Host of Conference Feat. Cruz, Huckabee & Jindal Says He’d “Spread Cow Manure All Over” His Body

So, this weekend Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee and Bobby Jindal all spoke at the National Religious Liberties Conference in Colorado, hosted by a radical right wing pastor who thinks gays should be executed — after they have a chance to repent, that is.

Pastor Kevin Swanson followed the GOP candidates with a speech in which he said that if his own son ever got married to another man, he’d show up at the wedding in “sackcloth and ashes” and smear cow manure all over his body on the steps of the church.

And Swanson reiterated his belief that God wants gay people to be executed.

Republican presidential candidates are courting people who think like this, folks.

And they (the GOP Candidates) manage to claim that THEY are the ones being unfairly attacked when the views of the people they associate with and are endorsed by are rightly brought to light.

Though I doubt he would actually do it.

“There are families, we’re talking Christian families, pastors’ families, elders’ families from good, godly churches,” Swanson said, “whose sons are rebelling, hanging out with homosexuals and getting married and the parents are invited. What would you do if that was the case? Here is what I would do: sackcloth and ashes at the entrance to the church and I’d sit in cow manure and I’d spread it all over my body. That is what I would do and I’m not kidding, I’m not laughing.”

One, I doubt his kid would invite the son of a bitch.

Two, the cops would likely hit him with a firehouse before dragging him off the the church steps.

Exactly the type of thinking that exists among very conservative South Asians (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.) and Arabs. That’s the excuse the men give for assaulting and raping girls and women in their areas. “She was out walking alone.” “I saw her face.” “She looked at me.” “Respectable girls stay at home, or only go out with a male relative.”

Usually, they leave a small patch to be downloaded once its officially released to finalized the install and run the game, then you’ve got to mess with any install bugs and get it up and running.

If I can at least get thru that so I can play Tuesday, I’ll be happy.

It was kind of a standing joke where I worked (we were setting up servers every week for class) that sooner or latter MS would have a product that needed to have the patches installed first before the product. (Seems like one of the versions of Sharepoint Server came pretty damn close)

re: #16 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

My suspicion is either Swanson’s own personal attraction to boys or men, or a childhood incident with another boy or man. That kind of gut-level revulsion has to come from some serious emotional trauma.

No.

Violent homophobia is a learned, enculturated behavior set that’s basically part of “performing” the role of masculinity. People can be revolted by their abstract notion of what gay sex is without any personal experience or inclination…indeed, in their studied ignorance, their imagining is so distant from the actual thing it might as well be The Bogeyman. It comes down to cultural constructs of how and who to be: we’re used to a society in which most people are free to self-define their self-expression, but religious and social conservatives idealize societies—past, or imagined—in which sex was not private, but structured by family (through marriage arrangement) and community (through explicit and implicit penalties for sex outside of norms).

And quite often homophobic inclinations map to an understanding of sex as an act not between equals, but of domination—you’re a fucker or the fucked—because the genders are deemed unequal, even in the most intimate moment between a man and a woman. To be blunt—the assumption is that being penetrated is a submission of power. Fear of gay sex is fear of male and female sexual norms—who fucks, who is fucked*—being broken, with he subsequent suggestion of larger societal constructs of who to be and how to behave as “man” and “woman.”

When you look at a Kevin Swanson, or his international market equivalent, you’ll find that abhorrence of gay sex goes hand in hand with abhorrence of sex outside of the framework of male-female gender roles where the man wants and pursues sex, and the woman stays “pure” by deflecting men until marriage…at which point, sex is about husband-wife dynamics that the larger community referees**. Same sex relationships are the ultimate breach of the society-enforced structure of sex and hierarchy.

* This is, by the way, how you end up with crazy homophobic societies and individuals that nonetheless indulge in pederasty and punitive rape of men: sex is power, so fucking someone is demonstrating power over them.

**Digression: contempt or mitigation of the idea of consent by outlining gender-appropriate sexual expression dovetails with homophobia as well. Be it conservative Hindus, fundamentalists Muslims, or purity-obsessed wingnuts, the role of woman as sexual goalkeeper is rigged. On the other hand, the role of man as incontinent sex seeker mitigates “wrong” sex, be it with a woman, man, or sheep. Basically, a dude’s shame can be written off, whereas the failure to be a “pure” woman carries deeper social shame.

