Two technical things, and them I’m off to bed.
1. If you have good programming skills and decent math background, and want to learn about neural nets and machine learning, this website is a great place to start: neuralnetworksanddeeplearning.com.
2. If you want to build your own Google Home Mini or Amazon Echo Dot type assistant, here’s an ebook about it: springer.com. All this information is scattered over the web if you’re inclined to go look for it. I’ve noticed with my Google Home is that there are some gaps between what I ask for and what it can respond with. You could decide to solve the gaps with yours. You might also be able to change the default person from nice to sarcastic.
(Yep, sharing random geek knowledge.)

Ok, one more thing. Talk about regional differences meaning different things with respect to taxes:
The problem for the Connecticut hedge-fund set — and, more broadly, for a lot of the Wall Street crowd — is that Republican proposals in both the House and Senate would drive up taxes for many high-earners in the New York City area. By eliminating the deduction for most state and local taxes, an individual making a yearly salary of $1,000,000 — a figure not uncommon in the financial industry — would owe the Internal Revenue Service an additional $21,000, according to a preliminary analysis by accounting firm Marcum LLP…

Edit: And by way up, I mean buying a legislator or a seat up. I’m not saying that’s poor in NY, but you would definitely get a tax decrease here in Texas.

I’m not sure if I’m watching a rerun, but Haberman was on with Anderson Cooper and now says a third White House aide has said Trump told him or her that the Access Hollywood tape isn’t real, and that he wants to hire people to prove its authenticity or lack thereof.
Charles postulated the other day that Trump is trying to gaslight America. I’m starting to think that Trump is trying to gaslight himself. The demented old bastard is erasing his own negative history in his own head.
A re-post if you don’t mind:
The thing distressing me though ain’t the GOP establishment or really truly Trump in himself though he of course does deserve blame is this rise of sympathy and even support for the Nazis. I mean the CSA crap? Bad enough says this second great grandson of an Army of the Potomac vet but actual Nazi fanboys and girls? I don’t remember my great uncle who was a WWII vet well but i definitely always looked up to the fact that he was a WWII vet. I still remember when I had clue what D-Day even really was being in awe of a classmate’s grandfather who spoke to us about D-Day one year or the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. I played WWII video games. I read Stephen Ambrose. I admired Easy Company and I asked myself if I would have the courage of a Richard Winters or Wild Bill Guarnere. I’m German-American. In fact, my dad’s grandfather was born in Germany and my last name is German. But never ever have I seen myself wondering if the Nazis were the good guys. WWI is a bit more complex in some ways but the Nazis? Nope.

They’re talking about a million a year. That would stretch a far ways here.
This blogger’s conspiracy theory web charts make Sean Hannity and Louie Gohmert look sane by comparison.
The Manufactured Invention of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, and the Birth of Rock-n-Roll by the Tavistock Institute, a Jesuit Corporation (goes to the blog Toward a Better Understanding).
Take hip waders for extremely deep derp.
And of course, behind this “Jesuit organisation” (actually a not-for-profit social science organisation), is Teh Joooos! (more at the link, if you dare)
It was called the “British Invasion” . The 60’s began a time of “question authority”, grow your hair long, hippies and flower power and morphed in with the Anti War gang of “hell no we won’t go!”
All by design, all by planning to mind control and manipulate what the Baby Boomer (Doomer) generation thought, the language and slang used and the behavior control of the masses.
Yes, it is interesting to note that the Tavistock Institute of Human Relation, as well as, it’s child organization: The Stanford Research Institute, developed The Grateful Dead, among other things.
You can see that Alan Trist, a social engineer for the Tavistock Institute, became the shadow manager of the Dead. His father, Eric Trist, was one of the principle founding members of Tavistock. It was part of the development of a dynamic psychological warfare model to be used on foreign and domestic populations, modeled, ultimately, on the Lord Gordon Riots in London and the Jacobin Terror of the French Revolution. The purpose was to mobilize mobs in ideological opposition to the state, as a mass destabilization operation.
Rebellion against society, let your hair grow…turn on, tune out, as millions of tabs of LSD appeared into the hippie scene from CIA laboratories and promotion provided by Harvard CIA asset, Timothy Leary and distribution aided by the likes of the Grateful Dead.

