Breitbart “News” Comes Apart at the Seams: Michelle Fields, Ben Shapiro Resign

The Donald Trump press conference where the alleged assault on Michelle Fields occurred

Tonight the hate site that Andrew Breitbart built is falling apart like a cheap suit: Michelle Fields, Ben Shapiro Resign From Breitbart.

Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields and editor-at-large Ben Shapiro are resigning from the company over the site’s handling of Donald Trump’s campaign manager’s alleged assault on Fields, BuzzFeed News has learned.

Fields and Shapiro informed Breitbart News chairman Steve Bannon of their decision Sunday night.

“Today I informed the management at Breitbart News of my immediate resignation,” Fields said in a statement sent to BuzzFeed News. “I do not believe Breitbart News has adequately stood by me during the events of the past week and because of that I believe it is now best for us to part ways.”

In his own statement, Shapiro said the episode was emblematic of how he believes the site’s management had sold out the legacy of its founder and namesake, the late Andrew Breitbart.

“Andrew’s life mission has been betrayed,” Shapiro wrote. “Indeed, Breitbart News, under the chairmanship of Steve Bannon, has put a stake through the heart of Andrew’s legacy. In my opinion, Steve Bannon is a bully, and has sold out Andrew’s mission in order to back another bully, Donald Trump; he has shaped the company into Trump’s personal Pravda, to the extent that he abandoned and undercut his own reporter, Breitbart News’ Michelle Fields, in order to protect Trump’s bully campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who allegedly assaulted Michelle.”

Breitbart Betrayed: What Is Breitbart News and Where Is It Going? is a book published in 2016 by the exiled Breitbart leader Ben Shapiro. This frequently reprinted work analyzed and criticized the course of historical development at Breitbart News following the death of Andrew Breitbart in 2012 and is regarded as Shapiro’s primary work dealing with the nature of Trumpism. The book was written by Shapiro during his Twitter exile.

There aren’t a lot of people who I’d enjoy seeing receive a comeuppance, but he’s one of them. It’s amazing how one person can somehow embody everything I loathe about the human race.

If I came across him gut-shot, screaming for his mother and bleeding to death on the street, I’d eventually call 911… But not before I browsed Yelp for a good local sandwich place, read some Twitter, and checked my e-mail.

Andrew Breitbart was a bomb throwing whack job. His site carries his legacy of hate and anger.

They’ve become their own insulated Universe of Hate over there, complete with a local vocabulary. A former co-worker of mine starting to go off the deep end on Facebook a while back, using some peculiar language about “Progs” and the like… Turns out that it’s Breitbart-speak.

There is a time and a place to go shirtless, but it doesn’t demand photographic evidence for the world to see. I am not built like Stephen Amell, for example, so I figure most people don’t want to see me sitting in my living room (where I am now) without my shirt on (too cold here now — wearing three layers on top and two on bottom — FYI).

Why was seeing the TV report about Michelle Fields so damned important that he had to post that photo on FB? I don’t get it.

It was always a question of when the squabbling amongst the man-children to whom Andy left his empire to would end up toppling it. I admit, I’m rather surprised it lasted as long as it has, but I think that’s largely due to the fact that they had a steady target in the President. Now that he’s on his way out and they’re left staring down the barrel of 4-8 years of making excuses for Trump, the fracture lines are beginning to grow.

Nothing about this picture indicates the abode of a well adjusted adult human being.

No, this is the lair of a severely damaged borderline individual with broken spacial reasoning abilities. Then, when you factor in that he included his nasty, soft core bear cub porno torso in the shot, you realize you’re looking at someone with a TOTAL inability to judge what kind of content is conducive to normal public consumption and the maintenance of one’s reputation as a functioning member thereof.

I don’t like Ben Shapiro but I’m glad he and Michelle Fields refused to abase themselves any further at that cesspool. The site’s reader base is not willing to listen to anyone who disagrees with Donald Trump, and when people get that deep into reality denial its time to hit the road.

I do not believe Donald Trump is an anti-Semite. …snip… But there is no question that a disquieting number of Trump supporters hate Jews as Jews. I think it’s a bad idea to declare it dead, or even sundered. All “sides” of this fight are bickering exactly over what kind of existential threat that should be hated and denied a voice the rest of the nation is. This is a very large spat…but what remains consistent is that there’s no move to the left, or even recognition that uniting with the left to stop the movement rightward is a good idea. This means that all these people fighting will still probably fall into line on votes to fuck over everybody.

