From downstairs, regarding the “keeping an open mind” version of both-siderism:

The thing is that after spending enough time gathering and weighing evidence, it is judgement time. And my conclusion for Republicans is this:

1) The Republican party is utterly worthless. It has no fixed principles other than lower taxes on the rich and less business regulations, both of which are beyond superfluous in the kind of corporate dominated plutocracy the US currently is.

2) Realizing that getting votes for their real agenda is difficult, Republicans have embarked on a decades-long propaganda campaign to transform the party into moral monsters, where sociopaths at the top lead the seething resentful masses of the GOP base via the most perfect propaganda operation in history.

3) Trump is properly understood as the inevitable consequence of the GOP’s ongoing degeneration into a reactionary fascist death cult.

Do not work for or vote for Republicans.

“…Doe first began working in the Idaho Statehouse a year ago, helping with legislative committees under the Legislature’s high school “page” program.

She came back this year as an intern, hoping to prepare for a future career in government. She said she agreed to von Ehlinger’s dinner invitation because she was hoping to network and was excited to go to a restaurant that cost far more than what she could afford on her near-minimum wage salary.

After dinner, von Ehlinger brought her back to his apartment rather than her car because he said he’d forgotten something. Once there, Doe said, he pinned her down and forced her to perform oral sex, despite the fact that she said “no” in several ways and froze. Doe is petite, and von Ehlinger is bigger, she said.

“He has a collection of guns. Fight or flight was never an option,” she said.

re: #2 No Malarkey!

The official legal definition of genocide (per the UN Convention on Genocide):

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

1.Killing members of the group;
2.Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
3.Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
4.Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
5.Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group

The only “difficult” thing about understanding genocide is admitting someone committed it. I mean, it’s not too difficult to argue that the US and Canada committed genocide against Native Americans/First Nations.

re: #47 ericblair

(From the previous thread, because I was driving someone to her second shot of the vaccine.) I can’t disagree with any of it. I do believe there are many ways that we can do to reduce the perverse incentives that currently prevent us from talking about wealth taxes, or increased estate taxes, because of the secondary implications.

- If companies are worried about over concentration, they should contractually require certain employees with enough stock to cause problems if they have to sell to do the appropriate rigmarole so that their heirs don’t have to liquidate large percentages of company stock.

- Instead of selling stock, they can hand public stock in to some government-controlled entity, that will manage sales to maximize tax revenues. Other countries have sovereign wealth funds to manage government owned investments. But they’re usually resource-rich countries which need revenue for after their oil runs out.
But we had TARP. TARP was for stabilizing troubled assets. One can definitely disagree with the priorities and morals of the program* — it stabilized the financial assets, but didn’t say buy out or hold troubled _mortgages_, allowing people like Steve Mnuchin and Tom Barack to profit off of the misery of millions who had been fleeced by a predatory banking system. However, it showed that the government can own significant amounts of securities for a limited time in a competent manner.**

As far as company stock in retirement plans — I’m fairly sure companies have to tell employees that if company stock, or a security derived from it were an option in their retirement, they need to warn their employees about the risk of non-diversification. I’m not sure if this started before or after Enron.

*And on a related note not enough of the people who got us into the mess in 2008 were punished.

**Hell, we could even give companies a choice — if you want owners of your stock to be able to give stock in kind for tax payments, rather than selling to pay their taxes, they need to meet certain criteria of accountability, compensation,….

He has to try. Legal ethics demand it. If he doesn’t at least put in the effort, no one’s going to want him to defend them, and it leaves open an argument for the defendant himself to appeal based on ineffectiveness of legal counsel.

That future is coming if we don’t blow ourselves up first, and IMHO it’s closer than most people realize. Microsoft has invested extremely heavily into their developer infrastructure in the last 5-6 years. Ever since around 2015, that investment has paid dividends, as Visual Studio and asp.net quickly became a top-tier enterprise development environment. Microsoft’s Azure cloud provider offerings have expanded rapidly, as well. It’s less prevalent than AWS in the enterprise space, but I’ve used it extensively and it has some very powerful capabilities.

