Is it just me that thinks ALL the NFL throwback uniforms are better than the contemporary unis?

Or is it because I started watching pro football in the NFL/AFL days?

I think you are right..But there are some that have never changed…I think Green Bay and the Colts are the same..I believe there are 2 others I can’t recall..Some say the Chargers should have never changed from powder blues

The Colts just used throwbacks in either the Philly or the New England game (I watched both). They were great unis. The helmets were dark blue with dual horseshoes in the back above the collar like it was running away.

Probably had to go back to the 40’s to get the style.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I had an impression that general consensus on LGF concerning Park51 project was in favor of said development. I use AdBlock on all my windows installations and never see any advertisements. Today however, I am checking out BackTrack 4r2 firefox installation of which isn’t compatible with AdBlock plugin. So, I go on LGF to see if I managed to copy my profile correctly from windows and see this:

On second thought it should be possible to run KDE on windows natively by using cygwin. I’ve never tried it, I usually run WindowMaker instead, but I think it’s doable. Even if there isn’t a binary KDE cygwin package you can probably build it by hand since cygwin has gcc, automake, etc. I’ve built bind/dig for windows, no problem.

I prefer this “Wraith.” This is from War of Honor Chapter 22.

In a lot of ways, I have to agree with Alistair,” Truman put in. “Not that Wraith and I can’t find a lot of useful things to do with the additional time, of course.”

She cocked her head at Captain (senior-grade) Craig Goodrick, her chief of staff. Goodrick, who’d earned the nickname “Wraith” for his work with the electronic warfare capabilities of the first Shrike-class LACs, was an unremarkable-looking officer. The brain hiding behind his unassuming façade, however, was one of the better ones in the RMN, at least when it could be pried away from contemplating a hand of spades.

The Doll House, for starters. My brother has always had my sister in law on a pedestal, and they are now going to get a divorce, with her still on the pedestal. He sounds like he is discussing the relocation of a pet, or something a bit removed from where I think a wife should be. It is just weird.

I am uber-blessed and uber-thankful for my inlaws. They’re kinda crazy, but in a good way. They were all at my mother-in-laws in CA, so as we were chatting, they were texting pictures of themselves on the phone talking to us. That was enough material for about 20 minutes. LOL

My brother made us all happy when he left his wife 2 years ago. I’m not sure he knows that we’re happy, but probably does. He reunited with his high school sweetheart and she’s great. Gd bless the internet.

Because VMWare and Virtualbox are both excruciatingly slow. Wanna see how Windows 7 runs on a 486? No problem, just install it in a VM.

Did you turn on virtualization in your BIOS and in VBox?

I have several VMs using VirtualBox on my laptop and even more on my desktop. The slowdown is virtually imperceptible in most cases. I run Server 2003 and Server 2008 in VMs.

Time for an old relative story? Cousins Irving and Ethel. Ethel was my mother’s first cousin. They were both born around the late 20s, early 30s.

Ethel was a spoiled, crass woman. She spoke about her “colored” help and bragged she would never wear anything but diamonds. In fact, she had a bracelet which spelled “Ethel” in diamonds.

Irving made a great living in textiles. My dad always admired him because he made his own way in the world. Raised in NY in the 30s, he was abandoned when he was 12 or 13. I don’t know how that happened, but he lived on the streets and got into a lot of gang trouble. Eventually, though, he managed to make a good living, even without an education. He was my favorite of my mother’s cousins. He was a tough guy (and a big guy) with a Tony Sporano kind of demeanor.

One Thanksgiving dinner, Ethel is going on and on about all her stuff and Irving says, “Ethel! What are going to do when I die?” And Ethel says,” Oh please! With all the money you’ll leave me, I can hire as many people as I need!”

3 juvenile goats and 3 canines?…

Close but as I’m sure you realize the kids referenced are just my children. My nic is actually no longer accurate because one of my beloved dogs passed away a few weeks ago. She was about 12. Unfortunately, this was probably the least traumatic event for me in these past twelve months. I has a major sad :-(

Did you turn on virtualization in your BIOS and in VBox?

I have several VMs using VirtualBox on my laptop and even more on my desktop. The slowdown is virtually imperceptible in most cases. I run Server 2003 and Server 2008 in VMs.

The VMs in my new desktop are way faster than native Win 7 on my laptop.