I think that’s probably true. He’s always been an asshole, he’s always been greedy, but he used to be a fluent salesman. When he was shooting the shit with Howard Stern, he was capable of complete sentences. Nowadays, it’s gibberish. He can do a set-piece, a speech that links together, in a slightly different order, whole pages that he’s done so often he can memorize them; even then he goes off the rails sometimes, and if you try to parse his off-the-cuff responses, well, you can’t. You can usually piece together some kind of meaning, but it’s scattershot. And it would not surprise me at all if he has selectively edited his memory already. Very striking eyes but all that matters is she and Harry are happy and I’m sure they’ll have lovely kids if they go that route. Far improvement from his grand uncle marrying a Nazi sympathizer.

It’s a simple philosophy (horrible, but simple). It doesn’t require much thinking, just following along with the leaders of the group.
Nazism in the Thirties was very much a cult, and it is today. They see a strong personality, and the followers attach themselves to that.
The Southern Poverty Law Center took down the National Alliance by exposing the hypocrisy of its leaders to other followers of the movement. These guys today are not nearly as powerful or wealthy as the National Alliance was in the Seventies and Eighties (it is the founder’s racist book which inspired Timothy McVeigh).
Catch the leaders out the way the National Alliance was, and their “movement” gets flushed.

At night the Baby Brotherhood and the Inter City Crew
Fill their pockets up with calling cards
And paint their faces red white and blue

And they salute the foes their fathers fought
By raising their right arms in the air
Oh look out my country’s patriots, they’re hunting down below
What do they know of England who only England know

He wasn’t the only one who thought being POTUS was easy, or that if a guy who identified himself as black could do it, Trump could do it with both hands tied behind his back. For Trump, the reality of the job has to be a check on reality. He and his supporters seem to have thought that being a U.S. POTUS is similar to being king of the world. It’s not. I will not permit my “conservative” Facebook “friends” to forget that they voted for this loser. I suspect they already know he’s a loser but won’t abandon him because: A. He’s their loser, and B. To admit he’s a loser would mean they made a mistake when they voted for him. I’ve stopped posting some info about Trump and the Russia investigation because when the sh*t hits the fan, and I hope it does, I want them to be gobsmacked, demoralized, and disillusioned.

I know you’re into genealogy, so you’ll probably remember a report that was published a few years back that mentioned that #44 is a successor to the British throne via his mom. The Mulungeons of the American Southeast tried to explain away their dark skin, eyes and hair as remnants of Portuguese or Moorish descent. Turns out genetic evidence points to African ancestry. Whoops!
On a somewhat related note, my former FIL, who hailed from Arkansas, also had olive skin and dark hair. I’ve never delved into his family history deep enough to be able to uncover any African connections, but I would not be surprised if I did.

And the debate over Sweden about the pronoun and/or the symbol we use to refer to an abstract concept like God really highlights that.

It is also about not understanding enough about their own history and culture to see how and where certain symbols arose and came to be associated with abstract concepts.
There are plenty of religions that see a female aspect to God, but not our Abrahamic religions that arose in a patriarchal nomadic and early agrarian society.

The original followers of Yahweh in fact tried to eliminate all the goddess-worshipers. You’ll find references to Asherah in the OT, because she was the consort of El *and* Yahweh, and the Yahwists were trying very hard to merge El and Yahweh into one god and eliminate Asherah altogether.
Then Mary came around, and the Christians had a new “goddess” to worship (though they would not put it that way, of course).

I thought that was hilarious. My theory is the longer a white Family has been in this country especially the South and other areas that had large amounts of black people, the more likely one is to have African ancestry and or Native American too. Racial superiority is just so stupid. My genealogical research not only has reenforced my anti-racism, it’s streghened it.

Nope.
I’ve said it before, but I never thought I’d see the day that people started to white knight actual avowed Nazis.
It hits me even moreso after finally playing Wolfenstein: The New Order, and seeing the backlash against its sequel because it was apparently too unfair to Nazis.

I’m just stunned that’s where we are. I’ve visited WWII sites before too including the camps.
So CNN has an “analysis” of tax reform platform and that trumps attention may derail it.
Not the fact that it is a tax relief foe the rich, a burden foe the poor and middle class, and a way for the rich to get richer while pulling the poor down farther into the cavern of despair and poverty.
But the reason it will fail is…trump and his ADD.
CNN, both sides and free publicity.

I think it’s more that Nazis have since been replaced as the ‘other’ that America must stand against, with several degrees of separation, and America is just now remembering that it liked Nazis before they became ‘the enemy’.
I know I am posting A lot this morning. My mind is racing. I am waiting to see my doctor. I am still following up on my stroke and my viral issues from 6 months ago.
I am asking for a second opinion on my blood work because the hematologist I have now I do not trust (she feared I had cancer, so bone marrow biopsy. The blood work she received the day before stated…mononucleosis. That is why I was tired)
Also I am finally getting explanations for a lot of information 6 months aftwr the fact.
I was asked by a cardiologist (one of the things was heart failure, which I just learned because I was told enlarge heart due to infection) what was wrong and I told her: UVM gets a paper in a medical journal, this hospital and UVM gets my money, I am still learning things about what happened while getting no answers and it is stuff that medical knew for a while.
Honestly….I am having a hard time coping with this.

