Michele Bachmann (R-Mars) Stands by Her Fanatical Right Wing ‘Pledge’

The Tea Party’s candidate reaffirms how crazy she is
Wingnuts • Views: 30,105

Michele Bachmann is apparently going to stand by the fanatical religious right “pledge” she signed, which commits her to banning pornography and fighting “stealth sharia,” states that she believes homosexuality is a choice, and states that black kids were better off under slavery: Bachmann Stands By Marriage Pledge That Links Slavery to Black Family Values.

No surprise here. She’s not going to back down from this craziness — it’s what the Tea Party base demands.

Note that the Fox News article linked above focuses on the slavery part, but the entire pledge is batshit insane.

In Palin's case it would be The Articles of Refudiation.

One other thing that bears repeating that I mentioned on the thread about her signing the pledge.

This "Declaration of Dependence" is not to the institution of the family, but to the "FAMiLY" organization itself - it says so right in the footnote attached to the pledge title.
This document, as written is not about dedicating oneself to so-called "family values", but of giving political power to Bob Vander Plaats and his "The FAMiLY Leader" organization.

federalist paper #63:

[a] well-constructed senate [would be] sometimes necessary as a defence to the people against their own temporary errors and delusions, [because] there are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be the most ready to lament and condemn

call it then: "the artful misrepresentations of interested men"

but the entire pledge is batshit insane

prominent on the first page are a set of bullet points that are presented as "evidence" of the necessity of the pledge

the first two of them are specifically about black folk, basically asserting that their families are just getting more and more screwed up

the last one is an unfocussed rant against divorce, infidelity, and gay people, concluding with:

...anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.

see? somebody is being told that people in favor of gay rights and sex before marriage are asserting that it "optimizes individual or public health"

Most of the GOP candidates are not even remotely credible. They will hitch their wagons to the Tea Party for as long as they believe that affiliation will deliver votes. The Tea Party itself has been taken over by nut jobs, religious whackos and other assorted dysfunctionals.

As the Tea Party fades into well deserved oblivion (and they are already losing influence), the GOP will find a new crop of candidates to replace the current decomposing and rotting leadership. If they don't, they will keep on losing elections.

Given the state of the party today, that's OK with this right of center ideologue.

Besides, I like Obama. I don't agree with everything he's done- far from it- but nobody bats 1000. Not even him. Overall though, He's come through where it counts most, national security.

There was a time you needed armies to bring havoc to a nation. Today, all you need is a nut job with access to a bathtub, a wooden spoon and some chemicals. So far, so good.

The economy is in tank. Some of it is his fault some of it isn't. From where I sit, Obama has been given some really bad advice. The guy is smart- very smart. If he's making bad decisions, I'm more likely to blame his advisers at this point. He is starting to come around, though. He's on the Clinton Plan- no more lipstick on the pigs.

In any event, I'd worry a whole lot more if he lost the next election.

Top comment from the first link:

You can tell when men like Michelle Bachmann's anti-gay crusader husband have same-sex attraction when they say that homosexuality is a "choice," or a "behavior." Basically, that shows that they think same sex attractions are something that all males have. They get turned on by men, therefore they assume all other men do as well. When they use words like "temptation," you know they're projecting.

Could be something to that. Since they find themselves able to choose not to act on their homosexual urges, they assume everyone can. Then they assume those urges are part of being human, rather than part of being gay.

Not saying it's true about Mr. Bachmann, but it does fit in the mold of what we've found out about the virulently anti-gay conservative types of recent history (that turned out to be keeping their own same-sex boot-knocking on the down low, while lying to their families and to the public).

Taking Fight Back to Wichita, Doctor Seeks Abortion Clinic

Two years have passed since this city, for decades the volatile epicenter of the national fight over abortion, was shaken by the murder of Dr. George R. Tiller — a controversial figure because of his willingness to perform later-term abortions — by a man who said he wanted to stop the killing of babies.

Since then, abortion rights advocates have hoped that someone would take Dr. Tiller’s place to show that violence is not an effective way to stop abortions. Despite their vows to redouble their commitment, the murder of Dr. Tiller actually scared people away. Opponents, even those who criticized the killing, have noted with some satisfaction that no abortions have been provided here since.

Now a little-known physician has stepped into this tinderbox environment to take the mantle — indeed, the very instruments — of the man many abortion rights advocates regard as a martyr.

I agree that one's voice alone isn't a telltale for whether someone's a bit light in the loafers, but take their voice and combine it with their body language, mannerisms, and vocabulary. If you have finely-tuned gaydar, it can make the difference whether it goes cold or goes off like the 4th of July; sometimes, gut feelings can serve people well on getting a good read on others.

re: #65 engineer dog

That's a double edged sword, of course.

