Oh hey, Justin “Asshole” Bieber
Late Wednesday evening, TMZ reported that Bieber’s Ferrari had once again been pulled over for speeding.
Although earlier reports suggested otherwise, it soon came out that Bieber wasn’t behind the wheel.
Instead, his buddy Lil Twist was, which means it might be time to take the keys away from him because this is the same Lil Twist who crashed Bieber’s Ferrari five months ago in an accident that left a photographer dead…
WTF. Thanks Canada.

Fox News Host Eric Bolling: Single Female Breadwinners ‘Pushing Towards More Abortions’
Goo help us but barring the slant the underlying elements are valid.
Single female breadwinners can’t afford to have four months of no income (late pregnancy) followed by trying to hold two full-time jobs (raising child, earning income). Inevitably (multiple studies) show that the end result is slower rates of promotions and higher rates of unemployment even compared to other women (who don’t have children).
Primarily they use contraceptives, but the right to have an abortion is where the major battle is being fought. (and anyone in the battle paying attention knows the ones trying to remove the right to abortion also want the contraceptives controlled or removed, too.)
I have seen the argument - and find it persuasive - that the pill may be one of the Great Inventions, using as definition that it causes major disruptive change to society. The fact that women have close to the same freedom as men in regard to sex and consequence is revolutionary. That the battle is still being fought over access and application half a century later shouldn’t be a surprise.

Everyone is allowed to pray in school.
Nobody can make you pray in school. Nobody can force you to listen to their prayers. Schools can officially allow religious group activities with the two restrictions that ONLY those who want to participate do so and that if any religious group is allowed, all religious groups are allowed (caveats for law, safety, and disruption. In other words no skyclad wicca, no dark loa, no thuggee, etc.)
Freedom of and from religion. It’s that simple.

Some of it is starting to improve. I’ve seen more normal ammunition at local stores again and can find things like cans of surplus soviet ammo for pre-frenzy prices ($89/440) again. What’s going to be enjoyable is about 6 months from now when the glut hits because all the manufacturers ramping up production to meet a demand spike that won’t last… ;)

What I see here in LA is that the less popular calibers are plentiful. .223 is a mess, little choice and too much money. Some have ruined their new AR chambered for .223 by loading 5.62mm mil spec rounds and their cheaply built gun breaks forever.
Getting inventory is a challenge for the store.

For a while buying ammo will be cheaper than reloading. I figure you’ll also see a lot of “buy this pistol and we’ll throw in a box of ammo” deals. I’m betting at least one ammo company comes close to going out of business, bringing yet another source of glut for a while as its overflowing warehouse get drained in the assets sales.

The rise in single mothers is troubling, Thompson says, but Erickson’s point is that married mothers out-earning their husbands is tragic. It isn’t. “It’s inevitable. And it’s good.” It is natural for women to be allowed to compete with men in the marketplace and split up domestic duties with them at home. And in fact, adds Thompson, “far from ‘tearing us apart,’ it’s widely acknowledged
that dual-earner households allow families to live more comfortably.”
No, women being allowed to compete in the marketplace isn’t Freedom, which isn’t Free, it’s Liberal Totalitarianism. I’m pretty sure it’s MarxistSoshulism, too. Also, too.

re: #66 A Mom Anon
And so May continues to suck….
Husband supposed to start new job Monday. Yesterday we find out he “failed” a backround check. The sucky background check company has got him confused with a guy with the same last name, similar first name, same birth YEAR(not date, as far as we can tell), different middle name 150 miles away. The criminal is also 3 inches shorter, has different tattoos and has never lived in this area, nor has my husband ever lived where the criminal is. His employment is now delayed for up to 30 days pending the outcome of an appeals process with THE COMPANY WHO MESSED UP THE BACKGROUND CHECK.
It literally took me 30 seconds to find the criminal guy on the internet, along with his mug shot and it’s obvious it’s not my husband. WTF?
I really can’t take much more of this crap. So now we’ll be without health insurance for longer, income for longer, and I’m watching our savings dwindle away because someone else was too freaking lazy to do a couple extra minutes of work to make sure they didn’t fuck up someone’s life with a bad background check.
Fuck.
That sucks!