We had glowing pieces about Hitler in the New York Times and American Nazi Party rallies. We had a secret coup against FDR by sympathizers that was barely foiled. The official gov’t position might have been obliquely supportive of the Allies, but we had non-insignificant pockets of Nazi support until we officially went to war and Nationalist sentiment superseded things.
It’s similar to the same lack of reckoning we had with the Civil War and confederate fetishism. It just happened to take longer since it wasn’t a homegrown thing from the start.

Not directly, but Gerald MacGuire, one of the key figures of the coup, clearly sympathized with the fascist movements in Europe and wanted to directly pattern their hypothetical new gov’t after Mussolini’s Italy.

Might be off here, but from what I remember, the coup didn’t think FDR himself was a communist, but that the New Deal would lead to communism, and were hoping to ‘convince’ him of that as fellow members of the financial caste.

Seriously bad shit for both sides if it turns out that O’Keefe was in any way working with the Moore campaign. Just keeping them informed about the ongoing “sting” could lead to IRS agents on their doorstep.
Hopefully it’s the end of both O’Keefe and Moore but I doubt it after O’Keefe’s slap on the old wrist after what he did at Landrieu’s office.

What did calling Senator Warren “Pocahontas” have to do with the Native American Code Talkers who visited the White House yesterday? Trump saw Native Americans and his brain screamed “Pocahontas” because when he sees minorities, his mind automatically goes to slurs and insults.
Nothing. That’s precisely the point too, everything has to cycle back to Trump and his particular grievances. He makes everything about him in the end.

Pocahantas would have been 11 or 12 at the time of her wholly fictitious “romance” with Captain John Smith. Smith, the cartoon version, could therefore be seen as a kind of proto-Republican.
The real Smith did famously claim that Pocahontas saved his life when he was a captive of her father in 1607, when she was 10 or 11. There is a great deal of doubt about this. Among other things, Smith made a very similar claim about a young Turkish girl saving his life while he was a captive in Hungary in about 1602. In both cases he did not represent his savior as anything other than a very young girl.

Wait until the Egyptian government gets wind of what the Washington Post is saying: washingtonpost.com:
Despite Sissi’s repressive rule, under which thousands of suspected Islamists and dissidents have been detained and the space for civil society has been squeezed, Trump remains the Egyptian president’s loudest cheerleader in the West. He has hailed Sissi’s no-nonsense attitude and his recognition that “this ideology of death” — a reference to Islamist extremism — “must be extinguished.”
But it doesn’t seem that Sissi is doing a particularly effective job. His government attempted to cast the Friday attack on the al-Rawda mosque as a sign of the “weakness, despair and collapse” of jihadist forces, which resorted to hitting a soft target rather than Egyptian security forces. But the Egyptian military has been engaged in a grueling and bloody counterinsurgency in northern Sinai for years — particularly since Sissi came to power in a 2013 coup — and both their campaign and the terrorist attacks show no signs of winding down.

The racism and ignorance of the Pocahontas remark go to the heart of Trumpism and modern conservatism, its real motives for trying to dismantle the federal government. The racist base hates the federal government because it enforces the civil rights laws, equal opportunity, fair housing and employment, school integration, etc. They have formed an alliance of convenience with rapacious millionaires who see the feds as the enemy for quite different reasons, OSHA, the EPA, the SEC, and so on.

This is an administration that doesn’t abide by facts, logic, or the rule of law. They just do whatever they want with their personal enrichment the only guiding factor.
Eric doesn’t get that you can be racist for using a word to describe a political opponent and not racist for using that name to identify a historical figure (or historical fiction based on same). Calling someone Pocohantas is racist in the context of what Trump said.
Calling a movie character Pocohantas who is based on the real life person Pocohantas isn’t.
That Eric can’t see or doesn’t care about the distinction once again shows how racist and ignorant Trump spawn are.
Meanwhile, Trump talking about charitable giving today is laughable considering how his charitable foundation was a scam (that can’t fully shut down since it’s under NYS investigation for misappropriating funds - taking funds from 3d parties when it wasn’t legally set up to do so, and Trump used the Foundation as a slush fund for his claims of donating to charity. In other words, other persons funded his foundation, and he claimed that he was donating his own money - he wasn’t).
Oh, and the GOP tax scheme would decimate charitable giving on top of all the other changes to the tax code that would wreak havoc on the middle class.