And while Trump claims that he doesn’t want to take moral sides between the Israelis and the Palestinians for purposes of dealmaking, there’s another possible explanation: he doesn’t want to look like a “cuck” for Israel

Cuck in the alt-right political sense means anyone perceived to be supporting immigration reform policies, because such policies would further the trend towards the US becoming more ethnically diverse and multi-cultural. It’s a direct reference to interracial cuckold pornography, with the racists who use the term blaming a mythical international Jewish conspiracy to turn America into a majority non-white nation.

Note: Despite being a thorough going Cruz supporter I’ve reached out to the Trump campaign and offered to testify against Fields’ credibility now that Fields has doubled down on her implausible claim of assault by Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

I stand ready to turn over all text messages, emails, and phone records with Fields, which confirm that Fields is a serial liar with a history of drama seeking behavior upon request by law enforcement. To quote Nassim Taleb, “if you see fraud and don’t say fraud, then you are a fraud.”

re: #60 Ming5000

But don’t you think this RWNJ chaos and the levels of extremist behavior is the best chance in a while for some of the RWNJ minions to wake up from their fugue?

That would be…nice…but I would say it’s a very slender chance.

Thing is, we’re looking at the end-process of a very long cultural project in the US “right”—which is basically not conservative in a Burkean sense, but a sort of reactionary status quo welded to a snake oil outlet mall—to create an entirely enclosed concept-world. To this end, they’ve created an alternate media, an alternate theology, and an alternate national history. And all those bits are lashed together with conspiracy “logic” and anti-intellectualism, so too complicated an argument is suspect, and rigorous reality-testing is more suspect.

Alternate ways of thinking have been completely discounted by ridicule and the rehearsal of a series of stock caricature, to the point that it’s ritualized, a thought-stopping process in the cult sense. You can watch at least one board member here get dangerously close to self-awareness, then run back to “you’re all silly hippies who hate God and also Communists who will crush us because we’re the real smart people…Reagan.”

In a very real sense, the Trumpist phenomenon is people coming to a realization that they’ve been hoodwinked on financial matters…but the larger culture in which they’ve been steeped isn’t going to wash away. It’s not what they think, it’s how they think, that has resulted in the mess we’re seeing.

Any Jews on the right have to see the depth of the anti-semitism and the real reason for support of Israel.
Any minorities have to see the racism.
Women… I don’t know what other evidence women have needed. In fact Trump probably eased that tension.

Again…yeah, that would be great.

But people don’t work that way. Lots of folks start their thought process with special pleading: those other assholes are suffering because they deserve it, I’m one of the good ones that shouldn’t put up with this shit.

And again, the how they think problem takes precedent, this time over the “what is my identity.”

Actually, Ben Shapiro is an excellent example of this: up until it was really intensely in-his-face, he was willing to hang with people who had nasty things to say about Jews, and pooh-pooh the way anti-Semitic images and memes turned up in movements like Gamergate, on Breitbart, et cetera. And his Twitter routine frequently involved dismissing liberal Jews as Not Jews and Secular Jews and whatnot.

eta: He also did not do the heuristic math on the likelihood that people willing to talk shit about black people, women, and pretty much everybody brown might have issues with Jews. Indeed, give the scale, intensity, and kind of rage channeled into standard racist/sexist/xenophobic tropes, it’s kind of hard to over-state how much overlooking he was willing to do.

Though I guess the alternate explanation is he just completely lacks imagination and empathy…which actually isn’t better.

Now, I condemn antisemitism unequivocally. Ben Shapiro’s experience thereof is part of the larger set “antisemitism,” so, by axiom, I condemn it. But I’m not going to pretend that his own assessment of antisemitism hasn’t bent and flexed in manner that suited his political allegiances.

I don’t think there’s a whole lot of nuance to Anti-Semitism. Jew Hate is Jew Hate and it graphs on a steep climbing curve. “Hitler should have finished the job” is only a half-inch to the right of “They all stick together” on the X-axis when you draw this stuff out.