Well, it takes American Express 10 days to load money that they withdraw from my bank account, into my prepaid card. I mean, it’s like they hand-carry that cash across the country.

That’s it too. I’m assuming he’s saying “yes there is climate change but it’s not caused by CO2 but rather CFCs.” I think he’s been saying this since 2008.
They just don’t get how science works. Sure, there’s some politicing around who gets what published where, but in general, if you have something really revolutionary, it’s the easiest thing to get published. It’s really hard to get the “Just Confirming CO2 is Fucking Up Our Shit” study published, because it says nothing new. That this guy could only get this very different theory published in International Journal of Modern Physics B means there’s something basically flawed or limited about it.
Not to be that guy, but my wife has published material in more important journals than that while dong post-bac stuff.

I have no idea if we can sue or not. All I can figure is that this company just plugged his name into a database and nothing else and they picked this guy at random from the list. My husband’s name is a common one, both first and last, but the middle names are WAY different which should have been a clue. Seriously, I figured it out in less than a minute, you mean a multi-million dollar company with access to more info than I could ever access couldn’t do that too?
My husband is going up to the job site today with the proof he’s not the criminal. This went through corporate, which is in Indiana, so the people there have never seen him, but the people here have, obviously, so maybe that will help the process? I don’t know. When the husband called the background check company in Texas(oh surprise) about an appeal, they got all shitty with him.

I went out to a bar in San Francisco, had a nice time, went home.
The next day I went to the bank to make a deposit and then withdraw some.
There was a problem, in that I was overdrawn by $34,000.
The problem was that the bartender had run up 34, hit the zero, then thought he’d hit backspace, and then the double zero. But he just hit zero and double zero.
So I learned that I can charge 34,000 to my card, which surprised me.
Luckily the bar reversed the charge and it only took a day to sort out.

Looks like it was published yesterday. To get published in a journal it generally needs to go through peer review. Quality of journals vary wildly though, so does the quality of peer review. Also peer review isn’t an endorsement, generally just means there are no obviously methodological problems.

The study claims that CFCs are responsible for global warming rather than C02, so I don’t get why the deniers are crowing about this anyway.

Here is the abstract for the paper referenced by Erickson via Daily Caller:
COSMIC-RAY-DRIVEN REACTION AND GREENHOUSE EFFECT OF HALOGENATED MOLECULES: CULPRITS FOR ATMOSPHERIC OZONE DEPLETION AND GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE
Q.-B. LU
Department of Physics and Astronomy and Departments of Biology and Chemistry, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, CanadaReceived: 15 October 2012
Revised: 27 February 2013
Accepted: 12 March 2013
Published: 30 May 2013This study is focused on the effects of cosmic rays (solar activity) and halogen-containing molecules (mainly chlorofluorocarbons — CFCs) on atmospheric ozone depletion and global climate change. Brief reviews are first given on the cosmic-ray-driven electron-induced-reaction (CRE) theory for O3 depletion and the warming theory of halogenated molecules for climate change. Then natural and anthropogenic contributions to these phenomena are examined in detail and separated well through in-depth statistical analyses of comprehensive measured datasets of quantities, including cosmic rays (CRs), total solar irradiance, sunspot number, halogenated gases (CFCs, CCl4 and HCFCs), CO2, total O3, lower stratospheric temperatures and global surface temperatures. For O3 depletion, it is shown that an analytical equation derived from the CRE theory reproduces well 11-year cyclic variations of both polar O3 loss and stratospheric cooling, and new statistical analyses of the CRE equation with observed data of total O3 and stratospheric temperature give high linear correlation coefficients ≥ 0.92. After the removal of the CR effect, a pronounced recovery by 20~25% of the Antarctic O3 hole is found, while no recovery of O3 loss in mid-latitudes has been observed. These results show both the correctness and dominance of the CRE mechanism and the success of the Montreal Protocol. For global climate change, in-depth analyses of the observed data clearly show that the solar effect and human-made halogenated gases played the dominant role in Earth’s climate change prior to and after 1970, respectively. Remarkably, a statistical analysis gives a nearly zero correlation coefficient (R = -0.05) between corrected global surface temperature data by removing the solar effect and CO2 concentration during 1850-1970. In striking contrast, a nearly perfect linear correlation with coefficients as high as 0.96-0.97 is found between corrected or uncorrected global surface temperature and total amount of stratospheric halogenated gases during 1970-2012. Furthermore, a new theoretical calculation on the greenhouse effect of halogenated gases shows that they (mainly CFCs) could alone result in the global surface temperature rise of ~0.6°C in 1970-2002. These results provide solid evidence that recent global warming was indeed caused by the greenhouse effect of anthropogenic halogenated gases. Thus, a slow reversal of global temperature to the 1950 value is predicted for coming 5~7 decades. It is also expected that the global sea level will continue to rise in coming 1~2 decades until the effect of the global temperature recovery dominates over that of the polar O3 hole recovery; after that, both will drop concurrently. All the observed, analytical and theoretical results presented lead to a convincing conclusion that both the CRE mechanism and the CFC-warming mechanism not only provide new fundamental understandings of the O3 hole and global climate change but have superior predictive capabilities, compared with the conventional models.
Keywords: Cosmic rays; chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs); ozone depletion; ozone hole; global warming; global cooling
PACS: 34.35.+a, 34.70.+e, 34.80.Ht, 73.20.At, 82.40.QtTake note of the following “…perfect linear correlation with coefficients as high as 0.96-0.97 is found between corrected or uncorrected global surface temperature and total amount of stratospheric halogenated gases…”
If this guy is getting correlations as high as .96, then he has a problem with auto-correlation.

