Yes—our schools have closed all over AL. The first hot storm cell blew by us, a second on the way.
Only one more episode of Iron Fist to go!
Episode 12 is by far the least interesting. We learn Harold can be killed by cutting off his head — shades of Highlander! We learn Bakuto can come back from the dead too. Colleen and Danny reconcile. The DEA raids the dojo. Ward is still a shithead. The whole ep felt like filler to make sure the series had 13 episodes.
I’m watching it all the way through, just so I can have the complete background for The Defenders, but despite our head lizard’s positive reviews of IF, I just want it to be over. I keep hoping The Stick will show up and knock some sense into Danny like he did Mike, but nope.

My daughter and her fiance live in Montgomery. I’m worried about them being impacted by the second wave of storms. She’ll call me if anything happens that affects their domicile. I just checked the weather for Macon, where I live, and the forecast is to expect thunderstorms, some severe early this morning and it expect a severe thunderstorm later tonight. I weathered the tornado that hit here in 2008, except for minor damage to my house which required a new roof and repairs in my kitchen and office. My daughter’s car, which was parked under a tree in our backyard, was totally destroyed when a huge oak tree fell on it. The 2008 tornado was scary. It was an EF-2. One of my three baths is an interior bath, so that is where we sheltered in 2008, and where I plan to do the same if the thunderstorm is transformed into another tornado.

Let’s be brutally honest here. There are no good options. Assad has committed democide and used WMDs (sarin). IS are genocidal as well.

Pick your least bad option, and it’s still plenty bad.
This is why when Obama demanded an AUMF from Congress, the GOP refused.— lawhawk (@lawhawk) April 5, 2017
There are no good options with Syria, but the least you can do is call out Assad for using sarin - a WMD.
Trump and his admin wont do that. Instead, they’ll attack Obama, who drew a red line on using WMDs. Turns out, after that red line was drawn, Assad didn’t use WMDs (and while there were attacks using chlorine gas, that doesn’t rise to use of a WMD - specific definitions apply.
But as soon as Trump winked and nodded in agreement with Putin that Assad could stick around, Assad began using prohibited weapons again - and then attacked the victims/survivors to wipe out traces of evidence against him.
This is all on Trump. No one else. He can’t pass the blame or the buck to Obama. Obama dealt with a bad situation and didn’t get the US drawn into a civil war/insurrection in Syria. Trump? By sending more troops into the country, that only increases the chances the US becomes targets for any number of enemies in the region.
Tactically, this is unwise. The gain of having troops on the ground to go after IS is outweighed by the fact that the US doesn’t have allies in Syria. Strategically, it’s also questionable.

The folk are gathering across the street for church (it’s early yet, but some people come early).
Part of our village one and six year street plan includes paving the block of street between my property and the church property (due to heavy traffic from out of town on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening).
It would be the first street in town paved if that project goes ahead. I would have to abstain on voting for it (as it would benefit me to have a paved street along my property). On the other hand, a lot of people in town are opposed to the project on the grounds it would impact the “rustic characteristic” of our village (the rustic characteristic being unpaved streets, apparently). So there is also the issue if I were to vote for this project, half the town would be after me for being a carpet-bagging Michigander on the village board trying to change what’s been a hundred years of no progress.
Yeah, if that project comes up for a vote, I think I’ll abstain.

Trump’s EPA moves to cut programs that protect children from lead paint
Environmental Protection Agency officials are proposing to eliminate two programs focused on limiting children’s exposure to lead-based paint — which is known to cause damage to developing brains and nervous systems.
The proposed cuts, outlined in a 64 page budget memo revealed by The Washington Post on Friday, would roll back programs aimed at reducing lead risks by $16.61 million and more than 70 employees, in line with a broader project by the Trump administration to devolve responsibility for environmental and health protection to state and local governments.
Old housing stock is the biggest risk for lead exposure — and the EPA estimates that 38 million U.S. homes contain lead-based paint.
Environmental groups said the elimination of the two programs, which are focused on training workers in the safe removal of lead-based paint and public education about its risks, would make it harder for the EPA to address the environmental hazard.

