Matt Barber: Repeal of DOMA means Obama wants to criminalize Christianity
Matt Barber, vice president of Liberty Counsel Action, believes the Obama administration’s action is wrong on two counts.
“Not only did the president abdicate his duty to defend a law that was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, this president has taken it a step further and he is now engaging in radical homosexual activism,” states the Christian attorney.
Barber contends that Obama has become emboldened after being re-elected and “the mask is off.” And he predicts if DOMA is repealed, the floodgates will be opened against Christianity.
“If people are given special, suspect minority status based on aberrant sexual feelings and behaviors, then the Christian view that says homosexual behavior is both self-destructive and immoral … essentially becomes criminalized,” he warns.

Bachmann: “I didn’t get anything wrong”
Tea Party Rep. Michele Bachmann has been laying low since last November’s election when she came dangerously close to losing her House seat, possibly in preparation for a bid against Minnesota Sen. Al Franken in 2014.
But Bachmann, being Bachmann, couldn’t stay quiet forever — or even very long. And yesterday, she participated in a “newsmaker interview” at Patrick Henry College, a conservative evangelical school in Virginia (the man who introduced her said he wished the Tea Party movement had been “a little more conservative”). She addressed everything from her favorite contemporary singer (Beyoncé) to gay marriage (bad) to her mistakes (none).

So, David Barton, in an article on his WallBuilders website, has finally responded to the question of where he got the story he told on Glenn Beck’s web-based TV show about a classroom full of gun-toting elementary school students saving their teacher from a gunman in the 1850s. As suspected, the story did come from Louis L’Amour’s novel Bendigo Shafter. But Barton, who incessantly claims to use only primary sources, and constantly accuses anyone who criticizes him of not using primary sources (even when they do), defends his use of the story because L’Amour, in a recorded introduction to the audio version of one of his other stories, said it really happened:

The problem is what these people consider to be “persecuted” is nowhere close to what persecution was in Biblical times.
Once we start crucifying Christians upside down, burning them alive, beating them to a bloody pulp in a jail cell or boiling them in a vat of oil then maybe we can start using the word “persecution”.

Matt Barber: Repeal of DOMA means Obama wants to criminalize Christianity
No, Mr. Barber, you cannot be convicted of the crime of being Christian. You cannot be convicted if you /think/ other people’s behavior is self-destructive and immoral. The criminal part comes in if you do more than think ill of others.
The first amendment basically says that you cannot force me to worship your god. You cannot have a law which is based solely on your religious beliefs, you cannot deny rights based on your religious beliefs. If you insist on acting or denying in accordance with your beliefs, your action or refusal to act may indeed be a crime.
When people murdered black men for dating white women (and raped and/or beat the crap out of the women in many cases), they comtted crimes despite thinking they were acting to suppress immoral and self-destructive behavior. When people were arrested for throwing fire-bombs into women’s health clinics the arrests were for the assaults and property damage, not for thinking abortion supporters were Satan’s own.
It’s really pretty simple, Mr. Barber. There shall be no law favoring any particular religion. Let what is god’s remain god’s, and render what is caesar’s to caesar. If you can’t tell the difference, perhaps it isn’t god you’re hearing.

Found this report interesting:
Of all the rumors floating around about just why Pope Benedict XVI is hanging up his camauro, one has taken on a life of its own. According to several well-placed vaticanisti—or Vatican experts—in Rome, Benedict is resigning after being handed a secret red-covered dossier that included details about a network of gay priests who work inside the Vatican, but who play in secular Rome. The priests, it seems, are allegedly being blackmailed by a network of male prostitutes who worked at a sauna in Rome’s Quarto Miglio district, a health spa in the city center, and a private residence once entrusted to a prominent archbishop. The evidence reportedly includes compromising photos and videos of the prelates—sometimes caught on film in drag, and, in some cases, caught “in the act.”
Revelations about the alleged network are the basis of a 300-page report supposedly delivered to Benedict on December 17 by Cardinals Julian Herranz, Joseph Tomko, and Salvatore De Giorgi. According to the press reports, it was on that day that Benedict XVI decided once and for all to retire, after toying with the idea for months. He reportedly closed the dossier and locked it away in the pontifical apartment safe to be handed to his successor to deal with. According to reports originally printed by La Repubblica newspaper and the newsweekly Panorama (and followed up across the gamut of the Italian media), the crimes the cardinals uncovered involved breaking the commandments “Thou shalt not steal” and “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” the latter of which has been used in Vatican-speak to also refer to homosexual relations instead of the traditional reference to infidelity.
The trio of cardinals who authored the report, known in the Italian press as the “007 Priests,” were commissioned by Benedict to dig into the Vatileaks scandal that rocked the Holy See last fall when the pope’s butler, Paolo Gabriele, was convicted of stealing secret papal documents and leaking them to the press. The sleuthing cardinals ran a parallel investigation to the Vatican tribunal’s criminal case against the butler, but theirs was far more covert and focused not on the mechanics of the leaks, but on who within the Roman Curia might be the brains behind them. And, according to the leaked reports, what the “007 Priests” found went far beyond the pope’s private desk. “What’s coming out is very detailed X-ray of the Roman Curia that does not spare even the closest collaborators of the Pope,” wrote respected Vatican expert Ignazio Ingrao in Panorama. “The Pope was no stranger to the intrigues, but he probably did not know that under his pontificate there was such a complex network and such intricate chains of personal interests and unmentionable relationships.”
I can totally see him reading the report, putting it down and saying “Okay, that’s the last straw. Seacrest out!”