Also, it has been raining here pretty much nonstop for over two days. 13 inches. We get maybe an hour or two where it stops and then it’s back with a vengence. Storms with thunder and lightening. Cleo doesn’t bark at sirens or even the dog barking next door, but she is terrified of thunder and lightning as we have found out since this freaking monsoon started. Rain doesn’t bother her, but the rest is not her favorite. You really haven’t lived til you’ve spent the day with a stressed out mess of a GSD. Even her calm down treats aren’t helping. She finally laid down with the hubby on the couch and stopped pacing the floors for hours on end.

It’s probably a good thing my tummy is tore up from stress or I would begin drinking, heavily.

It’s worse than that: Asshats like Rouzer do not believe there should be a minimum wage at all, that the existence of one is detrimental people who want jobs because it artificially inflates the cost of labor, and that businesses should be free to pay “whatever the market will bear.”

If anything, they think workers should be angry at the existence of a minimum wage because it means no matter how hard you work, you’ll still be paid the same as the slacker who always shows up late and doesn’t take his job seriously. What’s that? Give you a raise? Sorry, you’ll have to wait for your annual performance review, and then another 3-6 months for home office to approve it. Now remember to duck when the next customer chucks their burger at you because the tomato was cut “too thick.”

By the way, that last bit wasn’t a joke, that shit really did happen:

You can go onto Youtube, Twitter, TikTok, and other platforms to find plenty of instances of fast food employees getting bombarded with abuse and treated like total shit. And that was before they also had to worry that each interaction with a customer might either force them to stay home without pay for weeks or possibly lead to hospitalization and/or death.

Not only do MAGAts think those people shouldn’t be paid more than $7.25/hr, many actually think they’re already being overpaid because “Any idiot can flip a burger!” Funny how they whine up a fuckin’ storm when those idiots refuse to flip the burgers…

It has become clear to me that the foul idea that the less someone earns the less worthy they are as a human being is deeply entrenched in US society (this is why I absolutely despite the term “net worth” BTW).

So it turns out I had been driving past Four Seasons Landscaping off and on over the last 15 years, whenever I was cutting through Northeast Philly to avoid traffic jams on I-95. There’s actually a really good BBQ place about 200 yards north of Four Seasons.

For the non-Philly Lizards, I cannot stress how batshit it was to chose that business and that area for Guilliani and Trump to make their last stand in PA. That section of State Road is highly industrial and one of the least picturesque in all of the city.

About a mile up the road from the landscaper is a prison, FWIW.

They feel that way because businesses have conditioned them to act that way. Anybody who has ever worked in the service industry has experienced at least one time in their careers where they were facing an angry customer and trying to follow company policy, only for a supervisor/manager to jump in front of them and do whatever it took to satisfy the ego of that customer.

Why is that? Because the rise of social media and online review sites has made feedback almost immediate and the ability to damage a business’ reputation all the easier. Gone are the days when word of mouth was the stock in trade, now you have to worry that some dipshit who got a free meal and coupons for future meals will still go onto Yelp! and slag you because your dining experience was “ruined.” Even the “well-meaning” folks will still damn with faint praise, such as lauding the staff service while declaring their hotel room as “disgusting” and saying they’ll never stay there again.

What’s really driving the ouster:

Other Republicans are worried the party will lose a powerful asset by dumping Cheney.

“They need a Liz Cheney in there somewhere. They need to show to the non-Trump Republicans, who they need in the suburbs, that the party has the welcome mat out for some Republican voters who are maybe not completely sold on Trump and ended up defecting,” said Davis. “On the other hand, you’ve got to have leaders working together, not across purposes.”

Wingnuts never see it that way. Or if they do, they believe that the businesses that don’t raise their wages will come out on top when the “free money” ends and people are forced to go back to work. That the companies which raise wages now in order to attract workers will be at a disadvantage in a few months because they’ll have to raise prices in order to pay those higher wages, allowing the companies which stick to poverty wages to gobble up all the demand for “cheap” goods/services.

That’s certainly what they’ve worked to reduce it to. The story of conservatism in the 20th century has been the continued effort to undo all the achievements of the Progressive Era while convincing the common folk that doing such is not simply “beneficial” but downright “American.”