“Who’s a good witness?? Yesss! YOU!! Good witness! Good!!”…
Morning everyone.
Got a bit of good news this morning. A couple of weeks ago, I had just finished working out, and while in the shower looked at my stomach, and appeared to have a hernia. Then caught a quick bit of the flu. Got so sick that I couldn’t summon the energy to even watch the UK-UNC game last Sunday. All you from Kentucky know how sick someone must be to miss a game like that. Well, met with the surgeon this morning. Initial thought was that the top abs had split. That surgery would be needed. Well, 4-8 weeks possible recovery, which to a person who loves to run and workout would be hell.
Had the MRI, and surgeon says(paraphrase), “This is pretty amazing. You don’t need surgery after all. Your ab muscles are separating to a point, but the bottom layer is still intact. It’s good you are in such good shape, and your abs are so strong, they have prevented worse things from happening. We need to changed a little of your workout to rehab this area, but that is all you need.”
I feel pretty good today. I’m sure there is a Trump, McConnell, or Pepsi action that will fuck that up somehow.

Air Force says a pilot is safe after an F-16 crashed in Maryland. https://t.co/nJdG1Notvx
— The Associated Press (@AP) April 5, 2017
CLINTON, Md. (AP) — The Air Force says a pilot is safe after an F-16 crashed in Maryland.
The Air Force said Wednesday that the pilot was on a training mission in an F-16 from the Joint Base Andrews-based 113th Wing. Officials say the pilot ejected and is safe. The plane went down a few miles from Joint Base Andrews.
Prince George’s County fire department spokesman Mark Brady tells WRC-TV that one pilot parachuted out of the aircraft and was picked up by a military helicopter. He says the pilot was found in the same general area as the plane.
Brady says homes in the area are being evacuated. He says there are no other reports of injuries. He didn’t know whether anything on the ground was hit.
Just posted, more at the BBC:
Russia is objecting to a draft resolution on the chemical weapons deaths in northern Syria as the UN Security Council meets in New York.
Russian suggestions that civilians were poisoned by rebel weapons on the ground have been widely rejected.
The UK’s foreign secretary, a rebel commander and a weapons expert all said the evidence pointed to an attack by Syrian government forces.
The issue is also overshadowing an aid conference on Syria in Brussels.

Justin Trudeau Reading Books Like a Total Nerd Who Reads Books Nerd (Goes to Wonkette)
(more at Wonkette):
Guys, this is probably just going to make you cry and wish you were in Canada, where the healthcare is single-payer, the beer is very good, and the government will soon be distributing free weed to everyone (we may have the details a little fuzzy), but here’s one more thing to make Americans pine for Canadaland: Their prime minister isn’t merely a hunky hunk, he’s also a big ol’ nerd who reads books, and even more than just the one.
We learn this via the Twitter feed of our favorite billionaire, Nick Hanauer, who has this ridiculous notion that if the vast numbers of lower- and middle-income people had a fairer share of the nation’s wealth, that would be far better for America than tilting the economy to favor the one percent — and it would be better for the one percent, too, since if people were less poor, they’d buy more stuff and coincidentally not be in the mood to erect any guillotines. Hanauer tweeted this informative snippet Trudeau posted Monday to the Q & A website Quora, in answer to the question “what are your five favorite books?”
re: #45 Anymouse
In addition to the problems of Assad using chlorine gas against enemies (and allegedly using a WMD like sarin), what happens if he uses them against American troops?
Like it or not, Russia is in Syria at the invitation of the Syrian government; any troops we send could be credibly called an invasion force.
That will be when Trump is found in the oval office in fetal position on the floor sucking his thumb.
Then the call will go to Kushner and Bannon.
I feel for anyone in the armed services right now and their parents, relatives and friends.
re: #119 ObserverArt
Or, it will be the moment when the US calls in a nuclear strike on Syria in response. Trump’s fascination in using nukes knows no bounds, and that’s precisely the kind of thing that he would do if the troops he put into Syria knowing that they’d have no allies and a muddled mission come under attack from Assad or his allies with chemical weapons of any kind - established WMDs like sarin or repurposed chemicals like chlorine.
Only then would it be up to the chain of command to stop Trump’s actions. While I trust our military commanders to follow orders and to understand their obligations to not engage in war crimes, I don’t have any trust in the political leadership to do the same.