OK, I’ll defer to your comments, but I still suspect Swanson has some history that has colored his reaction to gays and SSM.

I note that he, like many of his ilk, mentions nothing about lesbians. They only seem to focus on male-male sex, so that’s evidence for your take on the subject.

Disgracing your child on their wedding day is horrifying enough as it is.

re: #28 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

OK, I’ll defer to your comments, but I still suspect Swanson has some history that has colored his reaction to gays and SSM.

Homophobic men who self identify as straight are more likely to get physically aroused than non-homophobic straight men when shown gay sex scenes.

One study asked heterosexal men how comfortable and anxious they are around gay men. Based on these scores, they then divided these men into two groups: men that are homophobic, and men who are not. These men were then shown three, four-minute videos. One video depicted straight sex, one depicted lesbian sex and one depicted gay male sex. While this was happening, a device was attached to each participant’s penis. This device (link is external) has been found to be triggered by sexual arousal, but not other types of arousal (such as nervousness, or fear - arousal often has a very different meaning in psychology than in popular usage).

When viewing lesbian sex and straight sex, both the homophobic and the non-homophobic men showed increased penis circumference. For gay male sex, however, only the homophobic men showed heightened penis arousal.

That doesn’t make denial of attraction the primary cause of homophobia of course, neither does it explore the impetus of that denial.

I personally feel like we can put a lot of the blame on misogyny, and like Ghost said at a threat that is perceived when people don’t conform to gender norms. This is why effeminate gay men have been treated worse than butch gay men going back to ancient Rome, and to a degree explains why “butch” lesbians are treated worse than “lipstick” lesbians. Of course butch lesbians and more effeminate gay men are also easier to identify as being different from the norm, but I don’t think this entirely explains away the role gender norms play in violent homophobia.

This model predicts that the degree to which a person’s sexual persona deviates from the accepted sexual order and hierarchy determines the the degree of derogation heaped upon them, which conforms at least to my observations. Gay tops tend to be seen as deviant but still manly, and therefore due some small modicum of respect as long as they aren’t perceived as an immediate threat, meaning as long as the “straight” male homophobe doesn’t fear the gay man will treat the homophobe the way the homophobe treats women. Lesbians on the other hand are subject to overt threats of rape and violence for the crime of not being available for the sexual use of men.

So why are homophobic men then more likely to be aroused by gay porn? Part of it is almost certainly denial, but an equal part is probably do to fixation on the perceived power of the penetrative act. They still get aroused by lesbian porn because they see women’s bodies as something to be possessed, something they’d like to have power over, but unlike straight guys they also get turned on by gay porn through that same fixation on sexual power.

I was originally going to say that to have this level of hate in them, I think they’d have to have a very personal reason for that hatred (meaning they are closeted and hate themselves). But then I thought of The Other and how people (mostly conservatives) hate anything they consider Other based on fear.

The sky in their earth is always gray, dark and gloomy. Imaginary enemies —and there are many — are always threatening them from within and without. These enemies speak in strange tongues, wear strange clothes, and have skin of varying shades. Some enemies use secret incantations called “facts,” which they hurl at the dwellers of this gray world in an effort to influence them. There is no joy or humor on this world. Their leaders only talk of doom and gloom, and speak in alarming tones of an evil demi-god called Obummer, who seeks to crush them and their kind, and his associate, a trickster demi-goddess only known as Killary — perhaps an analog of the Hindu Kali.

Avoid visiting this world at all costs. Dante’s Inferno was a vacation paradise by comparison.

And then there’s the whole war on Christmas nonsense. It’s starting earlier and earlier (as some outlets and vendors were already putting up Christmas decorations/sales even as Labor Day was upon us, and now Starbucks decided to go to war with a red cup, instead of a cup adorned with pagan symbols. Then, Roosevelt Field Mall, which is one of the nation’s biggest malls (and one of Simon Properties’ biggest malls), decided to put together a Santa/Christmas experience that didn’t include any Christmas trees (going with a sleek modernist white thing, that may be a play on the whole Frozen thing)

Cue outrageous outrage.

Nordstroms, however, has decided that they’re going to celebrate one holiday at a time, and wont put up Christmas decorations until Thanksgiving.

The idiocy over all this is deafening.

There is no war. There never was. Christmas is all over, even though few actually believe/understand the meaning/purpose of the holiday. Decorations? That’s not the holiday.

