I'm glad you asked, because there's another National Review article dealing with that!
Global Warming Did Not Cause Sandy
In the wake of the disaster caused by Tropical Storm Sandy, various allies of the Obama campaign have rushed to claim that the event was caused by anthropogenic global warming, thereby justifying the president’s program of crushing the economy with regressive carbon taxes, a supposedly necessary measure to prevent future bad weather. In fact, there is no scientific basis, either empirical or theoretical, to justify such claims.
Romney did nothing, resolutely! The RIGHT choice!

I have some issues with that, as I articulated a day ago:
1) That assumes that the rest of the country is as advanced as Washington and Oregon. It isn't. I shudder to think how a mail voting system would proceed in a state with a history of vote corruption.
2) I garan-fuckin-tee you some religious nuts are going try to dictate their family votes one way or another. This is the reason we have the secret ballot.
3) We don't even know the long term prospects of the USPS yet. We may end up with a public voting system processed through a panoply of private carriers. Oh hell no.

If you registered you get a FEDEX box sent to your home with any local, State and Fed ballots inclosed.

Communists and Dictators and Muslims and Murderers: Just Another Sunday Conversation at Church in Florida ow.ly/f0ON9

"You know," Barbara told her friends, "if that Obamacare isn't repealed, we're going to lose all our doctors. There just waiting to see if it stays and, if it does, they'll leave. They'll leave the country." Somebody else mentioned the president's plan to arrest doctors who refuse to be part of his health-care plan. "That sounds like a dictatorship," someone said.
"Well, it is a dictatorship," someone else responded, as the elderly ladies across the room pursed their lips and tried not to notice. "He's a Socialist, that's what he is."
"He doesn't even go to church," Barbara said. "My daughter, she talked at a college up north, and she told me that they've all had all this stuff just force-fed to them. She said that they all believe in evolution, that we all descended from monkeys. All the teachers and professors are Communists."

re: #98 ProGunLiberal
My prediction for the election, based off of Nate Silver.
After this election, with the evil seen from the Republicans, the Democrats need to use the Demographics to their advantage to deprive Republicans all levers of power at the Federal Level (Presidency, Senate, and House) and subsequently use that to impeach both Scalia and Thomas for their corruption. Then use that power to push for heavy reforms economically. If we need to, see if any Hardline Democratic states have internal disputes with fissioning the state into 2 Democratic states, giving us 2 more senators for each instance of this.
The Demographic Shift should be able to have the US look like this by 2028. I am counting on Atlanta being able to, with 16 years, flip Georgia, and for increased immigration from the Arab and South Asian Countries to continue, going to areas with already high concentrations, shifting those states too. That could shift Tennessee (Nashville has highest concentration of Kurds in the US) and Indiana (Heavy Arab Population in Great Lakes region in general. Hispanics count for the rest.
"If we need to, see if any Hardline Democratic states have internal disputes with fissioning the state into 2 Democratic states, giving us 2 more senators for each instance of this."
The F**k is this? Seriously... I can't come up with any more coherent reply than that....

I mean, for example, that Upstate and Downstate New York could split. With Buffalo and a few of the other centers, Upstate would remain safe. However, that would also represent a gain of 2 Democratic Senators.
Do this cases where there are irreconcilable differences between Democratic states where both would remain Democratic.
I know what you're saying.... but it is insane.
It would lead to Republican's doing the same thing whenever they could also... it would lead to America nation of countless "states" made up of five people, either four democrats and one Republican /undecided (so that two of the democrats can be senators) or vice versa...
Do you not really how crazy it would be to start dividing up states to try and get more senators on one side or the other?

re: #192 jamesfirecat
This:
On August 31, Al Jazeera reported that a document had been found in the headquarters of the Libyan intelligence agency which according to the author appears to be a summary of a conversation between Kucinich and an intermediary for Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in which the congressman asked for information about the anti-Gaddafi National Transitional Council (NTC), possible links of it to al-Qaeda and corruption evidences, to lobby US lawmakers to put an end to NATO airstrikes and suspend their support for the NTC.[137] It also listed information necessary to defend Saif al-Islam against International Criminal Court war crimes charges.
He also has a history of flip-flopping (on abortion), and being nutty, as detailed here
I wish he could be prosecuted for the first one though.

Rand Paul isn't a very reliable source of information either. Sometimes this stuff runs in the family. I suppose it's possible that Mitt is holding a crowd of people captive but Kuchinich's daughter might not be a reliable source for that information.

Awesome, congrats on the job. I've been doing well, been under a bit of job-related stress for about a month that came to a very nasty head on Friday, but an encouraging email from my boss wiped most of the stress away. That's strange. I've given the occasional accidental downding in the past, and when I clicked the green 'plus' it didn't appear to remove the downding, it just showed both and upding and a downding from me. Maybe clicking the second time is the charm.
