Wow: Trump Told Russians That Firing ‘Nut Job’ Comey Eased Pressure From Investigation

Another bombshell

And now we have some more stunning news about Donald Trump’s reckless behavior from the New York Times: Trump Told Russians That Firing ‘Nut Job’ Comey Eased Pressure From Investigation.

WASHINGTON — President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.”

The conversation, during a May 10 meeting — the day after he fired Mr. Comey — reinforces the notion that Mr. Trump dismissed him primarily because of the bureau’s investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives. Mr. Trump said as much in one televised interview, but the White House has offered changing justifications for the firing.

We have an arrogant, boastful child in a 70-year old man’s body occupying the White House, folks. The good part of that awful reality, though, is that he just can’t help incriminating himself.

Why does Trump have to worry about incriminating himself when the GOP simply doesn’t care and continues enabling him because he fits into their regressive agenda perfectly.

The word I’m looking for… oh yes…

complicit.

The GOP is complicit in all this, and the Ryan, McCarthy transcript is just more evidence of it. They all knew, and didn’t care. They put their personal power ahead of national security.

They’ve completely debased themselves and their supporters simply don’t care.

re: #71 Stanley Sea

You made me think. Is a physician on board AF1?

Per wiki:

The White House physician has an office inside the White House. The location of his or her medical unit plays an important role in keeping the President of the United States healthy. He or she also oversees a staff which is typically composed of five military physicians, five nurses, five physician assistants, three medics, three administrators and one IT Manager. The White House Physician is metaphorically the “shadow of the President”[5] because he or she is always close at hand whether the President is at the White House, overseas, on the campaign trail, or aboard presidential plane Air Force One.[5] The Physician to the President protects the president’s health and may also perform emergency surgery.

From the SF86 form:

The U.S. Criminal Code (title 18, section 1001) provides that knowingly falsifying or concealing a material fact is a felony which may result in fines and/or up to five (5) years imprisonment. In addition, Federal agencies generally fire, do not grant a security clearance, or disqualify individuals who have materially and deliberately falsified these forms, and this remains a part of the permanent record for future placements. Your prospects of placement or security clearance are better if you answer all questions truthfully and completely. You will have adequate opportunity to explain any information you provide on this form and to make your comments part of the record.

Trump is really going to piss off the entire FBI. Calling the former head a nutjob is calling them all out.

He just does not get what position he is in. He could bully people as a con business man but doing that to the FBI is just going to make them and the other agencies work that much harder to bring him down.

And his new Special Counsel for Russia Investigation just happens to be a former FBI head himself.

I await a report later today that the President made an unscheduled visit of US forces stationed at Lajes Air Base in the Azores while enroute to Saudi Arabia, during the visit Jared Kushner became ill and remained at the facility when the presidential party continued it’s journey. The president’s daughter did not remain behind….

But this time he’s specifically naming and attacking someone who is now the former head of the FBI.

All because Comey was trying to do his job, and Trump didn’t want him investigating Trump-Russia.

re: #114 ObserverArt

Trump is really going to piss off the entire FBI. Calling the former head a nutjob is calling them all out.

He just does not get what position he is in. He could bully people as a con business man but doing that to the FBI is just going to make them and the other agencies work that much harder to bring him down.

And his new Special Counsel for Russia Investigation just happens to be a former FBI head himself.

What a fucking idiot. His arrogance and ignorance is going to be his ruin.

Yep, every FBI agent might talk shit about Comey because he is their boss, but as soon as an outsider starts going after someone in law-enforcement the agency tends to rally around the guy.

By the time they land, the occupants of AF1 are going to go running to the Secret Service to confess, for reasons of personal protection.

Remember back a couple years the tale of the young woman on her way to England that let rip her thoughts on Twitter while she was catching a buzz.

Meanwhile back in America people were ripping on her and it got to her boss…then the speculation was how long before she was fired.

All of that going on while still in flight. And then when she landed she found out she was fired. That was a new one for the ages.

Yeah something like that. Tweets from the plane spilling their guts so telling it causes Congress to launch impeachment proceedings in a late evening Dump Trump Friday Special Session.

I was 12 and remember voluble arguments with my grandmother. I was upset by the law-breaking, and my gran, an immigrant from a Baltic state overrun by both Germans and Russians, (hint, she preferred the Germans) was very pro-Nixon. “you shouldn’t speak against the president! This is moving way faster, probably due to the 24 hour news cycle.

We’d have to wait for the national news at 6:00 to find out what was going on, unless we watched the hearings (which I did, every single day).

Up to a point, and it depends when you start the clock. Watergate itself started when Nixon was running for re-election (and was thus idiotically paranoid from the get-go), so if you backdate this one to last June or so, the time frame may end up similar.

