I generally order 3-4 (depending on number of guests at dinner) and then ask them to surprise me with the colors/flavors selected. There are normally 5-6 different types there.
And we often end up halving or quartering them so that more people can try the different flavors.

Notice that the biggest cheers of the night from Boulder’s only conservatives (seriously, you could fit every Boulderite who calls themselves conservative in that one room) was when Rubio and Cruz whined about the media.

On March 13, 1969, Kerry commanded one of five Navy Swift boats in a raid up the Bay Hap River and won a Bronze Star for actions under enemy fire. Thurlow commanded one of the other boats, and he has claimed in constant media rounds that there was no enemy fire. But, as the Post reported, Thurlow also won a Bronze Star that day, and the citation that accompanied it referred to “enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire” directed at “all units.”
That’s all it ever took for me, Thurlow and the other SBVFTruthers were a bunch of lying hacks.

I thought Kasich did really well. He was the only one trying to tack a centrist stance on some things. Which is funny because he’s a dyed-in-the-wool wingnut who used to work for Fox News.

If memory serves correctly, the only big raucous noise that came from the audience in tonight’s debate came when the candidates talked about the media and how awful it is. Even agitprop policy talk was greeted with a mostly tepid response. Now, this was a roomful of Republicans from Colorado and perhaps surrounding states in freaking Boulder. The room was destined to be quieter than the plane room at Ron Reagan Library in Simi.

Please do. You saw earlier the excerpts I posted from the Mapes book. She and Rather have been driving this narrative since they got the axe from CBS. Mapes to this day is convinced the documents still might be legitimate and there’s a good chance Rather is too. Unfortunately I haven’t seen many in the media covering the film really challenge them on that.
It will be a great disservice if you do not respond to this and promote the hell out of it.

Good thing about being a US expat is that our culture is so prevalent and all-permeating that it is easy to keep up with. And at times, like during the OJ Simpson trial, the Clinton impeachment or the Michael Jackson trial/funeral, I was glad to be at a distance.
I did not necessarily plan on staying here and making it home, but things started getting interesting in 1989 so I decided to stick around. Now I have kids and everything, so I guess I will be here for a while yet.

I really was not sure if I was gonna stay in Germany in 1988, it was a rather strange and schizophrenic place…it took the upheavals in Europe and German reunification to convince me to stick it out and see what became of it.
And whenever I get homesick, I just turn on the news about the latest mass shooting, police beating or the GOP debate/polling results and I suddenly feel a lot better…

I disagree. The 27% will vote for whomever the teabagger candidate is. If the GOP does a run around to give them Jeb! or perhaps even Rubio, they are going to lose a percentage of that 27% because they are the kind that won’t vote for anyone but the craziest of candidates. The GOP may know who they have to put up but if the GOP does an end run around the most populist candidate, they are going to lose support from the base. And while there may be some die hard Vote For Whomever The GOP Nominates voters…if they go off into crazy land, they are going to lose some Always R voters.

For one, the gangs aren’t everywhere, the police are present everywhere from the largest cities to the smallest towns. For two, the police are in a position of authority I.e ability to arrest and detain that gangs cannot. If I were black, I’d absolutely mistrust the police with all that happens.

It infuriates them because it proves the gospel they believe about low wages= good for business being sound. But that’s another issue I concede so I’ll stop rambling. It all makes sense to me. If you compensate your employees well, they’re going to work harder and they’re going to want to work. Not all of us have delusions of grandeur where one day we’re the “boss” and sitting on a multimillion dollar bonus. Would it be nice? Sure but is it realistic nope.
To me the biggest problem is a lot of these police departments don’t even seem to care about building up trust in heavily African-American communities. Force and power are valued more and that’s really a shame. I see right wing pundits and commentators give the African-American community especially a hard time when it comes to gang violence for not trusting the police but after seeing how the police are in places like Ferguson and other places, what reason do they honestly have? To paraphrase a quote in Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello in the Departed, if it comes down to gangsters or cops, what’s the real difference anyhow? A lot of us here in Suburbia have a rose eyed vision of the police. They’re our protectors. They were at Ground Zero on 9/11 etc. Just saying, I think it’s easy to see why this mistrust exists and why someone sadly would want to become an ex-pat.