All Trump needs to do is imply Bernie paid the protesters this weekend with his Jew Gold, and the circle will complete itself. Skip over to “Ben Shapiro is a Joooo”, imply that all the assaults on Trump this week are coordinated, and voila! A wild Anti-Semitic Conspiracy appears!

I wonder if Chucksie is dreaming of taking over Breitbart with his beard buddy at Fake Rape Enterprises. First employment requirement: be able to grow facial hair above your nostrils.* They can hire a bunch of beardie-weirdie RapeBros and turn the place into a weird cross between Stormfront, Gamergate, and Weekly World News. Where will all the “conservatives” go for their bullshit news then? Poor angry stupid people, wandering lost in the Hatescape, with no place to lay their tiny, knot-filled little heads. Oh well. *gets another beer*

*Benji Baratheon wouldn’t qualify, because he doesn’t shave yet. (And good luck to him figuring out why it’s all falling apart. Maybe a miracle happens, and he sees what a bunch of assholes he’s been living with.)

re: #59 Ming5000

Something I learned about the neo-nazi underbelly of America. I saw the below tweet and thought “cuck” referred to perhaps Shapiro’s marital situation. It does not.

If you want the real meaning clarified, read “N*gger Lover” in your head whenever you see it in print.

re: #62 goddamnedfrank

Cuck in the alt-right political sense means anyone perceived to be supporting immigration reform policies, because such policies would further the trend towards the US becoming more ethnically diverse and multi-cultural. It’s a direct reference to interracial cuckold pornography, with the racists who use the term blaming a mythical international Jewish conspiracy to turn America into a majority non-white nation.

Not immigration it started because the Democratic party after the Southern Strategy has become the party of minorities, especially inner city blacks. And thus in the eyes of the fascist right, the Democrats are being “cucks” by pandering to these minority groups giving them tax dollars that the right thinks only they deserve. Thus Democrats, and liberals especially, are so weak they sit and watch as the blacks they pander to come in and have sex with their girlfriend/wife ie steal their tax dollars.

Cuck-servative is a Republican who does nothing to stop this movement of tax dollars to “the others” that do not deserve it.

It’s sickening and such an obvious example of their racism. But even Twitter users that use racist words like cuck or nationalist and “white genocide” for some strange reason get very upset when you point out this racism. One big fall back of many of these conservatives is they will explain they have a minority friend, or maybe they married a minority. I came across one who insisted because he married an Asian woman there was no way he could be racist against African Americans.

re: #72 The Ghost of Bork Bork Bork Bork

Excellent summation.

Yes, you are automatically branded a Cuck, a RINO, a moocher, a taker, a terrorist sympathizer, etc.

And even among themselves, there is an ongoing contest to demonstrate who has the most impeccable and uncompromising conservative ideals, which they proudly demonstrate by blocking and confounding anything the government tries to accomplish because compromise is a sign of weakness and acquiescence.

A dark thought on this Breitbart thing -

So we’re seeing the collapse and re-alignment of media powers behind Trump. No Jews or women allowed! Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Drumpf! And so on.

The thing is, if Trump wins, and there’s no more Black Man in The White House to focus all that rage, where’s it going to go? Trump has to steer that ship. He can’t make the ship disappear.

The only place to focus all that poison is on the places it’s going already: minorities, and “cucks”, and “libtards”, and “progs”, and “race traitors”. In other words, everybody who isn’t a white supremacist asshole.

Trump is already enabling violence against the Different, and he has already talked about removing laws preventing war crimes. All he has to do is commission popular volunteer security at his rallies, and provide them with a uniform. If he gets into office, those same people will do things we’re too afraid to do because of political correctness.

This ain’t rocket surgery, folks, it’s history repeating.

KY Goes Back To The ’50s, Advances Bill To Discriminate Against Interracial Couples

So in other words, if your boss is a racist and finds out your spouse is of a different race from you, he can fire you. The bill is obviously aimed LGBT people, but it is so broadly worded that at this point, it could mean literally anything — including and especially related to interracial dating and marriage. The worst part of it all is that these people can hide behind “religious beliefs” to discriminate, and there is no provision in the bill for legal recourse on the part of the victims of this discrimination.

That KY bill is the inevitability of the abuse of “religious freedom”. Religious freedom will be used to undermine any and all “politically correct” laws they disagree with. His hand did not touch her face! She must be lying!