It’s not the “working class” that supports this. I can’t remember the exact numbers, but people with incomes of $50,000 or less went heavily for Biden. It was the more prosperous who supported DT, and who are the core support of the repugs. The people who stormed the Capitol were the comfortably well off, as we have many times noted.

nope, not as cheaply as possible — cheaper than that.

As cheaply as possible makes sense — it means a living wage, or more if you can’t find enough workers at that price. Tories want to pay less than the market price for workers because they are more interested in hierarchy than economics.

What they really want is the 1955 that exists in Norman Rockwell paintings and Leave It To Beaver, a fictionalized past where “those people” lived on the other side of the train tracks and had to be out of town by sundown, where womenfolk only ventured out of the house to attend church and buy the week’s groceries, where young boys were always getting into scuffles because that made “men” out of them while little girls were being prepared for their futures as wives, and where everybody was a Godfearin’ Christian who would sooner swallow broken glass than utter something scandalous like “equal rights” or “desegregation” in public where the neighbors could hear them.

Britain is starting to plan the rollout of booster vaccinations for COVID-19 for at least some of the population starting in September. This would be for people who were already vaccinated during the spring and early summer, with over-50s the main target group. The idea is that older people are more at risk of serious illness and deaths if there is a third wave of infections this winter as the modellers believe.

The booster shot may be a different vaccine from the one individuals have received previously. There is research going on at the moment to try and determine whether this hybrid approach to choosing the booster shot provides noticeably better protection.

In both cases what they really want is hierarchy. Republican politicians want to be on top of the heap, free to do whatever they want to do — steal, rape, kill. Republican followers, like all RWAs, want to be able to shit on people who are not members of their group and to live in “stable” hierarchical societies.

Snow White found dead in castle after refusing to sign a consent form

Snow White has been found dead in a castle today after refusing to sign a consent form allowing Prince Charming to bring her back to life with a kiss.

The rotting corpse of Ms White was discovered earlier today by a number of dwarves alongside a hastily prepared form of consent, unsigned by the princess and a sobbing Prince Charming, who was arrested by authorities shortly after on suspicion of manslaughter.

Describing the scene, officer Simon Williams told us, “It’s a tragedy, and what makes it worse is that it could have easily been avoided.

“Our enquiries have led us to believe that Snow White could indeed have been saved, by a kiss from Prince Charming, her true love, which would have woken her from her sleep and no doubt saved her life.

“But he needed written consent, obviously, as she was fast asleep - but she just refused to sign, mainly because she was under spell and unable to wake up.

While Washington reporters are busy asking whether President Joe Biden is living up to his promises to reach across the aisle, far more Americans think it’s congressional Republicans who are failing the bipartisanship test.

In a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, fully 67% of respondents say GOP leaders in Congress are doing too little to compromise with Biden, while just 22% called their approach “about the right amount” and 10% said they were doing too much.

Meanwhile, most Americans—51%—say Biden is compromising “about the right amount” with Republican leaders, while 39% say he’s doing too little and 9% say he’s compromising “too much.”

So overall 60% of Americans say the president is either executing the right amount of bipartisanship or too much of it.

As others will note, the original purpose and intent of FB was for Mark Z to rate the hotness of other students (women) at Harvard and to creep on them - but make it in such a way that they could monetize the data, and make it as though you’re willingly sharing all this info for “free”.

They’re referring, of course, to the Declaration of Independence, where it says: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” What they seem to keep getting wrong, obviously, is that this is the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution; that the Declaration does not explicitly reference the Christian God, but merely uses the phrase “their Creator” to describe some unknowable concept; and that the rights described mention Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, none of which involve guns save for that guns make taking away those inalienable rights much, much easier.

Note how not one single Democrat has the backbone to say they are a liberal. This is due to Old Fart Bush and Fat Ass Ailes turning that word into an insult.

Sure would be nice to see Democrats get a backbone and stand up to the QAP…

re: #249 O say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave..

My creator(s) were my mother and father. That’s how I take the line in the Declaration.

However you want to take it, that’s fine. The point is that it’s not “God”, in the literal Christian sense of the word, and that the rights granted thereunder are not the Constitutional rights. The rights guaranteed by the Constitution are granted by the Constitution of the United States, and the government it duly establishes, and they can be restricted or even outright taken away by said government by following the proper practices established in the Constitution for such purpose.