U.S. Supreme Court rejects challenge to Florida’s open-carry ban
TALLAHASSEE — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to take up a challenge to a Florida law that bars people from openly carrying firearms in public, ending a case that started nearly six years ago when a man was arrested in St. Lucie County.
The U.S. Supreme Court, as is common, did not explain its reasons for declining to hear the case. But the move effectively let stand a Florida Supreme Court ruling in March that said the open-carry ban did not violate the constitutional right to bear arms.

Not a single one of these mouth breathers can actually point to a single instance - one - where the agency was acting in any manner approaching out of control or was a runaway agency.
Not a single instance.
It’s just a religious belief that the govt agency is doing wrong simply by existing, and the GOP answer is to sabotage it until it does - and then reduce funding/eliminate it altogether so that millionaires can get richer and everyone else is stuck with the tab.

I enjoy watching Live PD which follows several different jurisdictions of law enforcement around the country. One episode they got a call stating that a man shot himself in the hand. Once they arrived on scene, they found out the man shot himself with a pistol while watching a youtube video on how to clean your gun. Apparently he skipped the video on how to unload your gun safely.

About that Alabama poll showing Moore in the lead:
A new Change Research survey in Alabama finds Roy Moore (R) has regained his lead over Doug Jones (D) in the U.S. Senate race, 49% to 44%.
“What has changed? The largest difference is turnout: many Republicans who ten days ago said they might not vote, now say they plan to show up on Election Day and vote for Moore.”
They’re not ashamed to vote for him, just ashamed of being seen as voting for him.

You’ve never been to a British wedding have you? :). Okay on a joking note, my cousin married a Brit and his older brother showed up wearing a kilt and my other cousins thought it was a riot.
I’m a Scot, and I can tell you wearing a kilt to a wedding is normal: the modern formal kilt (By “modern”, I mean post-Enlightenment era) has been designed as formal evening wear, and is considered as valiid “black tie” evening wear in Scotland, along with your usual tuxedos.
It’s a very unusual wedding in Scotland where the main male players don’t wear kilts. When I married my partner, we both wore kilts.
It’s also popular amongst sports fans, particularly Rugby Union. Some times when I’m in Glasgow city centre and I see lots of blokes in kilts, I don’t think “Oh, there’s lots of blokes in kilts!”, I think “Oh! The rugby must be on. I wonder who Scotland are playing?”.

Oh, of course. And that’s half the point of passing some of them. The problem is how many voters would stake their vote against the GOP, either by switching their vote or abstaining altogether, because of Moore, or because of those bills passed? We’ve seen how easily they can pass the buck and turn the Dems into the ‘party of sexual predators’ despite Trump and Moore, and how easily they get to claim Dems are the ones making their lives miserable while passing bills that destroy their livelihood, wages, health, etc.?
Despite paeans by Nat’l Repubs, who imagines that the national figure of the GOP base on Moore is appreciably any higher than the 9% of Alabama Repubs who actually take the accusations seriously?

And…….boom.
A Turkish businessman who name has been mentioned in relation to Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to evade US sanctions on Iran, and plans on testifying against his co-defendant.
The guilty plea by Reza Zarrab could have implications for former national security adviser Michael Flynn if his cooperation with federal authorities also involves Mr Mueller’s investigation. Mr Mueller is said to be scrutinising Mr Flynn’s lobbying work in Turkey, while Mr Zarrab’s release was allegedly one of two issues that Turkish officials brought up with Mr Flynn during a meeting last December, when Donald Trump’s team was working on his transition to the White House.
During that meeting, Turkish officials reportedly offered $15 million for the release of Mr Zarrab — who has been held in US custody since March 2016 — alongside the extradition of exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen. Mr Gulen is reportedly living in Pennsylvania
The Turkish government has denied that officials from the country discussed any offers of money for the extradition or release of the men, and said that it has not worked toward their goals in any extra-judicial manner. Mr Flynn’s lawyers have also denied the allegations.
I’ve been noticing that the pro-AKP Turkish media (well, the English language stuff like Daily Sabah) is cranking up the hysteria, saying that Zarrab was coerced into this and that he’s been forced to testify in the case.

By the way, the voice actress and model for Pocahontas in the movie, Irene Bedard is of Inupiat, Yupik, Inuit, Cree and Métis.