Despite being a thorough going, kiss kick ass supporter of The One, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Alberta), I have reached out to the Trump campaign in a vain attempt to be marginally relevant (or at least noticed) and offered to testify (not in court, but you know, like say stuff) against Fields’ credibility since she continues to accuse Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski of assaulting her. And also, she continues to be a girl, so clearly she’s at fault.

I stand ready (if anyone cares — hello? over here!) to turn over all text messages, emails, smoke signals, winks, nudges, sexual fantasies and phone records with Fields to confirm that I believe she is a serial liar with a history of drama seeking behavior upon request by law enforcement. She however does not seek drama when law enforcement does not ask her.

No wait. That didn’t come out right.

Anyway, I’ll share private communications with her with law enforcement, because she’s not a source like that guy who leaked those fake abortion videos to me.

Muslim student at Wichita State reports attack by man shouting ‘Trump, Trump, Trump’

A Muslim student at Wichita State University says he and a Hispanic friend, who also is a student, were attacked over the weekend by a man who shouted racial epithets and “Trump, Trump, Trump” before riding away on his motorcycle.

Khondoker Usama, the student body vice president at Wichita State, who is Muslim, said he and a Hispanic friend, who so far has chosen to remain anonymous, were filling their vehicle at the gas pumps at a Kwik Shop near campus at 21st and Oliver early Saturday when a man in his 20s or 30s started calling a black customer at the convenience store a racial epithet.

“Then suddenly it turned onto us, calling us ‘brown trash, go home. Trump will win,’ ” Usama said.

Then the man approached the students and, according to Usama, said, “You want to live in this country, you better leave.”

This is the kind of complexity in the SW Asia region that the simplistic chanters of the GOP (most notably Trump’s supporters, but can be said of the others’ too) can’t appreciate:

Turkish warplanes strike Kurdish militant bases after deadly Ankara attack

Turkish airstrikes targeted Kurdish militant strongholds in northern Iraq on Monday, a day after a suicide car bombing in Turkey’s capital killed at least 37 people and raised concerns over expanding violence from an internal war with separatists.

There was still no assertion of responsibility from Sunday’s blast in Ankara — less than a month after a similar attack in the city — but the rapidly organized airstrikes suggest Turkish officials suspect Kurdish separatists, who wage attacks in Turkey but have bases over the border in northern Iraq.

[…]

The idea often ballyhooed is that we ought to arm the Kurds to the hilt, to fight against ISIS, etc.

But the world is not that simple.

SW Asia is full of multi-party deep, old, conflict, and simply picking one party as the “winner” just stirs the pot.

I have yet to hear on the GOP debates that the “Iran deal” the truth, namely it was not a deal between the US and Iran but instead a deal among the current nuclear powers and Iran. Just like the $150billion was not ours, but just bottled up by the US.

lawhawk  Mar 14, 2016 • 6:18:03am

re: #107 freetoken

Turkey doesn’t want the Kurds to have an independent state. They’re chafing at fact that Iraq has allowed them autonomy, and the PKK continues to be the Turkish bogeyman/thorn in the side. There are periodic attacks by the Turkish govt against Kurdish areas, and the PKK has carried out attacks.

The Kurds are one of those groups that have been perpetually screwed over by regional and world powers for decades, and there’s no sign that will change. Autonomy in Iraq seems to be the best they can hope for, although a changed administration in Ankara wouldn’t hurt.

Now a few people realize the rot? Now? Gimme a break. Shapiro has no scruples or morals either - particularly when he regularly decides who is sufficiently Jewish or not. So, it turns out that Donald doesn’t want Sarah anywhere near his rallies. She’s being relegated to rodeos and fruit festivals:

Sarah Palin will be hitting the campaign trail in Florida for Donald Trump on Sunday.

But the Trump campaign says Palin will not be attending Trump’s Sunday rally west of Boca Raton at Sunset Cove Amphitheater at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park.

Instead, Palin is scheduled to campaign for Trump in Arcadia at the All Florida Championship Rodeo at noon on Sunday and at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City at 4 p.m.

Asked if Palin will be joining Trump for the 6 p.m. rally in West Boca, Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks replied, via email: “No.”