My main desktop is FAR from bleeding edge, but both the motherboard and cpu explicitly tout virtualization shenanigans in their marketing propaganda. atively, I run fairly vanilla 64-bit Fedora 14 (used to be Arch, but tragically the AUR is turning to shit, and I prefer it to be non-shitty) and 64-bit Win7. On either platform, both VMware and Virtualbox are pretty much unusable. Waiting 3 or 4 seconds for a right-click context menu to appear is unacceptable.

HAVING SAID ALL THAT —

These complaints are in no way comparable to the day-to-day life of a Darfur war orphan. Now I’m off to hate myself a wee little bit more.

When I moved into my current home circumstances dictated that the only dog I had at the time had to be left in the new house alone for about 8 hours. What we returned to was very unpleasant. An already insecure dog was put to the test and it wasn’t pretty. Thankfully the house was empty of furniture so it was just clean up and wall patching.

115 WINDUPBIRD DISEASE [S.K.U.M.M.]  Thu, Nov 25, 2010 7:27:07pm

We all came back from the war
I wish somebody would tell me the score
We raked old Poseidon over the coals
Shook his shells, shaved his shoals
Where can a soldier fix himself a drink
Forget the noise, forget the stink
And the opium is running pretty low
‘Cause when the pain comes back, I don’t want to know
Across yonder ocean the natives are fierce
Their ears are filled their teeth are pierced
But it’s not their spears that spill your breath
They kill their enemies by loving them to death

We were on some battlefield
I felt something soft go through my shield
I felt something warm enter my guts
I was bleeding bad but there were no cuts
They captured three of us, took us back to their village
After a long long time I could decipher their language
They worshipped Baal, they worshipped the sun
They worshipped the son of the evil one

They were more than voracious, they sucked our ambition
They let me go on one condition
That was when I came back to my native shore
I tell you they don’t want to play with us anymore
But a part of me will never be free
And the part that’s free will never be me
But a thing of love and beauty is in my head
A message from my enemies, and here’s what they said

They said that love = hate
And death = fate
An enemy always = an adorer
But priest = aura
And life = time
And time = space
And space = sublime
And human = race
Oh and woman = man
And pot = pan
The fauna ought to equal the flora
But priest = aura
And beginning = the end
The end always = the start
But straight = bent
The mind sometimes = the heart
And you = me
The land = the sea
Richer = poorer
And priest = aura

Strange to see someone like that trolling the LGF Pages. Usually they do it on the main pages. I wonder if he realizes when he says “Congratulations to those countries for standing up and saying no to perversion” that he is siding with the usual suspects in the Middle East and North Africa. There are other countries for sure by they pressed the resolution in the UN.

That’s because this is the day when people are supposed to get together and eat yummy home-cooked food and acknowledge each other, without caring about what happens on the internet or whatever. You know, peace and love and good happiness-stuff.

As far as I can tell, the meds don’t work.

From your link.

looks like we came out on the better side.

A secret amendment added to the treaty in 2371 allowed for the limited supervised use of at least one cloaking device on loan from the Romulans. Operation of the cloaking device was to be limited to the Gamma Quadrant. In return, the Romulans would receive all information the Federation obtained on the USS Defiant’s voyages into the Gamma Quadrant, most importantly any information concerning the Dominion. As such, the Defiant was the only Federation ship to be permanently equipped with a cloaking device. (DS9: “The Search, Part I”, “Visionary”) However, Captain Benjamin Sisko and his crew violated this amendment on several occasions by using the cloaking device in the Alpha Quadrant. (DS9: “The Way of the Warrior”, et al)

We won, You lost. Get over it.

And the Chinese aren’t even making a real protest, either. They’re calling for resumption of the six-party talks. China does not want an all-out war to break out. Now, the question is how can we work with China to ensure that the peace is kept?

Here’s the latest statement from the NORKS:

“The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the reckless plan of those trigger-happy elements to stage again the war exercises targeted against the DPRK,” the official Korean Central News Agency said.

Trigger happy? Let’s see they killed 4 people this week and earlier this year 46 South Korean Navy sailor went down with the sinking of the Cheonan. They surely live in another reality and are almost a caricature of the old Soviet and Maoist regimes.

True. A lot will depend on if the North strikes again and how the South responds. I really don’t see much of a military objective there other than exchanges of firepower because an invasion of the North is not in the cards. Best hope would be for China to talk some sense to the North which seems rather improbable.

Kim Jong Il is trying to make sure his youngest son succeeds him to power. This may be part of that plan: Revealing Kim Sun Il as the architect of the campaign “that terrified the Imperialists!!1”. Killing innocents to ensure a political succession is lower than shit.