U.S. moves toward providing direct aid to Syrian rebels
The Obama administration is moving toward a major policy shift on Syria that could provide rebels there with equipment such as body armor and armored vehicles, and possibly military training, and could send humanitarian assistance directly to Syria’s opposition political coalition, according to U.S. and European officials.
The administration has not provided direct aid to the military or political side of the opposition throughout the two-year-old conflict, and U.S. officials remain opposed to providing weapons to the rebels.

Progress Kentucky issues apology to Elaine Chao
February 26, 2013
Progress Kentucky is dedicated to ensuring the people of KY have the kind of representation in the US Senate they deserve. In an effort to educate KY voters as to the varied interests of Sen. McConnell we provided information about connections between the senator and business and government interests in China. This information included an inappropriate comment on the ethnicity of the former Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao, the senator’s wife.
We apologize to the secretary for that unnecessary comment and have deleted the tweets in question. In addition, we have put a review process in place to ensure tweets and other social media communications from Progress KY are reviewed and approved prior to posting.
Senator McConnell’s record deserves a thorough and legitimate airing. We believe that after fair examination of it Kentuckians will agree that Senator McConnell has been wrong over and over on the issues that matter. We will continue to inform Kentucky voters the important issues at stake in this election.

Though the hearing is called a “Stand Your Ground Hearing”, that is because the SYG law provides for it. If Zimmerman was in fact pinned on the ground by Martin, then he would have the legal right to use force to stop Martin’s assault in any state in the Union. The “Canadian Caper” was the popular name given to the joint covert rescue by the Canadian government and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of six American diplomats who had evaded capture during the seizure of the United States embassy in Tehran, Iran, and taking of embassy personnel as hostages by Islamist students and militants on November 4, 1979…
It wasn’t Operation Argo. It was operation Canadian Caper. More Hollywood BS.

Hey Dark, what do you think of Kirk voting against Hagel?
82 | goddamnedfrank Tue, Feb 26, 2013 7:34:48pm |
re: #71 Dark_Falcon
Though the hearing is called a “Stand Your Ground Hearing”, that is because the SYG law provides for it. SYG still would not apply if Zimmerman’s claims are correct (Note: I am not saying that they are, I’m just explaining the situation). If Zimmerman was in fact pinned on the ground by Martin, then he would have the legal right to use force to stop Martin’s assault in any state in the Union. If escape from an assailant is impossible, then it is lawful to use deadly force to stop the assault.
What matters is how Zimmerman ended up on the ground. If he stalked Martin then initiated the physical confrontation and assault the fact he started to lose in no way justifies the application of lethal force.

I approve of his vote. Hagel is something of an ass in my mind and his siding against John McCain marks him as insufficiently loyal to his party. Refusing to allow a vote would have been wrong, but voting against Hagel was the right call for Mark Kirk.

They are using a hearing option grant by the law of that name, while not claiming the basis of justification the law set up. It’s splitting hairs, but the law often provides for hairsplitting distinctions. It’s also an attempt to divorce the case from a controversial legal provision. The defense attorney is essentially saying “Regardless of how you feel about Stand Your Ground, this case isn’t about that provision. George Zimmerman could not retreated from his assailant*, thus that provision does not apply.”
*: “His assailant” is the term defense counsel would likely use in making that statement, the object being to making Trayvon Martin into the bad guy of the fatal encounter. I used such language purely to produce a simulated quote and for no other purpose.

Then they should use “self defense”. It is purely semantics to say they are not using SYG while hoping to get totally immunity from criminal prosecution or even a civil case built on the provisions of the SYG law.
They are using SYG or they are not. Cant have it both ways.

Semantics, yes, but those can often count in front of a jury. And while the defense lawyer hopes to avoid a trial, he is preparing in case things reach that point. Remember that defense lawyers are not obligated to be intellectually honest in such matters; The laws allows them to DERP and mislead.

Sorry, DF, but the question of ability to retreat is not applicable only at the instant of the decision to draw and shoot. The option to withdraw existed prior to the confrontation which led to the shooting. Because he did not have a duty to retreat he could indeed create the situation and/or initiate the confrontation that led to the shooting.
SYG potentially applies. If it does not then GZ has some problems with the question: Why, believing the other person was a criminal, did you continue instead of withdrawing?

That is my point DF. They are being dishonest and trying to have it both ways. Political Atheist said CBS misled their viewers in stating Zimmerman was using SYG. They are using it. Yes, to try to avoid prosecution, no matter how much they deny it.

Architect: Vertical farm in San Diego would revolutionize U.S. produce consumption
A young architect hopes a developer will decide to build his 23-acre farm in the center of San Diego. Unlike most farms, this one would reach 500 feet into the sky.
Brandon Martella, 24, graduated from the New School of Architecture and Design last year and quickly finished his plans for the Live Share Grow tower. He told KPBS San Diego on Tuesday that his vertical farm was an attempt to revolutionize the industry, placing consumers closer to their food.
Half of the tower would contain residential units while the other half would contain growing space. Martella estimated that his farm could produce 500,000 thousand pounds of food every three months. The farm doesn’t require pesticides and could reuse the residents’ excrement as fertilizer, making environmentally friendly.
“The system I would want to use is to reclaim the grey water from the residential,” he explained. “That would actually feed into the building, be pumped to the top, through a series of aerobic reactions and charcoal filters the water would be cleansed, and that would feed the plants.”

There’s precedent of a person pursing a criminal that they witness committing a crime using SYG as a defense. Care to show us a precedent of someone initiating an assault on a random person who they’ve not witnessed do anything illegal successfully using the defense?