The biggest difference is that we do not (yet) have Senate hearings on national TV, with an avuncular southern lawyer of the old school and a smart young Republican asking pointed questions about what did the President know and when.

what is happening now… is the family member who did wrong before, has moved back home, brought with them all of their undesirable friends, who brought in their undesirable friends and are telling you to fetch them sammiches while they grope your wife, your sisters, your daughters and your Mom and leave their shit all over the neighborhood, while also stealing shit from your garage and pawning it.

Electing Trump was the equivalent of infecting the country with a Stage 4 cancer. The prognosis is not good any way you look at it.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Shame on Tea Partiers and Republicans for voting for the most grotesque candidate in US history. One could argue he is the most vile person ever to win a major political office in human history in a truly democratic election.

But shame does not only belong to Republicans who voted for him and now continue to carry water for him. Shame also goes to those on the Left who chose to sit at home and not vote at all, those Bernie Bros for their short-sighted arrogance, and for the Hillary Campaign who chose to simply let the election slide as if she were a lock. This era is a watershed for this country larger than Nixon. We are in a Civil War 2.

I was around during the Nixon impeachment proceedings. It was very different in those olden days. No instant communications. We got our info via the nightly network news or from newspapers. One could also listen to the radio (what’s that?) or watch the hearings on PBS if you were home. No TVs in the work space. I remember it was a long and tedious event. I don’t think anyone was surprised at the outcome. It never was the crime. It was the cover-up.

And a comment about Ford pardoning Nixon. A lot of people were aghast. IIRC correctly, I remember Ford making a statement to the effect that he “did not want to occupy the Oval Office while his predecessor occupied a jail cell”. Ford felt it gave the image that the us was a banana republic to the free world. I can understand this position.

Will they see that GOP/Fox has been stirring up their resentments to the point where they actually elected an openly pro-Putin president?

They will only see it in two situations: FOX tells them to, or FOX blows up and they’re forced to go outside.

Scene: The Vatican. Pope awaits, Trump comes waddling in.

“Welcome, my child.”
“Hi, Pope. How’s it going?”
“Hunger and poverty are all around.”
“Yeah, well, what can you do? I’d like to introduce my new Vatican representative.”
“Welcome, Mrs Gingrich. I have been told about your experience.”
“Really? I didn’t think you Catholics liked women that way.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Oh, let it go, your Holiness. Nice place you’ve got here.”
“You don’t think it’s a little much?”
“You can never have too much gold leaf, your Holiness. Is it OK to call you Holiness?”
“Certainly, my child.”
“Fine, well, thanks. Later.”

Exeunt omnes Americani, pursued by a bear in the uniform of a Vatican guard. Fade to black, pause, fade up a single spot on the Pope, kneeling.

“How long, O Lord, how long? I yearn to be with thee.”

Thunderclap, lightning …

Mrs. Fish was asking me about that earlier. I kept naming names and she kept wrinkling her nose, and then she was like, “Isn’t there ANYBODY in line that would be worth having?!”

As usual, it’s going to depend on whether Trump jumped or was pushed. If he resigns, then the GOP will try to force the issue of crowning Pence on the grounds that we need to “heal the nation.” If he’s removed by the GOP, then they’ll be humbled enough to call for Pence’s resignation as well, but will insist on not going farther than that because (they’ll insist) the blight has been cut out. That basically means President Ryan and whoever the DNC finds the least objectionable to be VP.

I’ve noticed the same thing on Facebook. I think they’re probably privately reeling at how gullible they were in believing that Trump was the bestest thing in their lives since sliced bread, and the fact that they actually believed the race of the POTUS was a major factor in a president’s ability to govern effectively. I’m using my Facebook account to batter their *sses and am posting hit after hit. Let them remain in a state of denial. They’re used to living in an alternate reality. I’ve decided to not reveal certain things that are happening in D.C. in my Facebook posts because I want them to be in a state of mental chaos when the final sh*t hits the fan. Remember Agnew’s charges had nothing to do with Watergate — but with accepting bribes before being VP, a practice that may have continued while he was VP. So the question is: was Pence involved with anything illegal prior to running with Trump? No, I’m pretty sure VB has been taking about this show, except it’s on the BBC, not PBS. I think.

OK, there is a BBC series last year & a new one on PBS this year.

Basically what prompted me to ask, is I recall positive reviews. When I was ready to watch I noticed it’s actually a reality thing, where they put people from today into a re-created slum & make them live as such. That gave me pause.

It does look serious & thought provoking…..not lighthearted etc.

Hoping VB is having a nice shabbat.

There’s the core of the issue right out front: “The man he sold himself as on the campaign” “Sold” as in “pitched a product”: in Trump’s case, the political equivalent of taking wholesale-industrial vodka, and putting it in a fancy bottle with a gaudy label and peddling it to the rubes as some sort of ambrosial elixir. I haven’t seen “Victorian Slum House.” I have been watching “Underground” on WGN and “The Handmaid’s Tale” on hulu. I have “Mercy Street” queued up to watch next.

