Another Massive Windfall for Palestinians

Middle East • Views: 2,566

For decades, money has been pouring into the coffers of one Palestinian strongman after another, from Arab states and clueless Westerners, and all the Palestinians have to show for it is the ultimate welfare state—a death cult society whose main business is indoctrinating their children to hate and kill.

So naturally, here come the deep pockets people again, pledging more than $14 billion that will go down the same hole of terrorism and hatred.

JERUSALEM, March 6 (Reuters) - Rich states and investors have announced a record $14 billion to aid the Palestinians and their economy in a string of Western-backed meetings meant to boost President Mahmoud Abbas in his power struggle with Hamas.

Another $14 billion. I take it that will not be used for medicine, bread, or water, much less fuel or electricity.

How many rockets does $14 billion buy anyway?

Strange the Reuters article seems to start with a point form critique:

* Unprecedented pledges to Palestinians lack transparency

* Unclear what money is new and when it will arrive

* Some pledges were double counted, diplomats say

Weird?

And while the billions flow into the pakesthugs coffers, this is happening:
A million face starvation as Sudan shuts down

From that report:
'In El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, government officials began the process of seizing millions of pounds in assets belonging to the charities. Men with dark glasses and clipboards arrived at the Oxfam office to begin itemising equipment. They left with laptops, desktop computers and satellite phones, choking off communication. There was a similar scene at the French agency Action Contre La Faim. “We are due to start distributing food to the camps in a fortnight,” one worker said. “Who else is going to do this and stop people starving? Words cannot describe what is happening.”
Charities reported that their bank accounts were being frozen. Doctors with Médicins sans Frontières were trying to contain two deadly outbreaks of meningitis before being expelled. Their clinics have closed. '

I hope you sleep well an night, all of you why cry for Gaza but have no tears or even words for Darfur!

$14 billion in new construction of mosques, new weapons, payments to martyrs, copies of the Koran, new constraints on non-Islamic religions, new constraints on women, and funding for religious police.

How about tunnel building and reinforcement machinery?
How about funding to spread democracy in Gaza?

No need for greenhouse construction. The palestinians have firmly indicated that is not what they want. No need to pay health care costs. Israel already built their hospitals and provides health care.

51 ratherdashing  Fri, Mar 6, 2009 8:42:06am

... yeah but

Mazen Sonnoqrot, former Palestinian economy minister turned businessman, said some of the Arab funds may be withheld until Abbas and Hamas reconcile. It is unclear if that will happen anytime soon because of internal Palestinian divisions and U.S. demands that Hamas recognise Israel and renounce violence.

Arab funds. mmm right. Lots of lip service is given to the Palis. Let's hope it stays that way.

52 DaddyG  Fri, Mar 6, 2009 8:42:20am

This is all part of the No Jihadist Left Behind act. It was clearly posted on page 1,745 section IV paragraph 14 sub paragraph 2 of the Omnibus bill. You had plenty of time to review it and write any objections to your congressperson in the 15 minutes it was available on line prior to the vote. /

As for what the kassams go for, I guess it depends on the cost of sugar and fertilizer - the key components in making the kassams in Gaza.

DEPOSIT $24 BILLION INTO THE EWOK KING HUSSEIN'S PERSONAL NUMBERED BANK ACCOUNT IN SWITZERLAND AND RENAME JORDAN PALESTINE!

Everyone has a price.

I like the idea, but I have a funny feeling the following would happen:

Jordan renamed Palestine; Jordanians become Palestinians.
Gaza and the West Bank now get called Canaan and the former Palestinians suddenly become Canaanites.
Same battle still continues under a new name.

Best would be to get rid of UNWRA altogether and use another organisation.

It's worse than subsidizing. It encourages the violence because the terrorists see that the money is coming regardless of whether they engage in hudna or are actively fighting Israel as they are right now (and have always been). The money may be ostensibly tied to the PA, but it is going to end up in Hamas hands in Gaza - because that's where the money is supposed to be spent. Hamas continues its war, while Fatah plays the bagman. It's a convenient arrangement for them, but it means the war against Israel continues.

