This is absolutely typical behavior for Rush Limbaugh, and you can now expect all the right wing blogs to start spouting the same talking point in unison: Limbaugh: “I Acted Too Much Like The Leftists Who Despise Me”.

Yes, he’s blaming the left.

Media Matters

Rush Limbaugh has accomplished something very real with his piggish remarks, though. Before this, the Republican Party was having some success in reframing the debate over contraception as an issue of “religious freedom.” It was a stupid angle, but they were playing it hard and sowing confusion for all they were worth.

But since Rush Limbaugh launched this sickeningly personal attack on a woman whose only offense was to testify about the need for private insurance to cover contraception, and since the right wing media and blogosphere closed ranks around their idol and ferociously doubled down on Rush’s misogyny, it’s become crystal clear that the GOP’s “religious freedom” ruse was simply that — a sham.

This debate over contraception is about the religious right wing’s reactionary compulsion to try to control the awesome power of the vagina, and it always has been.

• Blaming others for any set of consequences usually constitutes denial.
• Denial keeps all addicts in their addictions.

Sorry if my typing is off, but I was down on the floor teaching the 6 year old when I saw what I thought were bits of cut off lamination (entirely possible in this house) and went to scrape them up and throw them away.

A bandaid, a quick trip out of the room for the 6 year old, a thorough vacuuming (along with a vacuum cleaning, unfortunately), and a thorough eyeballing of the floor later, I have resolved to be more careful about the broken slip covers from the microscope kit and make sure they get properly thrown away.

Rush Limbaugh has a freedom of speech and can say what he wants, but in light of his horribly misogynistic comments, American Forces Radio should no longer give him a platform. Our entire military depends on troops respecting each other – women and men. There simply can be no place on military airwaves for sentiments that would undermine that respect. When many of our female troops use birth control, for Limbaugh to say they are “sluts” and “prostitutes” is beyond the pale. It isn’t just disrespectful to our women serving our country, but it’s language that goes against everything that makes our military work. Again, we swore to uphold our Constitution, including the freedom of speech, and would not take that away from anyone – even Limbaugh. But that does not mean AFN should broadcast him. In fact, it shouldn’t.

I totally disagree. There is NO legitimate argument in favor of allowing employers to decide whether women employees should have contraception.

This argument is bogus. It’s intended to play on feelings of religious persecution, that are themselves bogus, invented grievances. It’s a fake issue, designed to mask the real intent - controlling women.

I found out which radio stations in my area are Clear Channel, then I emailed Clear Channel to inform them I will no longer listen to their stations as long as they keep Limbaugh on the air. Ratings equal $$, and that is a language Clear Channel understands.

There is a legitimate argument on that end, it was raised by religious groups (like the Catholic Bishops and even the less conservative groups within the Church). This though, after the compromise and all the other stuff is the GOP taking the ball and tripping all over themselves.

You need to understand, the issue here is that birth control is specifically excluded from being a covered medication under some plans. We’re talking about drug plans that otherwise cover just about everything that is an approved drug. Birth control is being specifically singled out because of supposed moral reasons, not even because of cost. It’s not like these places aren’t offering drug coverage (Although some have threatened to drop it) and are expected to cover BC and only BC.

What’s the valid point, though? Why should an employer say that certain medical treatments are immoral? Should an employer also be able to forbid an employee from spending their paycheck on other ‘immoral’ things?

If you’re going to offer insurance, cover everything or don’t say you’re offering insurance. If you don’t want to cover birth control directly, then hire a benefits company that you pay, and let the benefits company provide it.

And these same assholes worry about Sharia law taking over.

I disagree.

The money put towards insurance is part of the pay package of the worker: it’s the employee’s money to do with what they please.

In addition to the heinous woman-controlling aspect of this, there’s a more subtle but still heinous way that this argument re-frames labor compensation. Treating health insurance as though it’s bestowed by the largesse of the employer…and that therefore the latter has a say in how it’s used…is like a callback to a manor-house, upstairs/downstairs class-stratified model of work.

Actually, if there was no legitimate argument over it the president wouldn’t have offered a compromise. A compromise I might add that was accepted by some parts of the Church (even the more liberal ones), while the bishops still had objections. Its at that point that I was referring to.

The GOP picked the ball from that point and are pushing something else, I’m not sure what it is, but to say that the initial proposal from the president didn’t pose some issues that needed to be discussed is kind of ignoring what is going on here. Issues that could come up to the supreme court.

Hey I know this is an unpopular opinion here (see some of the responses), but I think a distinction has to be made between the original objection to the plan which even Biden didn’t like, and the current “discussion” after the compromise who the lunatic fringe of the GOP has now picked up.

You guys want to say both things are the same, be my guest of course.

I’ve said for some time now that France is taking the lead due to their historic ties to the Levant (including Lebanon and Syria) so it’s not exactly surprising that they might have boots on the ground - special forces potentially trying to meet up with FSA leadership and/or coordinating activities.

Also, not surprising that the French foreign ministry says no troops on the ground while the French defense ministry says they can’t confirm or deny. Those are SOP talking points when the government can’t or wont respond.

No. See, I have no intention of going to see it.

First, because I have not gone to the theater for a movie since Serenity, and I almost didn’t go then.
Second, because I’m not interested. I wasn’t all that impressed with the originals. The trailers make the copycats look worse.

If I have nothing else to do someday when it’s showing free on late-night channels, I might watch it. Depends how long it’s been since I washed the cats or cleaned the septic tank, I suppose.

There is a legitimate argument on that end, it was raised by religious groups (like the Catholic Bishops and even the less conservative groups within the Church). This though, after the compromise and all the other stuff is the GOP taking the ball and tripping all over themselves.

Got here late, but feel the need to respond.

The legitimate argument of religious freedom is that no church has a right to use law to enforce it’s dogma. That was one of the prime intents of the separation of church and state. The church is presenting the argument that it does and that by denying it the ability it violates said separation.