It gets exponentially harder the more objects are in the rotational system, since they all have gravity and attract each other. So it becomes much more likely that it is an unstable system.

You forgot the other reason women might be sole breadwinners - divorce. They obviously didn’t satisfy their husband’s needs, probably because they didn’t accept the wisdom of Phyllis Schlafly that marriage gives blanket consent for sex.

Speaking of moons and gravity…
NASA’s Grail Mission Solves Mystery of Moon’s Surface Gravity
PASADENA, Calif. — NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission has uncovered the origin of massive invisible regions that make the moon’s gravity uneven, a phenomenon that affects the operations of lunar-orbiting spacecraft.
Because of GRAIL’s findings, spacecraft on missions to other celestial bodies can navigate with greater precision in the future.
GRAIL’s twin spacecraft studied the internal structure and composition of the moon in unprecedented detail for nine months. They pinpointed the locations of large, dense regions called mass concentrations, or mascons, which are characterized by strong gravitational pull. Mascons lurk beneath the lunar surface and cannot be seen by normal optical cameras.
GRAIL scientists found the mascons by combining the gravity data from GRAIL with sophisticated computer models of large asteroid impacts and known detail about the geologic evolution of the impact craters. The findings are published in the May 30 edition of the journal Science.
“GRAIL data confirm that lunar mascons were generated when large asteroids or comets impacted the ancient moon, when its interior was much hotter than it is now,” said Jay Melosh, a GRAIL co-investigator at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and lead author of the paper. “We believe the data from GRAIL show how the moon’s light crust and dense mantle combined with the shock of a large impact to create the distinctive pattern of density anomalies that we recognize as mascons.”

Why GOP Scandal Mongers Can’t Have Nice Things
As Bill Clinton and John Edwards and various others have made clear, Democrats do have scandals. Plenty of them actually. But here we have another good example of why Republicans so often have bad luck these days with bogus scandals they’re so hyped up about or ones that actually are legitimate scandals but which get overrun by so much hysterical nonsense that the actual scandal gets forgotten amidst a lava-like deluge of The Crazy. In a few words, most of the right-wing press is just astonishingly bad.

Amelia Earhart’s Plane Wreckage May Be Visible in Newly-Released Images
Grainy sonar images depicting a narrow, 22-ft. long object found some 600 feet below sea level in the Pacific Ocean may show the remains of the Lockheed Electra plane flown by Amelia Earhart. The world-famous aviator and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared on July 2, 1937, somewhere near Nikumaroro Island in the western Pacific Ocean. Five years after successfully crossing the Atlantic on a solo flight at age 34, the airwoman was attempting to circumnavigate the globe along the equator.