This is an ongoing effort by the Palestinian terrorists to engage in the triangle offense - Fatah plays bad cop while Islamic Jihad and Hamas continue the war.

182 realwest  Fri, Mar 6, 2009 9:06:39am

Hey y'all - I think the most important part of the report Charles linked to was this:

But diplomats said many of the pledges made at five donor and investor conferences held since December 2007, including one in Egypt on Monday, were counted more than once, have yet to materialise or were too vague to rely on.

Much of the money depends on Israel fully opening border crossings with Hamas-ruled Gaza, and lifting restrictions in the occupied West Bank where Abbas's Palestinian Authority holds sway, or has been linked to progress in stalled peace talks and Palestinian reconciliation, casting doubt on future payouts.

One senior Western diplomat criticised the pledging process as "smoke and mirrors" because of double-counting. Another said the big-figure headlines from donors eager to look forthcoming, combined with a lack of transparency, were "getting ridiculous", noting that despite the cascade of pledges, the Authority was still struggling to pay full wages to its workers on time.

I'd like to suggest that there be two tests ONLY for the PA to get any money from anywhere: the first is NO MORE ATTACKS ON OR IN ISRAEL. The Second is that at least 75% OF ALL DONATED MONEY MUST BE SPENT ON BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE, PROMOTING AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRIES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTACKING ISRAEL, all as certified - as the money is doled out - by some independent certified accountants - independent as in not the UN, not the Palestinians, and definintely not the Muslim States or other countries which provide the aid. The understanding being that if the money isn't spent as required, the PA would get NO MORE MONEY from anyone outside of "Palestine".

Howdy Wyatt! Nope, Dusty isn't kidding you. Our wonderful leader and his stooge Hillary have come up with this bizarre idea that if Iran (and possibly Syria) are invited to attend, then IF they attend, we'll give 'em another forum to bash us; if they don't attend they'll spend their time bashiing us at the UN.
It's a lose/lose proposition by the wondrous Obama Foreign Policy Team.

re: #176 Wyatt Earp

Are you frakkin' kidding me?

No kidding. US Afghan parley likely to include Iran

Look at some of the names in this article:

The committee heard testimony from two former US national security advisers, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served under Jimmy Carter, and Brent Scowcroft, who worked for George H.W. Bush.

Brzezinski began by stressing actions that US shouldn't take, to avoid prejudicing the negotiations, arguing against ratcheting up sanctions, threatening the use of force, speaking of regime change and setting deadlines for the negotiations, unless the aim was for the talks to break down and for America to be able to blame that breakdown on Iranian intransigence.

Accordingly, he criticized a story in Haaretz this week that said Israel told Clinton to impose a time frame on talks for them to have impact.

"We should be very careful not to become susceptible to interested parties" and their policies on Iran, he warned.

He also took issue with Israel's contention that a nuclear-armed Iran would be an "existential threat," and argued that deterrence in the form of extending America's nuclear umbrella to friends in the Middle East should allay Jerusalem's concerns.

The US, Brzezinski maintained, faced more of an existential threat from the Soviet arsenal when he was in the White House, in the 1970s, than Israel did now, and deterrence proved effective in that case.

Both Brzezinski and Scowcroft agreed that the biggest threat came not from Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon but from the impetus such an acquisition would give to a regional nuclear arms race.

Many pro-Israel figures have assailed Brzezinski and Scowcroft for their views on the Middle East, and the choice to invite the two to testify did not sit well with several activists.

"The choice of Brzezinski and Scowcroft sent up two yellow flags when I heard they were given such prominence," one Jewish leader said of Thursday's hearing. "When Brzezinski used his short opening statement to say Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should be cautious about listening to Israel's ideas, the red flag really went up. After all, Israel knows an awful lot about Iran and what they do that's against the interest of peace."