That and the Declaration was not a document intended for the colonists here; it was a document declaring our stand to the other nations of the world (particularly Europe). Those nations largely had state religions, and the people of those nations were almost entirely Christian.

The true stance of the Founders can be found in Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli of 1796. It was passed by unanimous consent of the Senate, a veritable who’s who of the founders at the time.

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

So, they’ll keep reviewing Trump’s ban every six months despite the fact that his actions are unchanged, he’s unrepentant, and continues to spew the lies.

Meanwhile, FB allows links to his “blog” to circulate without any warnings despite the fact that those too violate the TOS.

FB is broken. It has always been broken, and despite all the calls that FB is liberal, the reality is that FB algorithms have allowed right wing fever swamps to overwhelm all other messaging and allow the lies to spread across the planet.

As others will note, the original purpose and intent of FB was for Mark Z to rate the hotness of other students (women) at Harvard and to creep on them - but make it in such a way that they could monetize the data, and make it as though you’re willingly sharing all this info for “free”.

I think if FB decides to permanently ban TFG in 6 months, they don’t have to keep reviewing it.

Mom got drunk - we didn’t try to stop her though my sister did pour half her bottle of wine down the sink when she wasn’t looking - only takes one glass anyway and she’s buzzed. She asked me to get her suitcases from the garage (bed doesn’t arrive until tomorrow, so they can’t move in until Friday) and she filled them up so they’ll be ready. She said she’s going to go along with it (because we’re making her) and we gently shot that down…again. But she’s more resigned to it. These things usually take about 2-3 days for her to accept. I’ve been here for six so this was harder.

Going to pack some of the extra furniture of theirs which my sister has here and put it in their room, as well as a big mirror (adds depth) and a few comfort items. When the bed arrives tomorrow my brother and sister will have to take care of it. I’m headed home this afternoon.

It’s taken me a while to actually come to terms with this. You’re absolutely right, but it’s counter-intuitive to anyone who doesn’t really understand how the free market works. People tend to think that “barriers to entry” mean that it has to be easy for a company to swoop in and get as big of a customer list as they want.

Outbreak in Kearney nursing home proves value of COVID vaccines

On the surface, the news sounds alarming: More than half the residents of a Kearney nursing home recently contracted COVID-19, even after the vast majority already had been vaccinated.

But rather than casting doubt on the effectiveness of vaccines, the unusual outbreak at the central Nebraska care facility stands as proof that shots work.

While 23 residents tested positive for the deadly virus, only two ever showed any symptoms, which were mild and quickly cleared.

In short, the vaccinations protected the home’s vulnerable residents.

303
Anymouse 🌹🏡😷  May 5, 2021 • 8:04:48am

The outbreak is believed to have been caused by vaccine-shy workers in the convalescent home.

The early April outbreak at the Good Samaritan Society-St. Luke’s facility in Kearney is one of only two large nursing home outbreaks documented nationally in the wake of widespread nursing home vaccinations. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on April 21 issued a report on a similar outbreak in Kentucky.

Health officials say the two outbreaks show the importance of convincing hesitant nursing home workers to get vaccinated. It’s believed the Nebraska and Kentucky outbreaks were precipitated by unvaccinated workers bringing the virus into the homes.

We would have to create an entire new section of law to deal with companies like Facebook, Amazon, Google, Spotify, and Twitter, and I’m not sure how you’d do it. All the law currently protects is if they tried to use their power to prevent competitors, and there’s no reason for them to even try to block a competitor. That is a kind of monopoly power, but it would be very hard to define legally.

Right. A monopoly is a company that can exert its influence to prevent competitors from getting established in their market. If Facebook leveraged its platform to degrade the user experience for people who used competing products, that’s anti-competitive behavior. As it is, anyone can stand up a Facebook “competitor”, they just need to make a better product and get it advertised effectively enough.

By any objective measure, Parler was actually surprisingly successful. That it turned into a cesspool of right-wing hatred, leading to poor uptake among the general population, was simply the inevitable result of the platform literally being designed to host nazis.

