Colorado GOP Chairman Bails: ‘Tired of the Nuts’

What Tea Party loons?
Politics • Views: 29,917

The chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, Dick Wadhams, announced Monday that he’s dropping his bid for re-election because he’s “tired of the nuts who have no grasp.”

Wadhams said he had the votes to land a third term but in the past few days got to thinking, “What happens after I win?”

“I have loved being chairman, but I’m tired of the nuts who have no grasp of what the state party’s role is,” he said. …

“I have tired of those who are obsessed with seeing conspiracies around every corner and who have terribly misguided notions of what the role of the state party is while saying ‘uniting conservatives’ is all that is needed to win competitive races across the state,” Wadhams wrote.

Tea Party!

Good for him for saying what doubtlessly needed to be said.... now of course we can sit back and watch Fox try to tear this man into pieces....

Although he could apply for national status.

re: #15 ggt

Yea, but he ain't doing that.

Democratic political strategist Laura Chapin said Wadhams fell victim to deep splits within his party that make it tough for a moderate to win a primary. The conservative then has to win the general election in a state where one-third of the electorate is unaffiliated.

What is a pity shame in this country is that you have to have money to win. And if it's not your money (most people don't have that kind of money), you have to somehow borrow it, which is tough or have people contribute. I gather the contributing part is what he thinks he can't get. So in that sense, I don't blame him. I mean, he can take a chance, but then he can wind up in the hole for quite a bit and most likely lose.

Here is some of the E-mail I got today from "National"

...Currently as of mid February the Whigs should have 38 active state chapters across the nation. Still we need to keep working on the other 12 states that have membership but no active state chapters. Just in the last two months we have added six new state chapters and are looking to add another two this month. If you are a member and there is no active state chapter and are interested in helping to start one up, please contact Andrew Evans at website or your regional coordinator.

The Whigs are currently looking at three candidates for 2011 and 2012. They range from city council, state house, and U.S. Congress.

The National Associations are completedwebsite and almost ready to be added to the national site. Please check out the associations and if you think you are qualified to be a moderator please contact Will Ritter at website. Once we get enough moderators to help out Will Ritter to run the forum we will launch the National Associations. Please pay attention to the video clips on the forum explaining everything about them and how to use them. These associations are how you can help participate in expanding Whig thinking, and Whig solutions to the issues America faces.

The MWP is also currently working on new chapters in Ohio and Delaware as well. With the addition of the Delaware and Ohio chapters this will give the MWP 37 active state chapters out of 50 states.

I've read coverage recently that the blue dog caucus is rather angry at being shut out by their own party so much so that htey are considering supporting the Repubs' budget cutting process. I strongly suspect that is the reason for the moderation of the amount of cuts proposed by Ryan.

The same moderation that won't even allow so called blue dog/conservative leaning dems to work within their caucus? Doesn't seem very moderate to me. I've read coverage recently that the blue dog caucus is rather angry at being shut out by their own party so much so that htey are considering supporting the Repubs' budget cutting process. I strongly suspect that is the reason for the moderation of the amount of cuts proposed by Ryan.

Let me see the news story you are talking about I haven't heard any of what you're talking about (not saying its impossible just saying I haven't heard of it)

Ahem. The character in Philly aside but...

Malik Zulu Shabazz
National Chairman of the New Black Panther Party

Controversy

Shabazz first came to widespread public attention in 1994, when Unity Nation, a student group he founded at Howard University, invited Khalid Abdul Muhammad, chairman of the New Black Panther Party, to speak. Introducing the speaker, Shabazz engaged in a call and response with the audience:

"Who is it that caught and killed Nat Turner?"
"The Jews!"
"Who is it that controls the Federal Reserve?"
"The Jews!"
"Who is it that has our entertainers... and our athletes in a vise grip?"
"The Jews!"

A year later, Shabazz told an interviewer that everything he said was true, with the possible exception of the assertion concerning Nat Turner.

The Anti-Defamation League describes Shabazz as "anti-Semitic and racist".

They were also refused entry into Canada.

As for how much influence they have, not much, but any is too much.

But I was talking about the effort to smear the Obama administration with the charge that they didn't pursue prosecution - that's what I didn't jump onboard with, because it was full of shit.

They are creepy but they aren't just as scary as the original ones and they haven't gained a legitimacy and their numbers are not way up.

Well actually two, and I am pretty serious. It's important for me to gauge where people are.

1. Is it possible to add heat to a system and as a direct result have something else in that system get colder?

2. Do you know from your every day life an example of this?

The Blue Dog openness to the GOP comes amid strained relations with Pelosi. On Monday, Blue Dog leader Rep. Heath Shuler (N.C.), who challenged Pelosi for the job of Democratic leader in the 112th Congress, said the coalition has been shut out by the leader’s office.