The 0bamanation administration is going to let Iran get nukes.

Caroline Glick:

The Obama administration has no intention of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power or Syria from maintaining its alliance with the mullahs. The White House seeks far more modest ends.

Through its policies toward Israel on the one hand and Iran and Syria on the other, the Obama administration demonstrates that it has already accepted a nuclear Iran. Its chief concern today is to avoid being blamed when the mushroom clouds appear in the sky. And it may well achieve that aim. After all, how could the administration be blamed for a nuclear Iran when it has wholly devoted its efforts to advancing the righteous cause of peace?

Quite the contrary, all of this aid money helps the terrorists. Even if not one dollar of this money comes into Hamas' control, it will still benefit Hamas by relieving them of the necessity of providing normal gov't services. So long as the UN looks after education, health, water & food distribution, Hamas is free to concentrate on their core competency: terror & jihad.

Sort of like a nanny for the palestinians, so they don't have to bother with everyday problems.

According to wikipedia the population of the west bank plus gasa is about 2,407,000. 14 billion is about $6000 for every man, woman, and child in those terrortories.

CIA World factbook has WB+Gaza pop at almost 4M. Let's assume it is somewhere in betwee, so it averages out to around $4750 per person in the EB and Gaza.

That would rank the WB+Gaza above Brazil, Iran, Thailand, Jordan, China, Indonesia, India and many many more countries in Per Capita "Income" (of course, it's not real income to the Fake-astinians, it's charity).

UN will resume aid shipments to Gaza

The UN says it will resume aid shipments into Gaza after Hamas returned supplies seized several days ago.

Officials from Hamas took thousands of UN blankets, food parcels, and tons of rice and flour.

That prompted the UN to stop its aid trucks into Gaza, fearing Hamas would seize them.

John Ging, Gaza head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, said Monday that Hamas officials returned the aid, prompting the UN to lift its freeze.

She stood alone in the pine barrens, a blaze orange vision of despair.

"I shot a deer," she said. "And my boyfriend doesn't believe me."

Nick exhaled as the story poured out.

"He's at the tavern," she said, gesturing to the cell phone. "He won't come help me."

With respect Ploome, Britain has sent significant numbers of troops and air and naval power to help us out in Iraq and in Afghanistan - and those troops (unlike the Germans for example) are actually fighting and dying to support our efforts in Agfhanistan and Iraq. Indeed, GB has been, except perhaps for Australia, the single most reliable US ally for the last 50 or so years.

The Right in America want a Divorce

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters,

We've stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know that we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and just will not ever agree on what's right. So let's just end it right now while we can do it on friendly terms. We can smile, shake hands, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and each go our own way.

So here's a model separation agreement...

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a portion. That's going to be the difficult part, but I'm sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate taste. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can have those. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. And since you hate guns and you hate war, we'll take the firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. But you are going to be responsible for finding a biodiesel vehicle big enough to haul them around.

We'll keep the capitalism, the greedy corporations, the pharmaceutical companies; we will keep Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have the homeless, the homeboys, the hippies and illegal aliens. We will keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, the greedy CEOS and all of the rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and we'll let you have NBC and Hollywood.

You can be nice to Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer anybody that threatens us. You can have the peaceniks and the war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we will provide them with security. You won't have to worry about it. We will keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley Maclaine. You can also have the UN, but we will no longer pay the bill.

We will keep the SUVs, the pickup trucks and the oversize luxury cars. You can have the compacts, the subcompacts and every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everybody healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We will continue to believe that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. We will keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the national anthem, and I am sure you will be happy to substitute in their place "Imagine." I'd like to teach the world to sing "Kumbaya" or "We are the world." We will practice trickle-down economics and you can give trickle-up poverty your best shot. And since it so offends you, we will keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots. And if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the friendly spirit of parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in about 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J Wall

Law student and an American

Was Zero on TV again? he is the death knell for the Dow.

