Fox News Hates Michelle Obama on Thanksgiving

Wingnuts • Views: 30,853

One of the most insane right wing memes going around in the kookosphere is that Michelle Obama is socialistically trying to control what everybody eats. The commie.

This is what she gets for trying to make people aware of the benefits of eating healthy food — right wing hatred, coming to you directly from Fox News on Thanksgiving Day, in a really sick little article titled: Michelle Obama OKs Americans to Eat Pie on Thanksgiving.

And the comments are unbelievable. Overt racism and dim-witted deranged ranting, with more than 400 commenters spewing hatred right on cue. Not a single sane person shows up to comment.

Another misrepresentation by FOX, just to deepen the political schism.

I can hardly wait to see what they'll have to say on Christmas.

Conservative groups on FB contain similar commentary too. It's becoming increasingly difficult for me to have respect for the couple of real life and FB friends who belong to such groups. The racism and lies are way out in front, for all to see (e.g. "Being Conservative," and "Red, White, and Blue).

It has partially become racist theater. But it isn't just that. Michelle Obama has done nothing but be courteous and exemplary as a First Lady. Yet attacking her is just a very mean way to attack the president. They don't just want to discredit Obama. They want to hurt his feelings. They want to hurt the man on a personal level. There are few things more insulting that you can do than pick on a man's wife. It is just like middle schoolers looking for the meanest thing they can possibly say and competing with each other to say it.

It it that base and that childish. America has become infested with surly gossipy, bullying teens who are trapped in flabby adult bodies.

Yup, it's over the top- and for no reason other than to be adversarial.

I don't believe that for most people, racism is the driving force, but that doesn't change the reality. For those for whom racism does matter, the escalated and shrill hysteria will only feed their dysfunction.

The phenomena is not new- it was evident when Gore chose Lieberman as his running mate and to some extent the same applies to Eric Cantor. The Paulians, Rockwellians, etc., and their elements within the TP can hardly contain their disdain for Cantor- anti semitism wrapped in a political cloak.

Are the vast majority of the TP members racists and anti semites? No- I don't believe that for a moment. Nevertheless, that movement has provided them a home and cover.

Sometimes, the tent can be a little too big.

These are the same people who were screaming for Van Jones's head, because he once signed a petition without knowing it would be used by Truthers. Jones never said a SINGLE WORD to support the charge that he was a Truther, and in fact explicitly DENIED it.

He's asking for a divorce. They have a baby under a year old. His reason? All the other guys in the unit are getting divorced, it will happen eventually, and 'he may as well get it out of the way now'.

28 dragonfire1981  Thu, Nov 25, 2010 11:08:13am

It's really amazing to see the power of spin. During the 2008 presidential campaign as the economy was nosediving and the first bailouts were enacted a lot of people got angry. They had a right to be because a lot of them ended up dealing with unexpected hardship through no fault of their own. Fox News and the right wing took advantage of the fear and convinced people the recession was not merely the result of profit driven banks with little to no oversight, but a vast left wing conspiracy to push the Republican party aside and take over America through European style socialist reforms. The fact the first black President was at the core of this apparent movement helped to popularize and legitimize ideas that before were considered too bizarre or racist or hate driven to ever gain any mainstream acceptance.

The economy remains in a delicate state. The anger of the populace still burns and Fox News and the right continue to do what's necessary to stoke the flames and keep the gravy train rolling. Do you have any idea how wealthy certain folks have become thanks to the Tea Party? Don't think for a minute they won't push the envelope as far as it can possibly go to keep the checks rolling in.

What little outrage they're expressing is obviously bogus. There are a few comments about how nobody should be associating with Alex Jones but if you take a look at the recent TSA threads at Hot Air there are tons of links to Alex Jones sites. Drudge has linked to him every day for weeks on end and nobody complained. It's just bullshit and they'll all fall in line and go along with the program.