I’m not optimistic at all. Kim Jong Il may very well be around for the next 20 years and his son will probably continue the tradition. China will continue to use them as Fort North Korea since their interest is primarily strategic.

China has let North Korea , in my words, “their Mad Dog” run free for way too long. It is time that they put a chain on their dog. Will they do it? Only time will tell. But if I had a nuclear capable U.S. Carrier Strike Force heading for my backwaters and diminishing support from the rest of the world I would be trying.

People, I haven’t been an alarmist here. But even I can see a parallel between the N/S Korea Crises and the Cuban missile crises. We are being pushed. The only question is how far will we be pushed and how far are we willing to push back.

JFK and Khrushchev. It was Khrushchev and the Soviets that pulled back under threat of war because of the Cuban missiles. The problem is that there is no “Khrushchev” for North Korea and they are essentially acting on their own. China only uses them as puppet to a limited extent and it’s not like the Cuban-Soviet relationship of 1962.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone……

Did a ham for my wife’s first American Thanksgiving cuz we’re not a big fan of turkey. (Although I do a great brined turkey… but it’s still..uh…. turkey.)

I’m not a big fan of ham either, but we put a 10 pound shank in a cooking bag and poured in some cola, pineapple juice, and orange juice. Cooked it for 3.5 hours at 250 degrees. We removed the bag, and smeared that bad boy with a honey brown sugar mixture, broiling it until carmaly bubbly (for about 10 minutes). I didn’t need my usual horseradish cream sauce. It was the best ham I ever had.

It could well be a defining moment of Obama’s presidency, depending on far he is willing to go. Cuba’s missles were a direct threat to the US and were partially the result of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. JFK’s response to that crisis not only successfully resolved the issue but served to boost our cred in most places around the world. DROK doesn’t pose a direct threat to the US so any response from Obama will have to couched within the limited of our mutual support treaties with South Korea. In any event, it is a frightening scenario.

Right. But it’s only a matter of time before they become a threat to Alaska and Hawaii. Right now the immediate threats are to South Korea and Japan which is sufficient. Much of this will take place well after 2016 since nuclear weapons development takes many years.

The latest national security threat: obesity

Are we becoming a nation too fat to defend ourselves?

It seems incredible, but these are the facts: As of 2005, at least 9 million young adults — 27 percent of all Americans ages 17 to 24 — were too overweight to serve in the military, according to the Army’s analysis of national data. And since then, these high numbers have remained largely unchanged.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show obesity rates among young adults increasing dramatically nationwide. From 1998 to 2008, the number of states reporting that 40 percent or more of young adults are overweight or obese has risen from one to 39.

While other significant factors can keep our youth from joining the military — such as lacking a high school diploma or having a serious criminal record — being overweight or obese has become the leading medical reason recruits are rejected for military service. Since 1995, the proportion of potential recruits who failed their physical exams because of weight issues has increased nearly 70 percent, according to data reported by the Division of Preventive Medicine at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

We consider this problem so serious from a national security perspective that we have joined more than 130 other retired generals, admirals and senior military leaders in calling on Congress to pass new child nutrition legislation.

What children eat and drink during school hours constitutes as much as 40 percent of their daily nutrient intake. Properly managed, the school environment can be instrumental in fostering healthful eating habits among our children.

You know. I think the “national security” thing is being overplayed with everything. I mean. Heck. Home foreclosures are a national security threat.

True.
Though, I think it has merit here.

re: #232 Cannadian Club Akbar

And BTW, aren’t kids starving here?

Yeah. And many are also obese.

Yeah. And many are also obese.

Anyway. Some of that stuff starting showing in my schools back in 7th grade. Most of it emphasized exercise rather than diet since most school lunch menus still had the old fashioned tater-tots. I think they should consider both diet and exercise which is the standard route. Eating well without exercise can still result in obesity.

Exceptionally full am I. The turkey was tuscan style with spices, the gravy had pancetta in it, and the stuffing had sweet Italian sausage in it. Plenty of red wine and bubbly too. Plus the garlic spinach, pesto salad, cucumber salad, pumpkin pie and the ice cream. Crikey. Of course, I was sent home with leftovers.

The only thing that really matters is what you think about when you’re sitting on the throne. If you’re sitting on the throne thinking about Palin or Obama then I’d say you would have a problem. Otherwise it’s still a fun hobby.