This may sound stange to everyone out there, but I almost feel lucky that things worked out for me the way they did. Five years ago when I was laid off from the DOE contract that I was working on for 13 years, and then my ex-wife decided to bail, I cashed in my small retirement portfolio so I could get started again, since I walked away from the marriage with nothing.

And I paid off a lot of bills and stuff when I saw things going to hell. Now, I know that the stock market levels still effect me, but probably not as much as a lot of people.

What I am trying to say is, the downsizing I've done, both in liabilities and in employment income, the connections I've made to caring friends and people in the community, all makes me feel less threatened in this current situation.

Maybe all the poop that hit the fan five years ago was a "course correction" that was needed to help me get through these times.

The original Cloward-Piven strategy proposed overloading the welfare system. Obama has taken that idea several steps further. He & the Democrats have already overloaded the world financial system by mandating the sub-prime mortgage program. Activists are working on overloading the immigrations system. Obama's financier, George Soros, was the major funder for the pro-immigrations amnesty rallies. Obama is now seeking to overload the US gov't by pushing through the largest deficit budget in history.

Enter Your slogan for DNC anti-Rush Limbaugh billboard

(ChattahBox) — The Democratic National Committee figures they’ll just keep stirring the Rush Limbaugh pot. They’re asking Democrats to contribute potential slogans for a billboard ad they plan on purchasing in West Palm Beach, Fla., where Limbaugh makes his home.

After filling in your suggested slogan here, the DNC convenintly takes you to a page where you can make a donation (not required though). Of course, if this contest goes viral, they will have lots of new e-mail addresses from individuals they can later solicit. I couldn’t resist and my 10 word or less banner suggestion was: ‘Caution hot air known to blow hard in this area’.

I'm very fortunate to be single with no kids. People with families have much more to worry about.

It's mainly because of our concern for our kids that we have been preparing for these hard times for years. If you are prepared, you shall not fear. And we are part of a larger community that has focused on preparedness, which helps to spread the risk voluntarily.

Example is that we recently ran out of firewood because we had an exceptionally cold winter, and only use a wood stove to heat the house. Three different families offered us as much free wood as we needed. These families all have at least a year's supply of food as well. It is a great comfort.

Just like the woman who wanted to get "Married...With Children" off the air.
Her campaign got people to watch the show, and its ratings went way up.
Before her, it might have gotten canceled due to poor ratings.

Rush should contribute to the billboard campaign.

Years ago, Rocky and Bullwinkle had a story line about a hat which would make you smart. The hat was the "Kerwood Derby". Derwood Kirby threatened to sue. Jay Ward, the producer, said "Go ahead. I'll even pay for the lawyer. The publicity would be worth it." The suit was dropped.

FUCK YOU SUZIE ORMAN! YOU SCARED THE ABSOLUTE SHIT OUT OF MY WIFE THE OTHER DAY WHEN YOU SPECIFICALLY TOLD PEOPLE NOT TO REMODEL THEIR KITCHENS, TO SAVE THEIR MONEY.

THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF AMERICANS WHO'S LIVELIHOODS DEPEND ON PEOPLE WHO REMODEL THEIR KITCHENS.

FUCK YOU SUZIE ORMAN, YOU FUCKING BITCH!

Even Whoopie Goldberg is getting a clue....

GOLDBERG: Well, I’ll tell you, I don’t mind paying taxes because I know I make a lot of dough and you want to give some. Okay? That’s the way it’s supposed to be. That’s the way it’s supposed to be because if you have you want to give. That’s the way, that’s why it’s set up this way. But I am sick and tired of being taxed because I’ve done well for myself. I don’t understand why I am paying the kind- look, look at the phone bill. Let me just read this to you. Federal Universal Service Fund, what the Hell is that? What is it?

In one of the links I put in the spin off links (the one about 35% believing that you can't earn a living without government assistance, Rasmussen made this comment as well:

Rasmussen Reports is testing public reaction to a series of quotes made by newsmakers recently. Yesterday, data was released showing that just 11% of Americans agreed with the statement that “Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican Party. He says jump, and they say how high.” That statement came from Brad Woodhouse, president of the liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change, which is running television ads nationwide criticizing Limbaugh's ties to the GOP.

