FBI Director James Comey Learned About His Firing From Television News

It may not be the worst aspect of Trump’s Tuesday Night Massacre, but it illustrates the sheer incompetence and cowardice of the Trump gang; FBI director Comey apparently learned he had been fired while he was speaking to FBI employees in Los Angeles, from TV screens showing breaking news reports.

Mr. Comey, who is three years into a 10-year term at the helm of the F.B.I., learned from news reports that he had been fired while addressing bureau employees in Los Angeles. While Mr. Comey spoke, television screens in the background began flashing the news. Shortly after, a letter was delivered to F.B.I. Headquarters in Washington.

Man, that’s ice cold. And treating an FBI director like this, when you’re under investigation for ties to a hostile foreign government, strikes me as a seriously bad idea.

I’ve been asking myself, “Why fire Comey now?” It would have been best to wait for Friday. Comey is just leading an investigation, he is not the one sifting through documents and stuff. That will continue as before. The only thing I can come up with is that testimony he was supposed to give Thursday. This effectively puts the kibosh on that and stalls further testimony indefinitely.
If I were the little man in North Korea I would stop everything and let Donald Chump proclaim a foreign policy win. That would really throw Washington into a tizzy.

There is one nice thing about where I live. It’s only about 11 hrs to the Canadian border and we both have valid passports.

The Canadian border is much farther away for us, but we have valid passports, valid Canadian car liability insurance card, and a valid Parks Canada permit.

We also have Canadian money in a “break glass in case of emergency” case I had made when Trump was elected. (It might be getting time to do that - let’s see if they move to round up liberals first.)

No. but there seems to be a general understanding, even in right-wing law enforcement that this is the kind of thing that Simply Is Not Done.

These are professional investigators. They are very careful in how they build cases. If Trump puts a new head of the FBI in place with orders to gin up any kind of investigation so he can put Clinton in prison, this is not going to end well.

The organization claims Heyman was “arrested performing 1st amendment duties.”

Public News Service says the organization is working to bail Heyman out of jail.

Conservatism as I understand it can always drive voters to the polls from fear (note all the anti same-sex marriage constitutional amendments on state ballots).

Liberalism does not play on fear, thus it is harder to get out the vote.

Is that an ideal bill? No. This isn’t California or Massachusetts. Omaha has exactly one Planned Parenthood office, and Mayor Stothert wants it shuttered. Heath Mello did not. (There are only two offices in the state; the other is in Lincoln.)

Until the Democratic Party starts supporting Democrats in this state, the Dems are lucky that Mayor Stothert even had a challenger at all.

Heh, I added that line to fit some of the tone around here tonight.

I’ve always said I am not a wrist slasher. I still believe I guess that right still overcomes wrong.

I can’t speak for the timing as to when it will be made right though. All I know is this is still early even though some think all of this should have been wiped out by now since Trump is so evil.

It took time to get here. For every action there is a reaction and the force and energy put into building something is the same amount force and energy to take it down. It took since May/June of 2015 until November of 2016 to build the Trump Monster. It could take as long to knock him down.

Is that an ideal bill? No. This isn’t California or Massachusetts. Omaha has exactly one Planned Parenthood office, and Mayor Stothert wants it shuttered. Heath Mello did not. (There are only two offices in the state; the other is in Lincoln.)

Until the Democratic Party starts supporting Democrats in this state, the Dems are lucky that Mayor Stothert even had a challenger at all.