“There has really been no communication whatsoever,” Shuler told MSNBC. “We still do not have any connection between the Blue Dogs and leadership.”

BBC & NYT Egypt news summaries for the day:

[Link: www.bbc.co.uk...]

...
Mr Gibbs said: "The government has not taken the necessary steps that the people of Egypt need to see. That's why more and more people come out to register their grievances.

"If there's some notion on the government side that you can put the genie back in this bottle, I think that's gone a long time ago."

He added that the US was reviewing its aid programme to Egypt, and the government's restraint and reform would determine "what that aid will look like".

His remarks follow Tuesday's call by US Vice-President Joe Biden for the Egyptian government to lift its longstanding state of emergency, and to stop harassing journalists and activists.
...
Late on Tuesday night, Vice President Omar Suleiman said the crisis must end, adding: "We don't want to deal with Egyptian society with police tools."

He warned that if dialogue with the protesters failed, the alternative was "that a coup happens, which would mean uncalculated and hasty steps, including lots of irrationalities".

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

...
The country’s foreign minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, dismissed calls by Egyptian protesters and the Vice President Joe Biden to scrap the country’s emergency laws, which allow the authorities to detain people without charge.

“We have 17,000 prisoners loose in the streets out of jails that have been destroyed,” Mr. Aboul Gheit said. “How can you ask me to sort of disband that emergency law while I’m in that difficulty?”

Saw a good article about GW in a national geographic on global warming, breaks it down very simply

The Carbon Bathtub

It’s simple, really: As long as we pour CO2; into the atmosphere faster than nature drains it out, the planet warms. And that extra carbon takes a long time to drain out of the tub.

A fundamental human flaw, says John Sterman, impedes action on global warming. Sterman is not talking about greed, selfishness, or some other vice. He’s talking about a cognitive limitation, “an important and pervasive problem in human reasoning” that he has documented by testing graduate students at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Sterman teaches system dynamics, and he says his students, though very bright and schooled in calculus, lack an intuitive grasp of a simple, crucial system: a bathtub.

In particular, a tub with the tap running and the drain open. The water level can stand for many quantities in the modern world. The level of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere is one. A person’s waistline or credit card debt—both of which have also become spreading problems of late—are two more. In all three cases, the level in the tub falls only when the drain runs faster than the tap—when you burn more calories than you eat, for instance, or pay off old charges faster than you incur new ones.

I suppose you could take it that way, but they do seem to feel shut out of the process within the caucus. Do you think all the Dems in the south bolting their party to join the Repubs mean that the Repubs in the south are more moderate? Is Sarah Palin's support of allowing gay Repub groups participate in CPAC a sign of social moderation even among one of the fringier players of the party? How about Krauthammer, Lowry, and Kristol slapping down Beck recently? If there are signs of dissent on the right over the fringiness, I think that's a good sign.

Since we know from everyday life that things like refrigerators and air conditioning take energy to pump heat, do you think it is possible that energy from the sun could shift currents in such a way that certain areas of the Earth get unseasonably colder or wetter?

Ahhh.. Yes. The heating of the gulf slows the gulf stream which brings heat to western europe. Therefore western europe will get colder as the gulf gets hotter.

re: #162 recusancy

Cold isn't a thing. Cold is just a place that has relatively less heat energy then another place. And energy cannot be created or destroyed.

Great comment! That is why we talk about heat pumps and heat engines. Heat is absolutely a form of energy.

I will not disagree with you over the fact that some people within the right standing up to Beck even it is nearly always wrong Kristol.

However... I fail to see what you mean by "all the Dems in the south bolting to join the Repubs" once again more links please?

Also, I fail to see how you can argue the fact that some in the GOP are up for at least letting gays speak, this is a sign of a real and genuine moderation within the GOP.

In regards to your first story... honestly this is cause and effect that we can argue over forever, did they change because the GOP is more moderate over all, or because their base in the south is becoming more radical and conservative and thus they feel they have no chance to win as Democrats?

I don't know, and I don't honestly think that you can say you know for sure either, do you?

Obama only opposes Marriage but is a supporter of strong civil unions.

Meanwhile

"In October, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled the state couldn't deny spousal benefits to the same-sex partners of public employees. That means that while Alaska has banned gay marriage, it can't withhold, say, health insurance from a state employee's gay partner.

... Elected officials can't defy the court when it comes to how rights are applied, she said, but she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples.