And it shouldn’t take a lonely Jew (on Christmas) to remind folks of that. Conspicuous spending isn’t what the holiday is about, though that’s what it has come to mean especially here in the US where vendors make most of their money during the holiday season. Chasing money is what businesses are trying to do, and that’s why they’re pushing the boundaries of the holiday season. First it was Black Friday, then it’s trying to get retailers to open on Thanksgiving night (and now during the day, even as there’s some pushback), but we’re even seeing Black Friday sales occurring weeks before Thanksgiving.

The entirety of the fall is now a blur of claiming big sales to get people into stores. And the Christmas decorations go up earlier and earlier. You’re not even celebrating Halloween until October 31 anymore as Christmas decorations go up before that. Thanksgiving/fall decorations? They’ve been nixed. Instead of enjoying each holiday in turn, it’s all about Christmas (all the time).

So, if some people want to boycott Roosevelt Field, by all means. It’ll just mean those that want to shop there will have one less idiot to contend with when trying to find a parking space or grab that latest must-have toy. Because that’s what the holiday season is really about.

War Thunder just had a major update, and the Mac version of it doesn’t want to download plus, according to what I’ve been reading, if it does download the game takes a huge performance hit on Macs.

I think I’ll wait a month or so before trying again.

Is it just me or have game developers gotten really lazy these days? Or maybe it’s just the pressure to get things out the door so that money can be made?

Because I don’t read about games until I have to (stuck; interwebs, plx to help) does this trailer imply that our main is quite customizable? All the stuff from E3 and up to the trailer was a male as the PC. RPGs feel, … odd … to me, playing as a guy.

The PC is fully customizable (the character creator looks amazing — I’ll probably spend at least an hour just playing with it) and the launch trailer featured about 50/50 male/female protagonist footage.

I’ll probably play as a female as well, because I really like the voice actor, and historically, female PCs in Fallout games have had a slight advantage in the Perk department.

Quote for the day:

However, a number of developments in our recent history make this pseudo-conservative uprising more intelligible. For two hundred years and more, various conditions of American development — the process of continental settlement, the continuous establishment in new areas of new status patterns, the arrival of continuous waves of new immigrants, each pushing the preceding waves upward in the ethnic hierarchy — made it possible to satisfy a remarkably large part of the extravagant status aspirations that were aroused. There was a sort of automatic built-in status-elevator in the American social edifice. Today that elevator no longer operates automatically, or at least no longer operates in the same way.

Secondly, the growth of the mass media of communication and their use in politics have brought politics closer to the people than ever before and have made politics a form of entertainment in which the spectators feel themselves involved. Thus it has become, more than ever before, an arena into which private emotions and personal problems can be readily projected. Mass communications have aroused the mass man.

Thirdly, the long tenure in power of the liberal elements to which the pseudo-conservatives are most opposed and the wide variety of changes that have been introduced into our social, economic and administrative life have intensified the sense of powerlessness and victimization among the opponents of these changes and have widened the area of social issues over which they feel discontent. There has been, among other things, the emergence of a wholly new struggle: the conflict between businessmen of certain types and the New Deal bureaucracy, which has spilled over into a resentment of intellectuals and experts.

Finally, unlike our previous postwar periods, ours has been a period of continued crisis, from which the future promises no relief. In no foreign war of our history did we fight so long or make such sacrifices as in World War II. When it was over, instead of being able to resume our peacetime preoccupations, we were very promptly confronted with another war. It is hard for a certain type of American, who does not think much about the world outside and does not want to have to do so, to understand why we must become involved in such an unremitting struggle. It will be the fate of those in power for a long time to come to have to conduct the delicate diplomacy of the cold peace without the sympathy or understanding of a large part of their own people. From bitter experience, Eisenhower and Dulles are learning today what Truman and Acheson learned yesterday.

I’ve only watched a few episodes of Undercover Boss, but everyone one I’ve seen, the CEO cannot keep up with the employees. The CEO does different work, but not necessarily harder work, than the employees.

Isn’t the unemployment rate for veterans twice the national average. Are they lazy bums?

Are soldiers, sailors, and Marines lazy bums? AFter all they make a fraction of what the CEO of Boeing makes. //

Mine workers are far more hard working than the folks who run the mine from an office desk. And they’re paid far less too.

If you think the line cook in a restaurant isn’t working as hard or harder than the CEO of a company who spends time behind a desk, and whose toughest part of the job is the commute to his office, or explaining to his board why he deserves a raise while keeping wages flat for everyone beneath him, there’s something wrong with your worldview.