NASA funds 3D pizza-making food printer
The ever-elusive food synthesiser popularized by Star Trek might soon become a reality, thanks to 3D printing.
Systems and Materials Research Corporation recently landed a $125,000 grant for six months from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, otherwise known as NASA, to develop a 3D-printing prototype for pizza, according to a report by Quartz.
Anjan Contractor founded the company in 1998 and created a food printer that uses powder and oil-filled cartridges with a shelf life of up to 30 years to make nutritional meals containing sugars, complex carbohydrates, protein, etc. Contractor said the world’s food systems cannot supply 12 billion sufficiently, but his printer conception, which is currently geared toward making pizza because its distinct layers are easily printable, could eventually “change our perception of what we see as food”.
Contractor’s pizza printer is in the conceptual stage and based on the open-source RepRap 3D printer. He plans to keep the software open source, as he likes to imagine a future where every kitchen would have a 3D food printer, and he will allegedly begin building the first pizza printer prototype in June with just one head to print one substance at a time.

Police say a fight between two teen girls Friday morning spread among adults and other teens in the crowd.
No one was seriously injured.
Police Commander Wayne Drummond says the brawl came near the end of the ceremony at the elementary school on Cleveland’s east side.

Erick Erickson Continues His Impotent, Childish Flailing for Your Entertainment
Erick Erickson, in his continually futile quest to make himself feel like a big, tough manly man by shitting on women, has decided to respond to the howls of laughter at his impotent quaking in fear at the possibility that women’s financial pull is giving them decision-making power in the home. Because everything—literally everything—with him is about pretending his fantasies about being powerful and intimidating are reality, he’s trying to pretend that he teed people off with his comments about women’s natural subservience.
Many feminist and emo lefties have their panties in a wad over my statements in the past 24 hours about families.
It’s funny, because women wear panties and women are inferior beings! If he keeps saying it, it will keep him from glimpsing the reality that is obvious to all of us, which is that he’s just a substandard slice of humanity whose white male privilege has kept him afloat despite his obvious lack of any talents besides being dim-witted and obvious lack of emotions outside of self-pity and resentment of the rest of humanity for not being as pointless as he is.

Q: Does First Lady Michelle Obama have an “unprecedented” number of staffers?
A: A spokeswoman for the first lady says that Michelle Obama currently has a staff of 24. That may indeed be the largest of any first lady, but Hillary Clinton, with 19 staffers, and Laura Bush with at least 18 and perhaps more, weren’t far behind.

Lelyveld said that Michelle Obama’s staff was actually no different than that of her predecessor, Laura Bush. “[W]e have exactly the same staff number as Mrs. Bush and our office organization reflects a similar staffing model, so insinuations otherwise are wrong,” she said. Lelyveld said that the White House’s “personnel records indicate” that there were 24 staffers for Laura Bush at some point. We were able to verify at least 18 staffers for Laura Bush, as of June 30, 2008, via the 2008 White House staff list published in The Washington Post’s White House Watch column. Sixteen people were specifically referred to as a “first lady” staffer, and Amy Zantzinger and Dorothy Thornton served as White House social secretary and deputy social secretary, respectively. It’s possible that someone with the title of “staff assistant” was assigned to the Office of First Lady as well, as is the case with Michelle Obama’s staff.

How a 90-Year-Old Man Made the Most Metal Album Ever
Christopher Lee — the English actor most famous for playing Dracula, Saruman, Count Dooku, and the mad scientist in Gremlins 2 — recently turned 91 years old. While most people commemorating their 10th decade of life would limit the celebration to a 3:00 p.m. dinner reservation at Red Lobster, Lee decided to mark the occasion by releasing a heavy metal album.
This is because Christopher Lee is secretly the metalest dude to have ever walked the planet Earth. He’s more metal than Glenn Danzig slaying a griffin with a broadsword forged from the bones of Dimebag Darrell. Here is why:

I know I’m probably in a minority, but I think graduation ceremonies for Kindergarten and elementary school are ridiculous in the first place. Maybe. I could see that.
I think when I had mine back in the late 70’s it was just a fun thing to do. We didn’t wear full robes or do anything that formal. IIRC, think we just dressed up a little and put the caps on our heads, stood in line until our names were called and got a certificate (i.e., our kindergarten “diploma”) and that was it.
If they’ve gone all formal and structured now, that’s weird. But back then it wasn’t nearly that big of a deal. It was just something to show we were going to the big kids’ school.