Well phase two of the great genealogy hunt has began. I’ve contacted researchers in the places where my relatives lived both in the US and in Europe. My ultimate goal is to someday visit these places and be able to see the landscapes and buildings they would have seen and to learn about the history and perhaps find out what exactly made them leave. For some, it’s easier to understand than others. I do enjoy the research and attempting find out the human stories behind some of the names I’ve found though.

No, it was allowed. One of the few smart things Dick Morris has said since becoming a pundit was to discuss how Congressional votes are most often a sort of Kabuki dance: The Freedom Caucus had already decided to accept Paul Ryan as speaker, but to allow some of its members to mollify their own voter base those members were permitted to vote for Webster. Had it been needed, many of those voting for Webster would have voted for Ryan instead.
The votes for Webster were fake opposition, intended to allow the Congresspeople casting those votes to “fun the bozos” of their voter base.

Interesting. Funny you bring up the depression, since in the family history group I set up on Facebook, my relatives were wondering how my family weathered it. I think they did pretty good as my grandfather was a college graduate as was his older brother who also was a law school grad too so they did alright. They do seemed to have live a good life though. My great aunts and uncle’s parents had a house on Lake Erie I think that they went to in the summers.

2 dead in attempted home invasion
EAST MILLCREEK — An East Millcreek homeowner and a man whom police are calling a home invader are both dead after an exchange of gunfire overnight.
Unified police say Jesse Lee Bruner, 34, knocked on the door of the the home at 3730 S. Twinbrook St. (3145 East) about 2 a.m. Thursday.
The homeowner, 47-year-old Russell Reed Jacobs, answered the door but refused to let Bruner inside, police said. An altercation and a chase ensued when Bruner allegedly tried to force his way inside.
The two men, who were both armed, ran down the street where shots were fired.

So, the flat taxers are looking more and more like flat earthers when facts hit them upside the head.
For instance, got someone claiming that flat tax will create economic growth. I then tweet back KS, which went all flat tax, and proceeded to have a massive deficit and no economic growth. The response was that she’s talking at the federal level, and for me to do my own research (as opposed to her nonsensical and fact-free raving about flat tax).
Vicious then jumped in with some factual stylings, but this twit-nit is still going on about the virtues of flat taxes. Even though there’s absolutely no evidence it will spur economic growth or do anything other than shift tax burdens from rich to everyone else while exploding the deficit.
These people are economic illiterates and the GOP shills like Cruz are banking on them.

I will also point out that Jeb? is endorsing a higher education policy that has been adopted by social democratic European countries, whereby a smaller set of academically elite students gets a traditional university education, and the rest are streamed into vocational programs.
Besides, aren’t we told all the time about how part-time work at a place like Chik-Fil-A is an opportunity, not a dead-end? That it’s supposed to be the stepping stone to greatness if you put in effort, work hard, and look to find a better profession? Is Jeb? effectively admitting that it is a dead-end for many, which totally undercuts the whole argument that there’s no need for raising the minimum wage because nobody stays in those jobs forever?

To give context, people bring their dogs to the office here. Generally it’s not a problem since the dogs tend to be well behaved aside from barking at UPS delivery men or at mail carriers. There’s a sign on the door letting people know dogs are here and to not knock on the door.
Today a UPS guy showed up and brought dog treats, which he usually does. He can do his job, the dogs are happy. Today, two of the dogs fought over a treat that fell on the floor. The dogs got separated. One of the account executives, who owned one of the dogs in the fight, packed up and left the office, ironically complaining about the noise. The other dog owner, who is a developer, was already on edge about server issues he wasn’t able to solve right away.
One guy leaves. Another guy flips out and slams the door because of the issues he’s dealing with and the dogs. And we’re not even halfway through the day.
Fun times.

I was perfectly happy with a system that allowed students to pay for their education with part-time jobs or summer employment or low-cost student loans that did not not leave them totally straddled with debt before they even found their first job.

The only time I took my teenage kids to TYCTWD, my daughters got bored quickly and went to the mall across the street. My 15-year-old son brought his portfolio of school projects and spend the day with the graphic design team and actually learned a lot.

Yeah, urban street violence is more deadly. So what? We pay the cops to do a job, thus we hold them to a much higher standard than we do street criminals. Those criminals get arrested, convicted, and locked away for very long periods of time. The cops we’re talking about rarely even get prosecuted. Moreover, we’re paying their salaries and thus have a reasonable expectation that they’ll behave better than criminals.