Muslim student at Wichita State reports attack by man shouting ‘Trump, Trump, Trump’

You know, I just had a thought about bigotry that may well be on the way of being a flip of an old standard.

At times you might have heard people mention their fright as a White person walking down a sidewalk and seeing a group of African Americans coming the other way. They have a moment to make a decision. A lot of times they admit they cross the street to avoid the direct meeting on a public street. This can happen in any part of a city…not just in what they would consider the rough part of town.

How close are we getting to where a Muslim, Hispanic, Indian, Native American or African American is faced with a group of White people coming down the other way and they have to pause in a moment of decision and feign seeing something on the other side of the street they need to get to…fast?

That there are workers out there who think that Trump will benefit them is nuts, since there’s no reason to believe Trump would do anything to improve the job market and there’s plenty of signs that he’d make job conditions worse.

Was listening to Fridays Kagro in the Morning Show and David’s story about the FL mom that was shot by her own child. The woman had a prior felony shoplifting charge dropped from 2013.

This got me thinking that, all other things being equal, how important that felony charge being dropped would be had the person been black?

White woman has felony shoplifting charges dropped in 2013, has unfortunate accident where her 4 year old used her unsecured gun to shoot her.

Black woman has felony shoplifting charges dropped in 2013, should not have had access to the gun in the first place due to this. Plus, it was probably an illegal gun, because reasons.

One thing I noticed over the weekend is that Donald Trump is starting to openly call Bernie Sanders a communist. I cannot help but believe that this is a calculated move to provide another dog-whistle for his white supremacist fans.
Given the conspiracy belief put forward by groups that Jewish people were the founders of communism and fostered its rise in the Soviet Union, I’m pretty convinced this is a thinly veiled anti-Semitic attack toward Sanders - one that Trump can feign deniability toward, but that his neo-Nazi fans are already furiously repeating in social media.

Heard Joke mention this Washington Post blog article he penned over the weekend.

I’m going to pull out the juicy parts.

washingtonpost.com - Donald Trump’s Chicago scam

We keep talking to ourselves. Constantly. Trying to make order out of chaos and sense out of the surreal. And this year, most doing the talking have gotten it wrong. Wrong about Trump. Wrong about Rubio. Wrong about Sanders. And now wrong about the road ahead.

What are we talking to ourselves about now on the Sunday shows, on cable news, in newspaper columns, in the blogosphere, on Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook? We are grimly warning the world that following Friday night’s fracas in Chicago, America faces a deepening divide that is tearing away at the fabric of this great land.

What mind-numbing nonsense.

Friday’s freak show was as prepackaged as a rerun of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” The only difference was that Donald Trump delivered his lines on the phone from a hotel room in the Windy City instead of on the set of his made-for-TV boardroom.

It was all a scam.

Has anyone noticed that Trump’s campaign now regularly stages media events designed to eclipse any negative coverage that predictably follows Republican debates?

- - CUT - -

When news broke early Friday night that the Chicago rally had been canceled because of safety fears, you didn’t need to be a programming genius to predict what would be jamming America’s airwaves for the rest of the night. And for the next four hours, the candidate who is promising to weaken libel laws spoke on cable news channels about how his First Amendment rights were being violated. He was doing all of this while reaching a far larger audience than he could have ever done while actually speaking at a rally.

As has been the case throughout the entire 2016 cycle, Trump thrives on the political chaos that he helps creates. If it is true that opportunity and chaos are the same word in Mandarin, Trump should stamp that word on a poster and sell it at his next scheduled event. For the Manhattan billionaire, manufactured chaos is just as profitable for his brand as Paris Hilton’s sex tape was for hers.

- - CUT - -

Following the rally’s cancellation, Trump supporters expressed surprise at the number of protesters that were filling the lines and streaming into the event on a campus that is 25 percent Hispanic, 25 percent Asian and 8 percent black. William Daley, son of former Chicago mayor Richard J. Daley, did not share that surprise. “Whoever picked that location knew what they were doing as far as poking that sleeping dog there,” Daley said, suggesting to the New York Times that the venue was staged for the purpose of provoking protests that would energize Trump’s own supporters.

It would also land Trump on cable news channels throughout the night, talking nonstop over endless loops of skirmishes that paled in comparison with rowdy celebrations that often explode in American cities after sports championships. Yet everyone got sucked into the political sideshow. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio’s brief appearances on TV during the rolling cable news coverage only made their own candidacies seem smaller under the glare of Donald’s Big Tent Show.