"I believe that honoring the family structure is that important," Palin said. She said she doesn't know if people choose to be gay. "

Unless Sarah has walked that back, she obviously opposes civil unions...

And here is where Obama stands for comparison...

"At a televised forum focusing on gay rights, the Illinois senator was asked to explain how civil unions for same-sex couples could be the equivalent of marriage. He said, "As I've proposed it, it wouldn't be a lesser thing, from my perspective.

"Semantics may be important to some. From my perspective, what I'm interested (in) is making sure that those legal rights are available to people," he said.

"If we have a situation in which civil unions are fully enforced, are widely recognized, people have civil rights under the law, then my sense is that's enormous progress," the Illinois Democrat said.

Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ, which supports gay marriage, but Obama has yet to go that far."

I thought we were talking about elected Democrats and that's not evidence of rank and file democratic voters jumping ship. Do you have any evidence that moderate Republicans are not feeling warm and fuzzy about the radical anti-abortion bills the GOP is trying to pass all over the country? If you want to have a debate about a lack of moderation, I don't think you'd win. The magical balance fairy is not dancing to this tune. The Democrats have and have had way more ideological diversity than the GOP for quite sometime. Last time I checked, there is no Blue Dog equivalent on the right. Well, yes, some folk are no doubt stumped by the definition of "precipitation".

I just think it is really hard to convince people of something that doesn't directly correspond to what one of their 5 senses are telling them at the time. I know so, I've tried.

That's why I had this little exercise with the refrigeration question just now.

Better. I got my first sale of my current event today, and I've only been pitching it a week. So far, so good.

Grats!

re: #242 moderatelyradicalliberal

I thought we were talking about elected Democrats and that's not evidence of rank and file democratic voters jumping ship. Do you have any evidence that moderate Republicans are not feeling warm and fuzzy about the radical anti-abortion bills the GOP is trying to pass all over the country? If you want to have a debate about a lack of moderation, I don't think you'd win. The magical balance fairy is not dancing to this tune. The Democrats have and have had way more ideological diversity than the GOP for quite sometime. Last time I checked, there is no Blue Dog equivalent on the right. And virtually every GOP contender for President is bowing to the TPers and the SoCons.

Explain then why there is the largest contingency in modern history of Repubs in state office, the governorship, and large majorities in both houses of state government in a formerly progressive state like Wisconsin. I was asked about the midwest, and used my own state as an example. And it wasn't just any state level that was trashed and removed from his post for daring to vote with his constituents--it was the friggen leader of the party in the state house.

Send them AWAY, anywhere, just make it up.

I suppose. It is sad that all Brittany and all Jacko (or whoever becomes the next celebri-disaster) all the time is what passes for news.

That is what sells.

I see it as the soma tablet of the modern world.

re: #233 BryanS

That is a big difference. It is a good sign still to see some Repubs walk back the hate some, even if they oppose even civil unions. But I think attitudes on that are (very slowly) changing as well.

Or course they are changing... I'm just saying that they're going to need to change a lot more before I think about voting GOP...

I'll expect tomorrow to hear they changed it to something else.

Let's see 10% unemployment, a very effective right wing noise machine and lack of enthusiasm from Democratic voters in comparison to GOP voters. There have been studies done showing that the voters in the last midterm election were older, whiter and more conservative than normal. In other words not traditional Democratic voters to begin with. But I didn't know we were talking about the midterms or whether or not the GOP can be electorally successful. I thought we were talking about whether or not one party is more hostile to moderates than another. I have seen no evidence that the GOP is moderating. All evidence in fact points to the contrary. And if they keep it up, purple states like yours will make correction back towards moderation in the the next couple of elections. If you think the Democrats not being moderate enough is why they lost in the midterms that's fine, but I'm willing to bet money that if unemployment was at 7% as opposed to 9.5% on Nov 2, 2010 things wouldn't have been nearly as bad. And if the GOP keeps focusing on abortion restrictions and not jobs they will pay a price for it. Assuming moderation is what drives elections, that is.

I remain mystified that someone whose first name is Richard and whose last name begins with "Wad" would go by "Dick" instead of Richard, Rich, Richie, or Rick.

re: #206 moderatelyradicalliberal

I live in the South and that sounds like a bunch of unprincipled people switching sides to stay in office. Not because Democrats are being mean to them.

And let's face it, the South has never been a progressive segment of the country. It's been dragged kicking and screaming into every major social and economic change over the last 150 years.

When Democrats start jumping ship in the Northeast, West, Midwest and Southwest, I will get alarmed.

Just what I was thinking - political whores who should pay back the people who donated to their campaigns.
