Right Wing Media and Blogs Push Misleading Photo as Evidence Hillary Clinton Is Sick
In a typically sleazy right wing media move, a whole mess of fake “news” sites like Breitbart and Gateway Pundit and Drudge Report and Infowars tried to push a six-month old uncredited photograph of Hillary Clinton being helped up a staircase (after slipping and almost falling) as evidence that she’s “sick.” CNN’s Brian Stelter reports: Drudge Report misleads readers with Hillary Clinton photo.
The Drudge Report, one of the most widely read sites on the web, is misleading visitors by taking a six-month-old photo out of context.
Clinton slipped on some stairs while campaigning in South Carolina ahead of the February 27 primary — that much is true. A couple of men helped her up the stairs.
Photos of the awkward entrance were published right afterward by two wire services, Reuters and Getty.
And sure enough, the caption for this photo at Getty Images is very clear about what happened (hover over the image to see the caption):
This was no accident, of course; conspiracy sites have been circulating these rumors that Clinton is unhealthy or has suffered “strokes” for years. (Stelter notes that her personal physician said recently she had no health issues that would prevent her from serving as president.)
This dishonestly presented photo is still featured prominently at the website of Jim Hoft, fabled Stupidest Man on the Internet, with no correction or update, and a screaming headline: IT’S WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT=- Photos of Hillary’s Handler Lead to More Questions about her Health - UPDATE: More Pics!