When I worked at Giant Food, my first job in High School, there was a ton of turnover not just among the high school kids like me but also among some of the adults. What Costco and that one company whose CEO decided to give a generous raise to his employee get that the right doesn’t is that you have to make your place of work enjoyable to work. If it’s just a paycheck, I’m going to be constantly seeking a way out. Pay me fairly, treat me right, and create a place I like to work at, you’re not only going to create a productive worker but also one that will consume your product and also recommend it to their friends.

The thing really pisses me off about the estate tax and it being trimmed down to a point where it’s almost nonexistent is the stepped-up tax basis that inheritors get in any property they receive. A simple summary is here:

The general rule is referred to as the “step-up” basis rule. That is, the heir receives a basis in inherited property equal to its date of death value. So, for example, if Uncle Harry bought Kodak stock in 1935 for $500 and it’s worth $5 million at his death, the basis is stepped up to $5 million in the hands of his heirs and all of that gain escapes income taxation forever.

When the Eagles (or Philly fans generally) hold the high ground on anything, you know you’re truly screwed.

Of course, that it took photo/video evidence to show that Greg Hardy assaulted someone, shows just how screwed up the NFL remains, and how even photo/video evidence isn’t enough to convict people of assault under “normal” circumstances, let alone those who are in law enforcement engaging in excessive force.

Heh. I just Googled “Bernie Sanders Tax Plan”

He doesn’t say anything about income tax, but wants to reinstate the inheritance tax for estates over $3.5 million.
sanders.senate.gov

I’d probably leave the exemption where it is but eliminate the ability of husbands and wives to add their deceased spouses unused exemption to their own. $5.43 million sounds like a lot but it can easily be reached by families who are still firmly in the middle class, especially in real estate markets like Manhattan and SoCal. That exemption also applies to the entire estate after charitable giving, and not to each recipient’s bequeathal.

I’d probably also encourage wealthy people to give more while alive by raising the gift tax exemption ($14K per giver to each unique recipient per year.) I’d also encourage the well off to give more while alive by presenting gift givers the option of paying tax gift amounts over that limit at a rate less than the current 40% instead of just taking that amount off their lifetime estate exemption.

You are going to have to get used to the fact that the term “conservative” as it applies to the GOP right now has been seriously tainted by the likes of Palin and the current crop of extreme self-styled conservatives in Congress, as well as every single person who labels any Republican who doesn’t agree 100% with their over-the-top slash-and-burn beliefs as not a “true/real conservative” but is instead a RINO.

Yep. So sue me but I have a negative perception of conservativism and conservatives due to the rhetoric and actions of prominent self-described conservatives. If sane conservatives want to do something about people like me perceiving them and their ideology that way then they need to admit that their ideology has largely been co-opted by extremists in recent years.

Short version: serious racist incidents he did nothing about.

The protests at the campus began after the student government president, who is black, said in September that people in a passing pickup truck shouted racial slurs at him. Days before the homecoming parade, members of a black student organization said slurs were hurled at them by an apparently drunken white student.

Also, a swastika drawn in feces was found recently in a dormitory bathroom.

Butler, who participated in the homecoming parade protest, began his hunger strike on Nov. 2 to call attention to racial problems at the state’s flagship university.

Many of the protests have been led by an organization called Concerned Student 1950, which gets its name from the year the university accepted its first black student. Its members besieged Wolfe’s car at homecoming last month, and they have been conducting a sit-in on a campus plaza since last Monday

Oh, and he thinks that this was all agitated by someone who’s connected to Sen. McCaskill’s office.

It’s early to be talking polls, but since the GOP is fixated on them, here’s a reminder of why they need to drag Hillary through the mud and worse - she’s kicking ass and taking names. Every last one of the GOPers who are currently in the race are losing to her in head to head matchups. They need to drag Hillary’s numbers down, or else they stand no chance next year.

That’s why they needed the Benghazi hearings. That’s why they need to dredge up all the past scandals/non-scandals/outrageous outrages/nontroversies/etc. to try and hit Hillary. And yet we’ve had 2 decades of vetting of Hillary so these “scandals” aren’t helping the GOP close the gap.

