Funny Clip of the Day: Ben Carson to CNN Anchor: “You’ve Probably Been Charged” With a Crime

“It doesn’t mean you’re an evil, horrible person”
Humor • Views: 56,677

YouTube

This video clip via TPM is pretty hilarious; watch the look CNN anchors John Berman and Kate Balduan give each other when Ben “Dr. Sleepy” Carson says Berman has “probably been charged” with a crime, after Berman asks him about Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s arrest for battery.

It’s reassuring in an odd way to know Carson hasn’t had a sudden outbreak of sanity.

Seriously, the Administration’s “most qualified” statement today was not at all subtle hint about who Obama thinks is the best candidate to succeed him.

Yeah. It’s very rare for a sitting president to endorse his successor in a primary. I don’t think Reagan endorsed H.W Bush against Dole and the others in ‘88 and I don’t recall Clinton doing that for Gore against Bradley.

And yet Bernie will continue to claim that Clinton opposing him in the 2008 primary is no different from Bernie suggesting that someone primary Obama in 2012.

For months now, wingnuts have been convinced that the President attempting to kneecap her campaign because he wanted somebody else. Remember all the breathless speculation about how he really wanted Warren to run, then he really wanted Biden to run, because he saw them as his worthy successor? Hell, the New York Post insisted this time last year that Valerie Jarrett was the source of the “leak” about “Emailgate,” either working under the President’s orders or her own initiative, in order to hamper Hillary in favor of a more progressive candidate.

Endorsing before Clinton has the delegate race tied up was, and probably remains, very much in doubt. Mostly because everyone in the Party is leery of giving Sanders any motivation to do any more real damage to the Party.

Yesterday’s bullshit showed however did a lot to clarify that the problem isn’t limited to his more fanatical fans, the problem is him. Either through laziness, piss poor reading comprehension or plain dishonesty Bernie just handed the Republicans prime footage for an attack ad that they’re absolutely guaranteed to flood the airwaves with this Fall.

The thing is I don’t really give a shit what his motivation was at this point. There’s absolutely no good excuse for what he did, whether he was genuinely angry because he believed she’d said something she hadn’t, or if he was just being a cynical asshole and deliberately lied planning to later blame a deceptive media headline for his lie. It all boils down to he was too stupid and/or lazy to actually find and verify the quote before going scorched earth, or he knew exactly what he was doing and didn’t care.

So now Tad Devine is saying Hillary said Bernie is not qualified because she did not answer Joe Scarborough by saying Bernie IS qualified.

He also glossed over the fact that Bernie did say she IS NOT qualified.

It is really on now.

I have to admit confusion to why the rules allow Bernie to run as a Democrat anyhow even though he’s not a Democrat. In any case, it’s that tidbit that makes it hilarious hearing about how awful the DNC is to Bernie. Frankly, I don’t think the DNC owes Bernie anything. If anything, they could have refused him the right to run and ran ads against him on Clinton’s behalf.

If the choices are, as outlined by Dr. Carson, either to demonize someone or to sit down with them and have an intelligent conversation, I’m afraid we are left with ‘demonize’ for Dr. Carson.

You just reminded me of when I decided Bernie was full o’crap. It was when he made his I’M not the one who ran against Obama in 2008 comment when called out for suggesting somebody should primary Obama in 2012. That was so ridiculous—particularly because Hillary declared BEFORE Obama for 2008, so it wasn’t just snarky, it was total bullshit.

I think the problem is it’s easily soundbited into something it wasn’t.

Reading a more extended version, but not the whole transcript, I can’t help but think that if Bill Clinton were proposing breaking up the big banks, he’d have had a lot more detailed an answer than Bernie’s handwaving.

I also see such similarity between Hillary and Bill - the depth of knowledge, the well-reasoned answers, the unreasoning hatred they elicit from some people….

ETA: I remember how great it was in 2009 to once again have a President who speaks in paragraphs and can put together a well-reasoned argument, not just “Yer either with us er yer with thuh Terr’ists!”

Searched for a statement from Ted Cruz about whether he accepts evolutionary science; but he’s managed to totally avoid this issue.

Wouldn’t be prudent to alienate any of his supporters. Republicans have to dance around the question, because some of them understand science, and a lot of them are caught up in extremist religion, and they need to keep their voters happy.

Her analogy is that bad sex doesn’t make people give up sex, but this logic apparently doesn’t apply to gin for most people.