I’m not so big on the advertisers fleeing O’Reilly’s show now. They were fine with all the hatred O’Reilly spilled on the airwaves in the past, including getting Dr. Edward Tiller killed with his endless “Tiller the Baby Killer” screeds.
He went after Sandra Bland with thinly-veiled racist screeds. He was obsessed with Sandra Fluke for months.
They didn’t seem to mind financing someone who’s stochastic terrorism led to murder, or denying rights to an African-American woman killed by the police or another woman seeking to protect her reproductive rights, so I am not going to reward them now. With Limbaugh they only got there from a boycott, the Stop Rush campaign.

I think someone mentioned it either here or on Twitter yesterday: sometimes it takes a critical mass of attention for a tipping point to be reached. It has happened much the same way for Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Cosby, and others, who all had deficiencies that were well-known without any real action being taken to deal with their bad behavior — and then the dam breaks.

As I noted, they didn’t care that O’Reilly’s screeds caused a murder.
They care only for profit. So no, I am not going to cheer them for doing “the right thing.”
Doing the right thing would have been to pull advertising when he was spinning up wingnuts to murder, not to save their bottom lines.
The only ethics corporations have is profit. They aren’t pulling adverts because they believe in proper treatment of women, they are pulling adverts only because of protest. If they were ethical, the adverts would have been gone when Dr. Tiller was killed (or before, when it became obvious O’Reilly was trying to get him killed).
There was a tweet yesterday that stated that Trump was going to start a war with DRK to draw attention from the (what I think is ultimately a Russian Money Laundering scheme).

I think a lot of advertisers don’t want to pull ads before the contract runs out. Once that happens they can spin a non-renewal of contract as “we are pulling ads due to the assholery of …”.

It’s difficult to know who is advertising on programs you never watch. And I never watch anything Fox.
I think all advertisers on Fox should be held accountable for supporting a “news” network that shows considerable favoritism to one side of the political isle and by nature the buying public.
Advertising always follows the numbers. It is only when a crisis arises and it gets to be too hot to handle when they decide to pull the plug.
Another thing, a lot of times ad buys are through agents that handle the placements of the ads. I doubt anyone is really all that concerned with the content as they are reaching those big numbers.
I guess everyone still sees a need to sell stuff to idiots. They have money too.
I agree with Anymouse…but the real fix would be a smarter country that wouldn’t accept a Fox news at all so they wouldn’t exist in the first place. That isn’t going to happen any time soon if ever.

I get that corporations aren’t social justice organisations. President Donald Trump reorganized his National Security Council on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, and downgrading the role of his Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Bossert, according to a person familiar with the decision and a regulatory filing.
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster was given responsibility for setting the agenda for meetings of the NSC or the Homeland Security Council, and was authorized to delegate that authority to Bossert, at his discretion, according to the filing.
Under the move, the national intelligence director, Dan Coats, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, are again “regular attendees” of the NSC’s principals committee.

I think you may be onto something here: Bannon’s reassignment does sound (IMO anyway) less like a substantive “demotion” - despite the spin the media will likely put on it - than a sideways move designed to keep him around the WH in a senior-advisory capacity while pushing out of the limelight, and coincidentally adding a (extraordinarily thin) veneer of “professionalism” to an Administration which sorely needs it.*
And donning my sombrero aluminio for a moment, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Steve Bannon had engineered his “demotion” himself.