Its true that the demographics keep changing in the Democrats favor, but as we here in Kentucky saw, not voting can have bad results. We had only 31% turnout, and our new teabagger Governor is going to waste hundreds of millions of dollars to shutdown the popular Kentucky healthcare exchange precisely because its popular and puts Obamacare in a positive light.

Carson is not going to be the GOP nominee. Trump has a better chance than everyone originally thought, but as of right now I think Rubio is the most likely nominee, but by no means a prohibitive favorite. Its hard for me to see how Jeb gets back on track; there just isn’t any desire anywhere on the political spectrum for putting another Bush in the White House.

The power of images (and tweets):

Prime Minister Netenyahu is meeting with President Obama today at the WH. It’s the first face-to-face meeting since the Iran deal was made.

Smiling and happy Obama/Netenyahu vs angry/scowling Obama/Netenyahu. Each used to proffer their own messages devoid of context.

Mind you, the President indicated that while there are disagreements with the Iran deal, both Israel and US agree Iran shouldn’t be allowed to get nukes. It’s the president’s contention that the deal delays Iran getting nukes.

With no deal in place, Iran is far more likely to get a nuclear weapon, since there’s no mechanism in place to know what Iran is doing. With the deal, there’s a mechanism to figure out what they’re doing, to track how they produce nuclear materials, and to figure out what they’re doing with the various enrichment processes. It’s not a perfect deal, but it’s better than nothing at all.

And it was never a US-Iran deal, but the P6+1. Other parties involved helped shape the deal. Israel wasn’t part of the deal, and neither was Saudi Arabia, but both would benefit from Iran not going nuclear (and it’d be more likely Iran goes after Saudi Arabia with nukes than Israel - due to the Sunni-Shi’a religious and regional rivalries rather than going after Israel, particularly since Israel and Iran have far more in common than either would care to admit).

lolwhut, it’s a myth that 50% of marriages end in divorce? The American Psychological Assocation wants to have a talk with you:

Marriage and divorce are both common experiences. In Western cultures, more than 90 percent of people marry by age 50. Healthy marriages are good for couples’ mental and physical health. They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational and social problems. However, about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce. The divorce rate for subsequent marriages is even higher.

From some of the stuff I am finding online, it might be lower than 50%, but that might be more attributable to people waiting to get married and actually spending more time with someone before marrying, instead of getting married to someone at age 18 (or younger). The 50% figure also seems to date to when no-fault divorce laws were introduced which caused a spike in divorces at that time.

Of course, numbskull Crowder would, of course, be against a couple cohabitating before they got married.

It depends on how you’re counting. Overall, something like 50% of marriages end (ended? I haven’t seen recent statistics) in divorce. That’s counting marriage ceremonies (e.g. Liz Taylor had eight).

On the other hand, more than 70% of couples stay married a lifetime (I’ve heard up to 80%, again, no recent statistics). That, of course, is counting people and not ceremonies.

I am very happy that the athletes have been able to affect change at Mizzou. But wondering if any other group of students would have had the same power?

Football is big business. Money talks.

Takes me back to “Sports Night” and The Six Southern Gentlemen of Tennessee—an episode where football players refused to play under the Confederate flag.

The Isaac character’s (Robert Guillaume) editorial was classic:

This afternoon, an
extraordinary young man named Roland
Shepard made what had to have been an
excruciating decision. He said he
wasn’t playing football under a
Confederate flag. Six of his teammates
then chose not to let Shepard stand
alone. I don’t know how many people
witnessed this spectacle, but it was a
sight to see. Seven men, the oldest of
them not yet 21 and all of them
knowing full well the potential
consequence of their actions. And I
choose to join them at this moment.
In the history of the South, there’s
much to celebrate. And that flag is a
desecration of all of it. It’s a
banner of hatred and separation. It’s
a banner of ignorance and violence and
a war that pitted brother against
brother, and to ask young black men
and women, young Jewish men and women,
Asians, Native Americans, to ask
Americans to walk beneath its shadow
is a humiliation of irreducable
proportions. And we all know it…

And this aired in 19 fucking 98. Sigh.

Joshua Feuerstein — a former pastor who calls himself a “social media personality” — posted a video on Facebook last week, criticizing Starbucks for removing “Christmas from their cups because they hate Jesus.”

In an email to CNNMoney Sunday, Feuerstein noted that his video has had more than 10 million views.

“I think Starbucks has gotten the message that the Christian majority in this country has awakened and are demanding that our voice be heard,” Feuerstein reportedly wrote.