The hypocrisy is stunning. I very much think that you should do a long thread with some links to past anti-trutherism from Fox and calls for Van Jone's head. Put it side by side with this. Just like you did with the rather document so everyone sees it in a way that can not be denied. Some of each. I think the key issue is portraying the Obamas as spoiled, rich, out-of-touch elitists, who have no idea what real Americans are like.

I think for a few of the crazier, there is a real idea that they will get to have an armed revolution, but they are a very fringe bunch.

Mostly, it's just this incredible resentment, which is odd, coming from people who generally will passionately defend tax cuts for the rich, and scream 'class envy' any time anyone suggests that poor people in America are not being given a completely fair shake.

Yes, you raise a point. People for whom racism is ugly can be anesthetized to some extent by repeated exposure (this is not unique to the TP- see left wing moral 'support' for the Palestinians). To some degree, you are channeling Bion (see this for a look at how that works in both a cultural and religious milieu).

That said, I do wonder just how deep that newly acquired racism really runs. People will often say and do things without thinking but when the consequences of their behaviors confronts them, many if not most, will retreat. I believe that to be true of western democratic societies on either side of the mainstream.

Actually, here in New Zealand Thanksgiving was sort of yesterday. There are no orange pumpkins here (they call most any round squash 'pumpkin'). The idea of pumpkin (squash) pie is unknown, as is mincemeat pie. You can't find turkeys, either. I saw Russell Simmons on TV just the other day talking about this, almost in tears over how quickly this sort of repetitious rhetoric leads to things like Rwanda or Bosnia, and he fears the same thing is gearing up to happen here.

Obama say,

"This Thanksgiving Day, we reflect on the compassion and contributions of Native Americans, whose skill in agriculture helped the early colonists survive, and whose rich culture continues to add to our Nation's heritage."

The head of the Republican party say in reply,

The true story of Thanksgiving is how socialism failed. Of course we showed them gratitude. We shared our bounty with them. Not because we didn't know how to make it. It's because we first failed as socialists. Only when we turned capitalists did we have plenty. The Indians didn't teach us capitalism."

The setting: A family gathering. Cousins sitting around chit chatting.

Me in a conversation with another cousin about food and things she did which helped her lose some extra pounds.

Somewhere in the conversation:

My cousin: "yeah I take the skin of my chicken now..."
Me: Yeah that's a good way to cut out some of the calories and still eat yummy chicken dishes..."

Crazy cousin who really hasn't been part of the conversation: " Screw you guys no one is going to make me not eat chicken skin. It's the best damn part! And fuck you I love butter and big huge steaks as well. I have steak 3 times a week!!!"

Us: ---confused silence (especially since there has been no mention of butter and steaks and no mention of him either) ----

Crazy cousin: I hate salad too! I'm not a fuckin rabbit. I'm not eating salad.

Us: Hmmm....(no talking about salad either)

Crazy cousin: Gets up and walks away looking visibly pissed off.

Us: Okeee..... now where were we? Yes, yes, I have a great way of making chicken, first you....."

I have a friend who runs a low-carb diet blog, she calls today (and Christmas and your birthday) "indulgence days" when you're encouraged to disregard everything you know about sensible eating. Her readers/commenters seem really grateful, they get weeks of pleasure and easy-willpower by anticipating indulgence days and planning their splurges. Atheists' Billboard Calls Nativity a 'Myth'

MYFOXNY.COM - A group called the American Atheists has paid for a huge billboard on Route 495 outside the Lincoln Tunnel in North Bergen, N.J., that is raising some eyebrows.

The billboard shows a silhouette of the Three Wise Men approaching the Nativity, with the words: "You KNOW it's a Myth / This Season, Celebrate REASON!"

The interesting part is that the atheist org that put up the billboard approached a christian org ahead of time, suggesting they put up a competing billboard across the street. They declined, saying their money could be better spent elsewhere.

re: #18 researchok

Agreed. Strident people are OK, but it's best to keep the haters outside the tent, in the Freak Show where they belong.