- - CUT - -

Unfortunately for his opponents, most of the protesters who appeared on camera during the night shouted profanities at cameras, intimidated others being interviewed by networks and played directly into the Republican front-runner’s hands. Fox News’s John Roberts kept asking a stream of protesters why they were out in force against Trump, and none could answer the question.

Perhaps they should have just used the New York developer’s own words against him to explain why Friday’s event took an ugly turn, like the time Trump said of a protester at a Las Vegas rally, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”

Or when he declared that “in the good old days,” protesters wouldn’t show up “because they used to treat them very, very rough.”

Or when he told his audience to “Knock the crap out of them, would you?”

There was so much that could have been said but instead those protesting against Trump being interviewed on camera seemed to be about as shallow as the reality-show routine of the man they love to hate. The difference, of course, is that Trump wants to be the next president of the United States. But that will never happen unless the man who is about to lock down the GOP nomination drops his reality-show routine, starts working on uniting his party and gets serious about the daunting task before him.

Mark me down as skeptical.

And Joke Scarborough and his gang at Morning Joke did their part in putting The TRUMP Show™ before his audience making him seem like a legit candidate.

I wonder if TRUMP called in and gave Joke hell about that after I switched to local news after my first 20? I wonder if Joke wilted under the Great TRUMP and kissed his orange butt and scheduled another nice TRUMP controlled get-together in his palatial digs?

What a Joke!

Than who first thought?

Some people around here were calling him a fascist using known Joseph Goebbels tricks last fall. But as always…out came the Godwins and the Intellectually lazy claims and discounting using Hitler as a comparison which can’t be done as there was only one Hitler.

What is too easy to do is blow off the Hitler comparisons. I think it always important to keep character types and history in mind for comparisons. To me they are road maps pointing out direction. We may well be going down a very Hitler-like road.

Please do not miss the exit signs or you might find yourself where you never intended to visit.

One great sign is Trumps controlling media access and also wanting to ramp up libel suits for what is said about him. A sure sign of a despot.

Three things I can predict:

1) There will be a Twitter/FB shitstorm of speculation about what really happened.

3) It will help DT’s poll standings

I know there’s a lot of “conventional wisdom” going around that every shitty thing he does helps his ratings but it’s simply not true. He’s been in serious decline against both Hillary and Bernie in head to head polling since the beginning of the year, and gets worse with every new racist incident. He’s even losing some steam in the GOP Primary, though it’s coming at such a late juncture as to probably not matter in that race.

Point being, what’s worked for him in the primary will almost certainly not work in the general, and he’s shown no real indication of being able to walk out of the racist, warmongering, torture loving corner he’s painted himself into.

You know what i’d like? For the anti-trade folks to lay out a detailed plan for how to realistically survive in a global economy without it

Quite simply: we cannot and should not exclude competition on wages, that is what drives the market and forces us to be more productive.

But when it comes to worker safety and environmental protections, we are not only cutting our own throats by adopting a free trade policy with nations with lax regulations, we are giving them no incentive to improve, either unless we institute import tariffs that reflect the difference in production costs represented by environmental and safety standards.

That is where import tariffs come in: clean up, improve safety, and we will lower/abolish them.

I have wondered how you could word a law that would say that all products coming into the country must come from countries with wage and safety standards at least as good as ours or will be taxed to make up the difference. It would also have to pass current WTO rules.

And you have presented more that I have heard from anyone who has criticisms of any type of trade agreement. So much beyond just lost jobs. There is something I could look at and have a coherent discussion/argument about. I know it is harder to put that into a soundbite and pass it along at a rally. But if a campaign wants to engage Democratic voters, shouldn’t they do something like this?(If they are, the message is not widespread enough)

Todd Palin Seriously Injured in Snowmobile Accident

This morning, Sarah Palin cancelled a planned Donald Trump rally in The Villages, Fla. just minutes before it was about to start. The reason for the abrupt cancellation, NBC reports, is that Palin’s husband, Todd, is in intensive care in Alaska after a “very serious” snowmobile accident last night.