Trump always, always projects. By accusing Rice of “committing a crime” he’s practically shouting from the rooftops HEY I’M A CRIMINAL!!!!
Bannon is no longer on the NSC. Woo?
1) He had no business being on the NSC in the first place. His very presence undermined national security.
2) The spin/retconning by the Trump nuts is beyond idiotic. They’re now claiming that the only reason he was on there was to keep an eye on Flynn.
3) Bannon is still part of this extremist cabal running things. So too is Kushner (see the part where Kushner showed he’s clueless about China).
The most important thing here is 2. This is an active attempt to spin Bannon as a check on Flynn. It makes no sense. Flynn was picked by Trump and was integral to Trump foreign policy outlook during the campaign and after. Trump said he had the highest confidence in Flynn. Why would anyone need to babysit Flynn.
Moreover, the same reports that claim Bannon was babysitting Flynn also claim that Bannon never attended the NSC meetings. This undercuts the entire argument that Bannon was babysitting Flynn. You can’t oversee anything if you’re not present. So there’s some inconsistencies here as well.
Bottom line?
Trump’s furiously trying to spin separation between him, his cabal, and Flynn. They need this separation knowing that Flynn’s likely to turn on Trump and everyone else to save himself.

You’re right that it’s a “put up or shut up” matter, but in this case it’s “if they have the evidence, they should indict her!” If Trump feels that he’s the evidence to prove Rice guilty of a crime, then he should be demanding his AG to get off his ass and indict her. But he won’t and Sessions won’t because the last thing they want is this shit in a courtroom where the public might get a glimpse behind the curtain. They know that they or their compatriots were caught in very compromising positions with Russian oligarchs and that’s not something they could keep out of the courtroom is they chose to try Rice for “unmasking.” And note they’re not accusing her of “leaking,” but simply “unmasking.” So yeah, this nothingburger is there for no other reason than to keep saying its the only thing that matters.

And again, we see the same behavior we saw all last year: Trump says dumb shit, press reports it without criticism, then later “revises” story to note that Trump was talking out his ass. But by then the public has seen the initial headline enough times that they swallow it without question.

I cannot believe suddenly the media is running around and looking for facts behind Trump statements. Where were they for a year and a half on the campaign trail? Hell, where were they on Trump’s whole career?

This may be one time we won’t be able to say better late than never.

Probably not Syria, since his buddy Vlad would have his ass in a sling if he felt that US intervention threatened Baby Assad’s future.
And North Korea will probably be off the table if/when Xi makes clear that Beijing will intervene if we make a move on Pyongyang.

Why the F do you hire someone and then immediately have to start monitoring them?

Change the conversation to what? Unless we’re talking an invasion and occupation, any attack on North Korea will be like one on Iran: It will only further galvanize those who believe that NK must take extraordinary measures to defense itself. Police departments have faced lawsuits as the result of using Taser products which have led to death or serious injury. I see this as a way for Taser to continue to sell its products with the added ability to have video evidence of usage in case of lawsuits.
So no, this isn’t Taser being nice. This is Taser protecting itself and its market.

Interesting detail from that story:
While the revamp is likely to be seen as a victory for Trump’s second national security adviser, army lieutenant general HR McMaster, the substantive impact of the shakeup remains to be seen. A parallel security structure in the Eisenhower executive office building, known as the Strategic Initiatives Group, reports to Bannon, whose close relationship with Trump suggests continued influence in this administration.

Do you think Trump cares? Do you think Bannon cares? Their whole attitude is knocking things over, burning them down and getting revenge on anybody who crossed them.
Right now, the domestic agenda is in shamble less than 80 days in. They need something to change the news cycle for more than one day…and foreign adventurism is the most obvious means.

: )
The key is understanding the concept not doing the charts. At my school we studied the charts and then had exercises and projects to put the theories to test in a practical art piece and then to get criticized on the understanding of the concept and if we pulled off the theory in the project.
Our Dean of the school taught the course and he was tough. I think that course and anatomy chased half of the freshmen class out of the school after the first semester. Those left standing after the first year pretty much stayed the full four and a half years to complete the program and get their degrees.