I tend to view the media issues with more jaundiced eyes.

I have said before I take no issue whatsoever with FOX giving the president a hard time. Every media outlet has an ideological bend and they are free to exercise that right. In fact, I like the idea of media constantly challenging authority, right or left. That has served us well for over 200 years.

That said, my issue with FOX is more substantive. They may opine, but they have no right to lie or deliberately misrepresent what the President or anyone in his administration says for political gain. The same applies to all media outlets. If you lie, expect to be called out on it no matter where on the political spectrum your editorial stance rests.

They are free to opine about Obama as much as they want. The same applies to media which criticizes the GOP leadership on substantive matters.

Mine either...I was just saying that it wouldn't surprise me that Dr. Bachmann was/is keeping it on the down low, given what we've found out about other anti-gay conservatives in recent history. He might sound a little foppish, but nothing too overt from that YT clip, IMO.

I would call every item of the pledge insane. Some are sensible, but they clash with the nutty ones. An example:

"Official fidelity to the U.S. Constitution, supporting the elevation of none but faithful constitutionalists as judges or justices." This is entirely sane and well within normal political bounds. You can disagree with it, but you can't call it crazy.

"Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy – our next generation of American children – from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence." This one is far more problematic. You can't as a practical matter criminalize "seduction into promiscuity" or for that matter pornography production. To do either would be a 1st Amendment violation, which would contradict the point above. Thus the pledge is internally inconsistent.

"Support for the enactment of safeguards for all married and unmarried U.S. Military and National Guard personnel, especially our combat troops, from inappropriate same-gender or opposite-gender sexual harassment, adultery or intrusively intimate commingling among attracteds (restrooms, showers, barracks, tents, etc.); plus prompt termination of military policymakers who would expose American wives and daughters to rape or sexual harassment, torture, enslavement or sexual leveraging by the enemy in forward combat roles." Rules for the first part already exist, and the latter part would remove woman from roles they are already performing. To weaken our transport or aviation units while fighting a war as a matter of social policy is indeed insane.

Gary Johnson says he shouldn't have voted for Chuck Baldwin and the Constitution Party in '08:

The Republican Party cannot afford to have a Presidential candidate who condones intolerance, bigotry and the denial of liberty to the citizens of this country. If we nominate such a candidate, we will never capture the White House in 2012. If candidates who sign this pledge somehow think they are scoring some points with some core constituency of the Republican Party, they are doing so at the peril of writing off the vast majority of Americans who want no part of this ‘pledge’ and its offensive language.

Or at least that's what he should have said about '08. Instead he's pretending it didn't happen, and contradicting himself.

Is this a test or a pledge? After reading the “Pledge”, it appears to be a litmus test or score card of a candidates beliefs in order to receive endorsement of the family league. Seems to be in conflict with Clause 3, Article VI of the Constitution:

Article VI

Clause 3: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States. (emphasis added)

I’m positive that if G*D were to grant a miracle and this bunch of religious bigots were ever elected to a majority, this section of the Constitution would be trashed very quickly.

Only a few things matter:

1.) Do you have food & something to drink? Check.

2.) If I love you will you love me back? Check.

Will you always let me sleep on your bed and open the window early every morning so I can watch the birds, the kids, etc? Check.

Yep. There are still counties here in Texas that are completely dry. Most of them are a combination of wet and dry, with parts of them not allowing alcohol and others permitting it:

No offense to the Texans here, but I found the history of one of the dry counties to be, well, fitting for a state with a Board of Education like Texas has...

Collingsworth County is named for James Collinsworth, the first chief justice of the Republic of Texas, whose name was misspelled in the legislation that established the county.

Top comment from the first link:

Could be something to that. Since they find themselves able to choose not to act on their homosexual urges, they assume everyone can. Then they assume those urges are part of being human, rather than part of being gay.

If they can resist those temptations, then they're probably bi, not gay.

A lot of bi people assume that everyone / nearly everyone is bi - it really wouldn't surprise me to discover that this was true for bi conservatives as well as bi liberals.

In spite of the number of bi people being between twice and four times the number of gay men and lesbians combined, we don't get anything like the public notice. Ah well.

but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States. (emphasis added)

Is it possible to achieve the office without passing that test? Yes.

Then it's not a Qualification.

I live in England; we used to have religious tests for office - look up Charles Bradlaugh. That's what that clause relates to, not people privately choosing to cast their vote on the basis of a candidate's religion.

Even TJ didn't cite that clause when he was being accused of being an atheist in the 1796 and 1800 elections.