The requirement, issued in what is known as a demand letter, compels those sellers to report to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives when anyone buys — within a five-day period — two or more semi-automatic weapons capable of accepting a detachable magazine and with a caliber greater than .22. The ATF says the requirement is needed to help stop the flow of guns to Mexican drug cartels.

Tea party speaker presents proof Grover Norquist is a secret Muslim: ‘He has a beard’
In a video posted by the Far North Dallas Tea Party on Thursday, Texas Eagle Forum President and former Chairman of the Texas Republican Party Cathie Adams presented evidence that Norquist was part of a “stealth jihad” in the United States.
Adams said that Norquist, who is married to a Muslim woman, was “trouble with a capital ‘T’” because “he’s showing signs of converting to Islam himself.”
“As you see, he has a beard,” she pointed out. “He’s married a Muslim woman. But he denies that he has converted himself. He denies that.”
“He and Karl Rove are very good friends. I don’t like Karl Rove, and I certainly don’t like Grover Norquist.”
Adams went on to suggest that CIA Director John Brennan could also be a secret Muslim.
“Where is the outcry?” she asked. “Thank God that Ted Cruz is now in the United States Senate!”

You’d think there would be a checks and balances system in place. Women seem to be the ones doing the paperwork.
The HR admins have no control over salary compensation, and they are not allowed to share that information with other employees.

There’s still a struggle for women’s rights, it’s just that it’s no longer gender-specific.

Kelly debunked Erickson’s Red State op-ed, point by point. “I will start with you Erick. What makes you dominant and me submissive and who makes you dominant in chief?” Comparing Erickson to the people who used pseudo-science to argue against interracial marriage a half-century ago, Kelly asked, “Why should we take your word for it, Erick Erickson’s science?”:
KELLY: In this country in the ’50s and ’60s there were huge numbers of people that believed that the children of interracial marriages were biologically inferior and that is why it was illegal for blacks and whites to marry in some states in the country up until 1967. And they said it was science and fact if you were the child of a black father and white mother or vice versa you were inferior and not set up for success. Tell that to Barack Obama.

Yep - he was Muslim (ie, he submits to the Will of God). Which is a broad definition, to be honest, as it also includes Abraham, Moses, David, Jonah, John, Solomon, you name it - and though there’s some dispute on it among scholars, Cyrus the Great may be on that list as well.

Budget provision to lift ban on foreign ownership of land criticized
Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposes lifting a longtime prohibition on foreign ownership of large tracts of land in Wisconsin — a change that some legislators believe will allow other countries to gain too much control over some of the world’s best farmland.
The current law, enacted in 1887 and upheld by the state Supreme Court in 1976, bars foreign individuals or corporations from owning more than 640 acres in the state.
Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie said the law in question had to be changed because it conflicts with the General Agreement on Trade in Services. GATS is a treaty among World Trade Organization members that was enacted in 1995 to stabilize international service trading.
Wisconsin has the highest quality ginseng in the world which the Chinese buy with fervor. With this, they can bypass American farms completely and just grow it themselves. Probably with tax free status if history is any guide!!! USA!!!USA!!!USA!!!

Anyone read this book yet? It’s featured in a Pritzker Military Library Author Talk.
A Disease in the Public Mind: A New Understanding of Why We Fought the Civil War
By the time John Brown hung from the gallows for his crimes at Harper’s Ferry, Northern abolitionists had made him a “holy martyr” in their campaign against Southern slave owners. This Northern hatred for Southerners long predated their objections to slavery. They were convinced that New England, whose spokesmen had begun the American Revolution, should have been the leader of the new nation. Instead, they had been displaced by Southern “slavocrats” like Thomas Jefferson. This malevolent envy exacerbated the South’s greatest fear: a race war. Jefferson’s cry, “We are truly to be pitied,” summed up their dread. For decades, extremists in both regions flung insults and threats, creating intractable enmities. By 1861, only a civil war that would kill a million men could save the Union.