OK, it’s a Charlie Kirk tweet, so (unless printed on soft paper so you could wipe your ass with it) useless nonsense, but what does he expect the “Supreme Court” to do (or even be able to do) about FB’s TOS practices? Maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but I have a hard time imagining that even this SCOTUS is going to want to overturn the fundamental legal basis of the private-enterprise Internet just to assuage the butthurt of RWNJs over being “banned” for lies and seditious incitements…

Though I imagine Kirk’s ideal scenario is probably more like one of the hack winger Justices issuing some Writ From On High forcing Facebook to reinstate the Orange Anus - to “own the libs”, of course…..

Opinion piece in the Omaha World-Herald. This resolution will be debated at noon Central in the Unicameral today.

For over 100 years the League of Women Voters has relentlessly advocated for voting rights and policies that protect democracy. It is from this experience that we are deeply disturbed by the April 23 introduction of Legislative Resolution 107 by State Sen. Mike Groene for both its content and how it was brought to the floor of the Legislature.

LR 107 begins by accusing the federal government of a coordinated plot to usurp all states’ rights. It haphazardly pulls incomplete phrases from the U.S. Constitution to “support” a handful of highly politicized issues including guns, abortion, religion, sexuality, voting access, land use, and vaccinations. We find Section 5 regarding the election process particularly concerning. Leaning into the false narrative that the recent election was fraudulent despite countless fact-based reports otherwise, LR 107’s authors assert the state’s power to suppress voter access through ID requirements, record purging and restrictions in voter supports.

We live in challenging times facing a pandemic, an uneasy transition of power, an individual versus collective rights debate, and a reawaking to systemic racial discrimination and violence. We encounter divisive language everywhere: the media, workplaces, even friends and neighbors. Whether by intention or negligence, it is inappropriate and unacceptable for our state leaders to fan the flames by not speaking against LR 107.

Conservatives care about “regular order” until they don’t.

In addition to its disquieting content, how LR 107 arrived on the floor of our Unicameral legislature is atypical. Proposed legislation goes through a well-established process which relies heavily on committees, allowing a subset of senators with “subject-matter jurisdiction” to act as policy gate keepers. Nebraska citizens, as members of the second house, may provide commentary on proposals. With LR 107, the manipulation of this process causes our concern to turn to alarm. Instead of being referred to the Government Committee, the appropriate committee considering its content, the drafters referred LR 107 to the Executive Committee, which manages the work of the Legislature. Why?

To pose that question and resolve the misassignment, State Sen. Megan Hunt introduced a motion on April 29 to re-refer LR 107 to the appropriate committee. She reported that one of LR 107’s lead writers, State Sen. Steve Halloran, explicitly stated a political decision was made to send the resolution to the Executive Committee because he feared the Government Committee would not move it forward due to previous “split votes on bills,” which we interpret as bills related to voter suppression and campaign financing. In response, State Sen. John McCollister, who serves on both the Executive Board and Government Committee, stated publicly that LR 107 was incorrectly assigned.

Sadly, the motion to re-refer failed and LR 107 waits to be moved forward in the lawmaking process. It appears Unicameral leadership has circumvented the checks and balances of legislative procedure.

The threshold needs to be raised to 5% which would eliminate a bunch of the splinter parties from sitting in the Knesset.

Bibi hasn’t managed to form a proper government in a couple of years (and several election tries). He’s overseen a caretaker government for the past year and change because he couldn’t get to 61 seats in the Knesset. Neither could anyone else.

Will this time be different with the Mount Meron disaster fresh on everyone’s mind given that the government gave the Haredi the green light despite known risks?

Changing the threshold would not alter the outcome here. The Israeli government has never had a majority party with 61 seats. It’s always had a coalition government of one form or another, and the election rules were designed to make sure that voices were heard across the political spectrum. Raising the threshold would not change fact that Likud remains the dominant pluralistic party with a significant lead over Yesh Atid. But Yesh Atid has a better chance of forming a coalition than Likud.

Our cases have been on the decline again, after a brief surge up to around 2000 new cases/day, we are down to about half that. We are up to 59% of adults with at least one dose, and 45% who have completed the series. I’m looking to see if they have rate statistics to see if we are running up against a wall of vaccine hesitancy, but I remember seeing a map the other day that showed the strong effectiveness of MN’s vaccination messaging, as something like 3/4 of the state’s counties had something over 80% willing to receive the vaccine, so I doubt it.