The video was shared more than 440,000 times and #MerryChristamasStarbucks trended on Facebook throughout the weekend. However, some social media users defended the coffee company for their cups.

Yep, but FO4 adds the ability to customize both in the same game, so even if you play male, you can make your wife look however you like. And the baby in the intro sequence is generated based off the look of the male and female PCs, which seems to be way too much work spent on something that only shows up in the intro.

This Joshua Feuerstein guy is also the same guy featured in this story:

Gun toting evangelist attacks boy with doll video by having his kids shoot guns

Earlier this week, a dad took to Facebook and posted a video that showed his reaction to when his son picked out a doll. And like any good parent should, he reacted with excitement and joy, because his son was very excited to have his new toy. Who cares that it was a doll?

Well, one guy did. One seemingly very insecure, over-compensating guy whose machismo made him make one of the most bizarre videos ever made on the topic of gender neutral toys.

Joshua Feuerstein, a self-described former television and radio evangelist, took to his own Facebook page and went after the dad who had the audacity to let a child pick a toy that he’d like to play with. Not Feuerstein’s boy though, that’s not acceptable. No son of his is going to play with dolls. He’s literally putting down the other dad for letting his son express who he wants to be. God forbid, the kid turn out to be well-balanced and confident in his own skin, Feuerstein wants his kids to be the little clay puppets he creates them to be.

How does he plan on going about molding his children? By teaching his kids to use his version of gender neutral toys — guns. Yes, he just said guns are toys. What a responsible gun owner and dad he is.

How are they gender neutral? Well, he’s not only going to let his very young son shoot the gun, but also his very young daughters. The video even shows his son holding the gun and firing it at a target.

These are the kind of people Jesus tossed out of the temple.

As a Starbucks customer, I can tell you what would keep me out of their stores: allowing people to carry guns into their establishment.

I no longer go into Krogers. I will not shop in a place that asks for gun violence and allowing every Tom, Dick or Harry to carry a gun into an establishment means I won’t go in. This is non-negotiable.

463
Kragar  Nov 9, 2015 • 10:43:44am

And now we add another item to the “Microsoft is dumb” list:

Microsoft has paid out what can safely assume was a large amount of money to Square Enix in order to snag the timed exclusivity right to Rise of the Tomb Raider, but here’s where things get more than a little dumb: the game was given the release date of November 10th, 2015. That’s tomorrow, and is coincidentally the same date that Fallout 4 will be released, a hugely anticipated follow-up to one of the most popular games of all time. Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t have a chance of toppling Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG, and if Rise of the Tomb Raider wasn’t a well-reviewed game that was the subject of a major exclusivity deal, then we’d all suggest that it had been sent out to die.

When they first started doing tea (had to be before 1995, because that’s when I last lived within 100 miles of one) they offered to give me another cup using the same teabag, and I was as horrified as if they had offered to use coffee grounds a second time for a customer.

I think Carson may have just bested Palin for the World Champion Word Salad title belt.

This coming from a person who should, theoretically, know something about central nervous system biochemistry; yeah, we know that cutters are stupid about physiology, but he’s a neurologist, FFS. This is really damaging to the addiction community in general and addicts in particular to propagate the moral deficiency myth that has been debunked for many, many, decades.

It also point directly (yet again) at his religious convictions subjugating the reality that is fact and evidence based science. He is a scary individual.

Early November is a regular release period for a lot of top-rated games and especially eagerly-awaited followups. Last November was Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed, year before that was FIFA and a couple of other AAA titles. Theories abound on the reasoning for this timing; it’s after Hallowe’en but before Thanksgiving and Black Friday and well before Christmas, dates where loose cash will be sucked up by Other Things than games.

re: #480 Timothy Watson

I’ve never had Starbucks actually, but I think that’s because of my contrarian nature. I usually go to Wawa if I need coffee.

I can usually get 3 Wawa cups of coffee for the price of a single cup at Starbucks.
Wawa > Starbucks

I can usually get 3 cups of Dunkin Donuts for the price of 2 at Starbucks. D’nD > Starbucks

Local chains are usually comparable to Starbucks. But the quality still favors the local chains.

The only place where the price actually matches the quality? Seattle.

But I still don’t get why anyone thinks that the red cup is a sign that Starbucks has declared war on Christmas. It’s not even frickin’ half past pumpkin spice latte, and we’re already into mint season.