It's scary, but I remember Durward Kirby, from Candid Camera and some TV commercials.

re: #457 Ward Cleaver

If you have the ability to finance home improvements without taking lines of credit or loans against your home values, it's a good idea, especially if you intend to stay in that home for more than a year or two. If you're using a HELOC or home loan to do the home improvement, you have to check your improvement versus what you expect it will make back.

Putting in a $60k kitchen in a home where home values don't support it makes no sense. A $10k remodel might make more sense. Or $30k. If you're going to get back $25k in increased value.

What do you get for your money? That's a big question. Some home improvements aren't going to give you the same bang for the buck as others (and it varies by region/community). Kitchens and baths are always at the top of the list, but they have to be in the range for the community where you live. It's common sense, but common sense is something that has been missing from real estate for far too long and the new environment is starting to feel what it means to be subject to the basics of economics.

Two 90 year old men, Mike and Joe, have been friends all of their lives.

When it's clear that Joe is dying, Mike visits him every day.

One day Mike says, 'Joe, we both loved rugby all our lives, and we played rugby on Saturdays together for so many years. Please do me one favour, when you get to Heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's rugby there.'

Joe looks up at Mike from his death bed and says: "Mike, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favour for you."

Shortly after that, Joe passes on.

At midnight a couple of nights later, Mike is awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to him, "Mike--Mike."

"Who is it?" Asks Mike sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"

"Mike--it's me, Joe..."

"You're not Joe. Joe just died."

"I'm telling you, it's me, Joe." insists the voice.

"Joe! Where are you?"

"In heaven", replies Joe. "I have some really good news and a little bad news."

"'Tell me the good news first," says Mike.

"The good news," Joe says, is that there's rugby in heaven. Better yet, all of our old friends who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we're all young again. Better still, it's always spring time and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play rugby all we want, and we never get tired."

"'That's fantastic," says Mike. "It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what could possibly be the bad news?'"

"You're in the team for Tuesday."

In light of this, Israel would be fully justified in pursuing a policy of regime change by military force in the Palestinian territories before the Palestinians can cash their aid checks. Hamas is at war with Israel. Giving aid to Palestine aids Hamas. Aid to Hamas is a threat to Israel's national security.

Why does the western world demand that Israel sacrifice their people for the pipe-dream of a two state solution? Israel is willing, but Hamas and the bulk of the Middle East don't want a two state solution. Israel's only options are a prolonged slow war with Hamas or a quick decisive one.

This is strictly an anecdotal observation but I know that the standards at West Point changed some years back. Previously, the commission upon graduation had been Regular Army, which it no longer is if I'm not mistaken.
And I also seem to recall that upon graduation West Pointers were all commissioned in either Combat Arms or Combat Support branches. No longer. And I think that perhaps a different sort is now being attracted to a government paid Ivy league equivalent education, but without the committment that previous generations made to become America's professional Officer Corps.
My source of commssion was ROTC so I am speaking somewhat out of school here but I served with many West Pointers in the Cold War years and held them generally in high regard. At least in as high regard as I had for myself, nyuk, nyuk. :)
This spate of dishonorable conduct troubles me.

I highly recommend the "Headquarters Sessions" box set that came out a few years ago. Tons of outtakes from the tracking dates and more than a few unreleased songs. You can really tell Tork was the musical director for that whole album (the only album they played all their own instruments on -and my favorite of theirs).

I liked this album of Nesmith's. Funky.

No doubt about that. Cloward was Columbia at the same time as BHO. They ran in the same circles. I'm thinking there's more to it than BHO merely reading the material.

Yep - recalling my college days, students from the years above were always passing round 'hot' papers one just had to read - and then there were all the informal seminars and discussion groups which did not form part of the official course, but which one better attended to collect brownie points with teachers and other students.