I’m merely pointing out that you compared his record to Kaine. Kaine never supported restrictions on legal abortion as governor and has a 100% record from NARAL and PP since he entered the SEnate. And I know it’s not CA or MA, you’re getting this from a Kaine constiuent who doesn’t exactly live in a bright blue state and whose last governor in fact tried to push a transvaginal ultrasound law on the state’s women. I’m not disagreeing with you that Mello should have been supported but you did mischaracterize Kaine’s record on abortion since he’s been our governor and senator. TBH though, there’s finite resources and at the risk of sounding like a jerk, I imagine the DNC has a greater priority on maintaining VA’s governor house and flipping NJ’s than the mayorship of Omaha. Teh state party isn’t funding the cnadidate I’m working for the house of delegates either, we have a very conservative district. My point isn’t to criticize Mello’s record on abortion rights, my point is to defend Tim Kaine’s record and I will point out that Kaine actually did face a lot of scrunity when he was picked but people did see that Kaine had a 100% pro-choice voting record. The objections the activists had with Mello was not his personal beliefs but parts of his voting record. And personally, I think a lot are frustrated by the fact that Sanders who backed him can devise standards for candidates but they’re told to shut up about their concerns regarding this guy’s record on choice. I know Mello would have been better than the Republican who ran in Omaha. I don’t doubt that in the slightest.

But yet he does have that in his record, i didn’t characteristic Mello’s record. Mello actually has a record of supporting abortion restrictions as a legislator whereas Kaine did not. And while I’m aware he did say that, one can see why some activists may have been a bit wary to trust him. I am not saying it was right or wrong. I just think Kaine and Mello’s records on abortion are not what you made them seem. I have no quarrel with the idea that he should have gotten more support but at the same time, I realize the DNC only has certain resources and I believe that if oyu don’t have the national party’s backing, you can use it to your advantage too.

1. I was pretty sure I saw something about the DNC officially backing Mello, despite outcry (probably unfairly) about his position on abortion.
2. How much money do you think the DNC actually chips in for the mayoral races in Boston, Minneapolis or Oakland? I suspect that most of the money comes from a combination of local citizens/companies and outside citizens/groups besides the DNC. The DNC doesn’t just back up trucks full of cash to the campaign HQs in these cities.
3. As you noted, Omaha is a large city. The 2nd richest person in the US lives there. If they don’t want their streets to be gravel, the wealthy people of Omaha need to fork over some cash and the city’s voters need to step up and vote out the morons. It’s not up to Minneapolis and Oakland to do it for you.
4. I’m going to reiterate that these people voted for the candidate that gave them gravel roads in a major urban area. Seriously.Think about that for a second. Gravel roads in a city of more than 400k people.

Since when is it the DNC’s role to fund mayoral elections? It never has been before. It certainly isn’t some huge umbrella organization responsible for all Dems at all levels everywhere. Fuck, I’m trying. I don’t even want ot have this argument again. My only problem was saying that Meoo = Kaine on abortion and I’ve found the voting records that disagree with that. I know Mello said he wouldn’t touch abortion if elected Mayor but can you blame pro-choice voters for being a little apprhensive about that given that he did have some votes in his record on that? That’s what was different from Kaine and that was my whole point in the first place. I agree that Dems need to run people everywhere and at every level, but I’m not certain there’s actually a national level organization that’s truly responsible for that. It’s not the DNC. I don’t believe the RNC handles that for the Republicans. It’s generally the state level parties and organizations set up by crazy rich wingnuts 100. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a priority for the extremely wealthy on the left and in the center to create similar structures, organization and finance these campaigns, just like they don’t see a need to found/buy media organizations to promote their views.

Yes, I do. Man ti reminds me how much I dislke Thatcher. They brought up my third great grandparents home county and possible hometown though, Ennisskillen in Fermanagh.

It’s not just the resources though. It’s the time that it takes being a candidate. Most candidates aren’t stinking rich and can just run a campaign of leisure. They have their other jobs that they’re doing during the day. So, here’s a possible solution in the post Citizens United world. We only run laoded candidates. I don’t want that though. IF a candidate’s rich and in line with my valeus fine, but we should have people that can relate with the average American more often than not especially in local elections.

It’s nothing personal but I really think you time and time again do not understand my point because you want to make this a pity party for yourself being in a bright red state that had a once in a blue moon occurance and went for Obama and elected a Dem Rep. People like yourself need to build the Dem Party in your village, that’s not the DNC’s job. You see me bellyaching about the DNC out here? NO, I’m out every weekend since February doing soething for a candidate. But most people don’t have my free time.