Solstice. (our massive human intellect allows us to predict when the days will stop getting shorter and start getting longer instead! we've known people who figured out why the stars and planets move the way they do! and we've sent machines, some with people in them, to take a closer look! their photographs make excellent screensavers and desktops).

You buy a potted live solstice tree, decorate it with stars and comets and spaceships (my favorite is the B5 star-furies, YMMV), and beneath it set out the beautifully wrapped (in recycled paper) packages of sensible presents (everybody needs socks and a good pair of slippers. plus chocolate).

After the solstice has passed, take the tree somewhere and plant it.

And then there's Festivus!! (for the rest of us!) on December 23.

Feats of strength! The airing of grievances!

And as always, I shall post the text of this delightful piece.

"Christmukah" is not a true observance, it's nothing more than a commerical marketing scheme. Fior those who want true religious syncretism, I present for your consideration a new Winter Solistice holiday: Chanumas.

Observance of this holiday season starts on erev Thanksgiving, when the Head of the Household (the sages say that all who are bar or bat mitzvah) wtites a ritual letter to the President of the United States offering to pay down the National Debt in return for being made Chief Rabbi of Israel. This is in memory of the High Priests Jason and Menaleus, who actually pulled the same stunt with King Antiochus IV, and thus set in motion the events that led up to Channukah. [Of course, it is forbidden to actually mail this letter, unless, of course, you want to be included on the U.S. Secret Service's "nutcase list."]

The day after Thangkgiving is called "Black Friday," named in honor of the holy frum ("black-hatter") Jews who are inconvienced in their Shabbos shopping by the increased traffic.

From this point until 10 days after the Winter Solistice, it is considered meritorious to buy things you don't need and give them to people you don't like. It is also considered equally meritorious to return unwanted gifts to the store. This is a mitzvah, as it provides gainful employment to store clerks and inmates of the Chinese penal system, who manufactured the gifts in the first place. It is obligatory for Jews to only buy items at discounted price. This requirement is optional for Gentiles.

Truly frum observance of Chanumas involves lighted displays on the house in the front and back yards. It is considered meritorious to leave one's sukkah standing through Chanumas, so one can reuse the lights without having to put them out twice. It is said that Rabbi Menachem Mistletoe had a particularly compelling display, which consisted a a statue of a Maccabean warrior with his foot on the chest of a prostrate Antiochus, about to plunge his sword through the villain's heart, and an inscription in blinking LED lights: "Peace on Earth: because we won!!"

An important aspect of Chanumas is that, even though one is required to be at his or her normal place of employement during the season, it is forbidden that any real work actually get done. The normal minhag is for each department to hold Chanumas parties that are essentially potluck lunches that last until quitting time. Some organizations hold additional Chanumas parties off-hours at offsite locations, but Beis Hillel says this is nothing more than a cheap attempt to avoid legal liability for the actions of inebriated guests. Beis Shammai says this proves that what America needs is tort reform and to send the trial lawyers to Siberia.

Because dairy foods and alcohol are traditional for Chanukkah (in commemoration of the Jewish woman of valor who fed the Greek general cheesecake and wine, got him drunk, and chopped off his head), and becuase eggnog (an alcoholic dairy beverage) is traditional for Christmas, it is obligatory for all who celebrate Chanumas properly to drink eggnogg until they cannot tell the difference between Judah Maccabee and Santa Claus.

114 SanFranciscoZionist  Thu, Nov 25, 2010 1:07:24pm

(continued)

Chanumas gifts are not delivered by Santa Claus, "Harry Channukah," "Father Mattithias," or any other individual associated with either Channukah or Christmas. Rather they are delivered by Mr. Ten Li Chao, who runs the gift workshops of the Chinese Prison System. Mr. Chao rides around the world in a flying container ship powered by large marine diesel engines, lands on everyones roof, picks the lock on the fornt door, and spreads the gifts out. Little girls and boys who are nice get a free copy of Chairman Mao's "Little Red Book," children who are naughty get a chance to work as one of Mr. Chao's "elves."