Anyway I’m signing off now to observe the actual Shabbat, not whatever that thing is that Jared and Ivanka observe sometimes when they feel like it but not when it’s inconvenient for them.

I agree, but you and I already know that the most important thing is that he’s willing to pledge his loyalty to Trump. We in black communities across the nation have dealt with other blacks like Clarke. We know him for whom/what he actually is——a social climbing motherfker who would eat sh*t in order to be able to interact with those whom he perceives to be his “betters.” In a way, if anything serious goes down with Trump and he gets caught up in it, he’ll do what I call a Michael Steele. When he was chair of the RNC, Steele did everything GOPers told him to do, including bashing PBO for no reason than that he was a Democrat, but when his job was in jeopardy, he suddenly remembered that he’s black and began talking about how much more was expected of him than a white male holding the same position in the organization.

In a period when I was supposed to be researching something else in the archives I came across these oversized books called Records of Parliament or some such. I wasted two or three days reading speeches about the “gin” problem in Victorian England. The arguments echo our drug-war arguments. Let’s be realistic, things didn’t really start going sideways for the GOP until last week. Let’s be realistic, things didn’t really start going sideways for the GOP until last week. Prior to that, they could tell themselves that the slow grind of the Congressional investigations would mean that nothing would happen before they got their legislative agenda passed. Then Trump fired Comey and it’s just been downhill from there.

Honestly, I think we’re about two years into it. But as far as McConnell sees it, you’re absolutely correct. And I’d give a penny for his thoughts.

Exactly. In fact, this only turned into a media feeding frenzy after Trump directly undercut the GOP cover story about that firing.

Most in the media are perfectly happy to accept even the most blatant GOP lie, if it is consistently delivered (e.g., 8 long years of this under W Bush). But telling a blatant lie today and contradicting it tomorrow is too much for the media.

I am not a Know-Nothing. That is certain. How could I be? How can any one who abhors the oppression of negroes, be in favor of degrading classes of white people? Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we begin by declaring that “all men are created equal.” We now practically read it “all men are created equal, except negroes.” When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read “all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and catholics.” When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty-to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy.

I was a big Civil War history buff in high school, and the stand of the 1st Minnesota was courage personified. Their flag hangs in the Capitol Building, which I need to go and see; the flag they captured during Pickett’s Charge, that of the 28th Virginia, we keep locked away across town.

I have the IRish brigade’s flag colors tattooed on me and I’m proud of my German born second great grandfather who enlisted for the Union.

If there’s a press conference at the airport, it’s guaranteed to be a mess.

I have at least one relative who has served in every major conflict since the American Revolution up through Vietnam. Service runs in my blood. I mentioned it before, but I suspect - with little evidence - that one of my paternal lineage moved from Kentucky to Indiana to flee his slaveholding family.

When Trump’s plane lands he’s going to be in a hell of a mood. Expect bad craziness.

Well, it’s the Jewish Sabbath, which, at some level, should remind us of Drumpf Passover:

“Why is this day the same as every other day?”

My money is on him not getting out of the plane once they land.

Trump is certain to beclown himself. Severely. I look forward to that with a great deal of anticipation.

And it simply didn’t make an impression. After all, his lawyers warned him against contacting Flynn, and yet he did so anyways.

Trump lacks the capacity to learn or process new information. That’s why he fixates on things like the election win. He can’t deal with adversity and thinks it’s all a huge conspiracy against him since he won the election and that’s what matters, right?

Trump’s incapable of being disciplined either, so he puts everyone around him in jeopardy too, even as they’re engaged in their own stupidity and criminality to boot.

Trump’s head exploding and Trump’s colon exploding would be mostly indistinguishable events.

Fun fact:

If the rules in The Magic Kingdom are the same as they were when I flew there in a KC-135 in 1982 for joint exercises, everyone will have to change into mufti before being allowed to exit the plane. No military uniforms allowed.

Our friends, the Saudis.

If so, Bill better make amends and tie up loose ends.

Unfuc…..

Nope. Just totally fucking believable.

Trump again has not a single clue about how the world works, how US foreign policy works, geopolitical relationships, or even basic aspects of our alliances/obligations.

And Trump’s supporters wont care in the slightest that he doesn’t know that NATO has no bearing on what happens with North Korea.

I can. He’s going to open his mouth and cause a diplomatic crisis.

Because he’s the Best, Effective, and Smartest Guy In The Room.

You know, like the Enron Management Team.

So, no worries. Easy-peasy. He’s got this. Piece of cake. All of us will be tired of winning so much.