Because it did. Ben’s been palpably uncomfortable for a few month now, his interactions with Milo especially have been getting more and more brittle. Yiannopoulos’ alt right twitter followers have been hounding Shapiro relentlessly.

That’s pretty much what I was thinking: They’re trying to preemptively defend themselves against charges of antisemitism.

I am very confident that Trump is so toxic that Hillary will defeat him easily. That is why I would prefer Trump is the GOP nominee over Cruz. She’ll beat Cruz as well, but the GOP will keep the House and possibly the Senate. With Trump as the nominee, the Democrats will not only probably win the Senate, they might gain a majority of the House as well, enabling them to do more than merely protect the gains of the last seven years.

Yeah I think we can make gains with Cruz as the nominee too. Cruz kind of has what Sanders has going for him on the Democratic side right now and that’s that he hasn’t been subject to much scrutiny. The GOP will rally to Cruz though, as much as the establishment dislikes him, because at the end of the day he is a standard GOP politician with the same agenda as they have. Then a united GOP will focus on demonizing Hillary. With Trump as the nominee, much of the GOP will sit on its hands or even work against him, and he will galvanize Americans to come out and vote against him the way Cruz wouldn’t.

Keep in mind, starting this week, Republican primaries can be winner-take-all, so if there’s a sudden shift, it could happen. Let’s say Rubio loses in Florida and has to bow out. My guess is that a good chuck of Rubio voters go to Kaisch over Cruz or Trump. In a three man race, with one clear establishment style candidate, it’s very easy to see how he could start winning primaries. The problem is he’s too far behind now to likely be able to get enough delegates to avoid a floor fight.

My guess is that probably 2/3 of the Trump Republicans would fall in line - they are afterall, Republicans facing the prospect of another Clinton in the White House. But I could see about a third of them staying home/walking/etc. Now, the question is, would the overall math for Republicans be better for Trump to get the nomination and hold his coalition while likely losing many more Republicans, or for Kaisch to get the nomination out of a brokered convention and lose some of the Trump voters. My guess is that Trump would end up losing more voters in the general (whether they stay home, vote for Hillary, or vote third party) than Kaisch would in this scenario.

Right.

He took an enormous fortune, and through 40 years of hard work, managed to make it almost as big as if it had sat in an index fund.

Last week, Trump visited Concord and Fayetteville in rallies that attracted thousands of attendees. During the rally in Fayetteville, a protester was assaulted as he was escorted from Crown Coliseum by police. A Linden man was later charged in the incident, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Monday that they are considering filing a charge of inciting a riot against Trump.

Hello from slightly rainy Los Angeles. I got a letter from the state about the upcoming primary. As a “decline to state” Indy I can’t vote the GOP or Dem primary. Short of registering as such. Other frankly fringe parties chose to allow open voting.

I’m out, not that our June ballot was likely to matter much. All academic.

Umm. You can vote in the Dem primary, you just have to request a ballot.

At least according to the request for a ballot that I filled out and mailed back last week as another “decline to state” independent in CA.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough spokeswoman Patty Sullivan said information available on a snowmachine crash was limited due to patient confidentiality.

I stand corrected, then. Still - time-stamped today. An accident like that at a public event with a state public figure would have drawn more attention, I’d think.

Nice to see Governor Maroon has his priorities straight. Better to fellate his hero than show respect to a fallen Trooper. But those boys in uniform are just for show and the occasional muscle needed to inflate ones already inflated ego. Sort of like Veterans. Love them as they ride off to that glorious fight for Truth, Justice, and The American Way, but when they come back all needy and with pieces missing, fuck ‘em. Leeches. This is Christie Duh Christie new chapeau. NSFW, but very Presidential….

I would interpret that as taking extra caution to acquire correct info, rather than running only with the first reports, which are always wrong.

re: #417 nines09

Once again the GOP politicians show that first responders, law enforcement, and the military generally are treated as disposable heroes. They’re good for photo ops and to bash Democrats, but the moment they aren’t essential, they’re dropped like a ton of bricks.

See the Zadroga Act delay.
See the refusal to properly fund VA.
See Gov. Christie’s actions today.

Etc.

Patient confidentiality is also something that applies to everyone, newsworthy or not. If the only people who knew were the first responders and the hospital he was taken to, then the media is only going to find out when the family releases info.