Don’t get them with glass doors. If you get the racks that use cage nut inserts, be sure to get the tool for those lest you destroy your hands.

Two-post relay racks are good for network switches and patch panels, but not for heavy servers. We use a wall-mount swing rack for the network stuff at my work.

Plan to put the heavy crap in the bottom, like UPS units. You can get 19-inch rolling carts.

You can prolly find data center grade racks used at your local electronics recycler. Large scale users often just roll end of life servers and racks off the floor and onto the truck.

It’s brandy for me.

In terms of per capita consumption in the brandy-and-cognac category, only the District of Columbia tops Wisconsin, according to the 2012 Liquor Handbook, a trade publication.

Wisconsin has the highest percentage of retail spending on brandy in the United States, according to a spokeswoman for E.&J. Gallo Winery, which produces E&J Brandy.

In 2012, California-based Korbel shipped about 324,000 nine-liter cases of brandy. Of those, about 141,000 - 43.5% of Korbel’s production - went to Wisconsin.

Dude, there is nothing at all wrong with gin.

(I finally got to Whitechapel for the first time this past weekend and I was in heaven. HEAVEN.)

Quick suggestion if you are in England.

1. Find a decent off-licence (liquor store) (I know the lingo, me old cock-sparrar)
2. Buy a bottle of Plymouth Gin, Naval Strength
3. Buy a few limes
4. Mix with cool, not iced water
5. Drink
6. Repeat as necessary

I spent some time down in the South West in the early 90s!!

Second suggestion… Try Sloe Gin

Mmmm, sloe gin. Sipsmith has an amazing one which I haven’t been able to find a bottle of yet. The bartender gave me a sample of another amazing one on Saturday. I have a picture of the bottle on my phone. That one is apparently very hard to get ahold of, but I’m game to try.

So today Bernie is bitching about this CNN report.

••BREAKING•• Clinton Campaign LEAK - Plan to Bury Bernie, “DISQUALIFY HIM” - Running out of Patience

My question is did CNN call it ‘DISQUALIFY HIM - DEFEAT HIM’ or did CNN make that up just like WaPo cooked up a headline?

Anyone know? I have a hard time believing that Clinton’s campaign would blurt that out.

And Jeff Weaver is now saying Clinton made a deal with the devil (the PACs and Wall Street) and the devil will get his due.

This is all going down on Chris Hayes All In. Ed Rendell just pointed out that Obama took more money from PACs and Wall Street than Hillary has and he was a pretty good president. That may be true Ed…but Bernie isn’t all that impressed with Obama is he?

Damn this is getting messy.

But that’s not really true.

That’s the bitter point I try to avoid. “Those shoes could pay for a year’s worth of my kid’s clarinet lessons” not only is a privileged statement, but in the back of my mind I’m also thinking “and the dress could buy that Les Paul I want.”

But the truth is that I have a decent job and the clarinet lessons and other son’s soccer mean that my wife darns my jeans and we don’t eat out much or go on vacation each year.

I’d have no trouble seeing the Navy oversee civilian nuke power, just as the CoE runs the waterways. TVA could be a model. It has to be done right, and that means taking the quarterly profit motive out of the industry.

On that topic, I saw a wingnut FB meme about Mt. Etna spewing more CO2 into our atmosphere than humans ever have. Somehow I don’t think it’s that simple; I’m sure volcanoes do have a dramatic climatic impact, but it seems more short-term. If it really dumped 10,000 times more CO2 than all of human activity, wouldn’t the climatic response be different?

re: #212 thedopefishlives

And the answer is, cars are worse than volcanoes:

Gas studies at volcanoes worldwide have helped volcanologists tally up a global volcanic CO2 budget in the same way that nations around the globe have cooperated to determine how much CO2 is released by human activity through the burning of fossil fuels. Our studies show that globally, volcanoes on land and under the sea release a total of about 200 million tonnes of CO2 annually.

This seems like a huge amount of CO2, but a visit to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) website (cdiac.ornl.gov) helps anyone armed with a handheld calculator and a high school chemistry text put the volcanic CO2 tally into perspective. Because while 200 million tonnes of CO2 is large, the global fossil fuel CO2 emissions for 2003 tipped the scales at 26.8 billion tonnes. Thus, not only does volcanic CO2 not dwarf that of human activity, it actually comprises less than 1 percent of that value.

Dachshunds. Lovable, right?

Yes. Emphatically. And yet.