Local political news:

Two women got mad at the mayor of Kimball for some reason, so they filed a recall petition.

They then had second thoughts after the petition was approved by the state secretary of state and they’d already gathered signatures.

Now they want to withdraw the petition, and some of those who signed it want to withdraw their signatures.

There is no provision in state law to withdraw a recall petition once it’s been approved to circulate.

On such a petition, you have twenty days to collect signatures. The only way to stop the petition now is to stop collecting signatures to cause the petition to fail.

The mayor was still required to file a rebuttal to the petition (of sixty words or less).

Now the county attorney is involved to see if the petition can be withdrawn (it can’t).

Isn’t this like the third straight election where he has failed to assemble a coalition? What will it take for Israel to be rid of this odious asshole?

Fourth, after a year-long “COVID emergency” unity government, that Bibi sabotaged in late December.
And there won’t be a fifth (warning: lengthy explanation follows).
To form a coalition government in Israel, a prime minister needs the support of parties accounting for 61/120 parliament seats.
Bibi needed it before and failed, repeatedly.
Lapid already officially has close to that with the Jewish-left, the Arab parties and Lieberman’s secular-right party. On top of that, two anti-Bibi right-wing parties, one led by former-Likud minister Gideon Sa’ar (an ally-turned-enemy of Bibi) and another led by minister Naftali Bennet (a long-time personal enemy of Bibi, who worked with Lapid in the past and announced he has no problem being in a Lapid-led government) face almost certain political annihilation in the next elections. Neither can risk not joining the “change and healing government” Lapid has been assembling in recent days.

On top of that, leaders for one of the Ultra-Orthodox parties have stated that there are no ideological reasons to reject a Lapid government, and may join just to avoid losing political power while in the opposition.

It’s true that it ain’t over till the fat lady sings, but from the looks of it, Mrs. Netanyahu’s grand solo at the Israeli opera is just days away…

In the 2021 elections, 13 parties made it past the 3.25% threshold.
Out of a whopping THIRTY NINE.
The only solace this time is that the 26 parties that didn’t make the cut represented a small percentage of lost votes this year (only ~1.2%). But the distribution and ensuing political chaos remains harmful all the same.

Party in power typically has first shot at forming govt. The President in Israel’s sole job is to get knesset to form a government. If the party in power can’t form a coalition government, President goes to next party in size/strength to give them 30 days. Then, if they can’t, there’s another 30 days where they can try to hash out a coalition, and if that fails, new elections are called.

Biblical mistranslations:
See also: “A young woman will conceive” versus “a virgin will conceive”

Whether Jesus had “siblings” or “cousins”

The entire dogma of the Perpetual Virginity of the Holy Mother depends on that translation.

There was a famous bit during the debate over posting the Ten Commandments in public buildings. George W. Bush came out in favor. Some journalist, obviously a smart-ass with a couple semesters of comparative religion under his belt, asked him which version should be posted.

“The standard one,” Bush answered without giving any further elaboration.

I am pretty sure that in his mind he meant the King James Translation.

I do have mild tinnitus but I think my change in sleep habits can be attributed to my wife. My favorite was waiting to clear customs to leave Brasil, in a particularly long line while the Brasilians breezed through their own dedicated line since the process for them was much simpler. A large group of American missionaries (as declared by their shirts) were loudly complaining about why those people got to use a short line and they had to wait. They insisted they should be able to use the fast lane because they were Americans. No other rationale, just that they were Americans and therefore shouldn’t have to wait.

Not for the cold, I grew up in the Midwest where the extremes are nearly as extreme but for the extremes of daylight or lack there of and for the extremes of alcohol consumption.

big drama in woodpecker land today

a black bird - probably a grackle or somesuch came along and fought one of
woodpeckers then took over the hole in the tree

the two woodpeckers flew off

the black bird sat in the hold poking its head out for a bit then apparently left

because the woodpecker is back in the hole, now poking its head out

im guessing there were no eggs or chicks yet when the marauder squatted for 30 minutes

all’s well again (for now)