That was in a science subject - it would be even more so in whatever PB0 said he studied.

"His election represents a new direction in American politics," said Macro Professor Lee Staples. “While it's unrealistic and naive to view him as a savior, he can make a real difference. The economic crisis presents opportunities to move towards progressive tax reform and tougher regulation of financial institutions. The breakdown in the health system opens the doors for fundamental change leading to national health insurance. Global warming, high oil prices, industrial pollution and shrinking resources provide impetus for rejuvenation of the environmental movement and smart growth. Not so strage to me. I was laid off and spent most of my retirement before starting a new career in public service (not the feds). Our whole family has scaled back considerably to fit into my new salary scale and we've become much more self-reliant when it comes to entertainment, food, auto and washing machine repairs (to name a few things). We are also in a modest house given my income which has kept us from being upside down despite some hefty medical bills for one of my children. Having spent the last of my corporate 401K in late 2006 I feel like a financial genius only taking a 10% hit. We're still paying down all of our debt as fast as we can and not expecting anyone to subsidize our unicorn feed.

Exactly. Granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in every home is just silly, IMHO. I just did a minor kitchen remodel a couple of weeks ago. Replaced the sink with a deeper one, replaced the faucet with a high arc faucet, and replaced the countertops from a seventies tacky to a modern laminate (with a very nice rounded edge). Did a heck of a lot to improve the kitchen at low cost. Been replacing the appliances as I get to them. New dishwasher and range, and will install a microwave range hood shortly (all white, mid-range appliances).

That'll do more for livability and saleability than any major remodel.

Purchased my last two major appliances for 1/3-1/2 price because some picky customer noticed a little dent in the finish before they installed it in her home. The best part is when they come pre-dented I'm not uptight about the kids playing in the kitchen. Heh!

Project Vote

Project Vote (or Voting for America, Inc.[1]) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. It was founded in 1982 by Sandy Newman and its current executive director is Michael Slater, who has worked for Project Vote since 2004.[2][3][4] Project Vote's efforts to engage low income and minority voters in the civic process include the provision of training, management, evaluation and technical services.[5]

One of Project Vote's most successful voter registration drives was directed by Barack Obama in Chicago during 1992.

Project Vote: Extended Profile

The stated purpose of Project Vote is to work within the system, using conventional voter-mobilization drives and litigation to secure the rights of minority and low-income voters under the U.S. Constitution. However, Project Vote’s actions suggest that its true agenda is more radical. Its activities appear to be aimed at overwhelming, paralyzing and discrediting the voting system through fraud, protests, propaganda and vexatious litigation.

In this respect, Project Vote appears to be following the so-called “crisis strategy” or Cloward-Piven Strategy pioneered during the Sixties by Columbia University political scientists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven.

Interesting: the voter fraud incidents we saw in the last election were not isolated incidents in which over-zealous ACORN staff got caught, but a conscious program to intentionally delegitimize the American electoral process.

re: #600 eclectic infidel

Jonathan Schanzer in the text, "HAMAS vs Fatah" (2008), spells it out very clearly. He argues that there is no real difference between Fatah and HAMAS. Fatah claims to be a secular, nationalist political party, yet all too frequently engages in precisely the same sort of violent activities as their fundamentalist, religious counterparts called HAMAS. Schanzer writes: "Combined with xenophobia, chauvinism, and/or irredentism, nationalism can become as dangerous any any other radical ideology" (p 7). Both HAMAS and Fatah seek the destruction of the State of Israel. Schanzer goes on to state: "Real reform will be possible only with the rise of new parties and new leaders who eschew the violent tactics, strategies, and ideologies of the factions that represent most Palestinians today: Hamas and Fatah. In other words, only by rejecting the platforms of both parties will the Palestinian people begin to break the self-destructive cycle described in the pages that follow" (p11). And, it should be clear to world leaders by now, that providing monies to Fatah is not the way to "reform" their violent culture.