My wife and I house-sat for a year for a friend just after we were married. I was still a grad student. We only had to pay the utilities. But the house came with their beloved Dachshund. For the most part, the little fellow was a joy. But he bit my wife twice and came after me a couple of times (I hit him on the snout or butt as he lunged and he backed off). We knew not to get close to him when he was under anything—table, sofa, etc.—because it was his “shelter” to protect (that’s what his owners told us). But he got after us in unexpected situations, too. I don’t blame the dog. He was acting by instinct. But they are not necessarily friendly in all situations no matter how cute they look.

I have to edit this: when my wife became pregnant, though, the little guy wouldn’t leave her side. When she laid down on the sofa he’d try to get up to put his head on her.

I would never warn against having a dachshund. Just know that they can also have fierce characters that is outsize for their bodies.

I was on the Stennis while it was under construction, so we ran the reactors a lot sitting still.

It didn’t happen.

What was wrong with what he said? I thought the exchange was very well handled.

The problem was it came off as the same shit #BLM has been hearing for 18 months now, a variation of “black on black violence is the real problem.” Bill should have known better, defending the Superpredators comment at this point in the campaign, when Hillary has gone so far to convey how much she regrets it, just showed how much of a loose, easily provokable cannon Bill is. It doesn’t do any good to remind people she was referring to violent criminal gangs if that fact isn’t immediately followed up by an acknowledgement that it was at best an inarticulate term and that the ‘94 Crime Bill resulted in gross racial injustice.

People need to acknowledge their limitations and admit to learning from their mistakes, Bill isn’t doing Hillary any favors by being anything less than contrite, earnest and open about the aspect of his Administration’s legacy.

Smith25: We were only there for two years. Looking out for the academic interests of our kids, we got them into the magnet schools the second year. Son #1 had a good year at Winburn MS after an ok year at Picadome, but as you know Winburn is very diverse and yet it gives the illusion of diversity. He played in the band and that was the only time he really had a chance to engage with the African-American and Hispanic part of the school. He would have gone to Jesse Clark. We had heard rumors about Jesse Clark and fights, etc., but I never found any evidence. Anyway, I can’t make any grand statements. I can only say that you are well positioned to play a very important role. I heard about racial animosity, but didn’t have to experience it through my kids in Lexington in the way you describe. Best of luck.

edited: I put an asterisk by “way you describe” before, but I only had a general comment. My kids are half Asian and found it hard to make friends at Picadome outside of the few Japanese kids there. Winburn was great because my son found Indian-American and Chinese-American kids he could relate to; the white community at the schools we had been to before were not hateful, they just weren’t entirely accepting. Same happened for son #2 at Meadowthorpe.

re: #242 Barefoot Grin

Doxies are statistically the meanest dogs. Yet Pitts, sheps, dobies and rotties have legislation in various cities/states outlawing them. It’s not the dog, it’s the owner that makes a bad dog.

We have a rescue Doxie. Hubby and I can do anything to him. But he’ll bite anyone who comes over. I crate him when company comes. He’s a nasty little 10 pound cutie pie.

Ha! When his hair stood up in attack mode I’d command him to get in his crate and he always complied. Definitely bred for comfort in cramped, dark spaces and to attack meaner beasts like badgers. And yet, really cute and 98% docile. It’s that 2%.

re: #279 goddamnedfrank

I watched it myself and did not feel that way at all. But that’s just how I saw it. I wouldn’t tell someone else how to feel.

Most doxies I read about - and mine - lives under a blanket. He burrows all the time, day and night. They’re bred as badger hunting dogs so they’re bread to go into burrows and kill nasty, really nasty, critters.

Do not mess with a Doxie. They’re 10 lbs of FIERCE.

She’s from VT if I remember correctly.

You do not remember correctly. She is from northern California and resides in western Massachusetts.

Having said that, I do think she leans a bit toward Bernie.

I turned off her show tonight, did not feel the need for an EXCLUSIVE Martin O’Malley interview and (especially) the Jan Sanders interview. I also agree with Frank that she has been playing up the TV viewer generating aspects of the election season too much (as is her entire network, and the entire industry). Even with this being the case, the first 15-20 minute segment of her show each night is the almost always the best and most thoughtful part of cable news on any given day.

So, you’re going to support an unqualified (your words) candidate??

Watching the entire interview now on PBS. Bernie attempting the moonwalk.
Charlie not letting him get away with much.

I think the point is that people need to KNOW what the jackets cost. Otherwise the jacket would not be attractive to the rich.