The gits themselve are placed under the Chanumas bush. This is not a piece of shrubbery, rather it is a life size effigy of President George W. Bush. It is considered meritorious, but optional, depending on political affiliation, to decorate the Chanumas bush by inserting voodoo pins into the effigy.

As for December 25, the actual day of Chanumas, there are very few fixed observances. Many like to serve a festive meal of roast goose, latkes, plum pudding, and a green vegetable. However, the truly pious will eat out at a Chinese restaurant in commemoration of Mr. Ten Li Chao and go to a movie theatre and watch a movie.

And don't forget Canukkah, when Rabbi of the Lake Winnipegosis Temple thought he only had enough chainsaw oil to cut one cord of wood, which would not have lasted the winter.

But through a wonder, the oil lasted long enough to cut seven cords.

The point I am trying to make is that his geneaolgy is irrelevant to his message.

The "words of the prophets" and the myths & stories that surround him were the means that the Evangelists used to get his word out, first to the Jews and then to the rest of the World, but I see them in the end as as window dressing.

I would say that running a large billboard encouraging people to acknowledge their lack of faith doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense either, but what the hell. Neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, as the saying goes...

It makes sense if they want to have even such a meager "megaphone" if they don't have much of an alternative for communicating their message, but there cannot be a billboard for each and every religion. So what makes sense from such a perspective, once one agrees that the billboard is at least a fun idea, is to critique either all religions, or the dominant one.

NASA: Stripe that disappeared on Jupiter coming back

One of Jupiter's stripes that "disappeared" last spring is reappearing – and the disappearance was apparently an illusion created by Jupiter's atmosphere, NASA scientists said.

Scientists noticed earlier this year that the longstanding dark-brown stripe, called the South Equatorial Belt, had turned white, essentially disappearing. Researchers with NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility, the W.M. Keck Observatory and the Gemini Observatory telescope began studying the phenomenon and found the answer likely lies in a cloud deck made up of white ammonia ice that basically obscured the ring.

"Every few decades or so, the South Equatorial Belt turns completely white for perhaps one to three years, an event that has puzzled scientists for decades," NASA said in a press release.

NASA said that "extreme change" has only been seen on that particular stripe, making it unique for Jupiter and all of our solar system.

"The reason Jupiter seemed to 'lose' this band – camouflaging itself among the surrounding white bands – is that the usual downwelling winds that are dry and keep the region clear of clouds died down," said Glenn Orton, a scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. "One of the things we were looking for in the infrared was evidence that the darker material emerging to the west of the bright spot was actually the start of clearing in the cloud deck, and that is precisely what we saw."

For scientists, the development is a step toward understanding more about the planet's atmosphere. It also marks the first time, according to NASA, that modern instruments have been used to understand the chemical and dynamic changes of the phenomenon.

And it could mean big things for future NASA missions.

"Observing this event carefully may help to refine the scientific questions to be posed by NASA's Juno spacecraft, due to arrive at Jupiter in 2016, and a larger, proposed mission to orbit Jupiter and explore its satellite Europa after 2020," NASA said.

Abdel Kareem Nabil -- known by his blogger name, Kareem Amer -- is a self-proclaimed secularist who was convicted and imprisoned by Egypt for "spreading information disruptive of public order and damaging to the country's reputation," "incitement to hate Islam" and "defaming the president of the republic," according to a statement from the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The former law student at Cairo's Al-Azhar University is a critic of conservative Muslims and has accused his school of promoting extremist ideas, calling Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak a "dictator," it said.

Actually, Thanksgiving is the anniversary of that now-suppressed day in 1880 when Cthulhu rose from the sea off Galveston, sloughed his way inland, and devoured a KKK Klavern, 7 preachers, and 5 smarmy reporters who imprudently came out to watch, with a matched pair of fattened sugarmill owners and a legislator for dessert.

I spoke to Bill's brother today & we cried.

I'm with you in spirit.
